Starting w/ the rubber ground and astroturf, wih some give, it's less likely to have an injury. They have lots of things for "little's" to do, including interactive games for even the smallest of kids. There's the typical swing sets, slides, and two versions of merry-go-rounds, that are WAY safer than what most of us grew up with! The two ziplines are pretty cool, and toddler + accessable! This sprawling park has paved trails with inner and outer loops spanning about three miles, plus loads of other amenities, including tennis courts, volleyball nets, a catch-and-release fishing pond, gazebos, and the well-crafted Eureka playground. There were already dozens of joggers, dog walkers, and parents with toddlers out and about at South Lakes by late Saturday morning in January, when the temperature had just nudged up to 50 degrees. Its convenient and safe, and I plan to be back often.

Merry Christmas! Didn't want to waste the day by staying secluded at the apartment all day. I…read morewanted to go hiking and to enjoy a cigar next to a campfire. All accomplished...woohoo! The only drawback is I had to rent a campsite for the day in order to get a fire blazing. Kind of sucked since I wasn't planning on spending the night. Oh well! It was all still worth it as I supported nature and TPWD. The hiking trails were challenging and invigorating. Thankfully they were also very clearly marked. They were a challenge with all the natural rock and rock cliffs. Penitentiary Hollow was the main attraction of the hike. Wow, Lake Mineral Wells rocks with awesomeness! Please camp here!

We enjoyed a delicious BBQ by the water while taking in the beautiful views. The park is peaceful, well maintained, and perfect for spending quality time with family. There are plenty of picnic areas, fishing spots, and space to relax. We made wonderful memories together and will definitely be coming back. No ATM's etc. There was a metal box it seemed, but I wouldn't deposit any cash into that. They need a better means of collecting the $7. maybe at the entrance? Maybe they are working on that. (smile) Overall, it was a great experience and I did catch some buffalo fish. My neighbors caught a nice channel catfish using cut bait.
