Recently had lunch at Union Jack. I'm a stickler for clean windows in every establishment. Clean…read morethe windows...please! That being said, the fish and chips served to me looked just like the picture on the menu...2 thumps up for that. The fish without the batter was bland to the taste but cooked perfectly. The chips were not for me. I prefer thinner cut fries but I'm told they are authentic to what you can expect in the UK. The mayo/white sauce that came with the meal needs work...more sweet and sour ingredients maybe. Servers were professional and responsive. Food is priced appropriately. I will return to try other items on the menu...when I see the windows have been cleaned . I recommend giving Union Jack a try.

Tuned into a sports channel, beer on tap and a best of British menu (plus a huge poster of a Queen Elizabeth with a face of approval watching over you) is just a tip of the whole experience. Would have wanted to try their other curry dishes as their chef is Indian! Mental note to go back on a weekend to try their Indian buffet at 600+ per head. I chose the beef tikka masala off the British menu. They serve two versions, the former having the curry separate from the grilled meat plus a poppadum and the Indian version curry-style. Tasted amazing- right level of heat and creaminess! The beef had a nice char and spice to it but was overcooked and slightly under seasoned. Had a hard time cutting through. Shepherds Pie came straight out of the oven hot and meaty. Everything was washed nicely with a fresh pint of draft beer at Php 100!

I'm writing this review quickly as I am having the saddest tasting squash soup I've ever tried in my life. The description reads Organic Squash: finished with saffron, infamous, dairy-free and divine. It should just read: infamously insufficient and mediocre. I'm very disappointed to spend Php220++ for this. The bread on the side is the nicest thing about it. The Cool Cesar salad for Php290++ is just not worth it. Description reads: romaine, maple bacon, with grana Padano shavings, and 63 degree sous vide egg. First of all, the bacon was just crumbs of sad Bac-o looking bits (you remember those artificial bacon you can buy in the grocery? Those actually taste better) and the sous vide egg they proudly put was just half the egg and overcooked(basically hard boiled). This is the perfect example of false advertising. Using fancy words and cooking terms to lure the customer and delivering a very substandard dish. Come on! The Seared tuna Niçoise Php350++ is nothing you can't make at home for even less than what they charge... Biodynamic greens, furikake crust, kalamata olives, tomatoes and hard boiled egg. Again, under delivered with just Lolo rosso leaves, one or two quail eggs and black olives that I'm sure aren't kalamata. They are the ones you can buy in the bottle or can...in fairness only the mini seared tuna was seated nicely but that is all.. So I'm not even going to bother trying anything else. If you can't even get the appetizers right, there's not enough enthusiasm for anything else on the menu. I also told the waitress the soup was bland and didn't taste good, she just giggled. I'm wondering what happened to Lulu.. This is my first bad review and I really have no problem writing it. I'm usually nicer but this is a joke. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If you're looking for better value for money, you're better off going somewhere else nearby.. Like even-Subway-will-deliver-to-you-what's-on-the-menu kind of SERIOUSLY!

Summary Fair prices…read morefor great food. Cuisine is more British than anything else but there is some fusion involved. Plating is attractive and overall cuisine is fine dining but the atmosphere is more casual. Restaurant The restaurant itself is split into the main dining area and kitchen and then split off and accessible via glass door is the bar area. The bar area also has tables and supports the menu of the main restaurant. Incidentally the semi-coed bathroom (which can lead to a little awkwardness) is located in the bar section. The ambiance in the restaurant section is quiet casual and the decor is modern Western with the front of the restaurant a giant window. The bar section is a little cramped but it rarely gets full so you can usually find a seat for your party. Its a pretty average bar with the scene being expat and older. I prefer other bars in the neighborhood myself, but if I am entertaining an older ex-pat group, this is one of my go tos for a casual drink these days. My only negative is I hate their knives. They are these stand on their edge style that keep falling over and can't be laid on its side. Food I eat here less than frequently but more than "once in a while". I am a big fan of their wellington but most items on the menu are above average to really good. I will say nothing on the menu knocks my socks off, but the wellington comes close. Quantity is large but not too large. I've been told that the head chef used to be the head chef at the Marriott in London, however my visiting British friend declared the fish and chips "not good enough" earlier this year (for what that is worth). I personally am not British and hate fish and chips so I can't judge myself. Plating of all dishes is attractive and appetizing. Price For this neighborhood and given the food quality, this restaurant is really fairly priced. One of the better values in Salcedo Village for fine dining overall. Overall Highly recommend. Probably nothing will knock your socks off, but you will never leave this restaurant unsatisfied with the food and you will always get value for your money.

The parking lot is still muddy especially when it rains since it's still made out of dirt. They have an attendant directing you where to park that also helps you get back into Emilio Aguinaldo Highway by stopping the On coming cars and safely guiding you out but we do suggest tipping them for this seeevice at least P20. There is a gift shop attached to a Korean Massage place to the right, so you want to go to your left. The first establishment is their cafe and you want to keep walking under the awnings to the Korean BBQ Grill It Yourself restaurant. Don't expect anything fancy inside as it will detract from the quality of the vegetables and food inside. In America, we are used to marinated Korean bbq in a red sauce when we go out. Over here, it is more traditionally cut meat seasoned with salt and pepper grilled to your liking. What's impressive are their vegetable side dishes. Wow! Vegetables are superior quality grown and obtained in their own gardens! You can go outside and buy some to go when you're done eating as well. They're beautiful and delicious adding to such a wonderful dining experience! The style of how you eat it heree is more BBQ wraps style. They give you a generous selection of varying lettuce that you dress with a bagoong Sauce then some pickled side vegetable dishes then meat you've grilled them wrap it and eat it. You can also order rice which is perfectly made as well. I was impressed with the quality of food served here! It's fun to grill your own meat but not all meat is grilled. Our beef bulgolgi was served to us already cooked with a lot of deliscious flavorful sauce and fresh vegetables. For dessert, they have a cooler by the entrance where you can select from a variety of Korean popsicles and ice creams. We noticed a lot of male Korean businessmen eating here as well as families so you know it's good! They won't let you take home the left over side dishes nor lettuces so we wondered what they did with them... wash it and re-serve it? Ewww I hope not! (I took off a star for that) Stop by and check it out when you're in town! You'll be happy and full when you u do!

Once the waitstaff understood that we were there to eat our hearts out, they kept the bottomless accouterments coming! This is the reason why meat tastes better and tastier. We are glad to have a host family while I'm visiting the Philippines who knows good food, like honest to goodness must places to eat. One day, we were brought to this place right in the heart of Manila. The place might be small but the dining experience was gigantic. We enjoyed an AYCE for Php 580 with unlimited choices of pork and beef. The choices were so many that we just opted to get all beef. So many also were the banchans. When the server brought them out and laid in our table, there was no space left uncovered with these tiny plates and bowls of side dishes. Aside from that, we also requested for the steamed egg and tofu soup. Best part of the meal? You don't do the grilling because the server cooks all the meat for you. Ha! That's nothing unheard of here in the US. Overall, excellent service not just by the server but the entire staff. Definitely worth more than the money you pay for. I will definitely come back on my next trip to the Philippines.
