I don't know who has a vendetta against this office... But you don't know what you're talking about because they're wonderful. Yes, they are people that are way too invested in the animals that they care for, they put in a ton of hours and they might be tired because they care too much. For anyone to say that they don't care, is crazy! They are literally in it for the animals. How I found Dr. B at Bloomfield Pointe veterinary hospital was because my "bougie" vet, that I had seen for over 10 years, effed me over more than once. My Boston terrier was having a lot of crazy issues happening suddenly and in a short span of time and they wouldn't book me an appointment closer than three weeks out. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!? I called around like a crazy person and Dr. Ballou had me come in same day. It took a little bit to figure out what was going on with our dog, and when we did, it was a tumor and it was cancerous and he was going to die from it. Another great plus- they charge you what they have to. My vet would've charged ten times as much to take X-rays or surgery or basically anything. These guys are in it for the animals. Not only did Dr. B walk me through everything, he helped me walk through the entire journey of making sure our dog was comfortable, and that we knew everything that was going on. Our dog took his last breath in his office and I can't be more thankful for having Dr B. and his team supporting us. On top of that, two months later my other dog started his health journey of doom. My dog grew one of the biggest tumors in a short amount of time, and sure enough, it was Dr. B who is the one that helped us. He and his staff went way beyond measure to take care of him. They saved his life. And we all didn't think he was gonna make it. My third dog in the same year, needed an ACL surgery. I'm so grateful for this team. This veterinarian and these people at this office have been nothing but helpful, loving and they're killing it at what they do. read more

After a brief moment of panic and wondering if I was at the right place, this place exceeded my expectations. The building and parking lot might be old but what it lacks on the outside it more than makes up for on the inside. I would rather have it that way than the other way around. The process was explained from start to finish. I was kept well informed of the upfront estimate. There was no push for extra services that were not needed . The staff seemed to care and have compassion for our dog. The event that was the reason for the visit caused an ER call to Dr. B over the weekend.Dr B even followed up after our initial call to see if I needed to come in. If he was not so far from our home we would go back . If we ever need a ER service and our local vet cannot provide it. Definitely going back here.. read more

I have taken 3 of my dogs here for surgery with great results. One of my babies, Tydus, has high energy and does NOT like going to any veterinarian which is a problem when he needs to be seen. As a dog parent, this was a heartbreaking and extremely stressful experience, and I feel it's important to share so other pet parents are aware. Our dog had a tumor removed at this clinic and was sent home with an incision that raised immediate concerns (photos show the incision 24 hours after surgery and again two weeks later). After two weeks, we contacted the clinic and were asked to come in immediately because they also found the photos concerning. When we returned, staff acknowledged it did not look right, and the owner ultimately repaired it himself, stating that it should never have left the office in that condition. After sharing photos of the original incision with two other veterinary providers, both expressed concern about how it was closed and explained that it appeared improperly done, increasing the risk of infection and unnecessary pain for our dog. Following the repair, the staples continued to look concerning. As pet parents, we were no longer comfortable taking chances and sought emergency veterinary care. We have since transferred our dog's care to another provider. What made this experience even more upsetting was how our concerns were handled afterward. Communication became dismissive and defensive rather than supportive or reassuring. Trust is everything when it comes to your pet's health. Unfortunately, that trust was lost, and I would not recommend this clinic for surgical care. If you care deeply about your pet, please proceed with caution. read more

Made an appointment for a slab fracture for my dog, did not see the vet at all during the initial visit, but was assured this was a procedure that they commonly did. Had all pre surgery blood work completed and was given the okay to book surgery, as they told me all results returned back normal. Went in for surgery, was told my dog would be fine and they would update me later on in the day. Also paid upfront for the whole procedure as they make all clients pay PRIOR to surgery. Called for an update for them to tell me that my dog had stopped breathing during anesthesia and that they could not move forward, then later changed their response to they were waiting for another doctor to come in to use different medications in order to perform the tooth extraction? Dr. Ballou then called me after 6pm to tell me he just broke the broken part of the tooth out... and put a resin covering on the rest of the tooth? Also informed me that my dog should not go under anesthesia unless it was absolutely emergent and he suspected that he had underlying heart disease. (My dog showed no signs and symptoms of heart disease so this was very hard to believe.) But was happy to bring my dog back home alive and well after such a stressful day. Ultimately did not believe anything the vet and practice told me regarding his care, and thought it was more of an infection/abscess risk for my dog to have half his tooth broken under the gum line. I also found it very strange that my dog didn't have a shaved spot for IV placement when under going anesthesia...and for a dog that had complications with going under he was very awake and uppity when picking him up... Asked for all my dog's records and took him to another vet, the new vet said he did just fine under anesthesia and both premolars were extracted, no complications, no underlying heart disease. I would not recommend any pet owners bring their pets here. I feel like they were not transparent regarding my dog's care and felt like they agreed to do a surgery that they were either not able to perform or were not practicing safely to ensure the pets safety to perform and then lied to me about heart disease to not take accountability. Let me start out by saying the parking lot is not the best nor is the waiting room. I had an appointment for my dog at 3.30pm. I was not seen until after 4.30pm. I was irritated a little bit until I realized the vet was in the back operating trying to save an animal with needed surgery. I am quite happy with the veterinarian Shane. He takes great pride in his work and loves animals. I used to go to a vetinary clinic in Oakland township where you walk out of there each time is 300 dollars. I left the clinic with a $154 dollar bill. I feel good my dog is in good hands here at this clinic. I do not know why others are complaining unless they would rather pay a three-hundred-dollar bill per visit? read more

I recently took my Rottweiler there he is three legs and a torn acyl in one of them they told me that they wanted to do some X-rays they made me muzzle my dog and then they came and asked me if they could date him to take some X-rays I told him no they then said that they would send him home with 5 days with a prescription and that was that when I called after 6 days to get a refill I was told by the office manager that I would not receive any refills without getting x-rays they would not prescribe a dog medication without knowing what was wrong with it which they already had I told her I wanted to speak with the doctor she told me there was no way the doctor was going to prescribe any refills for me I told her I didn't want a doctor that wouldn't prescribe me refills because an office manager told him not to and I left and I won't be back read more

BEWARE: COINS OVER CUSTOMER SERVICE While being waited on, I witnessed Shayne Ballou, the doctor on site, yell at his staff about being on "his time" during lunch while the clerk was assisting me with my transaction. I realized that he wasn't as upset with the fact that she was still working at lunch, as he was about having to pay her during lunch time. If you work for him, please know that Shayne doesn't want you working on his dollars assisting customers who come in before lunch begins or you'll get yelled at in the presence of those customers for helping the customers who keeps his establishment open. Keeping in mind that I came in while the doors were still open and waited several minutes behind someone who was receiving assistance. Since he was so rude to his staff during my transaction, I spoke out for her because he was extremely unprofessional, and distracting me AND HER from completing the transaction. I told her to hand me my card and close it out. No customer or staff should have to deal with lousy service and lousy bosses who only cares about saving his coins over customer service. read more

Unfortunately, I had to give a star in order to write this review. Recently I came to this veterinarian only because a rescue sent me here. I walked in felt immediately dirty, did not want to even sit in the chairs (stains on them, ripped just gross). The fish tank in the lobby, assume was there for decoration, was nothing but algae growing on the side. Again, only there because the rescue sent me there to get vaccines for a rescue pup. After waiting 2 hours, me asking several times what is taking so long as we had an appointment, a male employee led me to a room that was equally disgusting. Employee seemed to have no knowledge of vaccines, or better yet, we also test pups for PARVO and the employee told me to take pup outside to try and get a sample. If you do not know, PARVO is highly contagious!! I recommend we do not do that, asked for the PARVO snap test and employee brought me the swap to obtain myself. I AM NOT THE EMPLOYEE YOU ARE! This employee seemed as if he had no idea what to do. After another wait, employee took puppy to back, heard laughter and talk about me. So unprofessional!!!! Oh, by the way, never saw the so-called Dr. of this practice. After almost 3 hours of unsafe veterinary practice (like trying to have customer obtain fecal sample), I left feeling more disgusting then when I arrived. Just wanted to get home and take a shower. I have worked with many rescues and many veterinary practices in all three counties, PLEASE DO NOT EVER, EVER USE THIS PRACTICE, DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. The workers were rude and dodgy about pricing. I couldn't get a straight answer and received different information depending on who I was talking to. The practice is also being accused of sharing personal information of clients online who have left negative reviews (not yet proven, just complaints and journalist trying to investigate without cooperation of the company) but based on them not being up front about pricing and their rude behavior, I would avoid them. My dog wasn't scared out of his mind like he usually is after leaving a petco or other local groomers. Very affordable and MUCH faster than petco. Usually they take 4+ hrs and Shannon got us in early and was done within 2hrs. Shannon asked and took note of what I wanted/needed cut wise and he loves his little bandana he left with we are excited to come back for our next appointment! read more

Just left ... Stay cat with the normal eye infection. I pulled up and was scared to enter. The smell and the condition of the place was wrong. Think positive.... This place is just here to help the animals and struggling families who love their pets and not about the money. No invoice first... Which I agree with. I would not recommend. They could improve on their honesty I would never ever take another pet there. I had an experience with my dog on September 30 of this year she had to be euthanized. She was very sick so I took her there. I was quoted $400 to euthanize my dog to AND to have her her ashes mailed to my home It's been a month it's now and I still haven't received anything so I gave them a call And they told me that they could not send my dogs ashes because it was too long ago and I signed a piece of paper declining her paw print and her ashes, which is untrue. I went up there today to talk to the owner about it. I just want them to admit that they did something wrong and they asked me to leave the establishment. They did provide a signed document showing I requested the services which true but they would not provide a fee list of there services I asked the young lady at the front desk the cost for euthanization and was quoted 200. They did provide a receipt showing the amount I paid but would again would not provide a price list After the brief conversation the manager told her not to talk to me and I was asked to leave I would not trust them and I would not recommend you take your animals there read more

I was nervous about going to a vet because the last time I went, my sweet cat of 15 years was diagnosed w cancer and I had to put her down. I now have two new cats and was concerned about taking them to the vet because although they're cuddly to me, they get anxious outside the home and don't like the car or their cage. I chose this vet because there were good reviews, but I cannot express enough how fifteen minutes here made me want to run out the door - which I did. The "parking lot" is a hot mess of cars double or triple parked in front of the building, and I have no idea how people didn't get stuck constantly between that and the complete lack of plowing or salt. I guess they don't care if you fall. When I got into the lobby, a woman was screaming and arguing with two people at the front desk. I probably just should've left then, but I waited for about ten minutes. No one offered to take me back into an exam room until I asked, amidst the ongoing screaming, if they could cancel my appointment so I could leave. They told me they could take me back, but it wasn't to an exam room, just a tiny hallway with a janky door through which I could hear the woman screaming that now she was calling the cops. It didn't help that the heater in the little hallway closet I was shoved into was broken so the heat element was exposed - definitely something to be wary of if you were bringing dogs that could bump into that and burn themselves. I looked around and started noticing how filthy the place was and how poorly kept it looked. Holes in the walls, the door didn't even have a handle. Once I realized the screaming wouldn't stop from that woman and I definitely wasn't going to be seen anytime soon - my guess is all employees were dispatched to deal w her - I left. I was already nervous and stressed about coming to a vet after losing my last cat, and this experience was horrible. The business doesn't have control over how their patrons act so it's not their fault this woman was screaming, but the things they did have control of - the dangerous and haphazard parking lot, the cleanliness and upkeep of the building, the handling of patrons that weren't screaming - were a huge disappointment. I'd never be comfortable letting a mess of an office like this handle my pets, and I felt horrible that I subjected my already stressed cats to this horrible experience. read more

Let me begin by saying that my parents had been coming to this place for years and had consistently received a high quality of service and care for their dogs from the older Indian DVM that had previously been the owner and operator. Since Dr. Ballou took over however, the quality of service has fallen precipitously. I recently scheduled a visit about a week ago for an assessment of my newly adopted kitten, who seems to have an upper respiratory infection. Instead of doing a swab analysis and determining the underlying nature of the condition which is standard practice for any competent and qualified practicing veterinarian to follow, the incompetent Ballou just prescribed some generic antibiotics for my kitten which have had absolutely no effect in ameliorating his symptoms. My original appointment had been on a Tuesday at 230 PM. I was not taken in to the examination room until 318 PM, which meant that I had to wait for nearly 50 minutes for them to honor their appointment time. I just returned there again today, despite my better judgement, and decided to give Ballou another chance as he had been an affable sort of guy despite his misdiagnosis and failure to adhere to proper treatment protocols. While scheduling the appointment I asked their receptionist several times whether they would be able to take me on time this afternoon and she assured me that they would. I ended up waiting more then 25 minutes before I finally went to the front desk and asked whether they were ever going to see me. I was told to enter one of the examination rooms which I did. I was then told by another member of this highly disorganized and incompetent staff that I had to leave the room as there were still several patients in front of me. I asked to speak with Dr. Ballou at that point whom I then overheard in the hallway threatening to call the police if I didn't leave his clinic immediately. I will never go back to Bloomfield Pointe again and I regard Ballou as completely disorganized, unprofessional, prima facie incompetent and condescendingly belligerent. The guy has no idea how to run a business or treat paying customers. If I had sufficient time to complain to the licensing board and get your DVM rescinded I would. You deserve to go out of business. read more

do not come here if you love your pet, I had them preform an ear crop for my Great Dane and this guy completely mutilated my dogs ears and then when the sutures came out they blamed me. Emily said that we might need an e-collar. The way she said it made it sound like yeah it's no big deal you might or might not no worries wrong big worries you absolutely need an e-collar immediately after surgery you think they would have them on tap for these procedures but no. If it was explained the correct way I would've got one right after picking her up. How would I spend almost 800.00 to have the surgery fail not realistic. So we call and go back after the bandages completely came unwrapped and her ears were exposed. Upon our second visit they started playing the blame game that it was out fault. They had the ears completely wrapped all wrong and they said that in the original bandage they posted the ears THERES NOTHING TO POST THEY CUT THEM OFF COMPLETELY. So after a re-suture they said come back in a week,18 hours later they start to smell so we go to another vet where they said there were infected and they wanted us to wait a week I mean what the heck !!!!. The second vet thought that I cut the ears omg I couldn't believe it I had to show them the recipes from this guy that I didn't do a garage ear cut so crazy!!! They had no sense of accountability in anything that went wrong and just pointed there fingers at us. My wife is so upset at these people for what They did She is still not over it. I don't feel he knows what he's doing please please please please heed my warning stay away from this place espically if you are animal lovers like we are I just wished I heeded the warning left by countless others. He is on top of his game when it comes to taking care of his patients and spending time to thoroughly explain what's going on with your pet. It's a no frills practice but don't let that fool you. I just took my chihuahua here to have her teeth cleaned. First time was last year. Initial visit, pre-surgery blood work was not required. Teeth were cleaned and 4 bottom front teeth needed to be removed. Total cost for that visit $248. This visit pre-surgery blood test was required without providing of cost ($200). Teeth cleaning and removing of 1 tooth cost ($649.59), again without any notification of the increase of $266.00. I was also told when I dropped her of, she would need an e-collar after surgery. I'd never heard of an e-collar (protective neck cone). This had never been required in the entire 11.5 years of her life and veteranary care. I had to sign a release form, stating I was refusing to follow doctors orders. The front office person was very curt and short, stating this was the office policy. I asked when it had changed and she stated ever since I've been. I'd never seen her before. PLEASE BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU ARE WALKING INTO. Dr. Ballou also never introduced himself to me the first time we came in to see him. He may be a good clinician, but he and his staff don't know or care about the parents of his patients. read more

He is compassionate and give you the real deal on whats wrong , he has my business forever , I wish every profession had this guys honesty and caring, he has taken care of all 5 of my pets and is super affordable and does not try to do things that don't need to be done he is q no nonsense Dr ,I refer everyone in my family and all my friends , even people I see with pets , don't take my word for it , go in and see for yourself this will be the last veterinarian you will ever see. read more

You have a choice where you bring your pet, your pet's life depends on it! Dr(?) Ballou killed my dog. Bloomfield Pointe Veterinarian Hospital's incompetence of removing a tumor, completely, lead to more tumors 4 months later. The surgery was the sloppiest surgery I have ever seen, it was like he used a dual butter knife to preform. After picking my dog up and carrying her home, I received a voicemail that stated they gave me another patient's prescription but that I should still give it to her as instructed on the bottle (I'm sorry Shaun Tucker, I hope your dog "Danger" is okay.... Not sure whose medicine you received or what hippa violations where made of me having your info) *note, the numbers of pills inside the bottle was also incorrect. I trusted Bloomfield Pointe Veterinarian Hospital. If you're a malpractice lawyer reading this; I did archive the voicemail and kept the wrong subscribed medicines and pill bottles. I just couldn't stomach the pain and grief this steered up in my heart, perusing a lawsuit. I have to live with the fact that I trusted this veterinarian, I forced a medicine on my puppy and then had to watch her body react and then die from it. Furthermore, when malpractice was mentioned, Dr Ballou chuckled and said, "you're not going to get what you think your pet is worth, I don't pay legal fees and they would just pro rate the life of your dog. I get threats like this all of the time..." Some one needs to take action on a veterinarian that hurts pets so often that they get threatened of lawsuits all the time and have no fear of the repercussions of their incompetence and carelessness. We took my dog to see Dr Ballou. We thought she had a bowel obstruction, which turned out to be pancreatitis. Dr. Ballou was wonderful along with his entire staff. Within 3 days it was like she was never sick. The most caring and compassionate Vet that we have ever taken our dogs to. I wouldn't take them anywhere else!! I do not recommend this place based on their horrible customer service. I called into the office and asked when the best time to bring my dog in for a pregnancy test was. I told the person who answered the phone when my dog was bred and they told me that I could bring her in on Dec 20th for the test. I send my husband into the office and he called me to tell me that the vet didn't even know why she was there. He said the vet walked in and said "why is she here is she sick", when all she was there for was a blood draw. He kind of just shook it off and we continued with the appointment. MY HUSBAND had to hold our dog while the blood was being drawn, and when the brought him back the results the vet tech told him that she was negative HOWEVER there is a margin of error before 25 days. This really irked me because if they had just told me that when I booked the appointment I would have waited until she was over the margin for error. I called into the office and got a return call from one of the vets ( I dont remember his name). I tried to explain to him why I was frustrated and he kept just repeating back to me that the test CAN pick up pregnancy as early as 18 days but that in his 'clinical experience' it can be a false negative between 18 to 25 days post breeding. I repeated that I felt I should have been told this when I booked the appointment and he just kept repeating what he originally said. He then stated that "I have the right to ignore the negative test". Uh what? No the whole reason I wanted the test was to know with SCIENCE if she is pregnant! If I was going to go singularly based on her behavior I would never have paid $80 for a freaking blood draw! I said "I understand but" and as I tried to reword myself for the 4th time he cut me off and said "You keep saying you understand but I don't think you do". WOW. At this point my fuse was so short I told him that he had HORRIBLE customer service and that he needed to stop talking over me. AS I AM ASKING him to stop talking over me he started to talk over me again. I ended up saying a few choice words and hanging up. At the end of the day all I wanted was an "I'm sorry in the future we will definitely inform our customer", and maybe give me a couple dollars off the next test since at this point I need to repeat it since there is a Margin for error. Talking over me and overall being unprofessional is not the way to go. read more
