Boba king is a good boba stop near Drexel's campus. Their drinks aren't cheap but are about on par with other boba places (yi fang is the next closest and is way more expensive). They also offer sweet snacks like croffles which I've never tried but always look good. None of the drinks come with tapioca or any other topping which some other reviews were upset about. However, I've found that this is standard for most boba places, and if not, the drinks with boba are marked up to compensate. There's a nice seating area upstairs to work or chat with friends and it's decorated to be very instagramable if you're looking for cute cafe pics. read more

Visited Boba King and I think it is a decent spot to grab a drink. There menu has the standard boba options with a selection of special drinks. They also sell coffee, which isn't super common. I ordered their jasmine milk tea with lychee jelly. The drink came in a very cute cup but the tea did taste watered down and a bit lackluster. Considering that there are other boba options in the area, I will likely not come back to order the same thing but might come back to try their coffee. I do love that Boba King has a great interior space. They have a few bar style seats on the ground floor and tables upstairs. It may not be a great place to do work as the background music is a bit loud but I appreciate the space to sit and chat with friends! The cute teddy bears and the bathroom are also a big plus. In terms of service, I got my drink very fast despite the crowd that was in the store so big kudos to the staff. Very good boba! The milk tea was excellent and my strawberry popping boba was nice. They even added homemade whipped cream to my boba without charging me. I only wish there was a bigger popping boba selection than just strawberry. read more

I recently ordered a large Thai tea with pearls, no ice and 50% sugar, but it tasted bland; bubbles were mildly sweet with a passable chewy texture, but it seems like they add the same amount of pearls they add to a medium (single small scoop?), which is not enough for a large. My cup was a "large," but I'm certain they downsized the portion because of how narrow the cup is. I'd say the size is more like a standard medium, and I'd be curious about the actual volume of it. My order was accurate, but the flavor of the Thai tea itself was incredibly lacking. I suspect the weak tea flavor is because they use less powder for lower sugar levels, even though the flavor powder should be independent from the sugar content. I'm not keen on returning unless they fine-tune their recipes and provide better portions. Not to mention their pearls aren't as good as Mr. Wish, Tiger Sugar, Gong Cha, or Yi Fang. read more

*HIGHLY RECOMMEND* Literally one of the cutest boba shop in the city. Right at the heart of UCity, Boba Kings knows how to get to the hearts of students. The shop has an upstair dining area that has a flower wall and a neon light wall with a quote from The Little Prince "If you come at 4, I shall begin to be happy at 3", very instagramable. Also, their bathroom has a smart mirror that you can adjust the lights to get that perfect bathroom selfie. Their drinks come in this cute bear cup. Their menu may be small but there are so many unique drinks with dry toppings in addition to classic milk teas and fruit teas. I got their Muddy Matcha Bear and the matcha flavor is very present, strong. They also have honey toast, which was really good. Really cute little shop with lots of Boba options. I got the Mango Tango with strawberry puree and it was delicious! They use real fruit as I could tell by all of the fruit chunks in my cup! Each one is made fresh. You just order on the touch screen and your order will be done in minutes. FOOD Various pastries are available for purchase, from specialty croissants (e.g. taro), toasts, and more. SERVICE The staff are friendly and kind. The drinks were ready within 10 minutes, and there are cardboard carriers for the drinks as well. A self-kiosk is available for ordering if there is a long line/the baristas are busy. If ordering for pickup, the drinks are ~$3 more expensive than purchasing in person. AMBIANCE The interior is decorated aesthetically and florally. There are some pink neon signs inside that provide a nice place to take pictures of your drinks/with your friends as well. The matcha flavor wasn't noticeable in the drink- it more so was just milk. The oolong was average, wish the milk tea was a bit more creamy. The boba itself was also just okay- a chewy/hard texture that was a little inconsistent. I liked the addition of the milk foam to the top of the drinks however! Slightly sweet, salty, and creamy! The store itself is beautiful and very inviting. Amazing decorations and great seating. The menu is pretty diverse but the prices are a bit high. This is a new boba place that opened up in ucity! Today is the second time I came today and my experience was okay. The first time I went was in April, and they did not have the tapioca pearls ready when I went. I got the special organic bear, which is a drink based on the Korean misugaru powder. I thought the price was a bit too high compared to its value... The Honey Caramel Bread and Brown Bear drink I tried today were a bit overly sweet.. The big down side was that.. Either the bubbles were way too big or the straws were too big (i think it is the former), but the bubbles kept getting stuck in the straw and I was barely able to drink my boba.... Such a cute spot! It's got flowers and cute lights with a 2nd floor where you can sit, study, or catch up with friends. I only tried one drink the grapefruit fruit tea but have to say the flavor is good and the tea flavor is strong. Its a thumbs up from me! Its a cute packaging, insta worthy with bear ear caps. I tried the cheese foam since its not easy to make, it was good but not as strong cheese flavor. I didnt get a chance to try this time but they have honey bread and delicious croissants... I have to say it has a good cafe vibe too. The decor is super cute and modern! The drinks are very specific for the signature drinks, but they also have a classic menu too. Boba King, which recently opened on 4/1/2021 in University City - their drink menu has a few unique items that aren't typically seen in boba stores such as Honey Crown (a cereal-esque smoothie topped with Jollypong, a Korean cereal), Gold Silk Milk Tea (corn silk tea), Fruit Loops smoothie. Flavors wise, the drinks were unique, but solid. They also sell brick toasts with a number of different toppings. However, being that this place is new, there are a lot of logistics for them to work out -- when I arrived, there were 3 big groups in front of me, but I think I waited in line and for my drink in total for 30-45 minutes. It seemed like there's still training to do for staff members to get the hang of it. It was early afternoon when I got there, and they were completely out of all toppings (bubbles, jelly, etc.), which was a huge bummer. I was super disappointed with my order. I pretty much paid $6 for cereal milk. I like my Cheerios with blueberries and brown sugar. The brown sugar drink I got tasted just like this cereal milk. I thought I got bear sugar milk tea, but it tasted only like milk with brown sugar. No tea, and definitely no boba. The picture next to the milk tea section had boba. Boba King that gives no boba. It was really neat that they caramelized the top of my drink like Creme Brulee, but I'm definitely not paying $6 for cereal milk when I asked for a boba milk tea. This is hands down the best boba shop I have ever been to. The boba is soooo chewy and delicious. I absolutely love how the warm boba and cold milk tea mix in your mouth like a warm apple pie with a scoop of ice cream. The atmosphere is super cozy and the little ears on the cups are such a cute detail. The only downside I can possibly think of is if you come in right before closing they might be out of Boba but even then their milk tea is fantastic. Everywhere I go I get just a taro milk tea with Boba and this is the best one I've ever had. This is a newly opened boba place on Drexel campus. They had a 3 day free drink event from April 1-3, I was curious so I was planning on going. However, when I saw how long the lines were each day and how crowded it was inside I decided to just wait. So, officially today is their day 6 of the business. The line was still long, and the service was pretty slow. I am not counting this against them since the employees still have to get used to making drinks, and facing different glitches. I definitely want to support this business because it is Philly based! I ordered taro milk tea (30% sugar, and with lactaid milk), and oolong milk tea with boba (25% sugar, and lactaid milk). Taro milk tea tastes very good! I think I can go lower in sugar, and oolong the same way (can go with less sugar next time). I will definitely come back again to see how things are going here. For these prices, you'll certainly get a specialty drink with a decent ice-to-drink ratio, but this is not the place for true boba lovers, the whole thing is neon lights and mirrors. Boba king is in fierce competition with other Local Bubble tea places in university city, such as Kung Fu Tea just over a block away by University Crossings and Tea Dō on Penn's campus, both of which have wider menus and various types of teas. Here's what I do like about Boba King: - staff seems as friendly as any other place and even though they are often busy, they work quickly and efficiently - they change their special flavors often. Right now a Cotton Candy themed drink reigns supreme - if you're looking for a cute photo op, this is the place for it. There is seating upstairs to sit and chill as well What I don't like: - even though it's cool they make their own boba, it does not taste good and is always very syrupy. Please invest in a slotted spoon. - not all of the drinks come in multiple sizes. Boba King has small and large cups, but not every drink can be made small, which I don't like. People like choices and sometimes sugar hits the spot without digging into the wallet. - I've ordered three drinks from here since the time they've been opened, and have been disappointed each time. I felt embarrassed my first time coming, as I brought a big boba fan with me, and they couldn't even finish their drink it was so sweet. The place was pretty packed for a Thursday afternoon - probably because it's on a college campus. The place is clean, staff were friendly and welcoming. Seating area available in the back. Street parking. Bubble tea quality was good but I didn't think it justified me paying $8 for it. I've tried plenty of strawberry milk teas before at other bubble tea places and they're about the same quality (except at Tea-do, they're strawberry milk tea is so bad). This strawberry milk tea had small bits of fresh strawberry which I really enjoyed. But again, can't justify going here again to pay $8 for a bubble tea. They also only have size large for this bubble tea (pls tell me why you don't have other sizes). Side note: my friend ordered a mango refresher with bubble tea and they forgot it. I'm from California and I have high standards for boba. I prefer when there is more tea quality than sugar content. I got a jasmine milk tea with 30% sugar and since they don't have herbal jelly I got their boba. It's hand made which I respect but still doesn't taste quite right as compared to the packaged ones in my opinion. The drink was super sweet even tho when I usually ask for 30% at other places you can tell there is substantially less sugar content and less sweetness. Also the jasmine milk tea didn't taste made fresh with jasmine tea, it tasted like the powder form which I'm not a fan of. They have a lot of colorful instagramable sugary drinks if you're into that. And the place is cute for sure, but I just like a simple jasmine milk tea and I tend to judge places based on their jasmine milk teas haha maybe not a fair judgment but try it and see for yourself! You're better off at Kung fu tea across the street! If you have a car, sharetea is my favorite in Philly! Love love love the consistency of the boba here! It's actually chewy and not the weird soft gross boba you get at other nearby boba places. I tried the corn milk tea (delicious!) and my friend got the white grape drink with extra boba. She was worried the boba would get hard because of the ice, but it stayed chewy and delicious the entire time. Just wanted to write this review because I noticed a lot of older ones said the boba had a weird consistency? Maybe they've changed some things since then, because I absolutely love it. I absolutely loved my experience at Boba King! I'm really happy to see another boba place open up around UCity. My partner and I each got a drink off of the special menu and added boba as an extra topping. I got the strawberry milk and my partner got the honey crown and we absolutely loved both! Both were not too sweet and actually went really well with the boba addition- they might look like smoothies but aren't actually too thick, they're still icy enough to feel like it goes well texturally with boba. There were tons of strawberries in my drink and the honey cereal used in my partner's was so delicious. The bear lids are also just too adorable!! Customer service was great and we didn't wait too long for our drinks at all. I would highly recommend you try this new location out! They have a tiny bit of seating upstairs with a cute neon sign but takeout is easy and safe at this location. I definitely will be back to try their other drink flavors (it was hard to decide!) This is my new favorite boba place in Philly! I most recently ordered taro tea with boba and it was absolutely delicious! It had a uniquely sweet flavor that I haven't experienced from other local places that make taro tea. I've been here a few times now and it hasn't disappointed me once. Their staff have been very friendly, service is fast and the tea is great. I also appreciate some of the smaller details like nice napkins, lids, and an ultra clean storefront. The drinks were pretty good here at Boba King, and I think their mascot is amazing haha! The staff was very friendly and helped recommend some drinks to us. The seating arrangement upstairs was well decorated and very comfortable. The bathroom has some futuristic sinks with integrated lights in the mirrors and a Dyson hand dryer built into the faucet! In terms of the drinks themselves, they tasted so good! I ended up getting a Mango Tango and I thought it was very refreshing, the mango tasted ripe, and the drink was aesthetic. You are definitely paying a bit more for the high end aesthetics though, I don't think I'd visit Boba King on a regular basis to get my boba fix, as the prices are a bit steep compared to their competitors. If you want a higher tier boba experience with some nice drinks with some friends, definitely come here and enjoy Drexel's quad area with a refreshing drink in hand! read more
