First impressions count, and lately I've been finding anything to do with the dental profession in Calgary has been lacking in the customer service field. I moved from Ontario and they are a different crowd there when it comes to pleasing their patients so I've become so accustomed to that. In finding a new dental practice I was finding many were not accommodating to patients' schedules. A lot were open from 10:00am and only open 4 days a week. That being said, I am so please to have found White Summit Dental Hygiene because they're open from 7:00am - 3:30pm 3 days a week, and by appointment on Saturday 9:00am - 4:30pm. Rocell is so thorough with the cleaning. My appointment was mostly scaling of hard deposits and I was surprised to find my main issue was on the upper front teeth in behind. I have bonded lingual retainers and very rarely do any hygienists even bother taking the time to work in behind there. She educated me on so many aspects of gum health I never even knew about. I get cleanings a few times a year and any new info is a huge deal!! She even recommended that I come back in 3 months' time to address my early onset gingivitis. Not only is she super thorough, she is super neat and clean. Sometimes in the past I would get nasty splashes of water all over my face and water dripping down the side of my mouth. Not with Rocell! She keeps it all neat and allows me so many opportunities to spit so I'm not choking on saliva. Weirdly enough, I am looking forward to my next visit for teeth cleaning. I would recommend this clinic to anyone looking for a good dental hygienist. Rocell is able to do everything just short of fillings and any other major dental work. For that stuff I'm sure she can refer to a dentist if you don't already have one.

I have literally never been to anyone else in my life because my old hygienist was THAT amazing. However, I moved here and needed a new one... Rocelle, the owner/hygienist of White Summit did not disappoint! I went to my appointment expecting to be disappointed because no one would be as good as what i was used to... I was wrong! She was actually BETTER than the lady who's been cleaning my teeth for the past 26 years! Rocelle was extremely thorough. Most of the time, a teeth cleaning is allotted a time slot of one hour and if you need more time, you have to come back for another appointment. Not here. Rocelle cleaned my teeth so thoroughly and even though it took an hour and a half, she did not cut me short on time! My teeth felt like silk after she finished. Rocelle's personality is exactly what makes her so special. She's extremely kind. I mean, she's so kind and warm that it's memorable. She makes a great impression and always makes sure you know what she's doing during the cleaning. She loves to answer any questions and offers guidance whenever you ask. It's incredibly rare to find a hygienist who's talented AND a caring, kind human being! She's quick to notice when something is painful and applies a numbing gel immediately. I went to this dentist a few years ago when I needed work done, and was paying out of pocket, no…read moreinsurance - I ended up spending about $8000 with her. Although she's capable of decent work, her work-ethic isn't consistent, so the quality of work isn't consistent. There were also problems when it came to the bill, and quotes for services. I first went in for a cleaning and assessment 'special' that was advertised. She did a fairly poor, rushed job on the cleaning, and made a lot of excuses for it, like the fact that I smoked at the time. Of course smoking will have an effect on the overall result that can be achieved, but obviously I wasn't paying her to use that as an excuse for her poor effort, nor to have a poor, unprofessional attitude( as others mention) while doing so. However at the time I needed a bridge done, and had been to several other of these dental trades people for quotes, and they can get really carried away with what they want to charge - there's really no logic to it. Her prices were reasonable. In an odd way her poor attitude told me she was at least honest, and her attitude and demeanor did improve when I started talking to her about more extensive and expensive services, and procedures. The bridge was $3600 - there had been a mold made before fillings, and one after. When the bridge arrived it had been made with the first mold rather than the 2nd as it should have been. It looked terrible and didn't match my other teeth. She altered it with her drill, right there, while it was in my mouth. The week prior, she had told me that the material is so strong her drill doesn't effect it. But there she was, easily re-shaping the bridge with her drill. So obviously she hadn't been honest with me. For the money dentists charge for these things( and all the mark-up) there shouldn't have been any confusion with the molds. As a result, I've never felt confident in the bridges quality and longevity. While altering the adjacent teeth to support the bridge, she 'discovered' I needed a route canal on one of the teeth. I don't know if I did, probably not, I'd never had any pain or problems with that tooth, but I wasn't in a position to say, "no, that's okay, just leave a stump of a tooth." Her quote in the chair was around $800. By the time I got to the receptionist it was $1200 because a route canal involves doing other things for various reasons a customer would obviously not know. So the cost for this $3600 bridge was now $4800 with the route-canal. She did 4 full surface fillings( among others) that looked good other than an odd looking stripe she left on one front tooth for no apparent reason. She had no explanation for it. It looked like she ran out of composite. I had her correct it during the next appointment. While doing so, she also did fillings on 2 bottom teeth, not on the original assessment. She said they were cavities, and would be $250 total. She didn't use any anesthetic they were so minor - whatever she did took 10-15min. Her assistant looked puzzled during the procedure, and it looked like 2 white globs on the tops of those 2 teeth. By the time I got to the receptionist it was $325 because "other surfaces had to be done" on those teeth, so it would cost more. She eventually realized that didn't make sense when there was obviously very little done, or time spent, and went back to the quoted $250. I realized after, those 'cavities' were likely just stains - I was a smoker at the time. I got the impression she was trying to recover some money for the time spent correcting her previous mistake. It seems to be a different type of composite on the tooth she had to correct, seems more porous and easily discolored( even as a non-smoker) and it seems very thin - little spots of the dentin underneath started showing up quickly. That was it for me as far as spending more money there - I found that really deceitful and unprofessional, especially given how much I'd already spent. The only thing I can say for certain about her performance is that it's inconsistent - ranges from good to unacceptable.

I was really nervous about getting any work done because it was so close to our trip and I didn't want to be on pain medications while away. Dr Smadych recommended to get my wisdom tooth pulled and insured me that with the new technologies that she's using at the office I'm not going to be in much pain or taking any pain medications. After the procedure I was preparing to load up on pain medication but to my surprise I had no pain at all! Didn't have to take a single pain killer nor feel any discomfort after the first day! I would strongly recommend Dr Smadych to anyone who is looking for some pain free work down on their teeth. She was very kind any knowledgeable and made the whole process very easy going.

I go to book in and find out that no... I've been shoved off to someone else. I'm not even sure I feel safe enough to see any dentist to get this fixed. Update: so they referred me to a clinic with no evenings and weekends and that requires payment up front and not through insurance. Really hard for folks with disabilities to manage. The referral was also badly botched. Really great way to break people's trust.

Also, they told me my primary insurance company wasn't going to cover any of my visit so I paid the full amount out of pocket. But I then received a statement from my insurance that they did actually cover about 1/3 of the visit and that Citizen had been paid for this. After reaching out to Citizen they did reimburse me for this portion. Should also be noted that some their prices are outside of the Dental Fee Guide so many insurance companies won't cover the extra costs. This was noted on both my secondary and primary insurance statements as reasons for denying full coverage.
