When I was researching the internet for the best brunch in Cambridge or Somerville, Bluestone Lane didn't appear. Walking past it often between school and home, I never really took notice. But, four of us gave it a try today for Sunday Brunch. Bluestone Lane met all the criteria for the perfect brunch: great ambience, great service, mimosas and beer and, most importantly, creative and delicious dishes - for breakfast, brunch and lunch. The employees are so lovely here, the space is beautiful, clean, and always less full than nearby coffee shops, and the people there tend to be chic Europeans. Their drinks and food is very high quality--delicious, fresh, and healthy. I'd also like to highlight the employees: they are so unbelievably kind. Bluestone Lane is the cutest cafe located in the heart of Harvard Square! It is easily accessible by the red line, but parking may be quite difficult. My friends and I ordered the B.L.A.T.E., the breakfast bowl, and the folded chimichurri eggs and bacon toast. The BLATE comes with potato wedges and the burger itself tasted AMAZING. We also ordered an iced latte and an Aussie iced vanilla float. I've never had a coffee taste this good - it had to be the combination of ice cream and coffee. It was incredibly sweet though, but I like my coffee on the sweeter side. Portion sizes were very appropriate. Some items can get a bit pricey, but it's worth the experience and vibes. Customer service is excellent! All orders are placed on your phone, including the tip and payment. Bluestone Lane is a great place for a brunch date or a get-together with friends! The worst service I've had in a long time. Came here with my parents after church for a nice sit down brunch. We all love and miss the old cafe so much (Crema cafe) But are happy there's a new cafe in town (though a chain and much more expensive) The waitress we had was very young and inexperienced. We ordered and by the time the food came, another guy brought up the wrong Item for my parents. He then left with it. I guess he didn't tell our waitress Bc she came over to check on us a few minutes later and had no idea we didn't get our entire order. She read to us the wrong order that she put in. Did not address the fact she put in the wrong order, and just said ok. By the time I finished my bowl, it was still not there. I wish there was some kind of transparency and she had let us know what was going on. Also apologize for putting in the wrong order. But nope, just kept walking by us as my hungry parents watched me eat. We have her benefit of the doubt since she looked young and the cafe is new. When we were Ready to pay, she didn't present a check and just stood there with a hand held machine telling us it was $59. I had a $50 gift card so I just handed it to her. But realized there was no way it was $60. I asked if she can show me a receipt before I sign, she goes no. So I sign and asked her if they had charged us for the wrong item. Her response:" oh the guy didn't take it off after he left?" She checks and laughs while saying no it wasn't taken off. Really? We were all in shock at how she handled this entire situation from wrong order to order taking a long time to come to over charging us. She returns after speaking to the manager, again without an apology, says the remaining $7.50 was put back on my gift card. And walks away. I was in awe of what had gone down and decided to make sure I actually had that amount returned to my gift card before leaving. The manager at the cafe stand checked it for me and said the balance was $0. So glad I double checked. I asked why while reminding him of what had just happened. He said the remaining balance was put down as the tip. I never signed for any tips. This was beyond! Very very very disappointed in how they run this establishment, how the waitress behaved the entire time? Not taking responsibility for any of the mistakes. And not happy with how the manager handled it as well. He kept on saying he didn't know how any of this happened and he understands my frustration. Well, that's not enough. And for all this, he put the 7.50 back on my gift card plus an additional 2.50. We will not be back to the cafe, ESP the sit down brunch. That is for sure. A perfectly Nice Sunday ruined by them. This is an Australian chain that just recently opened up at Harvard Square. The space is nice and clean, however food items were a bit pricey for breakfast/brunch. I ordered a B.L.A.T.E. ($14). It's a sandwich that contains crispy bacon, arugula, avocado, tomato, fried egg (love the yolk!) and garlic aioli spread on both sides on the brioche buns. It comes with a side of mixed greens. After trying out Bluestone Lane, I was disappointed by this addition to Harvard Square. The place is very cutesie and in tune with the Instagram aesthetic of today. It's perfectly nice and well-designed but it just doesn't feel natural. I almost felt like I was in the cafe version of the American Girl restaurant. This is not the reason for the -3 stars. The reason for that is that the prices are obscene. I got avocado toast with gluten free toast (not because I'm gluten free but because the regular toast has sesame). The toast came out to 15 (13 + 2 for the gluten free toast). Along with tip that comes out to over 18 dollars for a piece of toast with avocado. Crazy! read more

The food is no doubt aesthetic and relatively tasty, but I paid almost 20 dollars for a single slice of bread topped with half of an avocado, two tomatoes, three mushrooms, and scrambled eggs. I assumed the "plate" would be a much larger breakfast portion, but I left disappointed and hungry. Further, the "small" coffee really lives up to the name, small. The cup could not have been larger than an 8 oz cup (for reference, Starbucks "Tall" is 12 oz). There are better places in Harvard square for breakfast, so it probably is not worth your time for the food. But the aesthetics are nice. read more

Overall it was super cute inside and the Brekkie Board (half avo toast, half granola) was delicious but everything was overpriced and the portions aren't huge. What a unique spot! This is an Australian breakfast chain located in the heart of Harvard Square! Unlike most breakfast places in the area, this was very spacious with a lot of seating! Because of this, there was never a long wait... and we were there on a weekend! I ordered the "Big Brekkie" which was basically a loaded avocado toast topped with feta, poached eggs, tomatoes, bacon, and mushrooms. My friend ordered the Green Baked Eggs and this was delicious! You can never go wrong with chimichurri .... it pairs great with everything. For drinks we ordered a latte and an espresso, both were tasty and not too bitter. I definitely want to come back to try the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and the traditional Australian Brunch dish, the "Brekkie Board." I will say, the price point is a bit high for what you are getting, but that is my only downside of the restaurant. The service was great, we enjoyed speaking with our waiter and the manager! Hey a hot new business is in town! Went here for brunch and overall had a pleasant experience. This is an Australia-inspired cafe and the chill vibe will make you feel like you are sipping on coffee in sunny Australia. I got the BLATE (bacon, ??? arugula/avocado, tomato, and egg) and found it to be both aesthetically beautiful with the yummy taste to match! It is really an elevated BLT sandwich with your classic ingredients but with a bit of a twist with the inclusion of garlic aioli, arugula, avocado, and fried egg. I love it! What I enjoy about this restaurant is that they are still on the online ordering at the table. Although less formal it makes it easier if you wanted separate checks from the get go. I had their spicy chicken wrap and mimosa. Would definitely recommend the wrap- everyone in my group appeared to be satisfied with their meals. The "1 star" does a disservice to the dismal customer experience we had. What could have been dealt with by a simple apology and remaking of an order turned into an hour long ordeal. I usually don't leave reviews because I'm a "live and let live" kind of person but given the server's treatment of my friend, I had to share this experience. I placed an online order for pickup and asked a friend to pick up my food. When he arrived at the cafe and gave my name (AND order number), the server said "it was for delivery so Grubhub came to pick it up already." My friend proceeded to ask me for a screenshot of the order, which explicitly noted the order was indeed for PICKUP. My friend promptly showed the server the screenshot, who simply said the issue was out of Bluestone's hands and instructed my friend and I to "contact Grubhub," refusing to be of any further assistance. I call Grubhub who cannot reach the cafe via their listed phone number, despite numerous calls. The problem here is not the pickup-delivery mix-up but the disrespect they displayed towards my friend when he tried to communicate all these issues. He was ignored, the servers refused to acknowledge him (after he got me on the phone and asked them to speak to me over the phone), and waved him over to the sole minority server in the cafe who had just arrived on the scene (who promptly handled the situation). My friend never received an apology. (The person I spoke to over the phone offered me compensatory pastries but it was not me but my friend who was subject to the incredibly rude and apathetic behavior of the original server and the other server present throughout the hour.) So, my non-white friend gets ignored and belittled because of an error the CAFE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR and then gets shunted to the only non-white worker (who is the only Bluestone representative that took the time to even try to be of aid)? Reader, reach your own conclusions on whether or not there are some racist staff members employed here. read more

We went here to study during the pandemic, as it was one of the only places open. It felt super safe because they socially distanced, and we needed a reservation to dine. I kindly asked the staff if they could add more ice cream as it tasted like a cup of black coffee and nothing like what an affogato should taste like. Tucked in a corner of Harvard Square, this well-appointed and bright space is easy to miss when walking by. Unlike the unpretentious Crema Cafe, which previously occupied the space, this cafe reads as a bit more pretentious and certainly pricier than most cafes in the square. To sit, one must wait for a host. The servers are perfectly charming but, unlike any other cafes in the area, these servers are there to...well, serve you, which means that this place is not the best to read or work in--someone is apt to always be "of service" and helping/bothering you. Additionally, the cost is something of a turn-off. Perusing the menu, I find most of the dishes pricier and slightly smaller than what one might find at Tatte or Flour nearby. I am a pot-of-tea-and-a-pastry-in-the-afternoon sort of guy and am less than satisfied with the $3.75 pot of tea price tag (which comes in a pot that is literally the size of one normal cup), when one gets a $4 pot of tea at Tatte, which serves 3.5 cups of tea. This is certainly an Instagramable cafe with a healthy-looking menu but may be just a touch too much and too little for me to make it a part of my Harvard Square cafe rotation. read more

Popped in to check this new Australian style cafe out and am so glad I did! First off, the interior is goals - a little coastal, some greenery and plenty of small tables to sit and enjoy your coffee. But the food still managed to steal the show - everything my group tried was delicious and fresh tasting. The cauliflower sandwich and shakshuka were favorites. I was promptly redirected, but it would be pretty easy to add a "please wait to be seated" sign, no? Also the fellow who seated me called me "honey" multiple times which was slightly irritating. So I sat at a table for two by myself and ordered a breakfast burrito and macchiato. My plan going in was to work on my laptop but nobody else was so I felt strange taking it out. I don't think a coffee shop with no outlets by the tables (by a major university) will be the first choice for the Harvard Square demographic. Sad to report the coffee was not hot, although it was tasty. The breakfast burrito was also just "fine" - nice crispy shell and home fries, but pretty bland and not warm. It needed some type of hot sauce, I just added salt. The raw baby kale salad with lemon was...harsh. It would have been fine wilted a bit.
