Hot Mess Studios is one of a few great pottery studios in the Wilmington. They have group and…read moreindividual private lessons and parties for on wheel pottery, canvas painting, and piece painting. They have 3 speciality nights you can sign up for in advance. On Thursdays they do Ladies Night Sip & Spin where you get one hour 1 pot, throw as many as you like, keep what you like for just $10 more + wine. Fridays are "Filthy Fridays" where adults 16 and over can sign up for a 7 pm or 8:30 pm time slot and get 1 pot + 1 ball of clay with the option of more at $10 each. On Saturdays they do the same thing but it's family friendly sessions (ages 7+) from 1 - 6pm, and 16+ reservation only from 7-8 pm. They're closed Monday - Wednesday with an exception of private reservations in advance. If you have special time and group number requests I'm sure they can accommodate if you call ahead and plan. They're very responsive, professional and easy to schedule with. I did all my scheduling through email and received prompt responses. The gal running our lesson, Emma, was also so professional and sweet. She's great at what she does and I'd recommend any beginner taking lessons from her. When we arrived Emma greeted us at the door, walked us through the studio, showed us the process and helped us whenever we needed throughout the activity. I had a certificate for 2 hours, 2 people, and 4 pieces each. It was plenty of time and almost too much clay for two first timers, which is a good problem to have. I'm not sure if that special is still running but check their website to see active discounts - they run great deals, often, and are super affordable for what it is! I would highly recommend trying it out or giving as a gift!

What a cute little place with the NICEST staff EVER!…read more I was visiting my Mother in law in Whispering Pines and we were looking for a little field trip. I found Loving Stitches on Yelp, called to ensure they were open (it was the week between Christmas and New Years), and off we went! From jump, my favorite space in the store was the clearance room. I found SO MANY good deals in there! I was not expecting to load up, but with deals that great, it was easy to do. They also had some post holiday sales going on, so I was sure to visit the back room to take advantage of those. It appears the back room is used to offer classes if that is your thing. They have fun notions and little gifts (tumblers, sewing related items) for purchase and appear to be a Bernina dealer (great machines). Being that I am primarily a modern quilter, the selection of newer/up-and-coming/modern designers appeared somewhat limited, but I was happy to find Kaffe and Tula in their own adjacent spaces toward the middle/back right of the floor. Perhaps the others were sprinkled in around the beautifully color coordinated perimeter walls, but I did not venture must past the Tula, Kaffe, and clearance if I am honest. At first glance, it appears that this is a gold mine of coordinating fabrics and you could find just the right shade of blenders if needed from their selection. Overall, a 4.5 for me, but rounded up due to the exceptional service from a sweet younger person with shorter dark hair - her name is slipping my mind. She and I had some great conversations about quilting and she was super helpful! I will return when visiting again from out of state.

The…read moreartist we had was so nice and her assistant was also very helpful to all the customers making sure we weren't too far off on our paintings haha Price: Extremely affordable date Night location. $50 for two and BYOB! Price includes two separate paintings that you and your significant other will paint in class. Ambience: Well lit in order to work on your masterpiece. It was neat how the date night class was separate from the bigger room that was utilized for more of an actual painting class. My wife and I painted two separate paintings but when we put them together it made one big painting. Drink as much wine as you want during the class and good conversation with other customers. Very laid back atmosphere with music and outgoing staff. I look forward to returning here in the future.

I like the idea of this but our experience tonight was not great. There are two rooms for painting…read more One is a big, bright, room. The easels are set up with plenty of rom between them and the music is playing in it. Next to that room is a tiny little side room with a long table and all of the easels are crammed next to each other. There was barely room between each easel for us to put our mason jars with water for the paintbrushes. Our instructor went WAY too fast so we all just ended up doing our own thing. Meanwhile the group in the other room was listening to music laughing and having a great time. I feel like it would have been a much more enjoyable experience if we weren't stacked on top of each other and if we didn't feel like outcasts from the other group. I'll probably be sticking to the beads and brushes in Aberdeen after this class.
