I love the blue ridge mountains. It's a beautiful place to visit and lots to do, especially in the warmer months. We've gone many times over the years. I've even done the blue ridge turkey trot. If you mention Blue Ridge Mountain in the Atlanta, Ga area most people refer to the town of Blue Ridge and its surrounding areas. From what I understand Blue Ridge is a part of what is known as the greater Appalachian Mountain Range that spans from Georgia all the way up the coast to Pennsylvania... From Atlanta it's about 250 miles on up here if you live in the downtown area. It's a popular tourist area with rental cabins and loads of gift shops. I've been coming up here since I was kid. It's a popular destination in the fall for bus load of kids from school or various youth groups to come up here to visit the apple orchards. They also have lots of fall activities such as hay rides, pumpkin patch, corn maze and of course bonfire and ghost stories!) It's a lot of fun to get out here away from all high tech activities and just enjoy the fresh air and talk to the locals. The area is known for good fudge, coffee and BBQ. Everywhere you go there is a BBQ place and all the shop owners are super approachable and friendly to tourists because most of the people that come in are tourists.... We recently took a train trip from Delano to Copperhill/McCaysville. While in McCaysville, we had lunch and afterwards stopped by Blue Ridge Mountain Outfitters to do some shopping. With the help of a very nice sales lady, my son found the perfect item he was looking for. As we hurried to catch the train, he realized that he had left his cap at the store. There was not enough time to go back. This cap was a gift from a special person and meant a lot to my son. I called the manager at the Blue Ridge location, and she graciously agreed to mail the cap to our home address. We are very touched and grateful for this. I can highly recommend this store for customer friendliness and a great selection of clothing. read more

If you don't like that the store doesn't force the mask policy then just wear yours or don't walk in ‍ I'm visiting from Florida and have been searching heavily for new hiking boots. The owner was very helpful and informative. He had no issue with me trying on several pairs in different sizes till I found the perfect pair. If I could give 0 stars I would. The staff here is so rude, we had $300 worth of merchandise in our hands and put it down and walked out because they scolded my daughter for trying on a jacket. How are you supposed to purchase items if you can't try them on? Horrible, horrible, horrible. They snatch items from your hands to refold them "perfect" and if you ask the price of something, watch out, staff members will snap at you. Go next door to Hucks! They are the nicest people ever!! When this place closes down from lack of sales I hope the owner takes a long hard look in the mirror. You can't treat customers like garbage and think they will come back. Too bad there isn't a zero or half star rating on Yelp. My wife bought a hat for me that wasn't a style that I wear and insisted I return it for one I liked, so I went. The hat was not even tried on, in the bag with receipt from previous day, in perfectly new condition. I was born and raised in Ellijay and love my hometown, especially the downtown area with many memories here, which is why the owner's disposition was so shocking. I've NEVER had a stranger, much less a local business owner talk to me the way that this 'lady' did. She came in and abruptly said 'no returns or exchanges, no exceptions'. I let her know I hadn't even tried it on and only wanted to exchange it for a different style, happy to pay any difference. 'Nope' she says. 'I've been in business 14 years and I'm not changing my rules for anyone, especially not you, feel free to show yourself out if you don't like it'. I laughed. So shocking was her way it was truly comical. I said 'where are you from?' 'You are an extremely rude person and I can't believe you would talk to a customer this way'. 'Leave' she said. 'There's the door, do not come back'. I vowed I wouldn't and never will, not even to loot and pillage. Well... Do not shop here. I would give this zero stars if I could. They are extremely rude and unprofessional. As I was leaving, I was condescended to and asked if I was "seriously going to leave it that way?" (Referring to me not zipping up a jacket I had tried on). After her being extremely rude to a potential customer, I promptly left and informed her that I will not be shopping here again. She responded with, "Get out of my store, and don't ever come back!" An extreme over-reaction to a single unzipped jacket. For someone who is in the business of retail and customer service, you probably shouldn't be acting that way to customers. As I have seen from other reviews, this is commonplace at this business. Needless to say, the horrible experience I had has caused me to never come again. DO NOT shop here, it's not worth the time or energy. EDITED TO PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION: The only thing that was tried on were jackets, and everything was put back on hangers the way they were found, except for one unzipped jacket. Since everything that was touched were on hangers, there was no "destroying neatly-folded merchandise displays and discarding tried-on items to the floor", as the owner responded on Google reviews. No displays were touched, no items that were folded were touched; only a couple jackets were tried on and then returned to their hangers and their original locations. This further shows the owner's lack of ability in observation and running a good business. Seems as though they must not know that they work in retail and that sometimes jackets might not be zipped back all the way on hangers. Instead of scolding adults and customers like children, maybe put more time into adjusting your behavior and being more personable and welcoming. Maybe this business should take some time to think about the numerous negative reviews on this site and others and realize there is a pattern of behavior here. Do not under any circumstances come to this store. The owner and staff are incredibly rude. I personally witnessed the owner's shocking behavior toward other customers. They were screaming at customers because a jacket was hung on a hanger in the correct place... unzipped. After the owner was informed that they would be losing our business, she screamed at us to never come back. After this traumatic retail experience we were chatting about it at another boutique and the staff there were laughing about it. Apparently the owner of this store is quite well known in Blueridge for her outrageous antics toward potential customers. Never set foot in here. Absolutely never stepping foot in this store again. I was initially thrilled at the prospect of browsing through some quality apparel like North Face and Patagonia, but I quickly realized that this is NOT the place to do so. I am absolutely appalled at how rude the owner (and some employees) of this store are. I was looking at some beanies with a friend and I wondered aloud if the beanies were adult sized or child sized. I took one off the shelf and searched for a size, and I discovered it was for newborns. I turned to my friend and casually joked that it didn't look like a newborn beanie, and it would probably fit my head if I tried it on. The owner (who was staring at us like a hawk) immediately snapped, "Don't put that on your head. No baby would ever want to wear that after you wore it." I was shocked and honestly kind of repulsed that she would say something like that. On TOP OF THAT, one of my friends was looking at some jackets while gently leaning on a wooden table display. The owner barked at him from across the store, "Don't lean on that!!" She has such a bad attitude. And if that's not enough, here's the absolute zinger. My friends and I were getting ready to walk out of the store because we felt so uncomfortable. Then, the owner turns to us and basically kicks us out of the store, even though none of us were planning on staying there any longer. She says sarcastically, "This is the new norm. We're setting rules in here." My friends and I were literally speechless because she was being so mean to us and we had done nothing wrong. She also went on to say that we looked "sketchy" and that we might be stealing. One employee even asked to see what was in my hands and it was my OWN HAT. We left feeling extremely bothered by her comments and her terrible attitude. My friend called his mother and let her know how rude the lady was to let her know ahead of time since his mother owns a cabin up in Blue Ridge and comes up often. His mother was appalled by our story and called the shop to try and reason with the owner. The owner SCREAMED at her and refused to be rational. All in all, I am extremely disappointed in the employees, owner, and service of this store. I usually never write reviews, especially not this long, but this just had to be said. Mostly clothing, shoes, outdoor gear and active sport wear (and by "active" I mean serious hiking/camping/rafting and the like). Store is located in old (and by old, I mean very quaint; very walkable; very enjoyable) downtown Main Street of Blue Ridge, GA. NOTE: downtown Blue Ridge is NOT on the main Highway 76; make the effort to locate Main Street, a couple of blocks South of Highway 76. Overall it will be highly enjoyable and worth a visit (can be crowded on weekends but adequate street and nearby parking always seems abundant). As for Blue Ridge Mountain Outfitters: excellent, top-notch, high-quality selections in a clean well laid-out, well-lit environment. Excellent size availability and overall selection of products. The range of products is great: from shoes, to tee-shirts, to sunglasses to more serious gear. Prices are just what I would expect for the high quality merchandise. Not too high; just about right. As for the staff: just all-around excellent. Friendly, personable, approachable and excited about their products. Their enthusiasm is contagious and they obviously enjoy their work environment (and congrats apparently go to Linda and Jason, the owners, for the dynamic workplace they've created). And PLEASE trust me on this: if a staff member makes a recommendation for your needs: LISTEN to them. I wound up with the best pair of hiking shoes I've ever had in my life (the "Montrail Masochist"; the name aside, this particular model might not be right for you but it was for me). And my overall point is, the employee recommended it for MY needs and it's simply the best footwear recommendation I've ever received. This store is highly recommended as are the staff. And, I'll say it again: if they make a recommendation for your specific needs, listen to them. They KNOW what they are talking about. read more

I've visited this store a few times. With the recent cold snap, I figured it was time to treat myself to a high end North Face Jacket. As I was trying on several $280 jackets for size and fit, I was harassed by a middle age female staff member on how I hung up the jackets I was trying on. This woman was eyeballing me the entire time I was trying on these 3 jackets, No offers to help, no offer to assist with a purchase, no want to help code a sale, no service, just a huff that she had to put the jackets back in perfect order leaving me and my dad speechless and feeling like idiots for even walking in. I'm 43 years old and have never seen this in a retail establishment. If this woman was my employee, I'd terminate her on the spot. read more

Upon walking in the store I was pleasantly surprised by the selection of outdoor equipment and clothing, however the attitude of the store owner and employee was quickly noticed. I was looking around at the merchandise and was told that I "was making a mess and that he would have to refold all of the clothing because cocktail hour was coming". I found this appalling due to the fact there was still an hour left until close and that we were paying customers. Went into the store to inquire about a job and the owner was with a customer so my friend and we decided to just look around while she was with customers. Once she was done we continued to walk around to try and find her. She was nowhere to be seen so we continued browsing around the store. Finally, we went and stood next to the check out desk hoping that she might show up. Eventually she did so we asked if they were hiring and she quickly told us no and even if they were she still would not hire us as we came in the store and "giggled obnoxiously, didn't have resumes, and because we seemed flakey" she also told us that we should have came straight to her to ask but that's kind of difficult if you are trying to find someone who works there to actually ask. Last I checked you don't need to bring in a resume if you aren't even sure if a place is hiring. Over all this woman was incredibly and unnecessarily rude and it seems as if this has been an issue with many other customers. I would not recommend this store solely based on the rudeness of who I understand is the owner of the store. Would give zero stars if I could read more

I'd like to extend a HUGE thank you to the older heavy-set woman who was working the store today. She did me a huge favor and reminded me that I shouldn't be wasting my money at this store. After neglecting to greet us in anyway or ask if we needed any help, me and my boyfriend roamed the store to find some matching NorthFace jackets to purchase. We headed to the downstairs section of the store when suddenly the heavy-set woman stared at us out of all the people in the room from the top of the stairs very suspiciously. My boyfriend and I got very uncomfortable and left without looking any further. I'd like to add that I am an Asian woman and my boyfriend is a Hispanic man in our mid 20's and that we were not carrying any large bags to be able to even steal anything. As an added bonus, while we were walking out, the younger woman was also staring at us as we left. I guess the only thing I feel sorry for is the fact that this place can't even afford security tags, so they have to racially profile customers as suspected thieves. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your time here. You're better off going to an outlet on the way home then to spend any of your money here. read more

I physically patronized this store in Blue Ridge and purchased two items totaling over $100. I love to shop at high end hiking stores and do so a lot but this one seemed to be more interested in converting their customers to their specific religion - which is clearly Christian! The music playing was praising Jesus and I think there were more books on the same than on hiking. The latter being the business their in BTW. Of course, people are free to believe and worship what they want to or not but they should not push their beliefs on the consumers of the business. They should be accepting of all people - non religious and people of other religions. If you think this isn't a problem then how would you feel if it were a religion that you did not agree with? Having gone against my better judgement, I spent money there anyway. I went back to return one of the items 24 hrs later and they would not refund my money even though their website says they do. I guess they treat you more fair when you don't bother to visit their store. How Christian! read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME: My son and his friends had the same type of experience as Chrissy A. from 1/28/2017. On 12-19-2017 my son and his friends who love to hike and just overall enjoy the outdoors, visited this store. From the time they entered the store, the owner stared them down and even made the comment to my son's friend who was holding a smaller size beanie possibly meant for a baby, "no baby would want to wear that since you touched it" hmmmm...is this perhaps because her skin was a little darker than the owners? After she made a couple addtl. comments they proceeded to leave and the owner followed them out and told them how sketchy they looked. I made a phone call to try and reason with her because my husband and I have a cabin in the area and have visited the store several times with my son. The phone call started off with the clerk stating (as she handed the phone to the owner) "awwww they told their mommy on you." She would not allow me to even speak, she screamed at the top of her lungs that she had been dealing with theft all day, they looked sketchy, and that I do not know my own kids. WOW! Sounds like maybe its time for some one to retire or pass along the business to someone who has some decent customer service skills. read more
