This restaurant is NOT closed. We ate there May 18th, 2023. Been a while--decades--since I've had a Navajo Taco. Been jonesing hard since missing out on a taco truck at Four Corners back in 2015. Living on the east coast, I don't have a lot of Navajo Taco options. My husband and son? Had never had a Navajo Taco. This was the best introduction for them! The service here was terrific. The young man who seated and served us was great! Personable, funny, cool tats, really made the meal shine. The tacos were spectacular, perfect, with the fry bread done just right. The sweet potato fries were also spot-on, as was the coffee. The decor was rustic, fun, with old tools, a collection of beer cans and bottles, and comfy seating. I do have one regret, though. The cook came out to chat, and he told us about his band playing at a local venue, invited us to come hang. Sadly, we were on our way out of town. Can't remember the name of his band so I can share with friends who live in that area and would love to go see them play. I can almost remember it--Thunder in the Valley? Thunder on the Mountain? There were posters around the area, wish I'd taken a pic. Anyway, the restaurant is right next to the inn, which was clean, spacious, and didn't have a lick of internet. Seems this place was different then anticipated. The signs posted on the windows that said "not a bar" and "no booze" would reflect that their policy may have changed from the web sites i saw. Very disappointed with this place. My boyfriend and I came for breakfast, and it was a total letdown. The food arrived cold, and everything on my plate tasted old and stale -- completely inedible. The coffee was also cold, and to make things worse, our server never checked in with us, didn't offer a refill, and didn't even ask why I barely touched my food. I do not leave Yelp reviews often, but after my experience here, I feel obligated to say something. We stopped at Olde Bridge Grill as tourists passing through and honestly, I'd recommend going literally ANYWHERE else. We had an older woman as our server who took the order for half of our table and just left. After trying to get her attention to finish taking our orders, she proceeded to yell curses at us and tell us she had "a lot of shit" on her mind. Meanwhile, it's closing time at on a Monday night and there was only two other tables. I feel sad because I strongly believe she might've been under some sort of influence, but that's still not how you talk to customers or anyone for that matter. There are not many options when you come to Mexican Hat - really three eateries and 7-11. We picked this rustic dining room by the river, conveniently located in the parking lot of our motel. The restaurant is pretty casual and old. Expect old burgundy banquettes and cleanish carpet with cloudy windows looking out over the river. The food is decent and prepared fresh, one dish at a time...literally. Our plates came out in sequence, with the last one coming after the first plate was done. They have burgers and sandwiches as well as chilis and stew. The food is basically diner food. They do have amazing onion rings. The navajo taco was a bit disappointing - most bread and no chili. The cowboy sandwich is also a lot of bread - plenty of meat, just too much bread. DH enjoyed his stew and the LO enjoyed her ham and cheese sandwich. You don't come to Mexican Hat looking for a culinary delight. The San Juan Dining Room is a decent choice if you are in the area to see the beautiful sights. read more

Dying for some coffee out in this neck of the woods was challenging. We stumbled upon this teeny spot. All we came in for were coffees. We left with a whole itinerary!! The sweet local who owns the spot chatted us up and asked where we were off to. We told him a few spots we wanted to see and he gave us a map and pointed out less known areas to view. He also explained the fact that you can go fly fishing, salmon fishing (you read that right), and where to get a snack at a Bed and Breakfast during our route. Sweetest guy ever. A little cafe hidden in the bend of the road on the way to Monument Valley. It's really easy to pass, so be ready to turn into a small parking lot. It's a seat yourself establishment that feels like it's family run. We came in toward the end of the rush, but they were very crowded and food was taking a long time for some tables to arrive. For example, the table next to us 2 people got their food and finished before the other 2 people at their table even got their food. There is not much organization to this place. We had 3 different servers come to our table asking for our drink order. None of them knew the one before came to serve us. The food came out very quickly. The service in terms of refills is pretty slow, so drink your drinks slowly. The servers are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The breakfast skillet was good. It had potatoes, eggs, cheese, and onions. It needed some flavor so we added salt and pepper. It came with toast. We asked for an English muffin but it appeared with white instead. We didn't say anything. We also had the fry bread and the sweet roll. Neither of them tasted fresh. The fry bread needed some sugar or something to make it actually sweet. The sweet roll is a cinnamon bun that came straight from a box. They both came out hot which was nice, but hot doesn't mean fresh. This place does have a funky smell that I was having a hard time with. As the meal went on, I realized it's the cleaning supplies that are overwhelming the place. read more

Our server Glen was amazing and welcoming loved the hospitality and Ryan the Cook not only rocked the Whiskey a Go Go on the Sunset Strip he rocked the meal for us. Beef stew better than advertised, french fries fresh and homemade the sandwiches delicious and the chicken and cheese quesadilla was my daughter's favorite. I've seen people here complain about the salad or the quality of the ingredients. Please realize that this place is in the middle of a vast land that is far from a well stocked supermarket. Incrediable service! We came here for lunch after a long day of driving across the mid west from San Francisco. We were tired and hungry, and ordered the Navajo Tacos. They were awesome - huge piece of freshly made fry bread, chili, lettuce, cheese and salsa on the side. Very filling. Now what impressed me and won over the coveted 5 star review: I casually mentioned to the owner - Joey we were going on a sunset tour of the monuments and asked what time they closed. I found out that they close at 9pm, sometimes 10pm, and that there was nothing else in town open late. I was in a pickle; our tour didn't get out to 9:30 and we wouldn't be back until 10:30pm. So the owner gave me his cell number and told me to call him and that he would keep the restaurant and kitchen open late for us and personally cook us dinner if need be. Now that's service! For dinner we requested a special not on the menu item: Chicken Quesadilla made with Fry Bread. Oh man was it ever tasty!!! Now I want to point out to people no the food isn't the quality of the stuff you would get in San Francisco, New York, or another big city. It is however really good considering where you are. The food here was good. Which was great, because there aren't too many more choices in Mexican Hat. We were staying at the San Juan Inn, so we walked over for dinner. I had my eye on the burrito topped with green chili, so I had that. Plenty of refried beans in it, but it was good. No complaints. My son had a BLT and fries, which he enjoyed, and my wife had a cheeseburger, which was kind of ordinary, but still good. I was glad that they served Polygamy Porter. Nicely decorated place by the San Juan river in Mexican Hat. The sales person of the trading post recommend us this place. He even recommended margarita. I had stew with fried bread with a glass of margarita. Margarita came in a cactus shaped glass. I thought that was funny. Fried bread was too greasy. My sister had something with beans. This came highly recommended in one of our guide books so we decided to pit stop here on our trip from Durango to Page. Cute place, very simple, good service. I had a very decent glass of house red for $5 and ordered the beef stew with fry bread as my entree (listed under Navajo specials). The food was just ok. It was comforting and the stew flavor was good, but the beef, especially the larger chunks, were overly chewy and bland that I mostly ate around the beef. read more

Things stared out ok: a booth by the window, and a waiter came over quickly to give menus and take our order. Nothing went right after that. Not one, but TWO LARGE HAIRS were in my burrito. I even was going to ignore the first because I was starving, but couldn't handle a second. Then, when they cleared our plates, we expected to be asked about dessert. No one came for 30 minutes. I timed it. We had to flag someone down and asked for cheesecake and a milkshake (I was still hungry after not finishing my burrito). We received a sliver of cheesecake 5 minutes later and no milkshake. Then we waited for another ten minutes before having to wave down a server again to give up and ask for the check. Then she said "oh, go pay at the front so you're not waiting forever." Too late for that. After new management the menu became very simple and basic. A lot of food I consider local favorites were deleted off the menu. New waiter a male individual doesn't greet customers and has no customer service skills. My cheeseburger came out undercooked and eating into it half way noticed it was bleeding. I wish I could give the Olde Bridge Grill a more positive review, but the food here doesn't warrant it. Every dish is simply flavorless. This place gets two stars due to the saving graces of the friendly, hard-working staff and the quaint, scenic locale. My husband and I ate here on two separate nights while staying in Mexican Hat. We weren't expecting anything mind-blowing and figured it would be standard diner food. On our first visit, we ordered a cheese quesadilla, beef stew with fry bread, and a Navajo taco. The stew was a bland, watery soup with a few grey chunks of meat, the fry bread was flavorless, and the Navajo taco also tasteless. The quesadilla was the best item, but that's not saying much. In fact, all of the dishes lacked any flavor. It was as if the person preparing the food didn't add any salt or use any salted butter when cooking. Two nights later we begrudgingly returned, as the two other restaurants in town, the Swinging Steak and Hat Rock Cafe, were closed for the holidays, and the same for the six restaurants in Bluff, 30 minutes north. The second time, we ordered items we felt could be safe bets: another cheese quesadilla, since it was the best item from our previous meal; a grilled cheese sandwich, because that's pretty hard to mess up; a bowl of chili, as one can open a can of Dennison's and at least it'd taste okay; and dessert fry bread. But as before, the food lacked any flavor. The quesadilla and grilled cheese at least tasted like cheddar, but they were the most mediocre grilled cheese and quesadilla we've ever had. The bowl of chili was disappointingly not a can of Dennison's, and instead was a flavorless bean soup that lacked salt. The dessert fry bread wasn't any different than the savory fry bread that came with the stew or Navajo taco. It was just accompanied with two packs of low-grade honey. We politely spread the food around on the plate and made infinitely better PB&J sandwiches when we got back to our bed and breakfast that night. If you're in Mexican Hat during the holidays, this is literally the only game in town. Either stick to the quesadilla, or bring PB&J fixins. read more

I stopped here with my mom during a road trip east after passing through Monument Valley. We ate here because we wanted to stay at the Inn the restaurant is located near. Let's just say we decided to get food elsewhere for breakfast the day after our dinner. We both ordered a steak and we're unhappy with it. Mine might as well have been boiled for all I could tell. There was no sear on the meat and it was cooked the same all the way through. The salad was floating in a puddle of water. I gave an extra star for the service. They are quick and very nice. However their food doesn't stand up to their service. If you are passing through, keep going. If you are staying at the inn, think about eating before hand. read more

We just had a cozy, relaxing and delicious dinner at Olde Bridge Grill. This place is just at the cross point of the bridge toward Mexican Hat, overlooking the river. My husband and I stopped in last night and had two beers, Navajo vegetable beef stew, fry bread, and a chef salad for some greens. The stew was great! I'm Navajo and the stew tasted just like my mom's. The fry bread was good too, and was served with some honey packets - yum. Chef salad had fresh tomatoes and good - pretty straightforward. We ate at the Old Bridge Grill for dinner and breakfast the following morning when we stayed at the San Juan Inn & Trading Post, which is on the same property. We enjoyed both meals and emerged with full and happy tummies. Please understand that this place is in the middle of the desert. To coin an overused phrase, it is what it is. It's basic food, and it isn't fancy. If you want fancy, stay in the big city. Here, the burgers are great and the beer is cold. The salads are fresh and the fries are yummy. The breakfasts are hearty. What really impressed us was the service. Our visit coincided with that of a busload of French tourists. The place--not small--was packed. The waitstaff and management alike made a huge effort to attend to all of the diners' needs, and we were very impressed with their effort. As I mentioned to VVSP the morning we had breakfast there, I'll bet there wasn't another eatery anyplace else where you'd hear English, Italian, French, Swedish, Spanish and Navajo spoken in the same room at the same time. read more

Absolutely one of our favourite places on our road trip !! We stopped by for a late lunch and just loved the place. Staffs were nice and helpful. A pleasant place with nice river view. The main dishes we ordered ( chili con carne & hamburgers ) didn´t impress us. But the hot wings were really nice. And most of all.....their homemade pies. We ordered both apple and cherry pies with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. They were just delicious. The best we ever had. Stopped in here as we were passing through Mexican Hat shortly after lunchtime. The place has cool historic look and feel to it from the outside and the inside is no different. We were the only patrons in the place at the time and the owner gave us his undivided attention and answered many questions for us. He is a genuinely great guy. We took a few pictures of the old beer bottles and other decor inside and waited for our authentic Navajo food to arrive. Our food arrived before we could even manage to get 1 game of pool in - which costs a mere 50 cents. We ordered the Navajo Taco and the Navajo Cowboy Beef Sandwich. The Navajo taco was HUGE and loaded with fresh, high quality toppings. The flavor of the fry bread was top notch. The overall flavor was maybe a touch bland, but the addition of a small amount of hot sauce fixed that right away. I would rate the Navajo Taco as a 4.5. The second item was the Navajo Cowboy Beef sandwich which is basically a roast beef sandwich on Frybread. The roast beef was a touch on the dry side, but when added to the moisture of the Frybread, it was left with a great texture and flavor. The sandwich had much more flavor than the taco and it too was loaded with both meat and fresh vegetable toppings. The sandwich rates as 5 star in my book. We were traveling through during the offseason and this was the only place to eat that was open in Mexican Hat. I would certainly stop by again and enjoy the great food. If you want true, authentic Navajo food, then this is the place to stop. This cute little riverside spot was the perfect place to grab lunch between Page, AZ and Torrey, UT. (more restaurants in Kayenta but we weren't ready to eat yet when we drove through) We found the service friendly and prompt. We stopped here hoping for navajo fry bread and were not disappointed. I hate to use a cliche like "hidden gem" but I feel that perfectly sums up what Olde Bridge Grill is. This restaurant is tucked away, so much so that my wife and I initially drove passed it and had to turn around. We loved the roadhouse vibe. We sat at a table with a window overlooking the water. My wife got the Navajo Taco and I got a burger. We both really enjoyed our food. Very tasty. The portions seemed large too (which I enjoyed on a long day of traveling). The staff were nice and attentive. Overall, we really liked our pit stop at Olde Bridge Grille and would definitely recommend it to any other passers-through. read more
