Considering I basically live right around the corner, it's a shame that it's taken me so long to try!! Came for lunch on a Sunday with a friend and we split a few different things, including a curry, a sushi roll, and some noodles. Everything was really delicious and flavorful, and I was very impressed, especially considering that it was relatively inexpensive. My favorite part was going downstairs and shopping in the market afterward. Again, I'm shocked by the fact that I've never been here before! They do fun little classes and they were doing a rice tasting while I was there, which is pretty cool.

An adorable local Thai restaurant with a very cool Asian market in the basement. The food at the restaurant is stellar and the staff is lovely! The food comes out fast and the overall place has a very cozy feeling. The sushi is amazing, the Pad Thai is top 5 best in DC for sure, and the Spicy Duck is GREAT! It's a great portion of duck and prepared in a very unique and delicious way! Love coming here!

Great happy hour, great nagiri, one of my favorite stops on 14th. Fantastic gift shop and Asian market in the basement level.

Passed by this place several times and finally was able to make it for dinner. I have been to the store a few times but never dined at the restaurant. I was shocked to see a lower than aged rating on Yelp. Seems most of the 1,2 and 3 star reviews were from a few years ago. Can't speak to what it was back then but my meal was delicious. I got the red curry noodles with beef and it was fantastic! The dish came with the squid ink noodles, potatoes, vegetables and beef of course. The broth was phenomenal and packed with flavor. We opted to sit outside since it was such a nice day! Service was pretty quick but it did take forever to get the bill. We had to walk inside to ask for the check. I would definitely come again and love they have takeout so I don't have to dine inside if it's busy.

Rice Restaurant is my favorite spot for pad thai + pad see ew. Yesterday I decided to try their sushi, and it did not disappoint. I wish there were a few more pieces, but it's at a great price point. The roll, pad thai, and basil fried rice were so tasty.

One of my favorite Thai food spots in Northwest, and my go-to for takeout. The inside of the restaurant is cute and the outdoor seating along 14th street is great on a nice day. The cocktails were decent, I liked the Passion Cooler. Green Papaya Pad Thai - Go-to dish here. Lighter but just as flavorful as regular pad thai. (5/5) Drunken Squid Ink - So so good. The squid ink spaghetti adds a nice umami flavor to the drunken noodle dish. (5/5) Still good (4/5): Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, Tom Yum Soup, Traditional Rolls-- consistent but only comes with 6 pieces. Pass (3/5): Pad See Eew, Panang Curry-- they put mixed vegetables including cabbage into their curry which I did not like because it watered down the curry.

This place is fantastic for big parties to visit. The restaurant really takes care of everyone to make people feel truly welcomed. The server was beyond nice even augmenting drinks to specifications enjoyed at the table. Each dish was simple perfection too. This place is a must try.

Tofu Pad Thai with egg, chive, ground peanuts, red bean curd and bean sprouts --- literal YUM! loved how cozy rice restaurant was, no frills, but great food at a neighborhood spot

I have genuinely only ever heard good things about Rice, so it's about time I make an appearance - I absolutely love the idea of a half market - half restaurant. there are shockingly few Asian markets in DC so this place provides for the people!! ofc I didn't even remember to go check the downstairs market out after dinner....an excuse to go back! - I ordered the chicken and Asian pumpkin. never had pumpkin in an Asian style dish and this was fabulous. I can't can't quite describe the sauce, but it was not too gingery or soy sauce heavy, somehow enough flavor to saturate the chicken but allow for the pumpkins flavor to come through - the pumpkin was cooked perfectly to be delicate and soft but still had a break in texture with the skin (even tho it wasn't hard / inedible like squash skin can be) - loved the portion of chicken. rice was overcooked and not the most appealing as you can see - my friend loved her drunken noodle. such a good serving of chicken, soft noodles, and overall delicious - the service left a lot to be desired, I wasn't expecting a casual market based restaurant to have over the top service but the woman made no efforts to be warm! and she took my plate while I was actively still chewing ha!

Rice was a great dinner spot! Came here with a friend in need of some tasty Thai food and were not disappointed. We sat outside and started our meal off with the Spring Rolls and drinks. The rolls were crispy and had a unique sauce that really livened up the flavors of the appetizer. I got the Matcha Margarita and appreciated its smooth, sweet flavor. All matcha lovers need to give this a try! I then got the Drunken Noodles with chicken for my main. I loved all of the crispy, flavorful vegetables in the dish. Portions were so filling I had a great amount of leftovers for the next day. Not too pricey and tastes great! One downside - I would have liked it to be spicier. Remember to ask them for spice levels before ordering. If you are in need of a new dinner spot, Rice is just the place!

Finally dined in at Rice (rather than takeout) and can't rave enough about how good it is. Waters were refilled very quickly. Service was great but not overbearing. I got the pad Thai with chicken and the portion was insanely huge that I had a huge box for leftovers. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was also insanely good. The vibe is cozy but everyone seemed to be there with a friend catching up. I will definitely make this one of my new casual places to eat in.

We had major indecision because there's SO many things on the menu we wanted to try but ended up getting: Naem khao: 4/5 probably better with the sour pork, but loved how fresh this was. It was a large portion too, so we got kind of full from finishing it before our mains even arrived. Shrimp pad see ew: 5/5 the best pad see ew I've had in the DMV. So much wok fire flavor. You can really taste the caramelization. And the large shrimp were velveted which was made it extra satisfying to eat. Also a good shareable portion size! Muu Som: 4/5 this was super rich and heavy. Would get this again only to share with a larger group. Loved that it came with sticky rice. Mango sticky rice: 4/5 delicious but in my opinion didn't need the ice cream on top (my boyfriend thinks otherwise though). Very large portion as well. The cocktails were a little pricy ($15) for what they were but I did love the tamarind margarita. Just wish it was a larger drink or a smaller price tag. Service was very attentive!

I actually intended to try out the Trini Vybez restaurant next door, but discovered they're closed but their signage is still up. Anyways, I got a seat at the bar for myself and service was great. I was a bit indecisive as the menu is pretty extensive, and I've never eaten Laotian food before. Luckily, it was happy hour, so I was able to sample a couple of their appetizers and their daiquiri which was quite strong. I had the Tam Sum, papaya salad and that was very good with a hint of spice and lime. Then, I also had Chuenh Peek Gai, which was tamarind glazed wings. Omg they were savory and crispy! I loved these. For the entree, the bartender recommended some great options, but I finally settled on Kee Mao, which is flattened rice noodles with stir fry beef and vegetables. It was also a very savory dish, with a sweetness to it. Laotian food is very similar to Thai food and I love Thai food. I will not sleep on this restaurant and will be back soon!!

I sampled a crispy rice salad and some drunken noodles, expecting to eat about half of each. The salad was fantastic, with the light texture of the crispy rice allowing the aroma of lime, chili, and various other flavors to percolate through it. I asked them to hit me with the full spice level for my drunken noodles, and they were venomous, even once I had gotten used to them. The people were preparing some spice trays to be used for ad hoc seasoning, but I had no need of any further chili. A Thai iced tea with lychee I thought was going to be a milk tea, as the term Thai iced tea normally connotes, but it was in fact just tea with fruit. Still good though, and it came with one full lychee. Some of the other people eating around me noted that they planned on leftovers and instead ate everything they got, a comment that the portions aren't huge but also that the flavors are captivating. I finished mine too.

Corn coated in a thin layer of tempura batter, fried until crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, showcasing its natural sweetness and slightly chewy texture. It was somewhat like a Chinese yumi-lao玉米烙 but more moist. The most surprising thing was that despite being entirely vegetarian food, it has the sweetness and meaty texture of fried shrimp paste. The sweet and sour sauce is similar to the Thai sweet chili sauce commonly found in China, but thinner. Served in a small cup, it looked like a cup of black tea, making it more refreshing. Grilled Pork Neck: Very different from pork neck in Chinese Thai cuisine; it's more like Cantonese char-siu叉燒. The pork neck was very well marinated and grilled to a very tender perfection, with a rich and smooth honey aroma, and a subtle wine aftertaste, but it was slightly too sweet for me. Nam Jin Jaew was primarily composed of the tangy kick of lime and the savory saltiness of fish sauce, complemented by the mild spiciness of bird's eye chili, the special fragrance of cilantro, and the sweetness of palm sugar, with a subtle hint of smokiness. It was refreshing on the whole, and incredibly layered - I fell in love with it instantly. Tom Saab Soup: It looked light, but it was surprisingly spicy and sour! The ribs were very fresh, all marbled with fat and lean meat, stewed until incredibly tender, allowing you to taste the natural aroma of the meat. The sourness was subtle, clear, and mild, with a base of lemongrass fragrance that added even more depth. My friend thoughtfully ordered it mildly spicy, but in the end, it just felt like it lacked a kick. Mango Sticky Rice: The best mango sticky rice I've ever had! The sticky rice was cooked to perfect texture and warmth, absorbing the coconut milk flawlessly - neither too watery nor too dry. The first taste was the fragrance of glutinous rice, followed by the sweetness of coconut milk, and a refreshing, slightly tart mango to cut through the richness. Thai Iced Tea: Too much condensed milk, excessively sweet. My friend said it was much sweeter than the last time she had it. Was this a change in the recipe, or did the quality control need improvement? Donsak is a district in Surat Thani, Thailand, and also the hometown of the restaurant's co-owner and manager, Boom, where she was born and raised. The restaurant's introduction states: "When she left for the US, Boom didn't know she wouldn't get to see her home again for many years - and she still hasn't. Donsak is a way around that." No wonder what truly touches the heart, is indeed the taste of love and home.
