Ain't no hunter never wanna come to THE BLUEBIRD TAVERN, man!
    Ken N.

I think that this may be one of THE only bars east of the Mississippi that the self purportedly good deer hunter, one "Dog Head" from VERMONT, has never been to. He thinks he's a deer hunter. He ain't ever MET a deer hunter, or the multiple deer hunter widoes there, until he goes to THE BLUE BIRD TAVERN...baddest place (where I come from "bad" means good and "good" means bad...) east and north of Kent Island, man! That's before we start talking goose, man! Menu to die for. Beer IS the coldest in Kent County and certain Yankees, even if they are Vermonters who did shoot well at Gettysburg (not too far off...) ain't even ever been there. In short THE BLUE BIRD TAVERN is a classic...let's keep it that way!!

Been dying for an ice cold draft beer without having to take a mortgage out on the house. Really the cost of a Yingling draft wasn't too bad at $2.29 per mug. I was hungry too and started to peruse the placard style menu. The Blue Bird actually has a decent size menu; the only problem is the print is in 10 pitch font and you need reading glasses. This close to the river and bay I was hoping they had a half decent selection of fresh seafood items...not. They did have fresh local blue-crab, and soft-crab. The bar tender told me to forget the soft-crab as they were super tiny. I had a crab cake sandwich....mmmm, that was yummy!! That crab cake was chock full of crab, very little filler if any. It comes with chips, but I wanted fries. I was very happy to see the Blue Bird uses shoe string fries, so quick and easy to cook to a nice crispy texture. The place was clean (men's room too), with a lock on the door in case you need privacy, otherwise the restroom is built for three. The restroom looks like it was redone within the last year. As a 9-ball player, I was thrilled to see they have 3 bar-tables. Next time I up I will bring my cues. The atmosphere was less than casual, but then you could see that the Blue Bird was an iconic establishment here next to Washington College.

How to celebrate the end of a great hunting day in Chestertown, MD.

I ordered a $16 hot dog that came with a surprise--a metal pellet embedded in it. I ended up chipping part of my tooth. When I raised the issue, the manager came out with the person who prepares the food. Their exact words: "We were looking for that piece." They offered me a few complimentary drinks and replaced the hot dog. But when I closed my tab, they charged me for every single drink, including the ones they had offered to make amends. So in the end, the only thing they did was replace the original hot dog--after it chipped my tooth. Disappointed is an understatement. A gesture of goodwill turned into a confusing bill. I hope they take food safety and customer care more seriously moving forward.

Come causal or in your beach attire--will feel comfortable in either. Service was quick and really friendly and welcoming. Plenty of seating options, and I mean you can either sit at the bar, on a chair swing, a round table, or a high chair right, which is all right on the beach! Fun place!

That's a lot per taco! Add a side and it makes sense. The layout of the dining areas offers privacy for small groups. The decor and furniture could use some updates and repairs.

First time trying this restaurant and I was pretty excited too. Came down from DC to have lunch…read morewith my dad and chose this restaurant to try something different. I grabbed to go orders of the crab cake sandwich, side Caesar salad and the kicking crab soup. I also got the chicken wrap with a side Cesar salad for my dad. I didn't open the items up until I got to my location. Upon opening, there were a the few pieces of lettuce with 3 long shavings of cheese across for their version of a Caesar salad. Minimal dressing that tasted like just oil was placed on it. Very disappointing just by looking at it. The crab cake sandwich had no sauce, a thick piece of tomato and another piece of lettuce on the side. The crab cake which had a good amount of crab in it, lacked flavor and tasted like it was cooked in old grease. The kicking Crab soup tasted like water with a lot of black pepper and two pieces of crab meat in it. My dad had nothing good to say about his chicken wrap. For service and as a to go order, the waitresses were really nice. The ambiance was upscale dining experience with prices that should reflect in their food quality. $25 for a crab cake that tasted like it came from a gas station is not what I expected. Nor for it being paired with a few pieces of lettuce for their Caesar dressing. Maybe it was a bad day or, I'm not their typical customer. Either way, it's a first and last for me.
