A GREAT neighborhood meat market! They have good quality meat, you can ask for specific cuts you need and they'll get it for you (9-6 Mon-Sat, 9-3 Sun). Got a tenderloin center cut today and very satisfied with the cut & quality. They have other produce as well (overall looked fresh) and also a small but decent selection of liquor too! So convenient to be able to take care of everything in one place. I would definitely come back here instead of going to big chain grocery stores.

Shoutout to our local community heroes! We were able to order our quality porterhouse and Delmonico steaks. They were out of regular T-bone today, but we were all set for excellent beefy goodness with the choice pieces from the friendly butcher. So many spices and seasonings that it was like a gourmet selection of mouthwatering excellence. A little bit of everything here including liquor. The staff is friendly and the customers seem to be also. We cooked up a divine Delmonico! Yumm!!

Old fashion country store. Nice cuts of meat, but certainly not the cheapest. I purchased a nice cut of ribs and it was worth it.

Best place to get meat products in all of Howard county. Steaks to die for, ground beef that cannot be beat. Love this place!

Ask the Community - Boarman's Meat Market

Does Boarman's make sandwiches/subs/hoagies? If so, is there a menu somewhere?

Yes. The menu is on a big board above the deli counter. Cheeseburgers, reuben sandwiches, etc.

Do they have an dry aged meat or wagyu?

I go in there about once a week. I've never noticed any beef labeled "dry aged" and I've also never noticed any meat labeled "Wagyu." My understanding is that all the beef is local which is to say it's from Maryland, so it isn't USDA graded. It's… Read more

Does anyone know where the meat is sourced ? Do they have their own attached farm, or is it from local farms ? I'm looking for a source of local grass fed beef.

A lot of their meat comes from their own home farm however, they also buy from local 4-Hers ( youth raising animals) and local farmers. I think there are some meats from larger companies as well.

Let me start with the cheesesteak. I am a firm believer that an amazing cheesesteak has to nail the 3 components: 1) quality meat, 2) gooiness of the cheese, 3) freshness of the roll. Harvey's nailed the meat. The gooiness of the cheese was inconsistent but I do like their take on their own wiz. The roll was eh. Also, the onions were just thrown into the meat instead of being car elided on the flat grill. I think what really took my by surprised was the staff. The cook seemed to be on break eating while I waited for my order. Now it was a little dead in Union Market. I showed up around 5ish on a Friday night. But I was a little caught off guard when watching the staff during the making of my sandwich. Just expected a higher standard. If I lived in the area, I love the availability of getting fresh quality cuts of meat as they have available for your viewing pleasure. Their menu of sandwiches available here still look great. But now that I've tried their cheesesteak, I don't feel the need to stop for it again.

I would never think of getting lamb anywhere else. I called up over a week ago, spoke with Roland, and ordered a nice young lamb's leg for my Easter feast. Roland made it happen! And Josh confirmed that Roland had made it happen when I called before I drove the hour and a half up there to pick up that leg of lamb! Truly, everyone I have ever talked to at Wagner's is so down to earth and friendly. When I walked in yesterday, the cashier engaged me in a polite and friendly conversation about the weather and how lucky I was that the store was not too crowded right then. That never happens in any food store in Washington DC! In an age where simply finding a butcher is difficult, it is a true joy to have Wagner's in my life. In addition to a beautiful leg of lamb, I got 2 pounds of deep red ground beef, some killer looking short ribs, a healthy order of center cut pork chops and some of the best frozen veggies I could ever hope for. How do I know those frozen veggies are great? Because I have gotten them before and the flavor is like sunshine on my tongue!!! Just like fresh picked with no additives or preservatives! Wagner's is the real deal. I wish I lived closer to this store but my doctor who watches my cholesterol like a hawk is probably glad I don't. Could I find meat as high quality and fresh as I get at Wagner's? I seriously doubt it. But the selection, pricing, ability to special order and shopping experience cannot be found for love or money in and around the DC area. I highly recommend Wagner's Meats!!!

Whole Foods charged $12/lb and it was noticeably better. Same story with the short rib I got last month...almost half the price at Whole Foods and experienced better or the same quality. The funniest is the stock bones...$15 for a small pack. You'd need two to make any volume of stock, (so $30), and the same amount of bones would be $10 at the farmers market. I love supporting local places, especially high-quality butchers/groceries. I really do. But there comes a point when you have to ask if you're getting ripped off. With meats DOUBLE the price of another grocer that itself has a reputation for being expensive, it starts feeling like you're being taken advantage of. For what it's worth, the little old lady in front of me almost had a panic attack when they rang her up. I would've bought her groceries for her, but I suddenly realized that me buying a couple pounds of chuck roast and 10 marrow BONES to make stock with would already have me above $100. I saw another person put back cookies because after tax they were $7 each. Sorry, guys, but I'm out.
