This is a REAL barbershop that does REAL haircuts, unlike the ridiculous hard lines, undercuts and piss poor blending that other people have come to pass off as "good work" to college students. As a loyal customer I've come to build a rapport with Ross and he knows already what I prefer and I don't need to ask for anything. In my opinion, their services are the best value anywhere. I've gone to other barbers in New Paltz and without naming names, the only cut they know how to do is either a poorly blended skin fade and have no idea how to taper. There's a reason why I keep coming back to see Ross & Cory and you should too. During the pandemic I've been happy to keep supporting their business and come in every two weeks to keep up with my cut. I could easily go a month without cutting my hair but let's be realistic, in these uncertain times we need to support local talent and Hot Towel is that diamond in the rough that deserves significantly more recognition for their hard work.

I'm beyond angry about this experience…read more I had been growing my beard for six or seven months before coming in because it had reached the point where I wanted a professional to shape it. Since I'm bald, this was my first visit to a barber in over 25 years. I specifically explained that I was trying to grow my beard out and only wanted a light cleanup. I asked him to blend the sides into my hair while keeping the front of the beard longer than the sides. Instead, this very young barber immediately started with clippers and removed roughly 50 to 75 percent of my beard in most places. He cut well over an inch of length off, leaving less than half an inch in most areas. For a beard, that represents months of growth. He essentially buzzed almost everything to one length, yet somehow still left it longer near my sideburns than on my chin, which is the exact opposite of what I asked for. The left side wasn't even finished properly and was still noticeably uneven and unkempt unless I brushed it into place. I had to come home and try to fix it myself. The part that bothers me the most is what he did to my mustache. Without asking, he shaved approximately one third of an inch directly under my nose. Maybe that's a style some people like, but it absolutely is not mine. Making that kind of permanent change to someone's beard without even asking is completely unacceptable. There is now no hair for nearly half the distance between my nose and upper lip, and it looks absurd. I honestly don't see any way to make it look normal again without shaving my mustache off completely and starting over. I normally brush it out to the sides and curl the ends, but that look is gone. It will probably take another six months before I can even get back to where I was. I'm genuinely seething because there is simply no way to undo what was done. At no point did he stop to ask if the length was okay or show me his progress before removing months of growth. Once that much beard is gone, there is no putting it back. What makes this even more frustrating is that the atmosphere in the shop was great. Everyone else seemed friendly, welcoming, and personable. Unfortunately, the barber I was assigned to made almost no effort to communicate with me or walk me through what he was doing, despite me telling him this was my first professional beard trim ever. A simple conversation before making major changes would have prevented all of this. I'm sure this shop does good work for many people, but based on my experience, this barber needs significantly more training before being trusted with someone who has spent months growing a beard. I walked in excited to have my beard professionally shaped. I walked out with months of growth gone, a butchered mustache that will take months to recover, and enough distrust that I'll probably never let another person touch my beard again.

They just cut your hair watch whatever is on the Tv and mingle with the other barbers or people in the vicinity, paying no attention to your hair. If you have hair that you really care about and you've been growing it out for a certain cut they will mess it up. They're good at fades and more older style cuts but for young people with curls, textured hair, mullets and all these other "newer" haircuts there are other shops who can better service you.
