Boarman's has been a community staple for a long time. Not to mention, the people that work there are some of the most down-to-earth, friendly, and helpful people ever. My family loves Boarman's and it's definitely worth checking out if you're a local or just stopping by town - there's nothing like it. The homemade sausage and beef jerky are amazing standouts! Drool-worthy. The selection is surprisingly good for such a small store, too. The coffee choices are great. The fresh produce is a feast for the eyes. I feel stress melt away when I step inside this market--a reprieve from the MoCo culture. Kind of a throwback to when I was young and lived where there were many more stores like this. We'd love to support this business more than we do, but we don't live nearby. Boarman Meat Market is the only place I purchase whole chicken to make chicken soup from scratch. I have found that there is no after taste of preservatives or chemicals in my chicken soup. None! Just fresh cooked chicken, broth, veggies, and herbs. I realized this after using chicken from other stores, (Boreman's ran out of whole chicken one day) even tried Whole Foods "fresh organic chicken"! Note - I believe that since the meats has no preservatives or chemicals on their meats you need to use within a few days or freeze. Boarman's has persevered for a reason. With all the places I have lived in this country Boarman's stands out as one of the last few remaining places where a person who likes to cook can find excellent cuts of meat. As others have pointed out, their meat is not the cheapest. But that does not mean they are overpriced. I personally think that not many people know the difference between cost and value. My style of cooking is to let the natural flavors of the meat come through with only a light accoutrement of seasoning. For that to happen the meat must be quality cuts, fresh, and well tended during the entire process of butchering to storage. Boarman's always delivers on that. A big, gigantic plus of shopping there is that they have a little bit of everything, including wine, beer, and spirits. The store stocks a lot for its size. It is a small store, so if you are looking for specific brands, you might be out of luck, but it is unlikely that you will not find the actual foodstuffs needed. If you cannot find it, just ask. On two occasions, there were specific items where only a small quantity was needed. I asked the manager, "Would you get in an item if I buy a whole case?" The manager said there was no need for that and bought one case for the store to sell for everyone. What????? Have you ever had that happen before? Wow! Just wow! Only been there once but I love the nostalgia. This is not Giant, Safeway, Wegman's. No mobs of people just a simple grocery store with a hellacious variety of gourmet foods and meats. I was so happy when I found Grape Nuts in the cereal aisle. Evidently the meats are epic. That's for my next visit---rumor has it that the homemade beef jerky needs to be tried and i"m trying that with a side of deviled eggs. read more

Great little old-fashioned country store with everything imaginable. The main attraction, I think, is the high quality local beef and homemade sausage. But they have all sorts of other sausage from all sorts of sources, including hard to find sources that grocery stores don't carry. For example, they carry Manger Half smokes which is the manufacturer that makes the famous DC Ben's Chili Bowl half smokes. They also stock Binkert's sausage which includes all sorts of genuine German sausage such as bratwurst, knackwurst, weisswurst, and more. Everything super fresh. It's fun to peruse the aisles and see what cool items they have that you've never seen before. The beef is not USDA rated because it's local Maryland beef and USDA rules don't require ratings for in-state beef. So, you'll have to inspect the marbling yourself. But when you do that, you'll see that everything they have would certainly be rated USDA Choice or Prime. They have a huge beer selection, carrying beer which is difficult or impossible to find anywhere else in the area. They sell liquor too! They also have a vast array of bbq sauces and rubs. Briskets, pork butts, short ribs, baby back ribs, St Louis ribs, spare ribs - and tri tip! Yes, they frequently carry the elusive tri tip - something which is extremely difficult to find in the grocery stores here in Maryland. Once in very early July, I walked in there and there was a short rectangular box on a shelf. And sticking out of the box were a bunch of smallish American flags on sticks. But they weren't little - the flags were 12 inches by 8 inches on 18-inch wooden sticks. And written on the box in magic marker in large capital letters was the word "FREE." Free? Yes, free. Nobody does that! If you come early enough on a weekend, you will get a free publication titled HAPPIER - a sort of middle-America family newspaper to take home. Free. So, jump in the car and take a drive down a pretty country road until you come upon a time machine disguised as a country market in Highland. And check them out! read more

A GREAT neighborhood meat market! They have good quality meat, you can ask for specific cuts you need and they'll get it for you (9-6 Mon-Sat, 9-3 Sun). Got a tenderloin center cut today and very satisfied with the cut & quality. They have other produce as well (overall looked fresh) and also a small but decent selection of liquor too! So convenient to be able to take care of everything in one place. I would definitely come back here instead of going to big chain grocery stores. read more

Shoutout to our local community heroes! We were able to order our quality porterhouse and Delmonico steaks. They were out of regular T-bone today, but we were all set for excellent beefy goodness with the choice pieces from the friendly butcher. So many spices and seasonings that it was like a gourmet selection of mouthwatering excellence. A little bit of everything here including liquor. It looks tiny on the inside but they have a little of everything. You could easily get all your groceries from here but my visit was specifically to grab a sandwich from the deli. I went with the Reuben with Thousand Island dressing and a Shrimp sandwich. Both were priced very affordably and tasted delicious. I'll be returning for a brisket and pulled chicken sandwich in the next few days. P.S. They have an enormous variety of potato chips in varying sizes for the snackers out there. read more

Well worth the ride from Chevy Chase. It's about 15 minutes outside Olney, pretty ride with nurseries and veggie stands. Much better than Bethesda or DC butchers, a wonderful full butcher with much better meats and pricing. Grab a BBQ sandwich for the food counter, fabulous! read more

Super Duper local meat market and grocery! Great steaks, nice fish selection, house made sausages and chorizo (which are amazing!). Looking for something special? They can order it!! It's a really nice small clean local grocery store! Their meat selection is beyond what I assumed. I thought it's a "meat market", so it's more like a butcher shop. But I was wrong, it's more like a grocery store with most stuff you need for cooking a meal to stock up for a party! Well, still, their focus definitely is still meat. Their sausages are really tasty and their meats are very fresh. I know it's good when my husband who doesn't like sausages much, still like their house made sausages. I think the reason is they use fresh meat and not trashy meat, also the casing is thin and doesn't have a weird taste to it. Other grocery selections are small but good quality and/or local! I also bought some MD grown garlic, local made pound cake, their house made potato salads and bacon, etc. One thing I have to mention is how clean and tidy it is. They even have a hand wash station BEFORE entering the store and asked everyone to wash their hands before getting into the shop for COVID! It's really above and beyond for a small local shop to really try their best to minimize spreading the virus. It makes me feel safe to shop there and appreciate them even more. I have been driving by this spot for over 7 years and today I decided to go in. Glad I did. This place is a long running mom n pop shop thats been around for over 50 years. The store looks small from the outside but bigger on the inside. They have a little bit of everything here from Lottery tickets to tuna salad. My main goal was to get a chicken salad sub. It was a lot to choose from at the deli counter. I was so excited and informed the staff that it was my first time here and the guy helping me gave me a free pack of locally grown sausage. This place is convenient and a great spot to go to if you're in the area. Beer and seafood is sold here as well. I will be back again this week. Great store. read more

Love this market! They have all kinds of meats - and good quality that you just can't find at the grocery stores around here anymore. Every meat we've gotten has been great including the prime rib which you can order for holidays. The store itself is quaint -- kind of an 80's mom and pop throwback -- but for me that's part of its charm. Never had an issue with service but I get that the people are there to do a job and not have a 20 min convo about the weather. They get busy especially on weekends. I've also never seen any of the stuff others have commented on because if I did would have said something. The staff is friendly but not trying to be your BFF. Last time I ever shop here the two incompetent older woman at deli where so rude and had horrible customer service. I honestly felt like they had a problem serving me because I am of Latino decent. They where so helpful and nice to other customers. I am from California and I've never experienced racism like I have in Maryland. It's so sad that people can be so cruel and ignoran. This place had some amazing looking sausages, but we were in the market to MAKE sausages. Luckily they had us covered there too! We came to get beef and fat cuts (which we got) but I was really reeeeeaaaalllly tempted to go home with a tomahawk steak (I don't think it would fit on my grill, so I left it--for now......). All their meat looked fantastic, and the counter service was great. I'm definitely looking forward to shopping again for something to grill. Question: Where can you find a liar a thief and a sneak in one place ? ... Answer: behind the meat counter at Boarman's Meat market ... Attempted to purchase a chuck roast and have it freshly ground yesterday. Man agreed he would but tried to sell me pale looking already ground "meat" ... said no thank you... he disappeared for a bit and returned with what he said was my freshly chuck roast. With the husband retired we went on a week day so got to browse a little more. It's a bit tight and crowded so nice to have it a little less busy on a week day. We don't eat anything except fowl and fish but got a steak for an invited guest. It was apparently delicious from their meat counter according to him. We also found some Fisher's caramel/Old Bay popcorn (though found some a little cheaper nearby later) and a 'party bucket' which was fun for a get-together. Not somewhere I would do my weekly shopping but definitely a friendly, local market with a very awesome butcher and seafood counter. read more

First time there and certainly won't be my last, everyone and I mean everyone was pleasant and friendly. They made excellent recommendations, meat and produce fresh and they also have a great selection in all types of spirits and wines to boot. It's not ventilated well, it's not organized well, and it is not lit very well. Completely unrenovated. Chicken salad was boring, egg salad also nothing seasoned, meat is nothing special. Tastes like what you would get anywhere else. Peaches were hard and sour.m, I waited a week and they never got better. A laborer type was there when I was and his poor English (Spanish guy) earned him some less than stellar treatment and impatience from the deli counter lady. This is an old Clarksville stalwart, they don't like change; it's a why don't you speak English, MAGA type of place. Also the prices are high. This place is solid! It's not what I had expected walking in on a whim as I was driving by. It's so much goodness packed into a store, and it's especially awesome that they make sausages in-house and source what they can locally, it at least along the east coast. The store also carries a beer/liquor license unlike other places as this store has been grandfathered in with changes over the years to the laws around the MD state liquor licence. I ordered the Cuban sandwich from their deli in the back, and it was delicious as can be. I met one of their staff, Christian, who was super friendly and helpful. Best place to get meat products in all of Howard county. Steaks to die for, ground beef that cannot be beat. Love this place!
