Opening up their warm and gorgeous castle to you, Kat and Donn make great hosts that have that unique balance of being friendly and leaving you to discover on your own. The rooms are beautiful, the First Light room, even at the smallest room, was still well appointed with a walk in closet modified into a treasure chest of books, movies, games, a mini fridge and food area (both stocked with snacks even!) water container, extra towels, blankets, serious, it's like a huge cupboard of goodness. Breakfast was divine, seriously, that woman should open up a restaurant closer to me so I can eat there all the time! We stayed two days and were sad to go, I could have been happy there for a week. They have a myraid of animals that roam about and we made fast friends with the cat and pups, having those as tourguides around the grounds was a nice welcome. But let me tell you, that Turkish steam shower? Wow. WOOOOOOWWWWW! As relaxing as it sounds. Maybe more so. Overall, I can't wait to return and with the great prices and fantastic food that comes along with it, it's a sure thing we'll be back again and again. There were loud parties which made going to sleep difficult. No one stopped them. We were able to kayak. Granted, you have to go down a steep hill then carry the kayak up that steep hill. That part was not fun. I will need to return so that I can give it a second chance. At least the view was nice. The only problem was that it had a chicken wire fence (is that what you call it) so trying to look out, I'd see the wire first. ........ ....... .. ..

We couldn't find where to take the trash unless it was supposed to be left in a pile with the overloaded can we did see so we took our trash with us when we left which wasn't convenient to say the least.

We have stayed at Kid Valley three times this past year. We love this campground because it's…read moresmall and set in among tall pine trees. If you want WiFi, swimming pools, and cable TV, then you should stay at a KOA, but if you want peace and quiet in a pretty setting, then this is the perfect little campground to enjoy. We go here to get away from TV, telephones, and computers. Kid Valley is a perfect campground if you want to explore the Johnston Observatory at Mt. St. Helen's or go hiking. There are many good hiking trails--we have hiked Coldwater Lake, the Hummocks, and Harry's Ridge, to name a few. It's true that there is not much else close by, so make sure you have enough fuel and food for your stay. You can buy ice and firewood at the campground. There is also a restaurant within walking distance, but we have never tried it. There are eighteen RV sites with full hookups and two more sites with just electric and water. There are also tents sites and all camping sites have fire rings, picnic tables, spacious campsites. There is not much for privacy between the sites, but the sites are not crammed that close together either. They don't take credit cards, so plan to pay in cash. The rates are very reasonable too. The restrooms are older, but they are clean. If there are any problems at all, Ray, the camp host, is more than happy to assist you. There are some full time campers living here, but they are all located up in the front part of the campground. For us, camping is enjoying nature and getting away from it all. So if you love rustic and peace and quiet, then Kid Valley is a great place to stay.

Small wooded campground in a great location to see the westside of Mount St. Helens…read more Sites/setting: Sites 1-20 are RV sites. Most have full hook-ups. I believe sites 17-20 are just water/electric. Sites 1-6 are currently occupied with long-term residents. Sites A-J are smaller tent sites. Sites are in a wooded setting; however, the woods are in the back of the sites and there is nothing in between each site, so there isn't much privacy. It wasn't too bad because it was pretty empty (aside from the residents), so we only had other campers on one side of us. All sites are easy to get in and out, dirt, and pretty level. All sites have a picnic table and a fire pit (you can purchase wood there for $10 a wheelbarrow). Amenities/Utilities: Cell service was nonexistent. There was no wi-fi available. From the campground to the westside of Mount St. Helens (trails and observation areas) we were never able to get internet, so we had to rely on maps/brochures to plan our days. I wish I would have know this so I could have been more prepared in planning our activities during our stay ahead of time. The campground doesn't have a store(the gas station across the street is permanently closed), so aside from firewood, the closest store is Drew's Grocery which is about 8 miles away. There is no laundry facility. Bathroom was fairly clean and maintained. No dog park, but they do provide doggie bags. Activities: The westside area of Mount St. Helens was about 30-40 minutes away (Mount St. Helens Visitor Center at Silver Lake, Johnston Ridge Observatory, and Coldwater Lake Recreation Area). You can take a short trail to the restaurant Fire Mountain Grill (used to be called Patty's Place at 19 Mile House). The food/service wasn't the greatest, but you get a nice view of Toutle River. Access to swim/fish the Toutle River is 1/4 mile down the road. Turn right out of the campground and take a right on the first road. My little ones enjoyed swimming in the river and swinging on the rope swings into the water hung under the bridge. The center of the campground had a nice large grassy area to run around, a small plastic toddler slide, tether ball, horse shoes, a rundown basketball hoop, a balance beam, and a sandbox. No military discount offered. Current rate was $28 per night for full hook-ups. Must have cash or check! No credit cards accepted. Overall, it was a nice little campground; however, the long-term residents were very off-putting. Some of their trailers were old and unkept some people looked to be living in cargo type trailers even. This is the main reason for the lower rating. We didn't realize when booking that it was so far from some of the trails we were interested in doing during our visit. For example, Ape Cave was over two hours away. Next time I would choose to stay at a campground more centrally located (maybe near Kalama), but if you just want to see the mountain and do a few hikes nearby than this is your place.

I was a little apprehensive at first, but upon check in I found the hotel to possess a character and charm that supercedes really any hotel I have ever stayed at. With a "in a movie" type setting, I was able to not just have a great room, I rented the king suite, which was spacious and awesome, but the sitting areas gave me the feel of an adventure. I would highly recommend, and I know I saw some of the "small room" type comments, the king suite was anything but small. A+++ and already booked my 2nd stay.

They helped with getting an extra blanket, and answered questions I had. Room: very comfortable beds. Very clean room with plenty of towels in the bathroom. There is a larger mini fridge and a microwave. It was nice to have the fridge to store food I had brought. Swimming Pool: small indoor pool and tiny hot tub. Both were warm. The front desk has to unlock the pool which is great for safety. My kids had a lot of fun playing in the pool. Breakfast: Amazing selection for breakfast. Several different stations around the big room it's served in which is nice for not having to wait in line for one thing. My kid's loved the make your own waffle station. I enjoyed the crunchy bacon and eggs. They use real plates and silverware which is great for lessening waste and single use plastics!

But he showed zero candor, politeness or anything at all and coldly told us we'd have to book another room for the fifth person. We ended up needing to have someone sleep in the car for the night. Do not come here if you have 5 or more people, the website barely describes the 4 person policy and it is enforced so thouroughly by the management that it leaves absolutely no room for the staff to be able to provide a welcoming and inviting experience for your average inn enjoyer. After this experience we decided that we wanted to cancel our second night to prevent someone from sleeping in the car again, however they have a policy you have to sign that made it so we would not get a refund whatsoever for that night so we ended up being forced to pay for the second night anyway and go to another hotel. Unbelievably poor service and policies, rude staff, and all around an unpleasent affair.

I called and made a RSVP with a friendly person. When I arrived, there was somber yet jovial person there to assist me. I was tired, hungry and incapable of normal conversation after ten hours on a bicycle. I got my key and immediately because of the decor I was scared of bed bugs. I pulled back the sheets and checked the windowsills. A bug crawled out of the sheets but it was a spider and there was some flies in the sill, but that wouldn't stop me from sleeping. I slept well, but this place shows the signs of being rode hard. If you are exhausted, this is the place for you.

When asked about it, we were moved closer to the office to pick up the wireless. It was strong enough but dropped multiple times on both a laptop and iPad. I'd call it buggy but it may be a short-lived issue.
