Short Review: Jerad and Bluestone were accomodating, patient, and professional. If I had a big or tricky job I would without a doubt rehire these guys in a second. Disclosures: I don't know Jerad, not related by blood or marriage. I have only had this one business interaction with him. I am a paying customer. I am not some sort of internet reviewer for money. I say this because my long review sounds gushy. Long review: Jerad was incredibly patient with us when we were trying to set-up the removal of this 80-90 foot silver maple that overhung our house. If you don't know your trees, the silver maple is one of the crappiest. 70 years ago the developer of our neighborhood decided that he would plant them on every plot... They have a shallow root base, grow fast and wide and shed huge branches easily. I removed a couple of threatening branches myself, but I wasn't going to touch the massive one or the one overhanging the power lines. I got quotes from 4-6 contractors and they were all in the same ballpark, but Jerad/Bluestone had the least amount of scheduled work time. They also had the best equipment (tree mek-saw). I didn't worry at all about the branch falling on my house. Anyways, we had some hiccups in the process because we had to pivot to another home project first due to time deadlines and this caused some issues with financing. We kept getting ready to pull the trigger, but could never afford to. Jerad patiently worked with us and conformed to our schedule. No other company followed-up with me through the process. The day of the job, my family were all sick and I wasn't feeling it. I had forgotten that they were coming even though Bluestone sent me a reminder, and was just not ready to do anything. The Bluestone guys took care of everything (and our yard was a wreck). I didn't have to do anything. And unlike the other contractors (not tree guys) that I have worked with over the past 5 months not one of the Bluestone guys asked me to use my bathroom. Believe me when I say that's a huge plus after the last guy to use my bathroom... It almost killed my kid. I didn't want to use my bathroom after that. When Bluestone showed up, I also changed the plan up on them and asked them to do additional work that we hadn't even discussed. Jerad didn't even blink. Said he would get it done. I thought the job may take the whole day even with the mek-saw because of the additional work. Nope. These guys banged it out in 5 hours and that included clean-up. They even hauled off my unraked leaves. Something the city said they would do and never did. My yard looks better now then it did before and it was a rainy, muddy day. I can't say it any more clearly: This is the most professional outfit that I have worked with in terms of tree removal (also worked with Townsend here, independents up north, and dropped trees myself for money) and probably in general as far as contractors go. Bluestone Tree Service showed up to deal with some truly girthy trees on my property, and let me tell you: these were not casual trees. These were not "aww, look at that cute little maple" trees. These were thick, brooding, emotionally unavailable timber beasts that looked like they had been doing squats since the Reagan administration. I stood there like a suburban man confronting the raw power of nature and thought, "Well, that is a concerning amount of wood." But Bluestone did not panic. They arrived with ropes, lifts, rigging, chainsaws, and the kind of assistive devices that say, "Do not worry, citizen, we are trained professionals and we have brought mechanical advantage." It was basically arborist NASA. These guys looked at my trees the way a pit crew looks at a race car: focused, calm, and absolutely ready to get weird with physics. And thank goodness for the assistive devices, because when you are handling that much girth, you need support. Professional support. Hydraulic support. Support that says, "No shame here, big fella, we're going to take this one section at a time." They cut those giant wooden beasts down with surgical precision and just enough lumberjack swagger to make the whole yard feel like it had briefly become a tasteful calendar shoot for responsible men with excellent insurance. Massive limbs were lowered gently. Huge trunk sections were handled with dignity. Nobody yelled, "TIMBER!" and crushed my house like a cartoon villain. It was all controlled, efficient, and weirdly elegant, like a chainsaw ballet performed by people who could also probably back a trailer into a narrow driveway without needing to emotionally recover afterward. The crew was great. The work was clean. The communication was solid. The trees were vanquished. My property was respected. My anxiety was gently lowered to the ground with ropes and turned into mulch. Five stars. I have used this service twice with excellent results both times. I have had several large trees removed or trimmed, and when the crew leaves, all limbs are gone, the yard and drives are pristine. I have rarely seen this level of professionalism among any of the businesses I have hired to work around or in my home. For example, the truck pulling the chipper kicked up a bit of gravel as it made its way up a steep part of the driveway. I made a mental note to smooth it out later, but before I could even finish the thought, the driver had hopped out, grabbed a rake from the truck and put the gravel back in place. Bluestone approaches all the work with this level of detail. They make appointments -- and keep them! -- and their estimates are itemized and accurate. Often, I hear small business people talk about how hard it is for them to stay afloat, but all they have to do is strive for the level of professionalism of Bluestone and they will have lots of repeat customers, too. read more

We worked with the organization a year ago to take down a maple for $9k. At that time they left a 3 foot stump. No big deal, the owner said that if we wanted to just cut the 3ft stump down to just call them and they will do that as a curtsey. In stead, Rachel their receptionist just finished yelling at my husband and saying very unprofessional things to him. A simple no we are not going to do what the owner said he would do, would have been fine but being disrespectful and behaving unprofessionally is really sad. So, if you don't want to be yelled at and you want to work with a tree service that honors their word, has integrity and respect for other people do not work with Bluestone. I suggest Dough Fowler. My family has used him for 30 years or so. Bluestone is corporate and of course do not keep their word. Save yourself the hassle, don't work with them. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Bluestone Tree. For starters, the owner is a certified arborist, and knows his stuff, as does his entire crew. Secondly, they have highly specialized equipment to get even tough jobs done (see the website). So they should be expensive, right? Wrong. Because they are so efficient, jobs get done very quickly, and Bluestone's rates are super competitive, if not the lowest. The attention to detail goes all the way from start to finish...which includes a cleanup that is so thorough that they leave no trace they were there. There are other competent, similarly-priced tree services out there, but to ensure I get the same outstanding service, my future business will stay with Bluestone. read more

I've not dealt with a more professional contractor in all my working years (28 and counting). I had 3 trees removed that were too near my home. On the appointed day and time, what seemed like a small platoon (8?) of workers showed up ready to work. In less than 2 hours, the trees and all the debris from removing them were gone. Watching the process was like looking at a well-oiled machine - with each person knowing their part and performing it well. We had a VERY large oak tree (trunk diameter almost 4') that had died and needed to come down. It was just ten feet from our house, with the crown overhanging the roof. The Bluestone crew took it down, and two other large dead oaks near the house. They had it all cleaned up and hauled away in under four hours. I didn't want my big and beautiful trees cut down but I must say they were kind, knowledgeable, professional and extremely efficient. 3 big oak trees took from start to finish maybe 3.5 hours. Fascinating to watch. We couldn't do it ourselves and it is expensive but everyone is expensive so in that respect it is valuable. I'm sure it's dangerous as well. Matt Baldwin came out, spent a good amount of time looking at all our trees and explaining in detail best practices for taking of each. He was very knowledgable and easy to talk to. We'll have come out again in a few years to check our trees again. Bluestone is an incredibly professional company. This is the second time I have used them for tree removal and I could not be more impressed. The tree we needed to have removed was in the back corner of our yard, between our shed, our neighbor's shed, and a power pole. They had special equipment to get back there and remove the tree safely. I had to leave shortly after they arrived, but by the time I got back the tree and any debris was gone.
