Hell's Gate Watercraft Rentals is a good option for renting a boat if you don't have one. They offer a small variety - two pleasure/ski boats and several pontoon boats. We rented the Chapparal because it's a brand we were familiar with. It's old (12 years) and needed some work, but ran just fine and fit us well. They rent by the hour, and prices are good compared to other options. They have a 2 hour minimum. From the boat launch, it's a quick hop around a bend to "Hell's Gate", the inlet between two cliffs that is one of the deepest parts of the whole lake (100 feet). It's also not far to the dam, which is interesting to go see but of course you can't get close. A two hour rental is plenty of time to see both of these and tool around the lake a bit. The staff here is very nice, but you need to know before you plan your rental that they have a policy that all boats have to be back by 5pm. There is plenty of paperwork to fill out before you leave, so allow plenty of time if you are there in the afternoon. Their hours are different before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. Also make sure that you plan ahead for $20-$30 (maybe your average 2-hour rental) worth of gas when you get back.

That instantly changed my mood about the weekend. When we picked it up on Saturday morning, we kept getting a warning tone coming from the boat. All gauges read normal, so we called and brought it back. Turns out the power steering fluid was low. Jerry and Jay got us patched up and on our way in less than 15 minutes. I didn't feel inconvenienced, but Jay let us return the boat Monday morning since we had to come back in. The great service and "Alright Alright Alright" attitude really set the tone for a great and memorable weekend.

That said, they did have our information in a box for after hours check in. The bathrooms were great, spacious, clean and plentiful. The showers have great water pressure and adjustable shower heads. They're right next to the laundry that looked to be $3 a load. We had a back in waterfront location and it was great to be able to just hop in the water. There's also a few marinas and a pool on-site. We ran out of drinking water and were a bit bummed there wasn't a water refill station and the office was closed which I believe is where the store is. It's dog friendly and had a small dog park.

Great food (had eggs Benedict one morning and it was fantastic and Philly Cheesesteak with fries for dinner which was also great). They said they make the fries in house and they were really good. Had a bloody Mary one morning with breakfast and it was prepared really well. Despite it being really hot the weekend we were there, the AC kept the room very cool and comfortable. Lastly friendly and helpful staff.

French fries cooked in dirty cooking oil. Egg salad was not edible - disgusting. The hamburger meat was edible only if cooked medium well. The restaurant could be really good if staffed correctly, the menu was reduced to really good options. Bar was not tended. No real draft beer choices. I would love to be hired for a consulting study for the entire experience. No one on the ownership side is paying attention.
