Great inventory of Herbs, Oils, Tonics, Incense, Soaps, Teas & reading materials. Unfortunately, the seasoned & knowledgable Owner/Employees behind the counter could use a quick lesson in engaging with the customers. The elder of the two, answered my friend's questions in a condescending manner as if she was suppose to know the answers, not cool. There a few supplemental items that are heavily marked up, yet overall price point for the majority of the products balances out. Service needs to be better, period.

    the front of the building

The owner of the store is extremely rude and is very homophobic. He is intentionally dismissive and does his best to provide the worst customer service he can. He whispers insults under his breath at you and when you confront him on it , he acts like it never happened.I don't appreciate the service he offers nor his commentary and intentional difficulty. I've literally been nothing but kind and supportive of him and he does his best to insult and talk down to me. You can tell he harbors a deep hatred in his heart, not all skin folk are your kinfolk.I won't be shopping here again.

    Herbs are the best.

the prices for the herbs were decent and fair. However, since the pandemic Sea Moss is hard to find and they were definitely over priced.

All the pastry was delightfully flaky and appropriately filled. Pistachio croissant was dancing on the edge of being a bit too sweet but went very well with my latte. Latte and cappuccino were nothing to write home about, potentially underextracted as there wasn't too much flavor coming through. Totally inoffensive and wouldn't hesitate to get another espresso drink if we were grabbing pastries again. Nice quaint limited outdoor seating. Had a nice chat while we demolished our goods right out front. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff that knows how to move the line quickly!

We were lucky enough to snag some goodies and got a bit of everything, we just weren't patient enough to wait to photograph everything. We did the Za'atar Gruyère Croissant, chocolate croissant, the cheese biscuit item they had (don't remember exact name) and the sfogliatelle. I'm in search of the best croissant in DC, so I regret not getting the regular croissant on this visit, but the chocolate croissant gave me an idea of what to expect. Buttery, flaky, crispy, with just the perfect amount of sweetness. The typical chocolate croissant was my personal favorite. When we asked what the most popular items were, we were surprised it wasn't the more classic bakery items, but we enjoyed what we tried. We want to go back soon to try some other items as well. My friend got a coffee and also enjoyed that! This is the perfect place to stop by for a treat if you make it in time!

They were all $5.50, except the bilo bilo matcha ($6). There were five options: *ube horchata latte *bibingka latte (salted egg caramel) *sampaguita latte (jasmine) *buko pandan latte (coconut pandan) *bilo bilo matcha They also have teas, cocktails, and two mocktails. I tried the burnt coconut chicken and BBQ beef rice bowls. The meat tasted as if it came right off the grill, with great marination. Both dishes also come with papaya atsara, which adds a bold pickled flavor to the mix. I'm excited to do some work here this weekend. When we arrived, there weren't many other diners, but it got busy pretty quickly. Our server wasn't the most available (given how crowded it was) and our food came out slower than we'd like (~25 minutes between courses). SOURDOUGH BOMBOLINI This was a small sourdough roll topped with a thin slice of prosciutto, finely-shredded manchego, and black truffle cream. This was quite good with the earthy truffle flavors, fatty and savoriness from the prosciutto. This felt more of an Italian appetizer than Filipino, but still enjoyable. TUNA & WATERMELON Is it tuna or watermelon? It was hard to tell at first glance since both are deep bright red and cut in a similar shape. The sauce surrounding it was a coconut vinaigrette paired with some herb oil. Overall, found it a bit too sweet, especially the watermelon pieces. I thought it was okay, but my friend really enjoyed this appetizer. CRAB NOODLES I think this is supposed to be pancit-inspired, but it tasted more like a an Asian-inspired pasta since it didn't have that smoky stir-fry flavor I was expecting. This was prepared with crab and peas and topped generously with salmon roe(?) with slightly spicy chili(?) sauce. Overall, a bit bland and felt like it was missing an oomph. LA BELLE FARM CHICKEN The potato gratin was my favorite, perfect potato texture with a good amount of cream and garlic. The roasted asparagus were meh, almost like it was there to fill up the plate. The chicken was roasted and seasoned simply -- juicy for the most part, but again, nothing unique. The pastel sauce on the side was savory and a nutty, which elevated the dish a bit. GRANITA This was more of a frozen dessert fruit cup with cantaloupe granita, jackfruit, strawberries, and mangos. The mangos were definitely not in season, as they were really hard. The jackfruit tasted like it was from a can. The fruity syrup tasted artificial and strange. Unfortunately, we both did not enjoy this dessert. UBE HALAYA CHOCOLATE This dessert was more unique with an ube mousse (shaped like an egg) with dry, thin vermicelli-like noodles wrapped around like a birds nest and adorned with edible flower petals. The presentation was beautiful. The ube flavor was pretty strong and the mousse was smooth. Overall, this was quite good and definitely one of the stronger dishes of the night. While there was nothing wrong or particularly bad about the food, I did find the flavors underwhelming and unimpressive. I wasn't feeling a lot of excitement throughout the meal. My friend enjoyed the food, so it's probably more of a personal preference. Overall, it was expensive (~$85 after tax and tip) for the quantity of food received, so I'm unlikely to return.

I do appreciate that the tab was able to be split by individual though. The restaurant doesn't have a ton of seating like most dc restaurants, so calling ahead or making a reservation is a good call. We had an early dinner, so I was able to take advantage of their happy hour from 4-6:30. I ordered the rice whiskey which had a very subtle flavor, nice and not too alcoholic. I also ordered the poke tower, which was good, but not enough food to get full on. I ordered the khao soi, which was good, but a little too much broth and not enough noodles. The noodles also felt like they had been oversoaked and cooked in the broth. I think the pad thai would've been a better choice. More than half the dish was broth that was too sweet to drink on its own. I think if you got a rice side it'd be good to share with someone.

I'll cut to the chase (finally), stop smack-talking headshops (though I generally condemn the existence of any that all-too-often adhere to that basic formula listed above, as I believe that those stores which are able to sell "legal highs" but are unable to give any helpful information about their "proprietary" ingredients or warnings or, really, anything helpful that may serve as a means of reducing potential harm) and save you the (likely-long-extinguished) suspense: this shop was a fantastic departure from that headshop bogeyman that inexplicably rests at the forefront of my mind most of the time. The store is tiny but beautifully laid-out, light and airy, and very well-stocked. The employees whom I spoke to, and who were also helping other customers, were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. While obviously you can't be absolutely certain about the contents of any of their products (as they are not FDA-approved, and the store is not a DC-regulated dispensary), I recognized many of the brands sold and feel quite confident that what you see is what you get. It's very obvious by the information volunteered by the employees (including some very beautiful brochures and pamphlets about their shop and their products -- I uploaded a crappy iPhone photo of the front and back of an introductory brochure to CBD that serves as an excellent 101 for any "beginner") and the upkeep of their shop that they take pride in the range, efficacy, utility, and quality of the products that they sell, and with each customer who doesn't quite know yet where to start in the potentially huge -- and therefore often excessively confusing or contradictory -- world that can comprise CBD or kratom or other herbal modalities, it truly seems that the folks working here make a true effort to match customers with the type of item that would best suit their needs. I definitely give five stars and doff my cap to this store -- after failing to renew my medical marijuana card this past year and having lacked the money and time to rectify that, this type of store is an excellent alternative or complement to the regulated DC medical dispensaries. Obviously they legally cannot sell anything containing THC, but that's no problem with me, and it's always good to see a store that theoretically COULD source more "stoner"-centric products and try to get away with it (we've all seen those weird pop-ups in DC from time to time), they make it very clear that they intend to follow the law to the letter. I hope that this shop sticks around for a long time, because it's very impressive -- aesthetically, economically, and by the helpfulness and non-judginess of their staff -- and I always want to support local businesses like that. (To be fair, I believe that they do have another shop in Illinois or something, but even so, it's still a small, independent company that seems to main high standards and ethics in an industry where they could easily get away with selling bunk garbage, with many customers none the wiser. I admire their integrity.)
