Bacon cheese burger
Michael A.

I was very reluctant to go here as I've had negative experiences at the location in blowing rock. The other location just wasn't clean or very welcoming and seemed mismanaged. The banner elk location really out preformed the other spot. Burgers were hot and fresh. Great service and a good relaxed atmosphere to wind down after a day of activities. Plus my son's high chair wasn't absolutely filthy like the other location, and tables weren't sticky or grimy! Maybe my view is just skewed because of the other town tavern but I thought this was an overall great place to grab a reasonably priced burger and fries.

Boiled peanuts!

We came early for lunch hoping to beat the crowds. It worked. We were seated right away and ordered burgers with fries. I got the Bourbon glazed burger with caramelized onions and jalapeño peppers. It was so juicy and flavorful. My husband got the traditional cheeseburger with cheddar cheese. The fries were coated in something to make them crispier, not my favorite but I still ate them. I prefer fries without added stuff. TV's everywhere so I imagine this is a fun gathering place for game days. The windows are actually garage doors so on warm days they open, and in the middle of winter they close with heaters to make it cozy. They have a full bar and conversation cards at every table to help you connect. What a nice addition to Banner Elk.

We rode the alpine slide and stopped to grab dinner to bring back to our cabin. When I placed the order it said it'd be ready at 7:00. Perfect. Enough time for us to get done with our rides. We picked it up at about 6:50 ish and it was COLD! We all got chicken- 2 chicken tenders and one boneless. I don't care for places that say a time, you pick up early and it's cold. Wonder how long it was sitting there. The boneless wings got reheated and the garlic parm sauce was fabulous! Next time I'd not order take out and just eat there to guarantee hot food.

We love this place!!! The food and service was amazing. Clean restaurant and great ambiance. Plenty of tvs to watch while you eat also! Probably the best chicken wings I've ever had

Day old bun fell apart

Lively atmosphere, but the burgers need a structural upgrade. Stopped in while visiting Banner Elk. The atmosphere at Town Tavern is lively. Our server was attentive and did a good job keeping up with the crowd. However, the food was a bit of a disappointment. My wife and I both ordered burgers, and while they tasted okay, both buns fell completely apart the moment we picked them up. We had to finish them with forks and knives.

Blackened Chicken Caesar Wrap and Philly cheesesteak

Our server was so sweet and helpful. My husband and I split the blackened chicken Caesar wrap & the Philly cheesesteak with peppers and jalapeños, wow! I have had a ton of cheesesteaks in my life & this blew it out of the world! Also get the pasta salad & Mac and cheese bites with homemade ranch incredible !!

The food was great and it is a perfect setting! I think I like this one more than the blowing rock location! It was perfectly designed and has so much space! They have the room with the bar which is more of a sports bar feel, and then a covered patio and fire pit area! The food was great! I had the buffalo chicken wrap and pasta salad! You can't go wrong with either! The strawberry margarita was also out of this world! The staff was friendly and attentive even with the place being busy! It's the new must eat place in banner elk!

Philly Cheesesteak

We grabbed lunch here and overall had a great experience! One thing to note is the majority of chairs are high chairs so we had to wait a longer time for more accessible seating to become available, which was fine since we weren't in a rush. Also, the noise level is fairly high but again that wasn't a big deal for us just something to note if that isn't the atmosphere you're looking for. The food was fantastic and our servers were attentive and kind. We had the Philly cheesesteak, tavern burger, house salad, crab cake sandwich, and hillbilly nachos. The fries were especially good. I only got a photo of the Philly but can confirm all the food was devoured lol I recommend if you're in the area!

Too noisy, a place for a younger generation. Must have areas for crowds that don't need noisy environments.

But I wiggled my vehicle into a tight spot and went in for a burger and a beer. I believe there were about 10 to 12 options available on tap, and I went with what was listed as an Irish stout from somewhere in the Northeast. It wasn't bad, though it seemed more like an imperial stout. My sandwich choice was the Cowboy, with ground elk at its core. It was a good choice too, and the accompanying fried onions and melted cheese complemented the meat well. I ordered the burger medium, but I think I'd go for medium rare if I could go back in time. The medium option wasn't bad, but I think a little less heat and a little more moisture would only make things better. I kept things simple with the side item, going for the fries which were of the thinly sliced McDonald's variety, not bad but nothing remarkable. The server covering my table was pleasant and prompt, though soft spoken so I occasionally had to ask her to repeat herself amidst the music and noise. I wouldn't call any of these selections a bargain, but the prices didn't veer too far from what you'll find in many burger joints. All in all, not an earthshaking experience, but a place I'd be willing to go back to. 3.5 stars.

We found parking on a side street near Blowing Rock Brewing, so decided to enjoy a drink and get some lunch. We were seated quickly, near a heater, which was nice to help us warm up after being on the mountain. A waiter came by with menus to take our order. We asked for some suggestions, but he was a little less than enthused to offer advise. They had a good variety of beers, so my wife and I each got one, and shared them. We got the Pina Colada Kolsch and the Cloud Rise Hazy Ipa. Both were tasty, the Pina Colada Kolsch had a much stronger pineapple flavor than I expected, but in a good way. For food we started with the white cheddar poblano, which I expected to be more of a liquid queso for some reason. It was instead for of a soft, spread, which was really good, and paired well with the chips. And then we split the Turkey Reuben, which I figured would be made with deli meat, instead, it was warm, cooked chunks of turkey, really great flavor, and hit the spot for us. The sides with the sandwiches were a bit lacking, only offering hot chips, and green beans....I've never gotten the whole hot chip craze, but green beans just seamed like too odd of a side option for a sandwich It was a good visit, and a good meal, to get us back on our feet. Overall, a nice space, with bar seating, a back room, a back and front patio, plenty of space to hang out, relax and enjoy their beer. Food and drink were both good and worth a visit if you're in the area.

Their food menu also offered a good selection. My wife and I decided to share an order of loaded fries to start, and then the "white buffalo" pizza. Since everyone loves Italian, we were glad to see that Bullwinkels served a variety of pasta dishes. I ended up ordering the meal to go, so I have no comment on the actual establishment. The order consisted of a bowl of chicken noodle soup, fried mushrooms, spaghetti & meatballs, and garlic parmesan chicken wings. The chicken noodle soup was OK. I made the decision to order it because of the cold weather. The rest of the items were killer though. The friend mushrooms were some of the best I've ever had. So good in fact that I ate them all without any dipping sauce. The garlic parmesan wings were fantastic. I liked the fact that the garlic parmesan consisted of actual minced garlic and not powder. They were smothered all over the wings. It was so good, I took all the extra and mixed it into the spaghetti and meatballs. Speaking of the spaghetti and meatballs, the entree was large enough that it fed both me and my kids twice that evening (early dinner/late dinner). It is my opinion they rely on a captive audience people staying on the resort so they have very low standards. For us definitely a one and done!
