Full disclosure. I did Not take a flight. I stopped by to ask about tours at the Princeville airport. As a retired airline pilot, I wanted to ask one of the pilots not flying a few questions. The woman at the front desk went back talk to the pilot and came back and said he was busy on the phone. I then asked if I could see a Helicopter and she said yes. I walked past the pilot in the back room. On my way to the Helicopter I passed him by and he was scrolling on his cell phone.... Unrelated to aviation. This really concerned me as most pilots are so into their job, they would love to talk to anyone even thinking of going up with them. In 35 years as an airline pilot, I never turned down the opportunity to talk to someone in the cockpit about flying or my job. I would never fly with someone that had such a disinterest in potential passengers and/or flying. Ended up going with another company. read more

Mark and I love Blue Hawaiian! This is our second time using them for a helicopter tour. They came highly recommended by friends that live in Maui. Blue Hawaiian operates on multiple islands and the staff is consistently friendly, efficient and dedicated to the safety of their customers. We carefully checked weather before arriving in Kauai to ensure the best opportunity for a successful tour not impacted by the weather. We booked online directly with their website and purchased the additional insurance which I highly recommend. We immediately received both emails and text confirmation of our booking. As the day approached we received additional texts and emails confirming that the tour would proceed. Check in is one hour prior to the departure and is mandatory for safety training and rules. The staff truly cares about passenger safety and the comprehensive nature of the training is excellent. The lobby is clean and spacious with clean bathrooms and filtered chilled water dispenser. Videos are shown on the wall of each trip and explain what to expect. Seating is assigned based on weight and to balance the helicopter. Mark was seated in the back middle seat and I received the back window seat. IMO all the seats will provide amazing views. Robert was our pilot and he is awesome! He struck the perfect balance of information and quiet time. He also prepped us for each upcoming photo opportunity as they approached. Weather is out of their control however our specific time slot had PERFECT weather and our 45 minute tour was AMAZING!! We each took 2 Dramamine pills plus drank ginger tea prior to departure and this effectively mitigates any motion sickness. Follow this advice in order to enjoy the experience. Blue Hawaiian runs a top notch operation and we highly recommend their service!!! read more

We talked to and felt scammed by Blue Hawaiian I will admit I'm a big guy - and they want to charge a 50% fee for big guy. Weight balancing they said Funny thing is my wife (low weight) and son (less than 100lbs) were going to go with me. Tell me oh gods of physics why would we not be able to manage those 3 weights. I'd give three stars, but I don't want to throw off their ratings because, overall, it seems like a great company, our pilot Greg was a lot of fun and what I did see was amazing. I didn't have the same experience as other reviewers. It's only worth the full ticket price if you're by a window. Otherwise, your views are obstructed and, if a stranger is in front of your window, it's not comfortable to reach over them. I missed out on waterfalls and didn't get a full view of the canyon. read more

I had a very different experience than my friends who traveled with a different pilot. If I could do it again, I would have skipped this experience. The pilot asked where we came from and then followed me after the flight to tell me my home country would be "better" if it had more American military in it. Another eerie element was that the pilot made up facts about Ni'ihau -- presenting the natives as having jobs and opportunities that they don't (the pilot stated that natives on the island are employed on the cattle ranch and have a state of the art school that is a feeder for "Ivy Leagues" -- according to the Ni'ihau Heritage Foundation and other sources, the cattle ranch on the island was shuttered in 1999, there is no internet, and the island population is dwindling as a result of highly restrictive rules imposed by the Robinson family owners). Along with a couple other factors, I overall felt very uncomfortable and left as soon as my flight was over. (If you're in a group and don't want to go up, I highly recommend staying in the lobby with the ground crew and watching the educational videos available). read more

I've never been on a helicopter ride before and heard that if you're going to do one, do it on Kauai. I wasn't sure if I'd feel scared or uncomfortable up there. (Having my sister trying to talk me out of it because of recent crashes didn't help.) Eleven of us started with a safety film before heading out to the helipad. There were 5 of us in our copter. My 5'1" body was put in the center front seat between Pilot Beth and my 6'4" husband. There were three in the back. I believe they assign seats based upon weight. I was NEVER scared. Never felt sick. Never a moment uncomfortable. It was so cool watching the changes in the physical landscape and the flora. We went right into the volcano which was AMAZING. We could see whales pouting in the ocean below. The waterfalls were stupendous. Also cool was seeing our shadow and how tiny we were in relation to the stuff below us. We stayed extra long over the water because of all the whale action.Beth was wonderful in explaining where we were and what we were seeing, sharing about her experiences, and was able (and sounded happy) to answer ALL of our questions (and I had a lot!). It was also fun listening to everyone else's comments and questions over the headsets. In between the discussions, there was a good selection of music playing in the background. I enjoyed it immensely, and really wouldn't have wanted to stay longer- it was the perfect thing to do and a perfect amount of time, and having a perfectly blue sky with very little wind was pretty perfect, too! read more

Do not use this company! My family and I wasted an entire day here on this beautiful island planning around our helicopter tour. We had booked a flight for 4:15 PM for myself, my husband, and my 4 year old son. We arrived early Only to find out that they had canceled our flight because they were one person too short to fly. Four is the minimum to fly, which was never communicated to us. But the fact is that we were also never notified that our trip was cancelled. My poor son was heartbroken that he wasn't going on the helicopter ride we had been talking about all day, heck all trip long! Needless to say, that it broke my heart too let my son down like this. It's unfortunate that they were not willing to accommodate us based on the circumstances and poor/no communication on their part. We had paid just under $1000 for this tour by the way. Yes, they refunded it. But there is no getting back a day lost on vacation. read more

Thoroughly disappointed in our experience with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters today. I booked a 4:15 pm flight at 9:00am this morning for myself, my wife, and my 4 year old son. Total cost of just under $1,000 for the three of us. Mind you, this was the most expensive on the island but we thought it would be worth the price given their good reviews. We arrived early as directed, only to find out that they canceled our flight without notifying us. It was cancelled because they were short one person for our flight. Our entire day was planned around this activity. The one activity my 4 year old son had been talking about since we got here. They called the owner to see if they could make an exception since we were never notified. But the owner said no. They are not in the people business, they are in the money business. Was pretty tough having to let my son down and see him get emotional as we left. Hope no one else has to go through this too. read more

Took a helicopter ride over Kauai several years ago and saw a good part of the Island of Kauai. However, this time we took Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. The trip was fantastic and the view out of the helicopter was great. Our pilot, Guy, not only thoroughly described what we were seeing, but also gave a lot of history about the island and its geological birth and evolution. They are not the cheapest, but if you want an experience you won't forget, take Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. read more
