I've been raised up on Blue Nile as an adolescent. My parents were regulars for 30 years. The people were always kid friendly and the atmosphere was amazing. As I settled into my adult years I became a regular myself & introduced many people to Blue Nile. However there's been a dark shift that has happened in that shop the staff has changed & just the other day I brought my 2 year old in the shop and he pushed a button on a printer that sits in the middle of the floor in the shop low enough that he could reach and it printed a few labels of course I apologized and picked him he was very close to me and I was gathering my order. Nothing was broke but the lady went off and kept pacing back and forth furious, it made me so uncomfortable that that much anger was directed towards a child so I started to head for the door with my baby and the other lady said "well are you going to still buy this stuff" Sweetheart, I will never step foot back in that place. read more

Blue Nile has been a staple in the Georgia Avenue community for at least forty years. However, the original store was sold and it has moved over top an ice cream parlor couple of doors down. With that move the ambience and witty banter has also been replaced with a more solemn atmosphere. They no longer carry a lot of the products they were selling and the aura is just off. The employees don't greet you with the passion that they were once known for. They don't interact with their customers and really act like it's a bother now. read more

They have a dry sense of humor, but their primary goal is to take care of their community. The prices were reasonable, and the selection was broad. They suggested seamoss to supplement my goals, and it was available in both smoothie and concentrated gel form. I walked away with a dose of old-fashioned wisdom along with my herbs and seamoss. I visited a few weeks ago to pick up some herbs. We were greeted immediately upon entry. I went on a Saturday and parking was not difficult to find. It is a small store, but it has practically ever herb you can ever want, you can purchase the herbs by the ounce. They also have incense. The prices are affordable in my opinion. Came here to support a Black Business and left feeling uncomfortable! (customer experience) Business review: This shop has so much to offer when it comes to health/self care stuff! There is a nice variety of incenses that smell lovely. They are .10/per bundle and I got several. There soaps are are the same, or similar in regards to pricing of other stores. They had Dr. Bronners (a personal favorite), other liquid soaps and bar soaps. They also had books for sale and Seamoss!! This store definitely has a hotep vibe when it comes to all your personal florida water and sage needs. Overall a very nice amount of different times. Customer experience: As soon as I came into the shop a worker was making comments about gay people. I hadn't known why he was saying them so I initially ignored. This same man continued to make unnecessary comments about gay people existing. After telling him that, I too was queer, he was obviously embarrassed. I would not come back here for this reason. This business needs to understand that sometimes Black people want to support your business, sometimes those people are queer! Why is it when I entered this place I was hearing such ignorance? It's 2022, you never know who you maybe speaking to, and who is trying to support your business so do not make your customers feel unwelcome by your own ignorance. I enjoy this store. It is one of the only black owned botanicas in the area. It's a relatively small shop but the walls are covered with jars of different herbs and supplements. They also have body washes, tooth pastes, and other natural remedies. I'm typically able to get in and out. The employees there are also pretty helpful with health questions that you may ask. I come here every couple of weeks to stock up on herbs that I put in my baths and tea. They definitely have a great amount of different herbs and oils that you can use. Alkaline water, all natural soap and lotion and other miscellaneous items are sold there as well. Every time I go in it's the same lady and gentleman working. They both are very nice, however the gentleman seems to know more about what things are and can be used for. Most of the time I don't have trouble finding parking and this is on Saturday's around 12-1pm. It's street parking and you walk down into the store. It's very cozy (meaning small) and if five people were in there looking around at the same time it could feel a little crowded. But from what I experienced, most people are in and out. Especially looking at it from my perspective - someone who has spent at least 6+ hours researching Black-owned botanical shops for this kind of selection of bulk herbs, great pricing, and shipping available. I order online from this shop, and I know it's owned by an elder who may not be hip to the internet game and might not give you that entitled *perfect* customer service you're used to, but you will get quality herbs, at a good price, with an incredible selection from the oldest Black-owned botanical shop in the entire country that's been around for over 40 years. For the record, every time I call to check that an herb I need is in stock, the man on the phone is extremely nice and helpful. Some tips for ordering online: Rarely something might be out of stock, and they will refund that product and fulfill the rest of your order. Easy enough to solve, just call and double check if there's something you really need. I'm usually ordering quite a few herbs but if there's that one that will make-or-break my order, I call. Prices are a bargain compared to Whole Foods or MOMs Organic market. The owner is omniscient, always present and helpful. This is a solid herb shop and had mostly everything I was looking for at good prices. The guys behind the counter were nice and helpful. If I could do 3.5 stars I would. I took off one star because the packaged herb supplements (Nature's Way etc.) were pretty marked up - enough so that I went to Whole Foods and saved money. The other star/ half star is because the place didn't feel the cleanest. I'm sure it's perfectly clean and just an older building and they haven't updated the interior but when dealing with a loose product like herbs, I kind of want that super clean/new vibe. I went back and forth on including this but it stood out to me enough that I'm not sure I'd go back unless I need something the same day. It seemed honest to highlight it. read more
