Strange place. Coffee house slash wine bar slash discount Knick knacks slash super confused. Zero fresh pastries and the most awkward smell were things I could look past because I needed coffee and it was rated so well. One employee on serving six people meant a wait so I took in the strange decor. Apparently this place used to be a bank. Coffee and latte served were both incorrect. I would have had her fix it but she seemed over stressed making drinks with people waiting in line. Two stars because she was super Nice and the place was clean but Jesus this is a poor choice for coffee. read more

It can be tricky to find really good coffee in an unfamiliar city whose intricate, one-way streets and slightly run-down historic neighborhoods aren't always intuitive to navigate. Lewiston, Idaho is easy to avoid if you want to; just follow the signs that shuttle you around the city center using the Highway 12 bypass route, and suddenly you're crossing the Snake River into Clarkston before you even realize it. That's too bad, because Lewiston's Main Street is revitalizing with interesting shops and restaurants and walkable public spaces. And, if you reach the Blue Lantern, you'll also discover some good, locally roasted coffee, free wifi, and fresh baked goods to keep your road trip engine humming. The coffee here is sourced from Landgrove Coffee, a small-batch roaster in Troy, Idaho, and comes from organic, sustainable growers. The baked goods are made in-house using locally milled wheat - how cool is that! The interior space here is very antique-looking, with lovely plants and Victorian-era collectibles and furnishings, with high ceilings and plenty of natural light. You'll feel like you're in a coffeehouse, not a coffee bar or non-descript cafe outfitted with run-of-the-mill IKEA furniture. Blue Lantern is probably the best coffee you'll find when driving the Highway 12 corridor from Montana's Bitterroot Valley, where several good places are available in Missoula (Black Coffee) and Hamilton (Big Creek Coffee). You'll have to drive all the way West on Highway 12 to Dayton or Walla Walla before encountering another coffeehouse, cafe, or roaster of this quality. They offer local beer and wine in the evenings as well; ask the server for more information when you visit. Locally sourced honey, ceramics, and organic milled grains were on sale on a small display shelf when I visited as well. So, the next time you're passing through the area and want to dip your feet into the local downtown culture while enjoying good coffee and baked goods in the process, or just catch up on email or your latest draft Yelp review, bookmark the Blue Lantern and see if you don't walk away as impressed as I was. read more

I am from Seattle and had business in Lewiston for the day. I love this place, the building is amazing and the vault is still intact near the bathroom, and the res of the interior is fabulous. The coffee is the best I'm eastern wa I have had yet. They use only local milk and don't carry non fat. (Sorry people that don't know what good coffee is) Their wifi is fast, there is plenty of on street parking, and the barista was not only knowledgeable but she was super nice. What a treat this place is! While visiting we looked for some non-corporate coffee. This 100+ year old bank space houses a labor of love. Great coffees, organic teas, locally sourced foods and locally crafted art. The baked goods are out sourced currently to the competent Moscow Coop. Quiet atmosphere, good wi-fi, classic couches to sink into, and a make yourself at home attitude make this place great. read more

My second favorite coffeehouse in the Lewis-Clark Valley, but a really, really close second. Outstanding atmosphere, in a beautiful old building located in the heart of historic downtown Lewiston. You'll know it by the curved glass front framed by gorgeous woodwork, marble columns, and brick. I always feel when I walk up the steps to the grand entrance that I'm stepping back in time. Coffee and teas are outstanding, and the baked goodies are wonderful. I highly recommend the fruit galettes and their quiche. Service is prompt and friendly. If coffee or tea isn't your thing, this is also a great place to relax with a book and a glass of wine, or settle in with a local craft brew or two and watch local live entertainment. Free wifi makes this an outstanding place to take a client for a lunch meeting, and while it gets really packed for evening entertainment it's always worth it. Hard to exaggerate how wonderful this place is. read more

This small but incredibly unique little coffee house is located in the heart of Downtown Lewiston Idaho in an old bank building with very cool and totally historic architecture. The owner, Dawn, is fabulously friendly and tends to not only the coffee service but also does the baking of the wonderful fruit galettes and other yummy treats to go along with her coffee or teas. On weekends, she usually has great music playing during the early evening and serves many local beers and wines until closing for her customers to enjoy. I visited Blue Lantern last May when I was here for my Dads 90th Birthday. I was served my coffee in a lovely cup that had a saying on it that I fell in love with. I found the cup on Amazon but my two daughters both said that I had too many coffee cups. So, I didn't buy it. I never forgot about that cup. I had to return to Lewiston in August because my Dad fell and broke his leg. I went to the Blue Lantern yesterday to ask about that cup because Amazon no longer carried it. I have been here for 2 1/2 months caring for my Dad so it's been a difficult time as my husband, job and life are in Seattle. When I ordered my coffee and asked about the cup, they still had it! And they gave it to me! I sat drinking my coffee thinking how lucky I was and how good the coffee was. I'm back today for my last cup of coffee before I go back to Seattle. The guy working here probably thinks I'm nuts. I just stood there and cried. What a wonderful place. read more

I've been here three times and the barista has never gotten my order right. This time I asked for a simple iced matcha latte with coconut milk and I got some white chocolate coffee drink instead. I had to remind her not to use real milk. The decor and atmosphere are very nice and the drinks are very tasty, but apparently never correct. This is the third strike for me, so I won't be back. Hopefully the barista starts listening to orders more carefully. A smile wouldn't hurt the customer service here either. read more

My friend and I were treated rudely today at this coffee shop. Not to mention the rude treatment, my friend has cerebral palsy and was embarrassed because the staff would not bring the drinks to the table and he was unable to walk with the drinks since he has problems walking. There were two employees working and we were the second table in the shop so they were not too busy to help out a disabled person.
