I waited months to see an eye doctor and when I finally did and got my glasses the rx was not correct. I saw worse with them. I understand it could have been a mistake so I take them back and they tell me we can recheck your eyes but if the rx is the same then you owe $65. This is insane. What kind of business are you running? I will never go back.My daughter also had her eyes checked and she was slightly uncooperative and nervous and they just gave up and referred us out without even attempting to work with her. I had a very disappointing experience at Blue Oaks Eye Care and will not be returning. There was no attempt to build rapport, no effort to confirm the pronunciation of my name, no friendliness, and no sense that I was a valued patient. The entire visit felt cold, transactional, and dismissive. The only positive interaction was with the gentleman at the very end who checked me out -- he was kind and professional. During the exam, I was lectured for well over 10 minutes by Dr. Haq about my dry eyes, how often I wear contacts, and why I "should" switch from bi-weeklies to dailies. I shared my reasons for preferring bi-weeklies, but every response seemed to be met with a rebuttal. I understand the importance of eye health, but the way this information was delivered felt condescending and unnecessarily harsh. The assistant was also extremely robotic and a bit condescending, which only made the appointment more uncomfortable. On top of that, the optometrist repeatedly asked why my previous doctor had given me multiple prescriptions -- even after I clearly stated several times that I didn't know. The repeated questioning felt accusatory and completely unnecessary. Overall, I left feeling talked down to rather than cared for. Patients deserve respect, empathy, and professional communication -- none of which I experienced here. I will not be going back. read more

This office is unorganized and unprofessional. I brought my son in for his first experience with contact lenses. I paid for a training a session. The "training session" was right beside the front desk. My son, already nervous about the process, was made to practice with his contacts in front of numerous patients (coming in and out of the office) as well as the staff. Not surprisingly, he had a difficult time and was brought to tears on not one, but two occasions. Upon requesting a quiet area or room, I was told that that was not possible. I brought the supposed "training" to an end and requested a copy of his prescription, thinking it would be much easier to learn in the comfort of his own home versus their lobby. I was told that was not possible either. I will never bring my child, or myself, to this office again. Please don't trust them with your eye health, they are money driven. read more

So many options these days and it was a little confusing and overwhelming. Alex spent an hour with me helping me understand the options and what they mean. Giving 5 stars solely to even out the bad reviews, and can't really think of a reason to lower the rating. I was honestly shocked to read the other reviews, as my experience was rather pleasant. I haven't had an eye exam since high school (10+ years ago). I scheduled an appointment for a week out, as that was the earliest appointment, and was called quickly stating there was a cancellation and I could be seen that same day! I gladly accepted as I have been having headaches and would rather be seen sooner than later. Turns out, I need glasses. My first pair. I don't know the gals name (I will be updating the review later once I know) but I was slightly anxious in figuring out which frames to choose. I wasn't expecting to go in and need glasses, to be honest! I've been bragging about having 20/20 for years.. anyway, I tried on damn near every single pair of glasses, and the gal was kind enough to keep a stack for me of ones I liked and encouraged me to not worry about putting them back as she would happily organize it later. She was even handing me more and more and not rushing me in my process. When I thought I found the pair for me, she offered to "get a second opinion" from the rest of the staff to confirm my choice. Not that a second opinion is needed, but felt very supportive and girls girlie to me. As this was my first experience in adulthood getting my eyes checked, I can't compare it really, but the other recent reviews I have read definitely would've turned me away from selecting this location but I'm happy I did choose this place to get my exam done! Beware. Tracy quoted add-on of $160 for Hi Index material which I did not require based on my eye exam prescription. I provided my sphere -1.25 left eye and -1.75 right eye. There overall pricing was $300-$400 higher than all the rest of my quotes. I can only assume she gets a commission or bonus based on her sales numbers. The overall price for one pair was $1,003.20 compared to $600 from the place I purchased my glasses. I've been coming to Blue Oaks Eyecare for many years and I must say that this is a great business that really cares about its customers/patients. Dr. Trang and Dr. Weissenberg have been, and still are, absolutely wonderful. In fact, all the staff from check-in to check-out are always friendly, knowledgeable, and ready to help out with all patient needs. I especially like the fact that they are very knowledgeable with insurance and ready to explain all insurance co-pay, exceptions, etc. Their vast selection of eyeglass options and contacts are extensive. I am not of fan of insurance companies and it's nice that someone knows the facts and who to contact when there is a question. Their selection of eyeglasses and especially, the ability to purchase prescription and non-prescription Maui Jim glasses is great. I have long been a Maui Jim customer and it's nice to try them on and get sizing options. So, Blue Oaks is my #1 eyeglass and eye exam choice and Dr. Trang and Dr. Weissenberg are my first and only choices for my needs. Oh what a difference a couple years makes in the way this place is run. I was here two years ago and saw Dr. Weissenberg. The staff then was quite impressive, and Dr. Weissenberg was incredibly personable and professional. Fast forward to this year... Dr. Weissenberg was not there, so I was attended to by Dr. Trang. The staff seems to have all changed, or at least I did not recognize anyone. I was rushed through the exam process (the assistant was very kind I will say that). She asked me if I had any issues or concerns, to which I mentioned a simple eye irritation lately. Her response was that the doctor won't see me for that today, but I can make another appointment for the future.... say what? Why ask the question? and aren't I here to see the doctor about my eyes??? THAT set me off as just wanting to get another office fee. So, Dr. Trang comes in, and does a VERY quick review of what the assistant had tested me for. Said I need 2 new prescriptions (I have computer glasses and regular glasses) and a third one for sunglasses... Well, I already have transitions so I don't need sunglasses.. "Oh yes you do" she says... No thank you I will pass on that. She seemed annoyed at my response. Yet another scream in my head "UPSELL"... The doctor leaves the room, and a different assistant comes in and says she needs to dilate my eyes for the final test. She does, and then walks me out to the front "glasses sales counter" and proceeds to pull out several selections of glasses. I told her I am not going to purchase new frames, I want the new prescription in my current (rather expensive mind you) frames. "oh but you need to pick out sunglasses"... "no I am not purchasing sunglasses, thank you"... She hands me an quote of what my 2 sets of new lenses to be installed in my current frames will cost. I about fell off the chair, even with my premium VSP insurance, it was ridiculous. I told her, I want to think about this before spending that kind of money...So what does she do? She says, "ok, here is your prescription"... and sends me on my way. What part of this story is important to remember here? YES, the fact that she has just dilated my eyes and then sent me away, out into the midday sun mind you. No, eye shield or nothing. Just "bye bye go away"... She didn't even do the test for what my eyes were dilated for! I truly believe Dr. Trang has turned her practice into a cash grab business. And, just to finish my story out here. I went down to Stanton Optical, and they did the new lenses for my pricey frames, and I also got new frames for my reading glasses, all for half of what Blue Oaks quoted me. read more

Very disappointed about my experience with this office. They are not forthcoming about all their fees and customer service does not seem to be a priority. I tried 2x to opt out of a contact lens fitting since I wanted to keep wearing the same brand I've been wearing for years. I felt pressured to have a contact lens fitting even though I didn't think it was necessary. I wasn't given any choice about what brand to try. On the intake form the lens fitting fee was roughly $20-60 then I was told my lens fitting was $100. I tried to dispute it and they would not budge. I was in a vulnerable head space and felt forced to pay for a service I didn't even want and the price they charged was way over what their intake form included. I will be sharing this negative experience with other people and I will not be returning. read more

I'm not someone who goes to the eye doctor a lot and have never worn glasses or contacts before so I don't have a lot of experience with what's involved in an eye appointment. My primary concerns when coming here were how much I would be paying out of pocket with VSP insurance and if they would try to upsell me procedures or glasses that I don't really need. With regard to the out of pocket cost, I read about my benefits with VSP prior to this appointment so I had an expectation of what my portion would be. Some of the other reviews here mention "unexpected fees" so I was wondering what those might be. Turns out, there weren't any. I've come to the conclusion then that these reviews were written by people who don't understand their benefits. Dr. Kageyama was very knowledgeable and explained how the eye works and what's going on with my vision. After the exam (which revealed I could benefit from reading glasses), I was able to look at a variety of frames, different styles and brands, and it was explained very clearly how much it would cost with insurance depending on what I chose. I did not feel any pressure to pick anything more expensive. I'm happy to have found this place and would recommend it. read more

If i could i would leave 0 stars.. i had an eye exam back in august. They doctor was rude fast not nice. I picked out glasses while my eyes we're dilated. Coukdnt see what i was choosing. They never told me what my benifit cover. Next thing i know i payed 430 bucks for glasses. So i called them next day to cancel my order. I took me 3 days to explain my reason. Basically i was pressured into buying glasses and 400 is expensive. I finally got my refund. Fast forward i went to a new eye care place great place super nice. I was told im not eligible for glasses till august. I was like why. They told me blue oaks refunded my money but not my ok to get new glasses..so there preventing me from getting glasses. Definitely feel ripped off by this place. They aren't transparent with their fees AT ALL, but give a vague range. Once the visit is over then the Long list you asked for in the beginning comes and boy do they up charge! The Dr's are very difficult and dishonest for no reason. I am so disappointed with this place, last week I had my eye exam. (1) one of the assistants broke my current glasses when she clean them, and she comes back to the room and she said "I just broke your glasses these things happens".... Excuse me I use a 6+ prescription how you think I will see with no glasses. So they offered to glue them while I wait for my glasses. Of course the glasses weren't fixed, after 4 days the glass falls when I was walking and I cannot find it. I am with no glasses I CANNOT SEE, I call the office ask for my new glasses that I ordered which I was told they will expedite and I will get in one week. Then I was told I have to at least wait one more week. I CANNOT SEE. They didn't offer contacts or anything to fix this situation, other and a little discount for a 1K plus prescription glasses, and the cost is not the issue the issue is that i cannot see. I am waiting for my prescription to be email, because I wasn't given this on the exam day. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. (2) That wasn't the only issue, I signed and paid for my eyes to get dilated, same assistance that broke my glasses forgot the dilation, then I asked why if I am paying for the service I am not getting my eyes dilated. They go like oh we don't need it.... But you are charging me for this, finally they accept and dilated my eyes, which no sure if was the full exam. Worst experience with an optometrist. The front desk is for the most part nice except for a couple of women. The doctor.... unwelcoming, rude, and I felt rushed during my appointment. On top of that, whatever eye contact prescription / brand they provided for whatever reason I received the worst eye infection and have been scarred since. TLDR: 2 years ago and before, the office was great, professional, and respectful. Now there's a change in office. inexperienced, sales-y (nice-ish, but trying to make a sale) and pushy (optometrist) vibe. Less friendly. Still waiting on breakdown of cost. We've been here for for 4 years, but missed last year, because we never got a reminder and they couldn't schedule us a year out at that time. They've always been professional and fine at that time. It's been two years since I've seen them and the whole vibe has changed! It is such a shame. They were at least "normal," and the optometrist were still professional and decent. My husband went first and said they were fine, but were trying to get him to get new frames. He said it was, "ok." I went and from start it was just off. The person who settled me in was a literal high school graduate and seemed untrained and unsure. I was fine at this time, because we've all been new to a job and started out somewhere. She did break her "professional," attempt and said that something sucked, but nothing too earth shattering. Then the optometrist, who I've never seen before, came in and was at first seemed normal, but was pushing daily contacts. She said that if I cared about the health of my eyes, I would get dailies...When I mentioned the cost was too much, she sighed and asked which brand did I used. I told her the brand and she said I had to use the other one because it's better. After I refused the dailies she wasn't as "friendly" and was pushing glasses and that I should get glasses. I told her the prescription was the same and she said that my astigmitism changed. She said that my contacts won't have them, because it's too low to get a prescription. She kept trying on the lens to show the difference with the astigmatism, but I literally couldn't tell the difference. She finally tried it a few times not sure if she upped something or magnified something more and said, there that's why you NEED NEW glasses. I was just flustered at that time and just didn't say anything. She left and another person came in to help me pick out my glasses. She was friendly, but again there was this "sales-y" vibe going on. She kept saying that if I buy glasses from certain brands I would get a bigger discount off, nevermind mentioning it's the expensive brands. I didn't really like any of the glasses and that gave me time to think. I also wanted to call and discuss it with my husband, but because I had time to think I realized I really didn't need a new pair of glasses and declined it. The person kept pushing the sale. Oh think of it as you're treating yourself. I would just say I'd rather buy clothes than spend $500 on glasses I don't really need. The she'd respond, "what if that one breaks?" etc. This went on for a bit until I just said, I can't justify buying glasses. Somehow with insurance it still came up to $267! (I did get the non insurance covered retinal scan.) I asked for a breakdown of the cost and she said she would email it to me by the end of the day. I still haven't seen the breakdown and will contact them tomorrow. I'll also need to find out if they still need the get me the rebate to submit or if it was included. At that point I was thinking maybe I'm just too negative and still second guessing myself, but then I overhear the male personnel working away in the front corner say loudly, "These are my top sellers this month...." Then proceed to list the names and spoke to one person about how they weren't at the top. Maybe I misheard, but since every point of the visit just seems to point to this "sales-y" pushy vibe. I just decided I won't be going back next year. I've never had this experience before here and most people are different from the group two years ago. She discovered my retinal tear that my previous optometrist didn't find, and I will be forever grateful. She has the latest tech and an excellent selection of eyewear. I recently moved away and asked for a referral, she made every effort to find me a doctor where I was located and appreciated her effort. My family (husband, 2 daughters 11&13, & me) has been visiting this office for a couple of years. We have been pleased with the level of service from the doctors and staff. The office is clean, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic. I appreciate the office limits the number of people to only a small number of patients, they have you wash your hands before the eye exam, everybody wears a mask , and everything gets sanitized including the glass you try on. The office had I nice selection of frames to choice from and will order a different color for you to try on. My daughters have been happy with their glasses as well as my husband. Never have I ever had such a horrific experience with any business. I usually never write reviews unless it was outstanding or something completely awful or extremely misleading. All I ever need is good service with honorable people, don't expect a sliver from Blue Oaks Eyecare and Doc's team. They should not only be avoided for their outrageous pricing but more so their management and customer service! I ordered prescription reading glasses with an above average list of options i specked out: sleek high quality metal frames (not designer) + thinner glass lenses + blue light blocking, setting me back just over $750. The worst part came when I picked the glasses up to see the lens on the frames. I was so surprised they messed up and put the thickest lenses I've ever seen on such small frames. When i asked what happened to the thin ones I specifically ordered? They came up with two different stories; first they said "its not possible to make those lenses thin" (the magnification was not high and clearly was possible with my previous lenses), then after proving my point with other glasses in hand they instead changed up the argument thinking its my fault still and claimed that "sorry you didn't order them with thinner lenses". I was shocked and politely rejected all their claims as well as the glasses. I asked for a refund and they actually forced me to keep them and completely rejected my claims of what I specked for! AND GET THIS When i said "Okay, please write up a detailed statement for what I am asking to option out and that you guys can't do it so i could go to another place and get their opinion." THEY REJECTED, and told me they couldn't write up anything at all and dont want to. No care whatsoever for customers nor understand how to fix any problem. I've been coming here a few years. on the day of my actual appointment (they didn't tell me until i was there) there would be an additional fee of $45 for contact fitting. On top of the copay they are now charging for contact fitting because it takes longer. This is not because my insurance doesn't cover the exam, they decided to add extra fees for that. I have never heard of an eye clinic doing this. I got up and left the appointment. co pay, eye fitting and then purchasing of the contact, what is the point of insurance then?? HORRIBLE experience, from start to finish. Unprofessional team focused more on upselling add-on eye tests that are not individually tailored in the slightest, than on actually helping patients. Before even seeing the doctor I was prompted to sign up for multiple supplemental eye tests without any explanation as to how they are relevant/why I should take them. That's the first flag. Extremely pretentious attitude toward even the simplest questions, such as "Any insight as to why my Rx has gone up by 20% over just a 2 year period (1st time ever in my adult life)?" Answer- "No sure, probably just that you're getting older." This answer might be viable; however, I have a hard time believing that it is the ONLY possibility and that they have no ideas as to any other potential causes or suggestions on how to potentially mitigate this decline in my sight (especially given I'm only in my mid-late 20's). Warby Parker reached out to the Blue Oaks Eyecare office for a routine contact lens Rx update (a change in brand only, nothing to do with fit/sizing, etc.), to which their office eventually contacted me to say I was required to print out and sign a release form, and upon returning it they would be fine sending the Rx to Warby Parker. Given I don't own a printer (I had to go out and ask a friend to borrow their printer for this) and am no longer local to the area, I called their office to verify this was necessary, etc., to which they again said yes. A hassle for me yes, but rules are rules and I was happy to comply given they assured me that the Rx would be filled immediately afterward. After returning the said form, the Blue Oaks Eyecare office sent me a copy of the attachment that they sent to Warby Parker. Upon cursory inspection, I found that it was not an updated Scout Rx as they led me to believe (and that Warby Parker had specifically contacted them about), but actually, it was just another copy of the original Rx that I had already given to Warby Parker myself. When I responded to inquire about this, I was met with the reply: ---- "If you want to purchase Warby Parker Scout lenses, you have to get fitted through their doctors who have those lenses in office to fit you with." So despite both clear messaging from Warby Parker, and a live conversation with someone in their office, I went through a ton of extra effort only to find that it was all a BIG WASTE OF TIME over something that is easily preventable on their end. My recommendation to anyone considering going to Blue Oaks Eyecare? AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! read more

The doctor will charge you for a full exam when in reality she only spends 10 minutes with the patient on top of that she uses a high pitch of voice and is very impatient . Should have read the reviews prior to coming in here. They are there for a reason. Long story short, I was coming from a different doctor's office due to really bad experience with the front office (doctor from another place was great) but the lack of communication just really threw me off (along with other issues). Anyway, I never got my proper Rx due to said issue which prompt me to look for another provider. My husband was a pas client of blue oaks eye care and never had an issue so I went ahead and called and was answered right away (which is something the other office was lacking) so I told them my issue that I need a new updated prescription and that I was never able to finalize it with the old provider due to office issues. Anyway, I saw Dr. Trang and not only was she super direct (borderline rude) saying that due to my astigmatism, it will be very hard to get it as good or as clear as glasses (I've had contacts for 12 years) and while I admit that recently it had been more difficult to get it precise, I always get it correct at the end (I had to move providers due to relocation) anyway, after quickly looking at the notes provided by the assistant (prob from the machine reading) she came up with a prescription and I was told that with the correct prescription and without affecting the comfort, I need to go with dailies (I've had monthlies for 12 years). I was very hesitant because they didn't even have the right Rx in hand to let me try it but doctor Trang was insisting that this is the best I could do to my eyes. So I went ahead and ordered the ones she prescribed and lo and behold. They were not right. I was so pissed and I told them about it. The other trials I was sent home was 4 years expired and I even had to wait for that to arrive all the while trying to figure out how I can see better. When then new trials arrived, they still didn't sit well and when I called again to get a refitting to go back to my old ones, I was told I need to pay another 60 dollars. So I just said, no thanks. She was I insisting that the trials I had was the old pair I had when I specifically told her in the beginning that I had the biofinity before but were given the ultra for a trial (from the old provider but was never finalized). I can see, I can see! I had a great experience with Blue Oaks Eyecare. Doc was amazing, customer service(Clarissa?)...amazing. I am new to the "glasses club" so this was a new experience for me. I'll admit I was a little scared going in, but everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and didn't try to sell me something I didn't need. Made me more at ease at making the transition to glasses. As to other posts about not knowing about the contact lens fees; per request, I read the patient forms ahead of time and it clearly states why there are additional fees regarding contact lenses. I've been to Dr. Trang for years since she started the practice but the service has had its struggles. Since my previous complaint on yelp and talking to the office manager, we were able to resolve my disappointment and move forward with the concerns I addressed. I recently visited the Blue Oaks Eye Care Center. Dr. Trang gave the most thorough examination that I've ever taken. Dr. Trang and her staff are professional, thorough, caring, and answered all of my questions. I felt that we were the only patient, and that I won't go anywhere else for another eye exam. I would definitely recommend Blue Oaks Eye Care for anyone that wants a professional vision center to enhance their sight. read more

Terrible!!! I have been going here for years and I promise me nor my family will ever be going back (anybody I run into i will advise them not to go here). I tried to order Halloween contacts online and they denied it. Even thought I have a valid prescription. They said they denied it because I haven't personally been fitted for these particular contacts. If they don't carry them and won't allow me to order them, how can they do a fitting? So basically what they are saying is a patient doesn't have the right to order the lenses of their choice. You are only allowed to order what they dictate you can order. What a joke!!! Time to find a new optometrist immediately. If you ever want to order Halloween or special effects lenses stay a million miles away from this place. I will be filing formal complaints against them. In response to Blue Oaks 10-15-18 I had chosen FDA approved Halloween lenses. You are only proving my point anybody who wants cosmetics lenses needs to stay a million miles away from your business. I already have an appointment with my prior eye care provider to order the Halloween lenses. Big mistake leaving them to go to your business in the first place. I certainly won't be making that mistake again. Good riddance. read more

The worst experience my wife has ever had. Worst staff and had no customer service . The manager did not even care once we told him that we will put a bad review. They broke my wife's glasses and refused to fix it. What on earth an eye care business will do that to their customers! Pls don't use them. They only care about your money and nothing else. BBB will hear from us too. They are taking advantage of the pandemic and ripping people off. And this manager should not be a manger. read more
