I had my first visit at Spartan Veterinary yesterday for my lil 17 year old senior guy. What initially brought me here is their affordable pricing which was HALF the price I was quoted for testing from the vet I had been using. This is really important to me to maintain the health of my senior pup and make sure he gets the testing he needs. When I arrived, I noticed a sign the said 'Welcome' and had his name listed. Before we were placed in a room, he got a cute little bandana that they sprayed with pheromones to help him stay calm. It's little thoughtful touches like this that really matter and help you and your pet feel at ease. After his testing was done, I spoke to Doctor Boatman who was extremely thorough. I could tell that she very thoroughly read and digested his previous records and his current tests we came in for because when she spoke with me, she was very clear and concise with the best plan of action moving forward. She's a very straight shooter which I greatly appreciate. My appointment was at 5:30 and I didn't leave until 7 when they closed. She actually took the time to speak very frankly with me and answer all my questions. I really appreciate the time she took to explain everything and give her very honest opinion. I did not feel rushed at any point even though they were closing, and I felt like I was able to ask all my questions and get satisfactory answers. I also appreciate their later hours as I was able to get to my appointment after work without having to rush. The pro: they got me in quick as a new patient for my cat with a lump under his chin. Also receptionist and vet techs were so kind and friendly. The office visit fee was reasonable price. Con : the vet came in and immediately told me to up the cats thyroid medicine by double ( my cat has hyperthyroid) despite no blood tests of current levels and me explaining that in April, we increased his dosage at the recommendation of our normal vet based on my cats blood test results. I explained my cat had not gotten a blood test done yet to recheck his levels since the increase in April. She did not offer to complete a blood test that day. The vet didn't offer any tests for the lump on my cats neck or the fact he was losing weight and starting to nip at us. It was a wait and see approach. Which is fine, but I was obviously there because of being concerned. It took 1 1/2 hours to get exactly no helpful information . Also when vet techs came in to talk to the vet about other patience's medicine needs, the vet gave me very little confidence she new what she was doing but the vet tech seemed great. Honestly, when I came home , I researched online to see if she was an actual licensed vet. So after that visit , I kept my appointment with my regular vet for the following Tuesday. And did not increase the thyroid medicine for my cat. In the same amount of time in their office, my vets office did a cytology on the lump for my cat, blood work for his thyroid and saw my 2nd cat for dental issues. Results for my cat: he has an aggressive form of cancer and his thyroid levels were fine. So who knows what would of happened if I listened to the advice of the vet. I am so happy with Spartan Vet. My 3yo shepherd mix is TERRIFIED of the vet. We switched to Spartan Vet based on a friend's recommendation. The staff at Spartan Vet treat him with love and care and do everything to make him feel comfortable and safe. From the welcoming bandana, to the safe treats, to the "happy" visits ... it has been an amazing experience and makes the vet visit full of care rather than a traumatizing experience. I've been going to Spartan Veterinary Clinic for my dog; I have a senior Yorkshire Terrier with heart issues. The Vet I was going to previously was good, but too busy and with my dog's health issues, could not get him in during critical times. Dr. Boatman and her staff have been tremendously supportive and caring about the welfare of my Yorkie. He is doing very well now on the medication he has been given. Very pleasant staff and the office is decorated very nicely in Michigan State colors. They are always able to get my dog in and show compassion. read more

I called to make an appointment to do a blood test for my dog. Appointed within a week. We came to the appointment and they started saying that they can't do a blood test for a dog! What? Are you kidding me? I did not go to work because of this, I lost money. Why couldn't you have said this over the phone a week ago? This analysis is needed for his neurologist and we have an appointment with him in 3 days! They began to lie that they called the neurologist and were told that we do not have any appointment! The service was fantastic, they offer a teacher discount which is GREATLY appreciated, and the staff clearly has a deep love for animals. Just had an AMAZING experience with the team at SVA! Stephanie & Katie were so warm and welcoming and made us feel right at home. My daughter has a service dog from PAWS with a Cause and it's important to me that this dog only receives the finest of care since so much has gone into his training. They are giving too much power to the "HELP"... had to lay my dog to rest this morning. The procedure went well. Upon exiting the room of my decease dog, staff member Lotti (with a mop and a bucket) approach me with no regard or empathy, asking, "DID YALL PAY?". How are you, is everything ok? first, would have been sufficient. Considering I was in the middle of crying... I was absolutely appalled that anyone could be so insensitive and thoughtless. Who gave her permission to invade and question my payment status in such a manner anyway. Sarah at the front desk had taken my payment upon arrival. When I made a complaint to her about Lotti she too was very unconcerned and unapologetic. I am a woman of dignity and integrity, and I feel so violated. Do not bring your pets here. Dr Boatman missed a diagnosis for my dog ... was an inner ear infection. She had a second chance to catch it two weeks later on a recheck and never even looked into his ear his condition obviously worsened.... By the time I got him in at his regular veterinarian he had damage to his inner ear and is still being treated. read more
