I used to work down the street from this location a couple years ago and the employees would always go the extra mile to help me get my food quickly on my breaks, so I appreciate the thought provided in their service then. However the last few times I have visited, I haven't been as impressed with any aspect of the Bloomington Bagel Co. I'm not sure if there has been a change in management, but I feel there may be some sort of miscommunication on training and expectations at this location specifically. For example, I visited this morning around 10:30 am. In fairness, it was a typical busy Sunday after a home IU game - but the whole staff seemed to be a hot mess. We had 5 people in our group and everyone took time to order individually to help the process on a busy morning. The employees lacked communication on who had given their order, what item belonged with what group, and menu items in general. 3 out of the 5 people in our group had to restate our order multiple times, because the employees that took our order didn't write it down and did so while still helping other customers. While standing in line we were debating between regular bagels or bagel sandwiches, but we decided to stick with regular bagels after seeing an employee place the pre-made egg whites for sandwiches on the bare counter/table top that was covered in crumbs and other grime before throwing them in the microwave to be heated up. We were hoping for a fresh breakfast sandwich so this sight made us stay clear of anything other than plain bagels. At the register, we all had to provide our orders for the 3rd-4th time because they never wrote them down, never labeled any of the items, and there was no communication between employees. The service was rushed and messy and I think the staff could benefit from some sort of new, more organized system to reduce stress for employees and increase service for customers. I'll give 2 stars for my previous experiences, but I think it's generous given the poor experiences I've had over the last year. read more

Just a block removed from the courthouse square, I found this coffee/bagel shop after street parking nearby (metered). I had been exploring the area west of the square on a chilly day and a cup of coffee seemed like a good plan. Yelp directed me to this nearby location. Located on the corner, there is a small seating area by the entrance and then a counter area along the south wall. There I found a selection of baked goods and coffees ready to go. I picked a blueberry scone with large sugar crystals (turbinado?) and a small cup of Hazelnut coffee to go. The staff were very helpful in showing me where to find the lids and other items (I didn't need the cream/sugar). Both the coffee and scone were really good. The coffee was right on the edge of being too hot, but I was able to drink it promptly without feeling the burn, so that's a plus! Service was prompt and I was soon on my way. Review #3415 read more

Yikes. So many things wrong about this place. First of all, it reminded me of a small corner coffee shop in NY-not clean, but not really dirty. And just remember for later in the paragraph: We were the only ones there, it took over 20min, and we were asked to make a donation for troubled youth 1. I asked what flavor notes their beans were and he scooped them out with a cup and he "showed me" Then he poured them into my hands 2. I asked for a latte and he said "he can try" followed by him asking "how do you make a latte, again?" 3. The two workers traded positions at this point and he started making a sandwich that was already made-asking what was on the hot and bothered bagel 4. He told the other guy just take as many of the $1s out of the donation box for troubled youth which really bothered me... 5. Then after everything was sitting out and getting cold he wrapped it up the sandwich's and there was part of an extra sandwich and hash brown out He was like did one of you have a hash brown in something? I was like it was in my sandwich He took it out and opened it and saw no hash brown so asked well what do you want me to do? Make a new one or put it in between ((I didn't want to be wasteful so I said put in between)) He proceeded to cut my sandwich in half and put it -not in the sandwich but LITERALLY in between the two halves I'm not super picky and I love bagels, but that was the roughest so needless to say I will not return. read more

Bloomington Bagel, you are what dreams are made of. One very serious complaint in Cincy - WE DON'T HAVE ANY HOME GROWN BAGEL SHOPS! (ok, one Marx). This is a crime against humanity. Bloomington Bagel is legit. These bagels are boiled, dense, and chewy just the way I like them! We opted for a bacon egg and cheese on an Asiago bagel. The bagel itself was CLUTCH. Great texture and cheese was an awesome addition. The egg left little to be desired -1. We also got an everything bagel and they let us pick two cream cheese flavors which was SO nice! We got the chive on one half and the garlic and herb on the other. Again - bagel was insanity. So, so good. The chive was not the best I've ever had, but the garlic and herb on the other hand was KILLER. It also had something spicy in it (I happen to love spicy) but I was surprised for people who don't that it wasn't listed as spicy. I will be dreaming of this spread. I really preferred the bagel + cream cheese over the sammie just because it really let the bagel be the star of the show. However they do have some other really creative sammie options if that's your thing. On one hand I wish this place was down the street from me, and on the other - I'm glad it's not because I would be here every. single. day. Pro tip: Check out the tables they had made from the curated pictures of fans around the world holding bagels: in the desert, underwater, during their children's BIRTH! This BBC blows. Every single time. All the coffee except for decaf was out at 10 AM on a Saturday. No sleeves available for your coffee, either. The assembly line of indifferent employees is a sh*t show. They skip customers, mess up orders, and generally give no f*#@s. The girl on the register was so stoned, she needed her hand held through every transaction. 10 bucks for two bagels with barely any cream cheese and two coffees that by default had to be decaf? Nope. I've always loved BBC, and probably always will. But today I give it 3 stars because lately it has been lacking. I unfortunately have to watch the kids behind the counter to make sure they make the bagel sandwiches with the correct ingredients. Do they have the same list behind the counter that we see on the glass in front? Also one girl had long hair hanging out (in a pony tail but still over her shoulder) while making food. And I witnessed her rubbing her nose & face with her gloved hand before asking for my order so I asked her to change her gloves and she very politely did. So I do appreciate that! BBC is a great spot for a quick breakfast on the go. My wife and I used to come here during college and we thought we'd relive the glory days for a weekend. We ordered our old "usual" breakfast bagel sandwiches - for me it's a sausage, egg, and cheese on a Jalapeño bagel. While I agree that the sandwich fillings used to be more plentiful, it was still a satisfying bagel sandwich and filled me up. The Jalapeño bagel adds just the right amount of heat for me. This was my first time at Bloomington Bagel Company and I have to say, I was impressed. I got the onion bagel with garlic and herb schmear and a cinnamon sugar bagel with some kind of honey and almond schmear. Both were very delicious and loaded with the schmear. I came here today on 06/17/17 about 2:30pm. The taste of Bloom is actually happening today. I decided to come inside and give this place a try. It was not busy at all. When I walked up I was unsure of where to place my order. I was standing at the front of the counter for a good 2 min and the young man behind the counter was standing there and did not say anything until I asked him a question about the bagels. My bagel was very good I cannot complain it did not fall apart on me I was happy. I give the food 4 stars but the staff are nice but don't seem to happy to work. My wife was down at IU for a mentoring thing and picked up some bagels for home. Delicious. Make sure you grab some cream cheese to go along. We had a dried tomato one that went very well with the "non-desert " ones and an almond one for the sweet bagels. Mouth-watering creamcheese spreads, great bagel selection, delicious coffees, fast and friendly service! This place is a favorite of mine if you can't tell. I freqently get the breakfast bagel sandwich, which comes with egg, choice of meat, choice of cheese, and of course choice of bagel. Egg and meat are pre-cooked and reheated in the microwave, but the resulting sandwich is still delicious. Highly recommended for breakfast. I used to enjoy coming here for bagels but my most recent experience has made me consider never coming back. I ordered an oatmeal and was sad to hear that they had no brown sugar available. I accepted regular sugar in the place of, and waited for my oatmeal to be prepared. When I received my oatmeal I noticed that it was not fully cooked but there was a generous amount of sugar so I put a lid on it and let it sit while I continued with my day. I heard a lot of good things about the BBC but I wasn't impressed my first time there. The blueberry bagel was very bland but the spread made it edible. The mocha coffee was also bland and made by someone who has never made one in his life and he said so himself. There should be a recipe for them if they don't know how to make one or let me order a regular coffee. Anyway I thought I'd give it another try since it is closer to my work. And this time it wasn't that bad. The egg and cheese bagel sandwich was very delicious and the mocha coffee was made spot on this time by someone who knew how to make it. B-town Bagel Co. Always satisfying my carb cravings in the morning. I am a creature of habit and have only had the cinnamon sugar bagel with cinnamon sugar shmear. It's fabulous. Gimme that baby toasted with a cup of hazelnut coffee and I am good to go. Their bagel sammies always sound delish and the desserts sitting out always look amazing. Can't wait for my next visit. The bagels are really good, but I could fly to New York and get a cheaper bagel sandwich than by eating at the Bloomington Bagel Company. I got a turkey bagel sandwich for lunch, and it was really good and filling, but it cost about $7. That's for just a sandwich, without chips or drink. The price is a shame, because I would eat here again if it was cheaper, but as it is now it's just not worth it. The sandwich prep area was also dirty, with certain food items making their way into other food items. Some of the staff seemed really friendly, but the person making my sandwich spoke extremely quietly and was hard to understand. He was unwilling to do anything besides tell me to read the menu and was annoyed when I asked the price a second time. He also did not offer my receipt. Better than anything you'll find in a store, but less than anything you'll find in Manhattan, IMHO.
