Small quaint older hotel that is very clean, comfy beds and a husband and wife team that own it. They are super nice and gave us tips on things to do and where to eat in the 4 hours of daylight we had left when we arrived. They off pet friendly rooms if needed.

It says motel on the sign but not online

What we didn't realize was that coming to Monticello, there was also a nearby fire! I had called the day before and was assured we'd be pretty safe here. We drove here and was shocked to see the huge smoke cloud from the fire! We took our chances and stayed the night. The office is open during limited hours. We arrived in time to be checked in by a person. Our paperwork was ready and waiting for us. However, in the morning, the office was closed when we were leaving. There's a box with a slot to turn in your keys, so we did that. This is a little motel with rooms looking like they would have back in the 50's-60's era. I enjoyed seeing the vintage features like the real room keys, Frigidaire Refrigerator and corded desk phone with a dial (even though you push the buttons). Even the facial tissue box was covered with a decorative old T.V. set. Something they had here that is not so common at hotels anymore is the Gideon Bible. The room comes with a window A/C unit and a space heater. Our room was #121, a Deluxe King. I booked it through Expedia.com. The room rate was $81.00 plus tax. Pretty fair price! This place was stocked with all the common necessities. We had a coffee maker in the room, but didn't use it. We should have, though! I appreciated the little nook with the desk. Outside the rooms are benches. Also there are parking spaces in front of the rooms. We were able to park right in front of our door. That was very convenient! We had a nice quiet night's rest. Woke up in the morning and checked on the smoke from the fire. It had shifted away from Monticello, so that was a welcome sight to see!

There's also a picnic area and grill. We are traveling for a move and brought our cat. We booked a different hotel in Monticello that was listed as pet friendly on Bookings.com. However when we arrived they didn't take cats. This place was across the street so we gave them a try. The lady at the desk was lovely and accommodating, and she saved the day! There's also a really good Mexican restaurant on the next corner and a coffee shop with amazing breakfast sandwiches across the street. If we ever need to stay in Monticello again we will probably stop here, even without the cat.

2nd Worst Hotel I have Ever Stayed…read more I should have known I was not going to be happy with the hotel when I arrived. When I looked at my reservation, it said check in at 1PM. I was surprised, but we showed up a bit before 2pm. When we got there the husband of the owners said check in was not until 3pm. I showed him what the reservation email confirmation showed. He said it was due to the Experian or Hotels service that I used. I told him, I did not use a hotel service. I made the reservation by calling the hotel directly. He then took a picture of my phone to prove to wife that there was an error on the check in. He then had to get his wife to figure out if they had a room available. Apparently, there was only one room ready at 2pm, and they stuck us in room 114. First off, I am not sure if all the rooms are like this, or if room 114 is just particularly in need of maintenance. When I walked in the room, there was a particular dank smell to the room, and when you walk on the carpet, it just feels foamy. At first, I thought they had just finished shampooing the carpet, but it never seems to go back to normal. The air in the room is overly heavy feeling. When I woke up the next morning, I was looking at the bathroom window, and it was foggy and dripping. There is black mold and mildew around the window. The shower is also heavy with mildew, and the shower head continues to drip. In addition, when you take a shower, the hot and cold keep switching, as if someone is constantly flushing the toilet. The hot is scalding! The sheets are so thin, they are not comfortable. I never asked them to clean the room or make the bed. The cleaning carts are out there all day, so I would go and get additional towels and toilet paper (they only provided half a roll for a three-night stay). In addition, I came home with major bumps on one of my legs, behind my ear, and on my neck. They do not appear to be bed bug bites, but something bit me in that room, and they are quite swollen. All and all a not good experience, so if you must use this hotel, make sure you check the rooms before you unpack and make sure you are satisfied with the room. And stay away from room 114.

Check-in was a ghost town--no one around, had to hunt down someone who looked annoyed we existed. Room felt like a dusty antique store explosion: creaky floors that groaned like they were dying every time you moved, poor lighting so dim you could barely see your own feet, and lightbulbs that were straight-up burned out. Bed was okay if you like lumpy mattresses from the 1800s, but the pillows were flat as pancakes and smelled faintly of old attic. Breakfast? More like a sad self-serve disaster. Tables were dirty, no utensils half the time, trash overflowing, and the "continental" spread was basically stale muffins, watery coffee that tasted like regret, and some sad fruit that had seen better days. No host interaction, no warm vibes--just grab-and-go neglect. The whole place had this weird abandoned energy. No real hospitality, plumbing sounded like a freight train every time someone flushed, and the "quaint" antiques just made everything feel grimy and neglected. Paid way too much for a night of discomfort and disappointment. Zero charm, zero comfort, zero reason to ever come back. It just sucked. Hard. Avoid unless you enjoy paying for regret. 0/10, would rather sleep in the car.

It had been hot all week. 105+ and my two prior lodging choices that advertised AC and WiFi, both failed to deliver AC or WiFi or allow canceling a non-cancelable resv. I arrived without a firm resv, but booking.com said they had one room available. In the lobby is a sign directing guests to call a phone number. No answer. There is another sign with a different number. No answer. There is a button on the wall to summon help. No help arrived. I found my way to the adjacent restaurant. Servers directed me to the bartender. No clue if a room was available. No idea if the rooms had AC. They have window AC units that hat work just fine. No idea if the room had a private or shared bath. Room 4 has a private bath. The only way to book and check-in while standing in the lobby is booking.com. I booked one night. It was then I discovered that the door to room #4 would not close. Further inspection revealed that the strike plate was not (mortised) flush into the door frame. Examining the door, it became apparent that the door could be forced closed, but only if I really put my shoulder in to it. The room and bath were clean and spacious. The stairway is a tad narrow, but that is hardly unexpected for vintage buildings. The restaurant staff is friendly, but uninformed about the lodging operation. The towels were thin and coarse, not plush. They reminded me of the earlier Days Inn stay that was a 0-star experience. I ordered nachos from the bar. Nothing special. Think gas station nachos. The bartender is friendly and makes a damn fine margarita. On-street parking only. Breakfast was not available, so off to the market. Would I return? Maybe.

No note on the website, no note when I booked it, just a paper on the inside of the hotel on the doors to the pool. I feel like it's false advertising since you don't know the pool isn't operational until you arrive. I booked the room with the jacuzzi tub so I could soak after the pool closed if needed. Glad I did. However, it seems like a really bad place to put the jacuzzi tub room on the 2nd floor, and to have the bubbles so powerful that you can't have a full tub or you will have a very wet floor. Also, there were 2 outlets very close to the tub. The closest one had the proper fault interrupter feature, but just another 2 feet away was a plug that did not. The king bed was nice enough, but the hotel outside of the rooms had a shabby feel. Marked up walls, worn carpet, creaky stairs...not sure it was worth the $120 I paid for 1 night.
