My friends and I were driving thru Bloomington and wanted coffee. We stopped here because the menu options sounded good. Two of us got the honey bear latte and one got the Mexican latte. Both of us that got the honey bear did not care for the coffee. The honey was a strong artificial flavor- I think they just used a cheap honey and added too much. Our other friend with the Mexican latte said it just tasted plain and like regular black coffee. I wouldn't recommend, it doesn't seem like anything special at all. And the service wasn't that great. Seemed like the cashier was just trying to get through the day and didn't care to chat with the customers at all. You honestly get better service at Starbucks. read more

Was excited to try a new coffee place (visiting from Zville). I ordered the Honey Bear Latte Nonfat and my son ordered the Mexican Mocha Latte. A little underwhelmed with both. so disappointed with my cake order. paid 50$ for a 9" inch round lemon cake with lemon frosting and requested yellow frosting with yellow roses and orange roses. I received a cake with white frosting, not a single decoration that represented a rose and green leaves to add to the color. it was such a simple order. The taste was a bit off for lemon as well. We visited Crumble when our favorite Bloomington bakery was closed. But I'm kind of glad that the other bakery was closed, because I got to discover Crumble, another fine Bloomington bakery. I wanted something sweet but I didn't know what to order, so two things: an almond scone and a blueberry croissant. The blueberry croissant was really good and unusual -- I had never had a fruit croissant before. The scone was huge and good, too. They had a lot of different pastries and baked good to choose from. I got a cup of black coffee to go, and it was OK -- it was a little bitter, but I bet it would have tasted better with cream and sugar (although I don't take my coffee with cream and sugar, so that was the problem). read more

Very cozy place! I love the warm wood interior. They have lots of specialty drinks and a great variety of sweet and savoury baked goods. Whether you're looking for breakfast, light lunch, or dessert, and whether you're a tea or coffee person, you will find something here (except maybe not if you're vegan or gluten-intolerant - they have nondairy milks, but I didn't notice any vegan or gf pastries). I had a Red Pepper & Sweet Potato Quiche, an Almond Joy Cookie, and a Lavender Vanilla Chai Latte. All the food was delicious. I don't think I've had sweet potato in a quiche before but the texture worked really well with the egg base. The pastry crust was also perfect. The cookie was soft and thick, and they offered to warm it up for me which was a nice finishing touch. The chai latte was also great. The lavender flavour was subtle but it gave the drink a very smooth and soothing flavour. I really like that the lavender vanilla flavour is in the concentrate they use rather than being from added syrup on top of a standard chai concentrate, so you get a good depth of flavour with less excess sweetness. The baristas were really nice. There was a small chalkboard that listed some of the quiches/galettes, but it looked like there was more in the case than what was on the board, and I also wanted to ask about the two chai flavours, so I had a lot of questions, but the staff was really helpful and didn't get impatient. I have been to this location three separate times within a three month timeline, as it is close to where I live. The drinks tasted good and were warm each time. I especially enjoyed how flavorful the fall apple chaider was. However, my issue with this location is that every single time, the quiche slices were ice cold. The first time I thought it was a mistake, the second time I thought it was a fluke because they were busy. The third time was when I confronted the barista about the issue after I took the first bite. She said that they couldn't reheat the ice-cold quiche because it's a health violation (totally valid and understandable). I didn't appreciate that they did nothing to compensate my order, since the cold eggs tasted nasty. Hope they get a new microwave soon. read more

Dropped by Crumble for the first time last week. Ordered a small mocha. Staff was cordial and I got my drink quickly. Unfortunately, the mocha was underwhelming. It tasted like regular coffee with a very slight mocha flavor. Not sure if that is normal for a Crumble mocha or what. It was not sweet at all, and I was expecting it to be a bit sweet. I should have tasted it before I left because I would have added some sweetener. I do want to go back and try again. They have some delicious-sounding drinks for the cold weather season. If I could have went to Crumble everyday of my Bloomington stretch I would have. I feel like I'm a bit of an authority on coffee shops since I'm at one almost everyday. Make no mistake this is a solid choice in Bloomington. The campus location is close to Indiana University grounds and offer off street meter and garage parking. The walk up was debris free, however way too much road debris from a recent patch was everywhere. Also the concrete was spalling horribly. Usually this is from using rock salt in the winter and not clearing off. The shop has a cool open air vibe with tons of dark wood and communal table as the centerpiece. Tables and floor were clean on both of my visits. A group of students were gathered in a corner studying. I imagine this is a huge student study shop. Ordering is at the counter by iPad and tips can be applied. Large menu boards on the wall provide your direction. The bakery items are beautifully displayed so you can see exactly what your getting. They make them in house and from my experience you better not skip. I enjoyed vanilla mochas and quiche on both of my visits. The spinach quiche was my favorite. It was fresh and light and so scrumptious! The mochas were among the best I've ever had with pro latte art. Quality beans obviously, but I did not get their roaster. My friend got a cranberry scone that he loved. It appears the flavors and selections rotate, but the basic items remain the same. Checkout was flawless on both visits. However on neither occasion was there any type of get to know me, or even a smile. I did chat with a male barista to thank him. 4.5, rounding down. They can work on the service aspect at the counter. Maybe this was a fluke visit, but my samoan latte was only slightly warm when given to me. The staff were not friendly and seemed like they needed some espresso themselves. I was sitting waiting for my latte with my back to the bar assuming they would call it out. After a coupe minutes I turn around and my drink was just sitting there. Maybe I'm wrong for assuming they would tell me my drink is ready?? Is that too much to ask?? Anyways I was underwhelmed. I work close by and will often recommend it to people visiting, but maybe I'll rethink that. Also, I recently ordered online from them. I got there after my set pick-up time and told the barista I needed to pick up my online order. They said most times those orders don't come through, so I had to wait for them to make my drink. I know I gave the other Crumble location 3 stars, but i'm upgrading this location to 4 stars for the following... I visited this location on a Monday because Inkwell was closed. +1 already! I was immediately enticed by the new seasonal drink - the pistachio latte (homemade pistachio syrup, almond, freshly squeezed lemon). This latte was LOVELY. It reminds me of what Indy's Milktooth's pistachio-based drink HOPED to be. I really appreciate a strong pistachio flavor because I know how many little fellas have to be squeezed in order to develop a rich flavor for a subtle pistachio. Also, the lemon was a surprisingly nice touch. I liked the acid it added. Props to the barista or owner...or whoever made this beautiful seasonal drink! Perfect for spring. +2! I also sat for about an hour just reading a book. It's a more spacious area and seemed lively but not distractingly so. Stopped in Crumble for an afternoon pick-me-up during a work trip. I was immediately greeted by the friendliest staff who made me feel like a regular. I tried the chai latte and chocolate chip cookie- both amazing. I hung out for about an hour, reading and enjoying my treats in a cozy leather chair. We stopped in this coffee shop late in the afternoon to grab a beverage to warm us up. They have some metered street parking across College Avenue which we grabbed. The shop has a large order counter/bar and several folks working behind there. The shop is laid out with several very large communal tables and a handful of smaller ones. There is also a small wall mounted work area near the door way. The chairs are generally stool type without backs, but some of the smaller tables are a little more comfy. I went with a plain black drip coffee which was served at a drinkable temperature (Yeah!) The blend was on the strong side with a bit more bitterness than I prefer, but still full flavored. My wife got a hot chocolate that was large and yummy. She thought it was a little on the cool side, probably due to all the whipped cream added on top. If they could maintain the ratio of flavors while making it a bit hotter, she would have given it a 5 star rating. Nice folks working, generally good flavors, seems like a good place to stop by. One of my favorite places to study in Bloomington. The coffee is always delicious and you can never go wrong with the honey bear latte. If they don't ask you at the counter, ask for it "for here" and they will give you it in the cute latte cups. The people who work there are also extremely nice and they have a rewards system where if you get so many stars you get a free coffee. (Really exposing how much I go here) Only con I can think of is I just wish they would play a little less Lana del Rey and switch up their music a bit more, but this place really is one of the best! read more

What a great little find! Located downtown but not in a very busy part of time so it feels more convenient. The parking isn't bad either so yay! The atmosphere is great, like a normal coffee shop with large or small seating areas. The service was fast, very friendly and helpful. Stopped in to check out the bakery and grab a drink on my way home on 2/10/18. They were fairly busy with students studying or gathered for conversation. There really isn't much "bakery" about this place, and that was disappointing. They had a cherry scone and a couple of cookies. I got a hot chai latte and wasn't digging this particular spice blend. I saw that they had a Nutella cookie. The barista said that he was "pretty sure" the one in the glass jar was regular Nutella instead of the gluten-free version they sold. I got it and when we tried it later, we found out that he was mistaken. The cookie was chocolate, no hazelnut flavor at all. Crumble is a nice little café where you'll see college kids studying with their laptops all over the place. We were kind of full after we had lunch, so we ordered two cortados. The coffee is strong and flavorful, and they have a variety of pastries, cookies and scones. I tried the cherry almond scone and I'd never had a scone that tasted that good - sugar-crusted top and all. My husband tried the orange and olive oil cake (wanted to take a pic but he'd already eaten it) and it was nice and dense but also tangy and moist. Every time I have stopped in there have been less than five people doing their thing at a time. It's so chill, relaxing and there are few distractions. As for the coffee, it is good stuff. I've tried several of their baked goods and I'll be honest, they aren't out of this world. They look good but the taste was just so-so for me personally - with the exception of some of their cookies. I usually skip them, which is fine because I'm really there for the coffee! First refill is free which is about the perfect amount of caffeine for me personally. read more

Stopped in for a tea break with old friends on Labor Day around 11:15 AM. They ordered ahead of time and carried their gluten-free mocha bread (cake), spinach and egg galette, iced mocha drink, and lavender iced coffee out while we went in to order. The line was long enough that we decided to order online: a pink fizz (a coconut milk, rose syrup, and fizzy water iced drink) and a lavender chai. We hung out at one of the two outdoor tables for 45 minutes and went in a couple times to check on our drinks. They were slammed as many other places in Bloomington were closed due to the holiday. When we were about to cancel our order and request a refund, they had made our drinks. I enjoyed my pink fizz though it looked very different than the exciting dramatic photo on their website, and my partner enjoyed her latte too. Our friends liked their items too. Might recommend, as they have interesting signature lattes featuring coconut, caramel, cardamom, and more. One suggestion: would be great to change the labels on the single-stall restrooms to "all gender" or just take off the "women" and "men" labels. We were passing through and needed some good coffee. I got the seasonal Baklava latte and it was beyond amazing. One of the best lattes I've had anywhere. My husband had the seasonal cherry pie cold brew and it was very good too. Had almost a bourbon taste to it. I would definitely stop here again when in this area. Crumble has some excellent pastries and other baked goods that can make it worth the visit. On the other hand the coffee falls flat for me. As someone who looks for a strong full bodied espresso with Carmel and nut undertones, crumbles blend is disappointing. It's a shame because they have great equipment, and their baristas seem to know what they are doing, it's just the espresso itself that's disappointing. The drip coffee fare slightly better, so go for those and look elsewhere for a more memorable espresso experience. Another side note both crumble locations have an unusual smell that gets on my nerves. It's a odd scent of the coffee mixed with the bakery items, not the most pleasant for long periods of time. read more
