After a long day hiking, we made our way down from Grandfather mountain, enjoyed the views along the Blue Ridge Parkway as we drove to Blowing Rock. We found parking on a side street near Blowing Rock Brewing, so decided to enjoy a drink and get some lunch. We were seated quickly, near a heater, which was nice to help us warm up after being on the mountain. A waiter came by with menus to take our order. We asked for some suggestions, but he was a little less than enthused to offer advise. They had a good variety of beers, so my wife and I each got one, and shared them. We got the Pina Colada Kolsch and the Cloud Rise Hazy Ipa. Both were tasty, the Pina Colada Kolsch had a much stronger pineapple flavor than I expected, but in a good way. For food we started with the white cheddar poblano, which I expected to be more of a liquid queso for some reason. It was instead for of a soft, spread, which was really good, and paired well with the chips. And then we split the Turkey Reuben, which I figured would be made with deli meat, instead, it was warm, cooked chunks of turkey, really great flavor, and hit the spot for us. The sides with the sandwiches were a bit lacking, only offering hot chips, and green beans....I've never gotten the whole hot chip craze, but green beans just seamed like too odd of a side option for a sandwich It was a good visit, and a good meal, to get us back on our feet. Overall, a nice space, with bar seating, a back room, a back and front patio, plenty of space to hang out, relax and enjoy their beer. Great brewery in the heart of downtown Blowing Rock. There are plenty of places to relax with a cold one, whether you want to be inside, on the front patio or the back patio. We enjoyed some sun on their cozy front patio with some great drink. Bartenders are super friendly, and there is a nice variety of drink options. We didn't eat here on this day, but they have a full food menu as well. Some of the options that came out looked and smelled delicious. We're looking forward to another trip in the future! read more

Great experience! We went on a Thursday night and they were quickly able to seat our large party! They have lots of beer options and had a variety of food options. The southern fried chicken sandwich was really good! As far as sides- they only have 2 options- chips or green beans but the chips were homemade and delicious! The server was very quick and attentive and the vibes in the restaurant were fun! They also have plenty of outdoor seating. read more

When stopping in here, you've definitely got to have nothing on your agenda. The pace is a bit slower, which isn't *necessarily* a bad thing. The combination restaurant/bar/beer garden doesn't rush anything, especially the food, so just try to sit back and relax while chatting with complete strangers. The vibe we got here is that people come here to catch up with folks or make friendly conversations with their table neighbors. I came in here during early afternoon on a Sunday, ordered the Oktoberfest beer and chicken & wild rice soup, which was surprisingly very tasty and filling. Our waitress was also the bartender, so service was a little slower than it likely would have been had we been seated somewhere else. But needless to say, it's worth stopping in if you're looking for a cozy afternoon somewhere to kill time. read more

Wonderful lunch spot! Great indoor and outdoor seating, super friendly staff, and wonderful beer and food options. Everything was made in house, from the crostinis for our tapenade, homemade ranch for our wings, and homemade house chips for our burgers. Stopped in here after skiing for the day. Warm, pub-like atmosphere with fireplace in the dining area. If you go get the bison burger just as it comes and is designed to be eaten. It is amazing. I would also get the homemade chips unless you want to be healthy and then get the green beans. Both are good but I'd get the chips. Solid beers but the IPA is a little sweet for me. read more

We were in Blowing Rock for a long weekend and stopped in here twice for a cold beer. The first time was a Thursday night a bit later in the evening. Not crowded at all and we sat at the bar inside. Service was great. The locals there that night provided us with recommendations for dinner. This is such a nice community. Beer was very good and nice atmosphere. It did get crowded on Friday and Saturday for most of the day as we walked by the brewery several times due to where we were staying. Sat outside in the back on our second visit before dinner that night. We will absolutely go back on our next visit. read more

That second turned to 10-15 minutes all the while every other table was being tended to in our seating area. We got up and left so I cannot attest to the food/drinks. read more

I also had a side salad with was full of veggies and the ranch dressing was good. The hubs liked the cucumber beer. Over all great experience. Gorgeous spot to stop for lunch, but super crowded and long wait for the picnic tables out front. We opted to sit inside since there would be no wait, and the inside was relatively empty. The servers seemed to be running around taking care of multiple sections. Not sure if just short staffed or this is the norm. The server tried really hard and was super apologetic about the wait times, which was nice and kind. Our appetizer, the cheese curds (10/10 with those homemade ranch and chipotle aioli dipping sauces) came out quickly, but there was a bit of a wait for our entrees (one burger, one Caesar salad wrap, and two kids chicken tenders) to the point that we worried they'd forgotten about us. Overall good experience and the chicken Caesar wrap was amazing, but the burger could use some more fixings. Would probably not eat here again for a few years simply because the waitstaff was stretched too thin, but hopefully that is something they can sort out and maybe we just caught them on a bad day. read more

This place was so awesome and amazing and located in a smal little town up in the blue ridge mountains! We stopped in for lunch on our roadtrip to this small cool little mountain town! We were greeted and welcomed in by a very friendly and professional staff that made it seem like you were walking into someone's home and not a business! The food was delicious and very filling as I had the bison burger with fries which came out hot and fresh and was very tasty! I also had one of there house ales to enjoy with my lunch and that was amazing also! The ambience and atmosphere was very warm and homey and it didn't feel like you were in a business/ brewery! Will definitely be back to this place to try more of their house ales and food next time I'm in the area! I highly recommend you stop in and give this place a try as it's an amazing place from the service to the food and drinks and the views are breathtaking and it's an awesome and relaxing spot to enjoy some lunch!!! read more

Really wanted to like this place in downtown blowing rock, but unfortunately, this first visit will be my last. Ordered a flight for their beer and not one of the beers, IMO, was noteworthy, with most falling way flat on flavor. Adding insult to injury, they charged $12.50 for this flight which equates to a pint of beer. Ridiculous! I ordered the bison burger, but was told they were out of bison burgers, so then I ordered the Ale House burger and asked that it be cooked medium. Regrettably, I was served a burger that was well done, leaving it devoid of any flavor. Server told me that they have a new cook and he's been struggling a bit in the kitchen. The side of homemade chips were greasy and soggy and I could only find three of them that were edible. Overall a very disappointing experience. read more

The fantastic the great and the ugly. Fantastic beer. We drove across the state to try on tap what I've only had in the grocery store. It did not disappoint. I particularly loved the Red Rider, with its malty goodness. I also had the IPA. And we ordered a six pack of their Hazy IPA to go. All of it was delicious. My favorite was the Red. Great food - we had the bison burger and chicken sandwich, all of which were excellent. Even the green bean sides were fantastic. Way better quality food than what you might expect at a pub. It was delicious all around. Now for the ugly. The reason for the three stars was the service. We sat outside, but didn't see our server nearly the entire time. She took our order after 15 minutes, and that's pretty much it. She disappeared for a solid hour. And I mean that. We had to ask for napkins from other servers who rolled their eyes at us like we were an inconvenience. We had to source our own silverware for our hot food, but were told they had none. I ordered beer at the bar and brought it back to my table, because there was no one to order from. And yes, we went inside to try to find our server, but she was nowhere to be found. I understand they must be slammed but were also very disorganized and mismanaged, because every time we went inside for help, we'd hear servers complaining in front of customers about their situation. And a LOT of servers were complaining. Not sure if this is an employee problem or a management problem (or a combo of both), but what I do know is that this was the worst service I've ever had in a decade. At the very least, just communicate to us that it's a busy night. Don't abandon our table for an hour, to fend for ourselves with no communication. And definitely don't get snarky with us for pointing this out. Had it not been for the great food and beer (and incredible bartender who was quick to help), this would likely be a 1-star review. So my hats off to the chef, the brewmaster, and the bartender who were the only persons helping us enjoy the restaurant. My suggestion to visitors: Go inside and order their fabulous beer and food to go. And eat and drink somewhere else. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this small brewery when we were in Blowing Rock. It is not on the main street but not far from it so you can find it...if you can't you probably don't need another beer. We were seated promptly at a table towards the back area and it was nice and clean. The server was friendly and prompt in making sure we were taken care of that day. I had already had too much food for breakfast and so I just got an order of pretzels to go with my stout. The pretzels were four and came out super hot with some really good spicy mustard. My wife helped me with those and got the Bison chili which I had some and thought was okay but she loved it. All in all, a pretty good place to have some food and beer. read more

A lof people in the town of Blowing Rock, NC, so it was crowded in the Ale House of Blowing Rock Brewing the first time we walked up last weekend when we decided to have a bit of alcohol and something to eat. The hostess at the front asked where we wanted to sit and when we said we did not care she pointed to an empty bar table behind us saying that seating in the bar was first come first serve. So, we took it. Soon we had two barkeeps serving us. I opted for the Scotch ale, 7.8% ABV ($6.56) which was delightful and not a dark taste like a Guinness, and much smoother to me. My wife had a NA Partake Blonde beer. Now, for my meal, I had the Ale House Burger, which had local cheese, local mild pickles, lettuce, tomato and a perfect medium cooked beef burger. All of this was on a toasted Brioche bun. This was $17 well spent as the combination of flavors was something I wish that I could eat once a week, but a 5 hour drive is the only thing keeping me from it. My wife had a Caesar wrap which she complimented as being a delight. I took her word for that, as I did not sample it, although she offered. Our two servers were coming by, one after the other even though they had a lot of bar traffic, not only at the raised bar and 4 small tables, but for the rest of the restaurant. Quite a pleasant time and really good food, a place to visit again! NOTE THIS, ALTHOUGH I DID NOT LOWER MY SCORE BY AT LEAST ONE STAR: We came by the next day around 5:30 PM, not knowing if we wanted drinks only, appetizers, dinner, or a combination. A quite different hostess asked if we wanted to sit outside but as it was quite warm, we said no. She then sllasked whether we wanted drinks, appetizers or dinner. We told her we really didn't know and then she told us that they reserved seating for people who would be having dinner and thus she essentially was asking for that reason what we were wanting in the restaurant. When we said probably appetizers, she said that we would need to sit outside. Obviously they had seats available but not in the bar. I considered her rude as did my wife and thus we turned around and walked out. The hostess, like a greeter at a church should be a welcomer, a warm personality. That second visit we were not treated well, and spent no money there. read more

This is a great play...really large selection of solid to good beers. A good pretzel, hummus, shrimp tacos too. A good roasted pumpkin ale, good ipa and the big chocolate porter is a fav. Def go here while others shop and you will be happy like me! read more

A definite tourist destination, but we really enjoyed our post hike beers and food. Def. A brewery for the hiker/mountain-biker at heart. The building suits its theme, and the vibe is very communal (the outdoor seating is amazing but be prepared to wait on nicer days ). The brewers focus is on IPA style beers, which are our favorite. The flagship beers are quite good, but to me their strength lies in many of their rotating beers, which often use seasonal or local ingredients- especially the sours. Food was good- a little more on the expensive side for bar food but hey, it is what it is! We spend almost $100 for an app, sandwiches and a few beers (with tip) Great post-hike refreshment, feeling like you're in the woods while enjoying downtown. read more

Great place to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon in Blowing Rock. While we waited for a tables we enjoyed a flight of beers outside and then pita, carrots, celery and hummus appetizer. All while a young guitarist played music. Live music 2-5pm each Sunday. We really enjoyed Dakota! We started to get some rain, but stayed dry under the tent. We got a text that our table was ready and got seated inside before the bottom fell out. Seems mulch was blocking a drain to the sump pump and water started flooding into the restaurant. The hardworking staff teamed up to resolve the issue. They did not miss a beat. Beer was cold, bartender and waitstaff were friendly and professional. Our food was great! The olives with goat cheese, hummus, and fried cheese curds were awesome appetizers. I had a fried chicken sandwich. read more

Are breweries the new Chuck E. Cheese? Hey I wasn't expecting a brewery to be quiet - rather, sounds of adults having fun, laughing and drinking. Well there was some of that but loudest sounds were all the little kids screaming and running around. I guess some parents that lack giving kids any discipline or creating any boundaries think bringing their loud kids to a brewery is a great idea. It's not; its selfish and entitled The beer was pretty good here - I'd go 4 stars - but the burgers were overcooked and pretty basic.
