Loved this FREE event at a gorgeous North Liberty park. Recognized some familiar names on the vending and music lineups and figured I'd make the drive from Marion to support my friends. I knew it was a longstanding community event, but didn't realize the scope of production that goes into it. The stage is MASSIVE and they had some really cool artists performing throughout the day. There was plenty of room to set up a blanket or chair, sip your beer, and enjoy the music. (It did start to fill up quickly in anticipation of the last two acts, so grab your spot early!) There were stations with fans blowing cool mists, free ice water tanks, and a few places to get out of the sun. The Blues & BBQ sign is a great photo opp. In addition to the beer tent by the stage, there were about ten vendors or so offering a variety of sips and bites. A little something for everyone, including multiple bbq options, tacos, shaved ice, and ice cream. I know the beer tent is a big factor in keeping this free, so it would be great if there was more than one non-alch option (and ideally root beer wouldn't be the same price as a beer - say $4 or $5 instead of $7). All in all, really great community event. I heard a rumor the park is being renovated to add shade and other amenities, so next year there will not be a festival. Fun event and free for everyone! Had great weather this year that made it comfortable to enjoy the shows and food a little bit more. All musical acts were awesome and were so fun to listen to in front of the stage or out about the park. Inflatables and other park equipment for kids to climb and a good amount of shaded seating for everyone to enjoy. The food truck options keep growing so anyone can find something they like. I like to go sometime earlier in the day and then come back later to hear the final show, all while trying some good brisket or pulled pork. read more

What a great event! This was are first year attending North Liberty's Blues and Barbecue and it did not disappoint. We decided to bike to the event and we could smell the delicious barbecue as we rode in. They immediately directed us to the bike racks and there was plenty of space to lock up our wheels. There were plenty of food options to choose from and things for to keep kids entertained for those with kiddos. We set up our chairs, grabbed a local brew and enjoyed the great weather and the blues tunes that filled the park. This was a great event and it being free just made it that much better. Great way to spend a nice sunny Saturday. We can't wait to come back next year. read more

So... wasn't sure how to rate this event. In my opinion it is only worth going if the weather is nice. I just don't like blues that much, and the BBQ is good but pricey if you're really hungry. It adds up quick to get little tastes here and there. It's kind of a fun thing to go to just because it exists and it's nice to have community events. It is absolutely worth it if you have small kids. Tons of free jumpy houses and craft booths and activities for kids. But again, if it's hot, there is no shade and no seating. Tables by the food are cocktail tables. And don't be stupid like me and bike there 6 months pregnant in 90 degree weather. But if you love blues, then it's worth it. read more

This free event is the biggest festival in North Liberty all year and one of the best in the area. There are loads of food trucks, a craft beer tent, and lots of great music. The weather was perfect this year and it felt great under the shade of the beer tent. Everything is really well organized and there are a lot of parking spots for cars or bikes. Bring a tent, blanket, or folding chair and camp out all day with some brews, blues, and yummy BBQ. read more

This is a really fun festival every summer in North Liberty. The Iowa Craft Beer tent is there and is always a big hit and relatively fair priced. There are a lot of food truck options, which is great! Last summer, I had the best corn dog of my life and a great funnel cake. read more

They had three acres of the most beautiful variety of sunflowers! It's so fun because they hand you some cutters, and you get to go out and pick your favorites and take them home. If sunflowers aren't your thing, but Fall sounds more your speed then PLEASE go there for their Fall Festival. We went two years ago (last year was rained out), and fully plan on going this year as well. It's so much fun with food trucks, vendors, etc If you miss the Fall Festival that's ok! Their corn maze is open for awhile so you still have time for fun activities. I've also done the zombie paintball and holy smokes! In the fall there's games, food/drinks, pumpkin patch picking, a market and of course, the corn maze. In the winter Colony Acres offers fresh-cut trees and Santa. I've only event ventured here during the fall-- tickets are $11-16. (*Pro Tip: order online to save a few bucks a ticket.*) My kids adored the zip line, slides, train ride, bouncy pad and corn maze. We typically don't get pumpkins here but there's a wide selection of those-- mums, corn stalks, hay bales and more. The farm is closed Mondays and Tuesdays during the fall. It allows dogs! There's plenty of parking. Staff is uber friendly. Stop by.

Wow. 4 adults, a 6yo and 3yo checked this place out on a Friday morning around 11am with our friends who were visiting from Indianapolis (Indianapolis has one of the best if not the best children's museum in the county, so expectations were high). Upon entering the boys got their photo taken with Iron Man and then we went to pay the admission fee. The museum is still strongly encouraging mask wearing, but mosts guests weren't. I suspect it will be mandatory again in the future. There are so many fun, interactive things for the kiddos here: ambulance, Dr.'s Office, Post Office, Bank, Market, Pizzeria, recording studio, instruments, tree hours, airplanes, giant slide, my personal favorite the "Cabinets of Curiosities" that go from letters A-Z located on the walls of the 2nd floor. You could spend hours here. I definitely recommend avoiding peak times, or times when daycares and school groups are in attendance. We had to wait around to sample a few things because it was just so crowded. Museum is located right across from the ice rink and not far from the carousel. You could definitely make a morning and afternoon out of it. A must-see if you have younger kids in your life!

So glad we saw the signs this place was amazing it was just what our 2 year olds need to burn off some energy after 2ish hours in the car with many more to go. It was surprisingly large, has so many different rooms with different themes for the kids to explore. We let the kids play for close to 2 hours than grabbed food at the mall food court and went back on our way.

Those theaters rarely take any kind of risk with a small movie that may or may not be the next Hollywood blockbuster. Honestly, they really are a blockbuster hit but are often really good movies that have a voice which should be heard. That is where Film Scene comes in. It fills the void created by monstrous movie theaters which are more concerned with the quality of their heated reclining seats as opposed to the quality of the movie. Now, you should know, when you go to see a movie at this theater, do not expect super comfortable seats. There are some good seats in the back of the theater but the closer you get to the screen, the worse they are, so be sure you get there early. The concession stand is reasonably priced with a good selection of candy, decent popcorn, and a wonderful selection of beer. I would also highly recommend the rooftop viewing of any movie they show. It is really awesome up there. Get some tickets, grab some popcorn, twizzlers, a cold beer, and enjoy a really good movie lovingly presented by true film lovers.

I couldn't believe that it's actually the world's oldest continuously running cinema, so I looked it up myself. There it is, in the Guinness Book of World Records. More people should know about that.
