I am so glad I went on this tour!! One of my favorite things that I did on Kauai! It was just my husband and me on this one hour plane tour. Our pilot was friendly and knowledgeable, sharing information about the different sites we visited. We traveled to all of the important and beautiful areas of the island. We were able to see areas of the island that are only accessible via plane or boat such as the Na Pali Coast. The plane was comfortable, spacious and the ride was so smooth. I think this was a better choice than a helicopter because there was no middle seat and did not feel claustrophobic. My husband sat up front next to the pilot. I sat right behind my husband. I liked that the tour was around the entire island. Our pilot asked us if there was anywhere special we wanted to visit. I like that it wasn't a cookie cutter tour. read more

We had seen Waimea canyon from water (catamaran) and from driving in and hiking but the views from above of Kauai were out of this world. It was one of my favorite activities on the trip. Great way to see parts of Hawaii that is very difficult to get to: Na Pali coast, Waimea Canyon, Jurassic Falls, etc. Our pilot (Shaedan) bot only dud a great job piloting the plane, but he was in regular communication with all the passengers during the trip explaining the site below. Although we prepare for a bumpy flight with some nausea meds, our entire flight was extremely smoothies and much smoothies than our commercial flight to Kauai! All 4 of us checked in at the terminal about 20 minutes earlier than our reservation and we were actually wheels up early with an overall flight time of about 50 minutes. Check in was easy, flight was smoothies and the view were amazing - and the weather was amazing on the day we flew. One obviously caution: seeing beautiful from a fixed wings is amazing, but you obviously don't get as low or as close as you would in a helicopter tour, but the fixed wings is about a third of the price. read more

Me and my husband had fun here on our honeymoon! He was apprehensive since he doesn't like small planes and I was excited since I love planes, but we ended up having a good time. Unfortunately I did get motion sickness, which I was not expecting since I fly and go on boats often and typically have no issues, but they were prepared on the plane with cold towels, water, and bags and even made sure I got ginger ale on the ground. Would highly recommend, just make sure you take Dramamine or bring ginger chews or ale with you because you may get motion sickness even if you are a frequent flyer or normally ok like me! We really enjoyed our tour of Kauai! Josh was our pilot and he did a great job! He was very knowledgeable about the various areas of the island and kept the flight as smooth as possible. His overall kind and calm demeanor made for a very pleasant experience. Pro tip: ask when you check in about where you parked. There are limited parking spaces so you may have to get a parking permit from Air Adventures to park in the adjacent lot (and avoid being towed). read more

Our experience with air ventures was great! They ask you to show up 30 minutes early for the check in process but it really did not take that long. They have a nice waiting area with bathrooms in the check in building. Because you are inside a small plane and it is not an open door tour, you do not need to worry about getting cold. I was wore a tank top and shorts and was comfortable the whole ride. You can bring your hat and sunglasses if you please. The plane is very small and carries up to six passengers per tour. It is pretty shaky, but not too bad! (I normally get carsick, and towards the end of the tour did start to get a little nauseous, so just FYI.) Our pilot was very friendly, and answered all our questions throughout the tour. I was a little bummed that we stayed pretty high up throughout the entire tour. We noticed another air ventures plane got almost 1000 feet below us. We could barely see Jurassic falls (see pic)! The overall plane ride was approximately 40 minutes. It goes by really fast and the views of the coastline is breathtaking. This is definitely a must do when you are in Kauai, since most of the island is not accessible by land. I did appreciate this pilots care for safety but I was expecting a little more out of the experience. read more

Booked Air Ventures Hawaii on Kauai for a same week excursion. We found them on Tinggly and saw their reviews on that site before booking. It was an amazing decision! I have been on a Kauai helicopter ride as well so I was able to experience both. Air Ventures is definitely a value for the experience! Our pilot Justin was considerate and caring. He answered all my questions about the island and really made an effort to show the best of the island including pointing out a humpback whale off the Nepali coast! A few notes on the services itself: - $149 per person is a deal! - The right side of the plane sees more of the best of the island including waterfalls and the Napali coast, but Justin did an amazing job making sure the left side got to see everything too with some awesome turns. - The plane is not like a doors off helicopter. It's a smoother ride, and the views are less dramatic. For those who are prone to air sickness, I highly recommend over the helicopter. - Parking and check-in is a breeze, it's right by the FedEx and has a designated parking lot - Very organized operations and the staff are super friendly I would highly recommend Air Ventures Hawaii in Kauai! read more

Communication was difficult as we are competing with the external voices from the tower. Additionally my wife was unaware of the volume adjustment on her headset. One of our best experiences in Hawaii! Our pilot Nate was a pro, with facts and flying. It was a windy day when we went and we were kinda nervous but he calmed us down and my wife even got to sit up front with him! (there was 6 of on the flight) We were able to see a lot of waterfalls, Waimea Canyon, Na'Pali Coast, Princeville and Nate explained a bunch of cool facts to us while flying which I loved. Sad that some of the waterfalls were so little or not even there at all due to the lack of rain the island has been getting. :( nonetheless it was still an incredible experience!! NOTE: if you have a fear of heights or flying this is not for you. It is scary since you are in a small plane and there are going to be shakiness and up and downs and random drops since you are flying over oceans and mountains. It's nothing like being in a huge plane flying into hawaii. Lol. So please beware of that. With that said.. I do recommend that you see Kauai in the air! Whether small plane or helicopter! read more

We took the private flight for two of us with Ray in his Cessna 182 and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the aerial tour of Kauai. It helped that it was a nice sunny day with not too much rain and even the wind over the center of the island wasn't so very bad. We flew towards the very end of our three week stay on Kauai and this was probably the best way to do it as we viewed from the air many of the sights we had visited by car, hike or boat. Ray is a very professional pilot who tells us enough about what's below to enlighten us without being overwhelming. We did see some parts of the island visible only from the air, such as the great Manawaiopuna Falls (aka Jurassic Park Falls), and Ray took us over where we were staying in Princeville as well. My experience was frustrating and disappointing. I was canceled twice due to weather. I appreciate that the pilot made safety a priority and realize that weather isn't always cooperative. However, I wasn't notified of the cancelation until I had taken a $20 dollar taxi ride from the cruise ship to the airport. And then had to pay $20 to return. Earlier notification would have been nice, but I understand that this is tricky. Of more concern was the process of getting a refund. It took an entire month along with several calls and emails to get my refund. They claimed that Viator was holding up the refund. Well, I knew I hadn't used Viator; I booked directly on AVHs website. But I still emailed Viator and they said they had no record of me paying them for this trip. I sent this to AVH. Then, per AVH's request, I sent them a copy of my credit card statement which clearly showed payment directly to AVH. So for them to claim that Viator was holding up my refund was completely false. At one point, a person on the phone suggested that the delay might be due to a computer issue. If so, then that's fine. Just admit to the mistake, apologize for the delay and pledge to improve your process. But don't claim that it was someone's else's fault (Viator). I will say that the people on the phone were nice and I did eventually get my refund. I don't think anything shady happened, but it did seem like a very disorganized company. read more
