The only drawback is I had to rent a campsite for the day in order to get a fire blazing. Kind of sucked since I wasn't planning on spending the night. Oh well! It was all still worth it as I supported nature and TPWD. The hiking trails were challenging and invigorating. Thankfully they were also very clearly marked. They were a challenge with all the natural rock and rock cliffs. Penitentiary Hollow was the main attraction of the hike. Wow, Lake Mineral Wells rocks with awesomeness! Please camp here!

It's out and back or I just haven't made the loop yet. Moderate traffic during week and busy on weekend. Very scenic and well maintained with plenty of shaded areas for picnic or rest. My friend and I enjoyed walking the overlook trail, including seeing the views of the lake. The weather was sunny and breezy and we got a good workout. I like that they don't allow dogs here to preserve their wildlife. We saw a couple of deer on our walk which was lovely. We look forward to our next visit to Eagle Mountain Park.

This makes for a great hiking experience. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge lover of dogs, but I love that this park is working to preserve the nature, plus some of the trails are steep and it would be heinous to make your dog venture up and down some of these more aggressive slopes. Nonetheless, I still saw two people bring their dogs out... some people simply have no regard for guidelines to protect the nature and not create an undue burden on your dog. Sigh. This is truly one of the best places in DFW if you are serious about hiking. There is a 500 feet elevation gain on the trail by the lake and this makes for great views and an easy way to get your heart rate up. There is ample parking and admission to the park is free. The only downside I would mention is the only restroom facilities are two port-o-potties and they were disgusting. One was out of toilet paper and there are no sinks to wash up. I don't know why people feel the need to make a bad situation worse by urinating all over the seat and trashing the facilities. Other than that, Eagle Mountain Park is a great choice for a semi-challenging hike site in DFW. The views are also a great reward for your efforts!

It had been mowed.(you can tell. Didn't have to worry about running upon a snake or some critter. I did not see where to pay the $7 though, so I decided to see if I could find it online. No ATM's etc. There was a metal box it seemed, but I wouldn't deposit any cash into that. They need a better means of collecting the $7. maybe at the entrance? Maybe they are working on that. (smile) Overall, it was a great experience and I did catch some buffalo fish. My neighbors caught a nice channel catfish using cut bait.

This is an expansive, beautiful park. There are baseball fields, soccer fields, football fields,…read moretwo playgrounds, fishing ponds, and trails. We have not had a chance to walk the trails yet, so I will have to update my review once we do. In regards to the playgrounds, one is a small little structure near the baseball fields and the other is a large, spread out structure that can be accessed through the second entrance into the park (NOT S Field Dr.). The playground has a small fence that runs nearly fully around it, with openings for entering and exiting. There is plenty to do, including lots of "spinney things" that my kids love. The design of the structure itself is top notch. Bark bottom. Benches are situated within the fence, circling the playground or parents can sit under the covered pavilion behind the playground. The park is beautiful and the playground is fun, but there are two negatives: 1. Lack of shade 2. Bathrooms far away from playground The play structure has limited shade covering the slide areas, which probably help to keep the equipment from getting burning hot, but there is no shade otherwise. I hope the trees they planted around the playground will grow into massive shade trees, but for now they aren't doing a thing. The bathroom is far from the playground. It's a long walk for little legs, and some parents might not feel comfortable leaving their little kids on the playground for a quick run to the bathroom, because it's not really that quick. Also, when I went, there were allllllll kinds of cicadas in the bathroom: swimming in the toilet and crawling all over the sinks. LOTS. I haven't lived in Texas long and am new to Cicadas, so I can't say if this is a sign of poor sanitation or just par for the course, but I thought it was worth noting.

It's enough space for two boats to launch at the same time but people aren't always considerate and don't leave enough room which means someone has to wait. Clean lake - good parking. Such a convenient area for us. They are practically down the street from us so we can even bring the boat out after work on week days for a little fun. We have a pass and we plan on using it and buying another one next year.
