My house was built in 1973, so it's almost as old as I am! We've lived here for 23 years and haven't done any upgrades to the electrical system. So we shouldn't have been completely shocked when our electric went out on a Sunday morning in April 2021 & the main breaker to the house smelled like an electrical fire. Still, we were surprised, of course. Sorry, Yelp, my first thought was to check our neighborhood's Facebook group for recommendations. After two calls & no live person, I turned to Yelp, looking for electricians "open now". Sunrise had recently updated their Yelp listing with details and had a few good reviews, so I called them. Shelley answered the phone & was very helpful in assuring us that someone could come out that day. She took our information, and we did have to provide payment of $119 for the emergency service call. Communication was great afterward, which included both a text and phone call a couple hours later when our service tech was en route. Kevin actually arrived a bit earlier than the estimated arrival time and seemed incredibly knowledgeable. After looking at our main breaker box, he confirmed that it needed to be replaced, and that he would be able to replace it that day. He also advised that we would need a surge protector for the whole house, along with inspections & permits which he would be able to do as well for the quoted price. Many hours later, we had power again, with a new main breaker box. And I'm glad to have a house-wide surge protector. This was not a cheap repair/upgrade, and we were obviously unable to get other quotes or compare prices on a Sunday, but we're happy with the work done. read more

Warning! Avoid using Blue Collar. They charged me $245 just to come out and $380 for the final bill. I blew a fuse and the kid they sent out was not able to resolve my problem and offered to connect two wires to get everything working except my garbage disposal. I called their office several weeks ago and spoke with Mark, Customer Service Manager. I told him that I felt overcharged as I now need to call another electrician to finish the job. He said he was sure the owner, Gary, would make things right. Mark was going to call me back after speaking with the owner. He never called back and they are both dodging my calls now. read more

I had to have a different electrician come redo their work a year later. He sad the plugs looked as if they were done by a handyman, and the fuse box had loose wires. This is after they came back three times to get everything straight after turning off my solar panels and causing my breakers to flip. The outlet they installed failed a year later. PLEASE READ and save yourself your time and money. It's a thorough recap of my experience and what I discovered with this company. I work with many contractors and know enough about electricity to provide an educated review. My experience started off well. I needed two jobs looked at and was quoted $79 by the girl over the phone to come out and look at each job. If they could fix it right then and if I approved of the price, they would. If not, I would be given an estimate. Worst case, if I didn't care for the company or was not comfortable with the quote, I would only be out $79 for both jobs. Within a minute of the technician showing up, I was told, he would "diagnose" the problem and give me an estimate. If I approved the work, the fee would go towards the job, if not, I would just "owe $245 for today". I expressed my concern that I was quoted $79 and the tech chuckled and said "We can't do anything for $79" He then offered to only charge "minor diagnoses fee" of $135 instead of the normal $245. He was at the first job for maybe 30min and a chunk of that time was writing the estimate. This was for an exterior RV outlet that kept tripping. It was just outside the garage and there was easy access to the panel and he could quickly tell it didn't have enough power for the load. Job 2 - Replace light fixture that had stopped working. He looked at the light and called me to tell me the wrong wire was used in the wall and would need to all be replaced. He also said the outlets were not working. It was a GFI, so I asked if he had pressed the reset. He said he was not going to touch anything until I agreed to the diagnostic fee. He "fixed" my outlets by pressing the reset button. And he explained all the work that would be needed to fix the light, to the tune of $900-1500. When I asked questions, the technician was reluctant to answer. Basic questions that by diagnostic standards, should be answered. I was told he would not check something if he would not be doing the job (even though it was in the scope of the estimate, and I later discovered was not answered because it would have triggered me to question the scope of work and price) and then with the light just hanging, I asked him to just take the light down mark the hot wire with a piece of electrical tape (not wires were white). He initially said he wasn't comfortable doing that because he knew what I was thinking, but that he would go ahead and mark it. I knew at that point the tech had determined there was power to the light, but had withheld that info. I went out to look at the job after the fact and within a minute, determined on my own there was normal electricity flow and a complete circuit, and within 15 minutes I had installed the new light and everything was working just fine. The technician had not marked the hot wire. While I understand Blue Collar, would have done the job differently and could have declined to do the work the way I wanted it done, information was deliberately withheld and I was misled for the sake of making a sale. I should have been given an opportunity to make an informed decision myself and not led to believe it was a bigger issue than it was. After my experience, I called to speak with owner about my concerns and, while the conversation was cordial, he argued that they had done nothing wrong and that he sometimes gets call like mine, but more often not. He also told me I could have just sent the technician away and paid him nothing and that people do that and refuse to even pay the trip charge. "So I should act dishonestly because you do. I agreed to pay the $79, but there was never any intention of just charging $79" This is a known issue and it's not just me. As a "professional", the jobs were very easy to determine the issue and what needed to be done to correct the problems - no "diagnostic" necessary. If he could not determine the issues upfront and needed to delve more into figuring it out, understandably, I would expect an additional diagnostic fee for his time. This was not the case. The technician knew coming out, the price was going to be more than just the $79. This was a clear bait n switch. Furthermore, the owner said he would check into my initial call to determine if I was misinformed or misled. I have not heard back and it has been over a month. This company clearly lacks integrity and does not appear to care about the customer. My take aways 1. They may do good work, but I don't trust them to be honest with the scope or to disclose everything. 2. If you pay for a diagnostic they will withhold even basic information with the excuse that you may hire someone else or try to do it yourself 3. For a master bathroom light and an RV outlet repair, I was quoted $2000 on the low end and $3000 on the high end. read more

Horrible experience. Added their lic. # to my permit thinking I would be getting an est. from them. Was upfront with the lady taking my call. The permit was approved and then I got a nasty call from 'james' stating they never gave me an est and i was being fraudulent. Gets worse, then he called the permit office and slowed down my permit and said he was going to do more damage and call my mobile home park. All I was looking to do was get a price and shop if needed. I'm new to this and if I did something wrong then I accept that, but he was nasty. Don't do business with them and if you do, good luck. I asked them to give me a bid on replacing a weatherproof outlet cover, fix a cooktop pigtail connection and put a gfi down from the panel and outside about 6-7 feet max and they wanted to charge me $1024 and the guy said they use "by the book pricing". So I paid the $79.99 service fee for the estimate and then I said that is way too expensive and he left. I won't be using them in the future. read more

I am graciously giving 1 star for the expertise of our electrician, Jayson. He was efficient, polite and professional. Our request to replace a bathroom exhaust fan was a simple and quick task for Jayson. On the other hand we feel the company is price gouging. We wanted the job done so we painfully paid $548 for a 1 hour task AND WE supplied the parts. This company is a complete an utter ripoff. Below are the warning signs: 1.) They charge you for an estimate. This is a ridiculous practice. They show up, give you a huge estimate, you decline it and they make money. It's a scam. 2.) When they whip out the electronic tablet, run for your life. You are about to get ripped off. 3.) Never go with one of these huge companies that advertise everywhere. You are paying for all that advertising. So like many of my fellow Pinellas county residents I have some work that needs to be done after the hurricane came through. In looking for electricians I came across the number for sunrise electric, and I called them. They asked for a bunch of information, I do realize that they would need to know my name address and phone number before they would come here, but beyond that they wanted $59 to just come, didn't ask me what the work was that needed to be done, I'm fairly sure that the young lady answering the phone would be clueless as to whatever the work they do is anyway because she can only stick to a script. I understand if a company may be very busy because it is post hurricane, but that's when you make your appointment for further on down the line, to hit someone up for money just to go tell them what you would charge to fix hurricane damage is reprehensible. I'm fairly new calling contractors, but was told I needed to get more than one estimate, so that's what I was attempting to do. The person that answered the phone at sunrise electric did not make it comfortable, did not seem reassuring, did not even necessarily come off as very competent, if she wasn't feeling in a form that her company uses she was unable to move forward. This is definitely not the company I will ever call in the future! And for this job, that I fully expect to spend hundreds of dollars on, is definitely not going to them. read more

We had an appointment and we're given a 3 hour window. I called 3 times and was finally told close to the end of the window it would be out of the window. The technician arrived 2 hours later. He was very nice but the company had absolutely no apology. I did not understand their flat rate too. I paid $245 and was told unless wiring needed change this would cover everything. 30 min later I was told it was temporarily fixed and I was given estimates of $4400 and $1400 for further more permanent repair. The technician took off the additional $54 charge which I am grateful for but the wait of 5 hours and a flat charge of $245 for a 30 minute temporary fix was extremely unfair. I will never use them again and would not recommend them ever. read more

I am not in the practice of leaving poor reviews, especially post-hurricane when so many people are still without electricity and have so much damage to deal with, but I did need to leave a review for potential consumers. I made an appointment for electrical work to be done pre-knowledge of hurricane. I was told about the $59. fee to come out which would be deducted if I agreed to have their estimated work done. I made an appointment. Then we got Milton and I completely understood that my electrical work request was not a priority and agreed to re-schedule for the following week. The appointment was supposed to be today. I received a text message informing me my technician would be at my home anywhere between 2 and 5pm. Then at 10:00 am, I received a call and voicemail confirming my appointment. I called back and got another Customer Service rep, and confirmed my appointment. That same rep called me back and stated they were actually calling to reschedule due to the amount of customers still without power. I told her that I understood but I had already been rescheduled once and I took time off of work today to be available. She told me to hang on and she would be right back. Then I was disconnected. I waited for a call back and when it was clear that wasn't going to happen, I called back. I was then told that they indeed needed to reschedule me because they needed to take care of those without electricity from the hurricane. Again, I am very fortunate to have power at the present time, so I understand not being a priority, but some advance notice (even a call yesterday) would have gone a long way and I wouldn't have to use my PTO for an appointment that was going to be canceled. I will be going elsewhere for my electrical needs and hope this helps improve their customer service communication for the future. read more

So I'm buying a house and the seller wants to give me credit for some minor electrical work that needs to be done which was two reverse polarity outlets and to cap off one exposed wire that is in plain site in the garage. I had a 4 point report with pics and told them I just need an approximate quote on these two issues as you see them in the pics and I understand if something else comes up while doing the work that could be extra. I did this because I need to get a credit from the seller. They refused to give me a quote with out going to the house. For those unaware of simple electrical work like this a reverse polarity is jus pulling out the outlet and reversing the power and neutral wires after plugging in the testing device and then checking that power is not running to the outlet after breaker is shut off. Doesn't matter if you live in a million dollar home or a mobile home. The price would be the same. Next to cap off a wire it takes less than 5 minutes from start to finish. From 4 point pics you could choose different approaches, but about 5 to 15 minutes to do and $1 to $30 in material depending on how you handle it. These guys refused to even give a soft quote. That means they are planning to rip you off. They just want to either pay them to tell you that or they want to come out and see how stupid you are before quoting you. Don't shop here.
