Came for lunch on a Sunday with a friend and we split a few different things, including a curry, a sushi roll, and some noodles. Rice, not to be confused with Rice Market. Cute restaurant, which apparently also hosts classes and private events like hand pulled noodle making etc. I came here for a friend's birthday which was nice, but a little hard for a large group. I do appreciate that the tab was able to be split by individual though. The restaurant doesn't have a ton of seating like most dc restaurants, so calling ahead or making a reservation is a good call. We had an early dinner, so I was able to take advantage of their happy hour from 4-6:30. I ordered the rice whiskey which had a very subtle flavor, nice and not too alcoholic. I also ordered the poke tower, which was good, but not enough food to get full on. I ordered the khao soi, which was good, but a little too much broth and not enough noodles. The noodles also felt like they had been oversoaked and cooked in the broth. I think the pad thai would've been a better choice. Can't believe I'd never been to Rice until today! The space is compact, like you'd expect for 14th St, but cozy. They were able to seat our party of 7 for lunch without a reservation. Everything we had--spring rolls, edamame, noodles, Thai iced tea--was tasty and fresh. The menu is also clearly marked with the dishes that can be made vegan or are spicy. I recommend the drunken noodles with tofu! The service slowed a bit as they got more crowded but overall were attentive. It's a good spot and the market downstairs is an added bonus! I've lived on 14th St for nearly five years, and one regret I have is not making Rice one of my regular spots sooner! This restaurant and market is an absolute gem in Logan Circle, providing a modern Thai experience with a variety of menu options and a quaint restaurant dining experience. The staff is super kind and attentive, making you feel at home and taken care of during the entirety of your stay. I absolutely love the spicy tuna roll along with the spring rolls. The traditional and special rolls are definitely a great starter to share if you're only ordering one or you can make it a meal by ordering a few for yourself. Passed by this place several times and finally was able to make it for dinner. I have been to the store a few times but never dined at the restaurant. I was shocked to see a lower than aged rating on Yelp. Seems most of the 1,2 and 3 star reviews were from a few years ago. Can't speak to what it was back then but my meal was delicious. I got the red curry noodles with beef and it was fantastic! The dish came with the squid ink noodles, potatoes, vegetables and beef of course. The broth was phenomenal and packed with flavor. We opted to sit outside since it was such a nice day! Service was pretty quick but it did take forever to get the bill. We had to walk inside to ask for the check. The cocktails were decent, I liked the Passion Cooler. Green Papaya Pad Thai - Go-to dish here. Lighter but just as flavorful as regular pad thai. (5/5) Drunken Squid Ink - So so good. The squid ink spaghetti adds a nice umami flavor to the drunken noodle dish. Rice was a great dinner spot! Came here with a friend in need of some tasty Thai food and were not disappointed. We sat outside and started our meal off with the Spring Rolls and drinks. The rolls were crispy and had a unique sauce that really livened up the flavors of the appetizer. I got the Matcha Margarita and appreciated its smooth, sweet flavor. All matcha lovers need to give this a try! I then got the Drunken Noodles with chicken for my main. I loved all of the crispy, flavorful vegetables in the dish. Portions were so filling I had a great amount of leftovers for the next day. Not too pricey and tastes great! One downside - I would have liked it to be spicier. I have genuinely only ever heard good things about Rice, so it's about time I make an appearance - I absolutely love the idea of a half market - half restaurant. there are shockingly few Asian markets in DC so this place provides for the people!! ofc I didn't even remember to go check the downstairs market out after dinner....an excuse to go back! - I ordered the chicken and Asian pumpkin. never had pumpkin in an Asian style dish and this was fabulous. I can't can't quite describe the sauce, but it was not too gingery or soy sauce heavy, somehow enough flavor to saturate the chicken but allow for the pumpkins flavor to come through - the pumpkin was cooked perfectly to be delicate and soft but still had a break in texture with the skin (even tho it wasn't hard / inedible like squash skin can be) - loved the portion of chicken. rice was overcooked and not the most appealing as you can see - my friend loved her drunken noodle. such a good serving of chicken, soft noodles, and overall delicious - the service left a lot to be desired, I wasn't expecting a casual market based restaurant to have over the top service but the woman made no efforts to be warm! and she took my plate while I was actively still chewing ha! read more

For those DC folks who remember DC Noodle on U Street (closed 2022), Rice is the parent and brought over many of the beloved noodle dishes to the menu at Rice. This place has an Asian market downstairs, restaurant on the main floor, and upstairs they have a teaching kitchen! I'm very excited to report on this! Though I didn't get to see the teaching kitchen. No class today. In the Market: they have everything from Kikkoman and Marukan to imported brands in various Asian languages; and also noodles and grains, sauces and spices, tea and wine, home goods and decor, as well as pre-cooked meals and meals ready-to-cook, this little market has a little bit of everything! And how fun to have a grab and go to eat at home, or pick up a meal kit to cook yourself at home? Genius move for a restaurant! Upstairs is the dining room: small and minimalist dining room seating 26 at tables, 10 at the bar, 4 at the front window, and 26 on the patio, there is a different feel to each. Find the vibe that suits you. I sat in the dining room to take in the quiet ambiance and focus on the food experience. From the Happy Hour menu (3-6:30),I ordered the Golden Triangle pineapple rum cocktail. Ok, I had 2... Sweet with a little citrus balance, and absolutely delicious! Also from HH Food, I ordered the Takoyaki.: a ball-shaped Japanese dumpling-esque snack (from Wikipedia): "typically filled with minced or diced octopus, tempura scraps, pickled ginger, and green onion". These two are not on the regular menu, so be sure to come during HH to try these! I also ordered the shrimp tempura roll at the HH price. Good deal saving $3! From the regular menu I ordered the Tom Yum Goong soup: shrimp and mushroom in lemongrass broth. Plentiful mushrooms but only 2 tail-on shrimp, and a surprising couple of grape tomatoes. You really get the savory sweetness of the lemongrass, the earthiness of the mushroom, and light and delicate shrimp. A Thai classic that is light but gives a lot of flavor. As an entree, as if the soup, sushi roll, and takoyaki weren't enough: I ordered the Sautéed beef and ginger rice dish with snow peas and bell peppers. Huge portion! I only had a few bites and I was done: eyes bigger than stomach syndrome, but how could I come to a restaurant named Rice and NOT get a rice meal? Had to get a box, so, 2 more meals! Dessert offerings today were coconut or green tea ice cream. I had to get the coconut! Served in a little jar made for a cute presentation, but the whole thing had been sitting in a freezer and was difficult to scoop but it was tasty nonetheless! And sipping on the pineapple cocktail was giving a delicious piña colada experience! Staff was friendly, but could be a little more attentive. I had to ask for water, and it wasn't busy. My husband and I came here for lunch and we were seated fairly quickly. The seats were interesting as it outline a butt and legs which surprisingly made it pretty comfortable to sit in. We opted for the Crab Ragoon to start, Spicy Duck rice dish and Red Miso Ramen. All dishes came out hot and the chef personally placed it on the table. My only feedback was that the waitress was not attentive as it took some time to place our order nor was I given a knife to eat my duck. Luckily they had a place for me to sit. But I was sat easily and got really quick service. I had the pad thai which they were able to make gluten free and boy was it delicious. Rice is a mediocre Asian restaurant, serving what sounds like delectable meals that are actually bland, home-cooked, cheap and ordinary dishes. First, the service was rude. Rice does not accept reservations, so we simply showed up for dinner. Without proposing that we wait or be put on a waitlist, the hostess/waiter demanded that we sit at the bar. Even though we asked, she was stern and unapologetically rude (indistinguishable from takeout service). There are a lot of choices of mouthwatering ingredient combinations. Duck with lemongrass, drunken squid ink wok noodles, kao soi, etc. So many great choices! However, disappointingly, they were very underwhelming. It felt like a fast food experience and an absolute ripoff. Their Kao Soi is served with minimal amount of broth, three tiny pieces of chicken and stale dried noodles straight from a pack of instant ramen. The one redeeming quality is their basement store. Stopped by Rice on a whim for takeout last night. We ordered the pad Thai with chicken and Pad See Ew with beef. Both were delicious and the best thai food I've had in a long time. Pad See Ew usually has thick noodles and they used the thicker noodles in the pad Thai also. The noodles were delish and had a wonderful texture/sopped up all of the tasty goodness. Rice is a combination market and restaurant. The market downstairs is an awesome resource for Asian goods. There are groceries as well as prepared foods and dining ware. It's a perfect spot to get ingredients, a meal, or a gift! I especially like their made to order sushi option which is well priced and incredibly fresh. The roll options are limited to simple choices but the fish is so good it doesn't need a lot of other ingredients! The restaurant upstairs looks nice, but I've only taken out. This is an awesome Asian grocery store with fresh & reasonably priced ready made meals! The grocery store contained nearly every sauce I've ever searched the city for and a wide variety of noodles, rices, and ESPECIALLY sauces. The back of the store was much like a boutique, selling Asian cook books and cooking equipment.
