Kayenta is not know as a destination for foodies. Unless one is an aficionado of fast food. While staying at a different hotel, which we selected because it had a restaurant, we discovered said restaurant was closed. We learned that Reuben Heflin is attached to the Hampton Inn. We walked down there, expecting, well, a Hampton Inn with a restaurant. To our surprise, the R. Heflin had a decent menu, and really good food. Both of our meals were well prepared and tasty. Portions are reasonable and service was quite good. It's important to know Kayenta is in the Navajo Reservation, and, as such, doesn't serve alcohol. Don't be "that guy" and complain about it to your server (as we observed twice). We'll stay at Hampton Inn next time we come through, in large part because of this restaurant.

What a fantastic spot! We visited just once and were beyond impressed with the food, atmosphere, and service. There was only one server managing the entire restaurant, and she did an incredible job keeping everything running smoothly -- truly impressive! The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered a lot of dishes, and every single one was packed with flavor. Hands down, this is the best restaurant with amazing food and service near Monument Valley. If you're traveling through the area, this place is an absolute must-visit!

If you find yourself in Kayenta, dining options are limited. However, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the meal served up Reuben Heflin restaurant located in the Hampton Inn. The Navajo taco is particularly good. Also had the green chili stew, satisfying with chunks of pork, peppers, and potatoes accompanied by frybread (I was hoping for some nice heat from the green chilis in the stew, but it had no heat). The staff is pleasant, as is the ambiance. Overall, it was a good dining experience.

You wouldn't know it from the outside, but located inside the Hampton Inn in Kayenta, the Reuben Heflin restaurant is a wonderful surprise since most Hamptons don't have a full service restaurant, let alone one that has such good food and warm service. The menu has something for everyone of any size appetite and is a very nice alternative to all the fast food in the area. Their Navajo specialties are the best of what we've tried from other places in and around Monument Valley. I particularly like the Green Chili Stew... a substantial portion of rich, flavorful stew garnished with a totally edible and delicious large Poblano chile and just made Fry Bread. They also make terrific pizzas on a bed of Fry Bread... very unique. Of course their Navajo Taco shouldn't be missed either. On our last visit we tried a couple of their new Shrimp items... the Navajo Butter Garlic Shrimp Pizza was amazing and the Shrimp Caesar was really good, too. Dessert, if you have room, is good too... try the House Specialty... Fry Bread topped with warm Cinnamon Apples and ice cream. Yum! The serving staff is really great here. Yes, they might get a little behind sometimes... lots of people come in from the area all at once especially after sunset in Monument Valley, but they're so gracious and friendly and you can see they're working as quickly as they can to accommodate everyone. You can chill out for a bit with beer or glass of wine (non-alcohol on the reservation) while you wait for your table if you ask for it when you check in at the host stand. They have a nice patio with a fireplace (or a living room type setting inside also with a fireplace ) where you can kick back and relax.

fine. nothing special. had the chicken sandwich. was fine. nothing special. mostly just leaving a review to post updated menu photos. ambiance is nice. was a little short staffed. basically only 2 people waiting tables, busing, and hosting. can't blame them. either poor management or someone called out. either way- leave your staff a good tip. they work hard.

Ruben Heflin restaurant is located inside the Hampton Inn in Kayenta Arizona on the road to monument valley. As the menu states "try the rest then go for the best" And we're talking Navajo tacos probably the best that I ever eaten in my travels at the southwest fry bread was puffy fresh and flavorful not oily at all and the delicious beef and beans smothered the bread then covered with the freshest of ingredients iceberg lettuce cheddar cheese olives and mild green chilies with avocado guacamole on the side along with sour cream and Home made mild salsa Taylor my server was very polite and quickly seated me masks are required in the Ruben Heflin restaurant located in the Hampton Inn fyi As I went over the menu with Taylor which is loaded with Navajo recipes as you can see in the menu photographs I went back to my original reason why I stopped here after reading the reviews and order the Navajo taco it was absolutely huge overfilling a large plate I was only able to finish half of it but it did not go to waste as I deconstructed it and packed it away in to go boxes for tomorrow before my hike I want to thank Taylor and the cooks David and Herschel for the excellent service and the absolute delicious food served hot and fresh with a smile if you're in this area or even close by stop in if you want to have the best Navajo taco anywhere the history is also interesting as Ruben Meyer Heflin With one of his daughters Nina still coding the Hampton Inn and she created the restaurant in honor of her father check it out and enjoy the Navajo nation

This restaurant is located inside the Hampton Inn. It opens at 5:00 PM. The ambiance was cozy; the staff was friendly and helpful. The menu was varied and diverse. The food was delicious and the prices were similar to an Applebee's or Chili's. This is the nicest restaurant in the area; there's not much else in town. I would recommend and return again.

We had been hiking all day and driving here for the night. The town is on the reservation and this area didn't have much besides a couple fast food spots. We really didn't want fast food, so we saw only one restaurant in town open until 9 and were headed there. We were worried we wouldn't be able to check into our hotel so late though and we were going to pass it on the way to this other restaurant we found online. When we went inside to check in, we saw they had a restaurant and it looked good! I asked if we could eat there or if they were closed and he said yes if we went right away since they'd be closing in about 45 min. We just decided to stay there and eat and it was really nice! The hotel was really a Motel but surprisingly pretty nice, with this nice restaurant too! We were just glad to not have to eat fast food. They had a real menu, with reasonable prices and very large portions! We really could've shared a meal. I was only disappointed that they were out of their bread and fajitas which were their specialties. But, I got the quesadilla and it was one of the best veggie quesadillas I have ever had! Only thing to note, is that gratuity was automatically included. (We were a table of 4) so we didn't realize it and ended up tipping on top of that way extra! The service was normal but nothing crazy, so we were a little upset we basically paid for an entire extra meal without realizing it but that's our bad. We paid in cash because they were only accepting cash at that time and so I didn't really put together the "added gratuity" until we were splitting the bill after amongst ourselves, because I didn't write in a tip and sign since it was cash and not card. I just looked at the total. Sooo just be aware that your tip will already be added to your bill :) Definitely loved the food and loved that there was a no fast food option in the area and would recommend stopping here and even staying at the motel!

Also came with pico and sour cream on a huge piece of Indian fry bread. Delicious and way too much for one person. I addition to the fry bread we added the salad and sweet potato fries. Total for two entrees, two drinks, and one additional side was just north of $50 for two people. Been jonesing hard since missing out on a taco truck at Four Corners back in 2015. Living on the east coast, I don't have a lot of Navajo Taco options. My husband and son? Had never had a Navajo Taco. This was the best introduction for them! The service here was terrific. The young man who seated and served us was great! Personable, funny, cool tats, really made the meal shine. The tacos were spectacular, perfect, with the fry bread done just right. The sweet potato fries were also spot-on, as was the coffee. The decor was rustic, fun, with old tools, a collection of beer cans and bottles, and comfy seating. I do have one regret, though. The cook came out to chat, and he told us about his band playing at a local venue, invited us to come hang. Sadly, we were on our way out of town. Can't remember the name of his band so I can share with friends who live in that area and would love to go see them play. I can almost remember it--Thunder in the Valley? Thunder on the Mountain? There were posters around the area, wish I'd taken a pic. Anyway, the restaurant is right next to the inn, which was clean, spacious, and didn't have a lick of internet. Which was kind of cool, actually. The river is right there, and, overall, this was a really terrific meal and I wish I could let the folks who made it that way know.
