Umm wow. I'm extremely late to the game. What's crazy is it's just a couple of doors down from Virtual X Kitchen and Tacos a la Madre, so I've driven by it countless times. I've seen the name, but honestly I thought it was just a dispensary of sorts. Well I have been humbled. My sister is huge on crystals, essential oils, incense, and the like. When I went to NY most recently I was inspired and have started dabbling in certain crystals myself. When a ring broke from dancing too hard last week (literally) I looked up crystal shops and this place came up. And I was like... they have crystals?! So when I had free time, I made my way over there. A short 10 minutes from my house is this serene house with a waterwheel fountain and so many colorful plants. There's just a few parking spaces right outside, but there's more across the street. The porch itself is inviting too... and when you step inside, it smells like one of the shops my sister loves. I found myself just exploring through everything... crystals, body care, supplements, herbs, teas... even a library! And the prices... the prices are fantastic compared to what I've seen at other places! I found myself in awe at it all. They even have a rewards program! Announcement: I'm getting old y'all! I can feel when I don't treat my body right. I was chatting with a neighbor and she told me about a cool place to go. Smile Herb shop. The people here know their herbs, this place has been in existence since the 70's, they have trained Herbalists on staff and have been in the herb business for over 40 years. When I drove up I was thinking okay looks like a small flower nursery ran from in someone's home. So my sister and I went in and there was a room in the house for everything. + Teas of all kinds of course + Vitamins and supplements +bath and body health/beauty +incense, energy crystals, and aromatherapy +vitamins and supplements I wandered upstairs and I saw a bunch of chairs in a circle and I'm thinking like what are they hosting up here AA meetings?? But no, they have classes and workshops for meditation, herb education, and other things. I was really trying to not get overwhelmed, but I felt so much better when I heard the staff answering customers' questions in full detail. It's like going to a pharmacy and not needing a prescription so I took my small list of stuff to them and they got to pulling all kinds of teas. You can get bundles of teas for $9 or less, and they applied a 10% discount. There are mostly loose teas and so I ended up getting a tea brew basket for $5.49 you just place the tea in a little basket and pour your water over the basket and let your tea sit and brew for about 5 to 7 minutes. I bought THE BEST loose chai tea by Republic its strong and spicy just how I like chai! I also got a liver detox tea, anyone who loves a cocktail on a regular can benefit from this and I purchased The Herbal Lymph Symphony good for when the body shows signs of lymphatic congestion. FYI (according to staff) a combination of the Liver Detox and The Herbal Lymph Symphony are also good for promoting weight loss. I could go on and on, but they have prostate health tea for men, tea for anxiety and depression, sleep aid teas, fertility, menstrual cramps, high blood pressure and menopause concoctions, achy joints allergy teas, blood cleansing tea, and anything and everything else! Bad Attitude Tea-- SIKE I'm just joking, although you can ask, if you find out about this, let me know I need to purchase some birthday gifts! Trust me you either spend more than what you planned to spend or you start making a list of what you will purchase when you come back. What I like: The ingredients are listed clearly on the tea packing and on their website. The staff are so knowledgeable, some of the customers I noticed were regulars who appeared to pop in regularly. They also have clear instructions on how you prepare your teas, some need to be steeped longer than others, some require you to pour water over the tea, while others direct you to simmer the tea. Who knew?? Well now I do! And I can say that Smile Herb Shop is a Wonderful Place to stay young, happy, and healthy on the natural!! read more

From the outside, it doesn't look like they have as much inventory as they do. But if you step in, you won't be disappointed! I went to pick up a smoke blend, and they customized it for me and was so patient when explaining the benefits of each herb. I also ended up picking up some selenite and tigers eye, both quality crystals and reasonable priced. The people were friendly, and I was amazed to see how many products this small house had for purchase. A nice shop for herbal remedies. They're very well-informed; some of their staff had masters degrees in herbalism, which is nice (though it kind of makes me what a degree in herbalism can get you in life). They do sell some scientifically dubious products (though, to be fair, even drug stores often sell homeopathic things), but if you're an educated consumer, this is a good place to get your plants. Very friendly and helpful staff. Since the shelter-in-place I have continued to order the CJ's Sinus Clearing Anti-Allergy Tea and it arrives safely and quickly. This product has been wonderful during the Spring allergy season where I like to spend time at Brookside Gardens (Wheaton Regional Park) and bicycling in beautiful weather. I have not found any other herbal remedy as effective as this tea mixture for allergies and highly recommend it. Overwhelming! Magical! Big old creaky house chocked full of herbal goodies. Little rooms to peek into stuffed with herbs, teas, supplements, scarves, candles, books, natural beauty products, and more. Helpful attentive staff, but they aren't all up in your business if you just want to poke around for a long time. They sell plants, too. I spotted a starter pack of lacinato kale, which I haven't seen anywhere. Tempting...if only note everything I tried to grow died in an instant. Can't wait to go back when I have more time. I decided to go the homemade route for holiday gifts this year. I could have ordered supplies online, but isn't it better to go in person to see (and smell) if ingredients are fresh? I've made lip balm using shea butter, beeswax, and cocoa butter from Smile Herb Shop--everything seemed fresh, and the containers are self-serve, so you can get as much or as little as you need. Essential oils are in another room--they get pricey, but that's true everywhere, and they have lots of testers so you can smell what you're getting into. Lots of books, herbs, soaps, teas, etc that I didn't really investigate, but looked interesting. It might be tricky to find something specific you're looking for--everything is spread out in different rooms in what used to be a house. The salespeople were engaged and helpful. It's easy to get to, right off Berwyn Road. If it gets crowded, parking might be tricky in the small gravel lot, but it was fine when I went. read more

Just off Route 1 north of College Park, Smile Herb is located in an old two-story house, and is set up so that the rooms each have a particular type of item: one room for bulk herbs and teas, one for supplements, one for candles and other home decor, one for books, one for bath salts and potpourri, another for clothing. There is also incense and smudge sticks, jewelry, chocolates, cards, henna, and other body products. The owner, Tom, is a knowledgeable herbalist who sometimes offers classes. Another notable thing about Smile is the mixed crowd. Not just old white hippies, but college students, working class folks, and many African-American customers.
