What an unexpectedly cute spot! I stopped through from AZ to Durango and wanted to try a Native American spot. This was a mix of native and western American food but hit the spot on our road trip. Stopped in by recommendation from a Navajo reservation tribal member I met on the road. Looking for more traditional eats. Was not disappointed on this suggestion. I was definitely the only non-Navajo there which is a good thing. I wanted to see real and eat legit. I was greeted warmly and several Navajo men in cowboy gates nodded a pleasant hello as I walked by. It's simple, clean, super friendly, and basic fiercest. However I forgot gorge on a Navajo taco which was bomb! They also serve a few other traditional Navajo dishes. The potato salad was really good as well. It's a super cool slice of reservation life dining of a beautiful friendly people! After all they've been stepped on they're still beautiful to others. You gotta this place on the reservation in Kayenta AZ. read more

First time here for weekday dinner, I was previously here for breakfast many years ago. Place was packed with locals and some tourists. Lots of menu choices including more Navajo & Mexican food. Hogan style ambience. Spotted a Ribeye Steak Dinner served with salad, baked potato, peas and carrots and dinner roll. All prices were very reasonable I have noticed a big difference in steaks cooked on an open fire and just grilled on a flattop. Think this was the latter. All pretty much your standard food fare. Steak was rare and a bit chewy. Overall a very good dining experience. Think I may go for of the traditional Navajo cuisine on next trip. read more

I had the Navajo Diced Mutton ( tasty Lamb) in tortilla roll and baked potato. It was delicious. I first visited Kayenta in 1984 . I remembered eating Navajo Lamb stew in a small restaurant in a trailer. I was told that that's where the restaurant first started. Interesting story! The restaurant was clean and the staff very friendly. This is a local gem hidden between the well known Fast Food places. You have to try it. read more

While on vacation at Monument Valley I have been in search of Indian fry bread. The Blue Coffee Pot was my last chance for awesome Indian fry bread as we were on our way to Las Vegas. From the outside it appears The Blue Coffee Pot is in need of a fresh paint job. Inside it was nice. We visited during the lunch rush and service was slow. I ordered the steak and shrimp skewers with Indian fry bread. The fry bread was warm and with fresh fried aroma. Layers of light and soft fried dough melted in my mouth. Loved the light flavor. Best Indian fry bread I had on our Monument Valley trip. Now to the skewer. Fried shrimp had a nice snap and flavor. Steak I asked to be cooked medium and was more medium well to well done so parts were tender and some were a bit dry. I enjoyed the flavor of the marinated beef. Loved the flavor of the carrots and yellow squash. Very good tasting dish. Chicken noodle soup was mostly noodles. I didn't care for the noodles which had a starchy flavor and were close to disintegrating. Broth was very mild with just a salty flavor. I would not order this dish again. I wanna visit again for the delicious Indian fry bread. read more

I ordered the chicken fried steak dinner. Baked potato, peas, dinner roll, and a salad. The chicken fried streak and brown gravy was a 9.6/10. Perfectly fried. Crispy yet extremely tender. No knife needed! Thebgravy was rich flavorful and perfect. The potato was also a 9.8/10. Perfectly cooked. I asked for a side of chili beans. I put butter cheese and the chili on the potato and didn't keave a scrap behind. The chili is absolutely delicious and homemade. Thinks of meat and a great chili flavor. The peas were basic and not seasoned 5/10. The roll was soft warm and delicious 8.2/10. Salad was a bit basic as well as the ranch. Would have loved some tomatoes or cucumber for some fresh pop. 7.9/10. All around highly recommended. I heard the breakfast menu is even better! read more

Perfect lunch stop while we charged our non-Tesla EV on our way to Canyon de Chelly. Quick walk from the charging station. Excellent grilled chicken and swiss sammie on sourdough. Hubs enjoyed his tuna with a side of frybread. Very friendly service, good prices, cute place. Soooo much more satisfying than the nearby chain fastfood joints. read more

Stopped in on the way to Monument Valley. We all enjoyed our lunch here where most of the restaurant was full of locals. I had the Navajo Mutton which was excellent and two others had Navajo Cheeseburgers and my daughter had a chef salad which was huge. The boys loved the Navajo fry-bread. The eaters were huge and the coffee was excellent The place was packed but we got seated quickly and the food came out pretty quickly as well. I definitely recommend stopping in. read more

After a rather disappointing dinner at The View where the old Navajo menu has been replaced by what appears to be Denny's, we were referred down to the Blue Coffee Pot for the best local Navajo cuisine in the area and we were not disappointed! While mutton stew only appears on the menu once per week, the delicious soup and diced mutton with fry bread made up for missing out on the stew. Every dish was a winner, although with a few items sold out when we arrived, we had to improvise a little with our own "secret menu" by doing our Navajo taco with refried beans (delicious!) and made our own dessert out of fry bread with honey, powdered sugar and vanilla ice cream. Not so "Navajo" but equally delicious was the fried liver steak with onions and gravy. Service was really amazing considering our one server was handling the entire restaurant for most of our visit. read more

There are only a couple of dining options in town (other than fast food) and this is one. I came for dinner while staying in town. Only locals inside eating, so that means it should be good. Had the Navajo taco. Overall it was pretty good. When I visited, it was seat yourself. About 1/3 full. The food came very fast. Well priced, so I can recommend a visit. read more

Can I give lower than 1 star? Upon reviewing restaurants on Yelp, most were negative except for a nice Mexican Place (closed today). We decided on the Blue Coffee Pot. It's been here for years. Stopped here back in the 90s on the motorcycle. Don't remember much about it. I should have though. The parking lot was full. Good sign. Walking in a sign says 'seat yourself'. Place is packed and we wait like vultures on the next table to vacate. Sit down and wait. Its owned and run by local Navajo. That's good. Seems 80% locals are eating here. Another good sign. Finally one of only 2 waitresses covering maybe 20 tables drops off plastic menus and asks for our drink order. I ask for a Coke. Fine. About 5 minutes later she brings Joann her water but no Coke. "We're out of Coke". Okay a root beer. 10 minutes later she stops by and says "Oh right a root beer". Even later she asks for our order. Now being tourists. And being in the Navajo Nation we thought we would again like to try the Navajo Taco. It's their culture, their cuisine, they should want to present it as such. Not so fast. After a long wait we get our meals of Navajo Tacos. We did note that what seemed to be locals all eating other entries so that should have been a hint. I have never had such a plain utterly tasteless meal in my life. I ordered a beef taco. Well, there might have been some (?) ground beef sprinkled in there. Along with lettuce, the smallest diced tomatoes, in amount equal to the beef, chopped onion (that was a special note that the waitress asked if we wanted) and canned hole baked beans. Very bland tasteless baked beans. All on top of a so called Navajo fried bread which also was completely lacking in any flavor. Tasteless. I went to a vacated table to grab the Tabasco sauce which I then covered this mess with to provide some taste. We only ate the topping/filler of lettuce and such leaving the fry bread. Paid our bill to another waitress also covering as cashier. Oh, there was 1 bus guy working all the tables. I'm guessing either those 80% have no tastebuds or we just ordered like tourists and they treated us as such. Nice way to promote one's culture. I did warn another couple of tourists who reversed course and left. Right down the street is a McDonalds which would have been high cuisine next to this place. It's a new low. read more

So we came to visit family and they said let's go eat, the recommendation was the blue coffee pot. Local place. Staff was not overly friendly and we did wait a bit for service, but I expect that out here on the reservation. Place was not overly clean but it was decent. Restroom was kept up with is a great plus. French dip was okay. It needed to be shaved thinner as it was just a roast with joe real taste. Side of fries were okay. Salad is great, you get all the dressing you want and it was kept fresh. Navajo burger was okay. Needed something that I just don't know of. Again, if you are here in town check it out. We wanted to support local business but it was such disappointing experience. We ordered steak and shrimp kabob to-go, which had to include soup and was promised to be ready in 15 minutes. Instead it took 35 minutes and a missing soup. The atmosphere was a bit chaotic with a line of people waiting to pick up their orders. If you still want to place an order there, check twice that it includes correct meals and all the food. read more

While staying at the monument valley inn across the street, we decided to try here for breakfast. The pancakes were HUGE. I only finished half of one, and it came with 2. The prices were reasonable, especially given the area where food seems to cost more. I added bacon and hashbrowns as a side. They didn't have milk but had juices. Everything was good- it wasn't amazing, but it was filling and hit the spot for breakfast. Service was prompt. read more
