Our room was upstairs on the left.

This place was a hidden gem on our way through town. We were headed to a campground but then it was really late at night, we were in need of a shower, and we'd love a place to get us off the road after a really long day of hiking. We stumbled across the Grist Mill Inn. We booked it one hour before we showed up and couldn't have been happier. This is a 100% family owned/run business. When I checked in, the woman was with her kids as it appeared to be just before their bedtime. She even asked me to hold one of them while she put our information into the iPad. The check-in process was in the hallway--no front desk, directions are on the table, and the owner will come to you. We had a lovely stay. It had everything that we needed--a clean room, a clean shower, shampoo and conditioner, breakfast (for an extra charge, but they cook it each morning), and an at-home feeling while on the road. We also got our stay for really cheap. Less than $100. Now can you beat that when you're on the road? I don't think so. Thank you to the family who made us feel at home during our stay at the Grist Mill Inn.

On the way to the Grist Mill Inn!

My father and I were staying in Monticello just for the evening as we were making our way to the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. There's virtually nothing in Monticello so I thought staying in a bed and breakfast would be something unique for us. It'd been years since we've stayed at a B&B but every time we've had the opportunity, it'd been a wonderful experience for us. And the Grist Mill Inn was no different. It's right off the main road in Monticello. We were warmly greeted when we arrived and shown toward our room. We stayed in room no. 7, the Palmer Room on the 3rd floor. We had a king size bed and twin size bed in what seemed like a converted attic. But the room was perfect for us. It was very clean and had that awesome, old fashioned feel and aura to it! Outside our room was an authentic and rustic looking library (definitely brought me back in time!). And the 2nd floor beneath us had a living room couch area with a big screen TV for us to watch the NBA playoffs Spurs vs. OKC. The Grist Mill Inn had everything we were looking for. It had a true sense of the word being "quaint and homely". We had a good nights rest after exploring Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands earlier in the day and then traveling a couple hours from Moab. Our only regret was not being able to stick around for the home cooked breakfast in the morning. It started at 7:30am or you can choose a later time at 8:30am and it cost $10 per person. My father and I had a busy day ahead and were getting out on the road pretty early. But the Grill Mist Inn was a memorable place for us and we'd certainly recommend it to anyone traveling through Monticello, Utah.

A charming inn with rooms beautifully decorated with a 19th century feel, and warm, inviting common areas throughout. The main inn has seven rooms, and a separate cottage has four extra rooms, giving the Grist Mill Inn a total of 11 rooms. Each room is unique, some furnished with multiple beds, to accommodate families. Not all rooms have king sized beds, so if that is your preference, be sure to make that request when making your reservation. There is a good amount of on-street parking in front of the inn, as well as a parking lot between the inn and the cottage. The managers are friendly and accommodating (Knowing we're vegan, they let us know their pancakes and waffles are made without eggs or dairy, and they gave us extra fruit instead of meat.) The standard breakfast offered several choices including eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, pancakes, and coffee, tea, and juice. The inn is just off Hwy 191 in Monticello, Utah, about an hour south of Moab.

It caught our attention when we first walked in. We noted an energy before we even knew where we were staying. After reading about the mill the energy totally made sense. It was clean, cozy and a comfy little inn. We would totally stay again, check out room number 4...

Cute little room in a darling bed and breakfast. Relaxed but incredibly helpful service. The attached Granary Bar & Grill was a welcomed relief as well- serving one of the best bleu cheese dressings, red potatoes with horseradish garlic aioli and green chili chicken chowder as the soup of the day. Delicious food & fun cocktails for fair prices. The service here was something extra special as well. Our waitress worked so hard as the only waitress for our particular evening and even jumped in to help serve as our b&b hostess as well when we couldn't find our key. Cheery and patient despite the hustle, she helped us feel welcomed and eager to leave a great review. Thanks for the excellent hospitality!

Great place to stay especially if you don't want to pay the high prices in Moab. Comfortable bed and pillows.

We really liked this place. They serve breakfast. The bed and pillows were comfortable. It was clean and a fun little place with antiques throughout. It felt like home.

What we didn't realize was that coming to Monticello, there was also a nearby fire! I had called the day before and was assured we'd be pretty safe here. We drove here and was shocked to see the huge smoke cloud from the fire! We took our chances and stayed the night. The office is open during limited hours. We arrived in time to be checked in by a person. Our paperwork was ready and waiting for us. However, in the morning, the office was closed when we were leaving. There's a box with a slot to turn in your keys, so we did that. This is a little motel with rooms looking like they would have back in the 50's-60's era. I enjoyed seeing the vintage features like the real room keys, Frigidaire Refrigerator and corded desk phone with a dial (even though you push the buttons). Even the facial tissue box was covered with a decorative old T.V. set. Something they had here that is not so common at hotels anymore is the Gideon Bible. The room comes with a window A/C unit and a space heater. Our room was #121, a Deluxe King. I booked it through Expedia.com. The room rate was $81.00 plus tax. Pretty fair price! This place was stocked with all the common necessities. We had a coffee maker in the room, but didn't use it. We should have, though! I appreciated the little nook with the desk. Outside the rooms are benches. Also there are parking spaces in front of the rooms. We were able to park right in front of our door. That was very convenient! We had a nice quiet night's rest. Woke up in the morning and checked on the smoke from the fire. It had shifted away from Monticello, so that was a welcome sight to see!

There's also a picnic area and grill. We are traveling for a move and brought our cat. We booked a different hotel in Monticello that was listed as pet friendly on Bookings.com. However when we arrived they didn't take cats. This place was across the street so we gave them a try. The lady at the desk was lovely and accommodating, and she saved the day! There's also a really good Mexican restaurant on the next corner and a coffee shop with amazing breakfast sandwiches across the street. If we ever need to stay in Monticello again we will probably stop here, even without the cat.

2nd Worst Hotel I have Ever Stayed…read more I should have known I was not going to be happy with the hotel when I arrived. When I looked at my reservation, it said check in at 1PM. I was surprised, but we showed up a bit before 2pm. When we got there the husband of the owners said check in was not until 3pm. I showed him what the reservation email confirmation showed. He said it was due to the Experian or Hotels service that I used. I told him, I did not use a hotel service. I made the reservation by calling the hotel directly. He then took a picture of my phone to prove to wife that there was an error on the check in. He then had to get his wife to figure out if they had a room available. Apparently, there was only one room ready at 2pm, and they stuck us in room 114. First off, I am not sure if all the rooms are like this, or if room 114 is just particularly in need of maintenance. When I walked in the room, there was a particular dank smell to the room, and when you walk on the carpet, it just feels foamy. At first, I thought they had just finished shampooing the carpet, but it never seems to go back to normal. The air in the room is overly heavy feeling. When I woke up the next morning, I was looking at the bathroom window, and it was foggy and dripping. There is black mold and mildew around the window. The shower is also heavy with mildew, and the shower head continues to drip. In addition, when you take a shower, the hot and cold keep switching, as if someone is constantly flushing the toilet. The hot is scalding! The sheets are so thin, they are not comfortable. I never asked them to clean the room or make the bed. The cleaning carts are out there all day, so I would go and get additional towels and toilet paper (they only provided half a roll for a three-night stay). In addition, I came home with major bumps on one of my legs, behind my ear, and on my neck. They do not appear to be bed bug bites, but something bit me in that room, and they are quite swollen. All and all a not good experience, so if you must use this hotel, make sure you check the rooms before you unpack and make sure you are satisfied with the room. And stay away from room 114.

No note on the website, no note when I booked it, just a paper on the inside of the hotel on the doors to the pool. I feel like it's false advertising since you don't know the pool isn't operational until you arrive. I booked the room with the jacuzzi tub so I could soak after the pool closed if needed. Glad I did. However, it seems like a really bad place to put the jacuzzi tub room on the 2nd floor, and to have the bubbles so powerful that you can't have a full tub or you will have a very wet floor. Also, there were 2 outlets very close to the tub. The closest one had the proper fault interrupter feature, but just another 2 feet away was a plug that did not. The king bed was nice enough, but the hotel outside of the rooms had a shabby feel. Marked up walls, worn carpet, creaky stairs...not sure it was worth the $120 I paid for 1 night.
