I was a regular here for about 5 years. I've never missed an appointment and I always tipped well. Even when my favorite barbers left I stayed. However when their website glitched and put my appointment on the wrong day, they still charged me a penalty fee. I even called them and asked if they could wave the fee just this one time and they said no. The previous Manager Alyssa was such a great manager and she would have waived it since I was a regular. $50 haircut? Asked for a beard trim and was told I needed to make a separate appointment for my beard, when the guy ahead of me walked in, he ONLY had his beard trimmed and walked out in 5 minutes. What if my beard had plans and didn't have time? So if you don't make two appointments (one for each hair growth area) on the same day, part of you will leave shaggy, like I did. Oh yeah...get this: you need an EXCLUSIVE THIRD appointment to get your eyebrows trimmed. ‍ Time to go back to the barbershop where you get what you ask for. I've been coming here for a while now, at least the last couple of years. I'm someone who's very picky about my hair, so once I find someone I like, I stick to them. My original stylist was Alyssa who ended up moving to the woodlands location I believe. She was great to say the least!! I've been using her recommended shampoo ever since then and I haven't gone back to anything else. Since she moved I'm now going through Gabriella who is great as well!! I went in today with a long beard and asked Brandon to clean up the sides of my beard and trim the bottom just taking off enough to square the bottom up. I've been going to the La Cantera Boardroom in Katy off and off for years, a week ago I had stylist Antonia Cervantes, who did such an exceptional job that I joined their executive club which gives me unlimited haircuts and services such as shave and beard trim. Frankly, while Antonio is terrific, I didn't expect too much. In my experience, the term 'unlimited' is often misleading because there is usually an attempt to upsell or find some reason some kind of charge is appropriate. Not this time! My head face and beard were shaved using a straight edge razor. Multiple hot and cold towels were applied along with lotions and ointments. Over the years, I've had many high dollar grooming sessions from London to Lima, but none was superior to what Antonio and Boardroom gave me. read more

Called to book and confirm at 10:58 for haircut appointment for 5pm since I was having trouble with their online system. At 2:08pm I get a call saying that it was never confirmed (never received a confirmation) and she asked if I can come right now (@2:30) or tomorrow. If I'm overpaying for a haircut at such a disorganized place with lack of customer service, I'm no longer interested at all! She couldn't give me a clear answer on what happened to my 5pm appointment. I told her I'm working and not available before, that why I called this morning and confirmed for 5pm (earliest time Possible for me). I have been here once for a haircut and will never return! During my first visit it was kinda annoying when they kept trying to sell me their overpriced membership and tacky hair products. This place seems very gimmicky and overpriced for an average quality haircut. The hairstylist did not listen to my son's request. The three of us had a detailed conversation about what he wanted which included a picture. She said he would need to grow out his hair some to achieve that style. She ended up cutting inches off his hair that was not damaged. He now has to start over with growing out his hair. I mentioned that it was too short and not what we asked for. Her response was, "Well, we can't put it back." We are extremely disappointed. read more

Came here last week for a mediocre haircut- had to go elsewhere and get it fixed/ finished. I'm only leaving 2 stars because the stylist was really nice and friendly and had she not had her managers rushing her around the corner and distracting her, she would have probably done a better job. I arrived at 3:05 for my 3:15 appointment and wasn't sat until after 3:35- yet they rushed my haircut for the next guest knowing mine ran late as well. To add insult to injury, they rushed her so much so that she finished the haircut on my white dress shirt after taking my cape off. Second bad experience with this chain of salons. Won't be coming back. Spend your money at an actual barber shop without the glitz and glamour and walk out with an excellent cut at 1/2 the cost. read more

After explaining what haircut I wanted, my stylist decided to go completely against what I had said and gave me the complete opposite of what I wanted. Walking into the salon I had long hair that I liked and was just looking to clean up. The stylist began cutting my hair shorter than what I had asked because she believed it would look better. At the end she began adding more and more product to my hair to make it look like what I was asking for. I usually go to Boardroom in Southlake and have never had a problem, however I'm in Katy for the weekend and needed a clean up and ended up with the absolute worst experience I've ever had getting a haircut. read more

Xenia has been my go-to stylist since then. Xenia is professional and makes the time pass by smoothly with great conversation and always ensuring I get what I paid for. Visiting from NYC, was recommended this "salon" by a friend and had the worst haircut of my life. To start with, I knew things were going to end badly when I said I would like a "hard part" to the woman and she didn't know what I meant, and when attempting one, cut my head 3 times. She didn't understand how to fade a mans hair properly. Only the bottom half of my sides were faded with hard ugly lines, and she didn't even attempt the back after cutting it a much shorter than I asked (and I gave her precise numbers). Massively overpriced and they seem to care more about massaging your head and waxing your hands than actually cutting your hair well. I had to find another Barbour elsewhere immediately following my appointment. Besides my terrible cut, I do have to say the place was clean, packed, and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. I've been going to the Boardroom for a couple of months now and my overall impression is.. meh. Simply put, they're overpriced. $43 for an Express which includes: A free beverage - Bud Light, Shiner Bock, Coke or water. They used to have 16.9oz waters but they started going with 8oz ones. I guess the $43-$60 for a cut wasn't covering the cost of the 16.9oz ones. Personal Consultation - NEVER had one, even my first time going, it was "well what do you want". Never did I receive any input from a "stylist" on what may look good, what to avoid, etc. Tailored Cut - I've seen 3 different stylist, 1 was good, 1 was decent and 1 was just plain bad, honestly. None of the 3 were worth $43-$60. Precision Neck Shave - Recently started advertising this, however, I never received one even after they implemented it. Shampoo & Condition - They use a nice shampoo that smells like tea tree oil. It's refreshing. Finish Touch Styling - Small amount of product in your hair If you decide to go with a Benchmark, for an additional $17 ($60 total) you get a paraffin hand dip an a 10 minute massage. You can get a 6 month or 12 month membership and depending on the frequency you go, it can minimize the cost of the cut. However, turnover here seems to be high so you have the possibility of being locked into an expensive membership without the stylist that made you sign up in the first place. Considering only 1/3 of the stylist I experienced did a "good job" is the reason why I would never sign up for one. Also, they're worse than used car dealerships trying to sell you the membership. Every. Single. Time. I. Visited. they tried to sell me on one, that alone made me not want to come back. The feeling I got was they're required to ask you every time to join if you're not one. Not recommended for guys that just want a good, simple haircut, no membership BS, massages, etc. Recommended for guys who like the massage, paraffin, etc. But only if you're willing to get a membership which has pros and cons. read more

It is disrespectful of customers' time to make them wait for their appointment after the customer agrees to move their appointment because their stylist is ill. I don't blame the stylist for being out, people get sick, but I do blame a manager who reschedules the appointment and then can't manage their people well enough to accommodate the customer. read more

I couldn't agree more with all the 1 star reviews... Sure, this place is "nice" the staff is friendly, but the actual haircut I received was THE WORST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE. I went in with longer hair, and specifically asked that I wanted to keep my long hair and just needed it trimmed / cleaned up so it didn't look so messy. My stylist kept on asking how much I want to cut off, and I relentlessly said I don't want that much cut off, just everything trimmed. The stylist then said I need to add some more "style" to my haircut and I should take off at least 2 inches. I said maybe let's start with 1/2 inch and if I want more taken off, then we can always take more off. But nope, this establishment or stylist is made for business efficiency, not quality or customer satisfaction. The stylist told me "I don't want to give two haircuts." Before I knew it my sides were almost buzzed, but I still had long hair in the back which gave me something similar to a circa 1980's Billy Ray Cyrus Kentucky Waterfall mullet, followed by the stylist saying "see we should've cut the back shorter too." SO then I was screwed, and had to proceed to get this "stylish" haircut that my Stylist kept insisting on. And not to mention all along the way I was being up-sold on every product and service that they offer. It was like the stylist had one formula for hair and wouldn't budge on anything else. The stylist cut my hair so I was forced to get what THEY wanted (not me). When the haircut was finished, the stylist then proceeded to demonstrate how great these products were and put so much spray and paste in my hair that I left looking like Johnny Bravo and I came in looking like Johnny Depp. This all happened in the matter of 15min so I wish I would've walked out but I was so bombarded with this "stylish" b.s. I couldn't think straight. Just a disclaimer I'm not a high maintenance guy, usually pay $20 at barber shop and I leave more or less with a good hair cut. I never pay $60 at a cookie cutter butcher shop. This is the first and the last time I will ever go to the Boardroom or a place that even closely resembles it. Don't waste your time on responding with the typical managerial "I'm sorry for your experience." That wont grow my hair back. A great learning experience for sure. read more

She went over all the services they offered & settled on THE BENCHMARK. Dorothy hit a gram slam on my haircut & I couldn't be happier. From the moment I walked through the doors along with the the professional staff, I knew I made the right decision about picking The Boardroom. This isn't the cheapest haircut around, but you get what you pay for. My experience was so great that I joined the 6 month unlimited membership services that they offer. The salon was an all around good experience, the only problem I had was with the haircut. 3/4 of an inch off the top turned into my head being almost bald. I had hair that was over 6 inches long and walked out with 2 inches left on the top of my head. Lost a lot of progress, but overall a good place for shorter haired people. read more

Second time in a row that I've gone to this place for the "Benchmark " with haircut, shave, and waxing. Prior to these two visits I've gone several times with no problem, the last two just stank! First, the stylist have no idea what to do. They know how to do what they are tasked with, they just don't know what to do. You sit down, they ask you how you want your hair cut, they cut it and say goodbye! What about the waxing, shave, hand massage and shampoo? Their response? Oh you ordered other services? They have a great web for signing up for services but it doesn't filter down to the people doing the work. I'd be glad to help teach the managers how to run their business but I shouldn't have to! On top of that I sent a review directly to them from the email their computer sent me directly to the manager and got no response. I guess they don't really care. Save your money and go to a haircutter like sports clips or something cause these people are overpriced for the low level of service you get. read more

About a year ago, I walked into the Boardroom in Katy and fell in love with the experience. I was booked with Sarah and she provided an excellent experience from the get-go. She told me I'd never walk out of there with a bad haircut...and she was right! I decided to sign up for a membership at that time and have been in weekly ever since. With that said, a few months ago I noticed the manager (Yvonne Cruz) was rude to guests and was never personable. She was the ONLY one like that...not very becoming a manager at such a nice place. Then I started to notice that stylists that had been there for awhile started leaving. I asked Sarah at that time if she was going to leave and she said no. She loved working there and took pride in the place. Then out of nowhere, Sarah was let go last Friday. She was the best part about the Boardroom. I'm up for renewal on my membership and am so thankful I didn't renew now that I know Sarah is no longer there. I'm extremely disappointed as I looked forward to going there every week. I'm going to follow Sarah wherever she goes and will not be back in the Boardroom unless Sarah ever goes back. The Boardroom lost an excellent person and stylist! read more

I've been a member of The Boardroom for 7 months now and I go weekly to this location or the one in the Heights. I can't speak more highly of the relaxation and joy I get out of the Benchmark treatment. I look forward to it all the time and use it as the perfect chance to relax for 45 minutes. If you plan to come at least bi-weekly then it's worth your money to buy the membership. It seems a bit expensive on the surface at ~$800 for the Executive level, but I've always felt like I'm getting something worth the money, and I can go whenever I want with no additional cost (don't forget to tip though!) The stylists are always friendly and willing to chat, so that helps avoid the awkward silences you get at some other places. I would suggest trying out a few different stylists when you start because there can be somewhat varied methods in the Benchmark massage and shampooing from one to another, so seeing which one matches up to your style and helps you get the most out of the experience is important. The staff is consistently friendly, the services are convenient and relaxing, and the shop itself is nicer than any other salon you'll ever visit and always kept immaculately clean. Check this place out, guys! Update 4/13/17: I amended my rating from 4 to 5 stars because I think the Katy location has consistently been a place that I really look forward to visiting weekly and the staff are always blowing me away with their friendliness. What a difference a few days made. Since my prior visit, upon learning of my experience during with my first visit, the team at the Boardroom reached out to me to understand what happened and to see what they could do to make me satisfied. They invited me back to the salon to have someone redo the services. They were apologetic -- a bit more than require -- but I appreciated the way they weren't defensive but only wanted to get to a positive resolution. I returned this afternoon for a repeat handgrooming. Again, the hostesses gave me a very warm welcome, offered a cold beverage, and escorted me to a short and comfortable wait until ready. When called back, I talked through what I wanted, had a very nice conversation with the stylist, and got my nails cleaned up to my satisfaction. I will return in a week or two for a shave. I since learned that the Katy location currently does not have a certified barber on staff; so they are not able to perform straight razor shaves, only safety razor shaves. This wasn't really the fault of any of the staff members, but just a misalignment of expectations between the service I selected and received. Now I know this for future reference. Today, I received the experience that I was looking forward to. I understand what the hype is all about. And I will return a couple more times to explore some of their other service offerings. I'll also return a year when I need to get a proper manicure and pedicure vs. going to the standard strip mall nail salon. I also found a stylist that fit what I was looking for. While we got off to a bit of a false start earlier in the week, it is indisputable that the Boardroom stands by their services and the quality of their offerings, and their customer service is well-managed. At this point, I'll conclude that my first experience was a fluke and I look forward to returning. read more
