Upon a past visit a woman in a leadership role, who had a British accent, asked if I would volunteer to make popovers. I politely declined and explained that I was on vacation and preferred to support the café as a donating customer. Her response surprised me. She immediately went into a rant about millionaires, suggested I look at the multimillion-dollar homes up the street, and seemed to make assumptions about me and why I wasn't volunteering. I'm not a millionaire, but more importantly, I don't think anyone should have to explain or defend why they choose to be a patron rather than a volunteer. You can have a wonderful social mission while still treating visitors with dignity, kindness, and respect. The interaction was odd, unnecessarily aggressive, and really turned me off to the place. For a very different experience, we enjoyed Clark Point Café across the street--the food was excellent, and the people were genuinely warm and friendly.

We were unable to hear the narrator, which was a bit disappointing. The train windows were clean and so was the train itself. The cost was appropriate for the ride. We always like to support the restoration and operation of these vintage rails.

The volunteers that work on the train are pleasant and knowledgable, they checked in throughout the ride and were happy to strike up conversation. Definitely a good use of an afternoon to ride the train around a very rural part of the state; the rail line goes right through a large swamp and lake where there's all sorts of wildlife: deer, herons, beavers, and apparently bears and moose aren't unheard of if it's the right time of the day.

They randomly would forget to pick up our trash throughout the two years I had service with them…read more They are impossible to get ahold of. Their office hours are only 8am-11am so if they forget the trash you can't get ahold of them until the next day for someone to come get it. And they would send someone out the next day. The last straw was they didn't show up to pick up our trash so I called and left a message on their Facebook messenger and never got a reply. Turns out we didn't pay the last months bill but we also didn't receive a bill like normal. Instead of communicating this they just didn't pick up the trash and ignored our calls and messages.
