Stopped in closer to closing and the ambiance was really lovely with very instagramable decor. The servers were quick to inform me that they were closing in about 25 minutes and all the chairs were up. I asked if I could order to go as I was planning to take it back to my hotel anyways and they said sure. You order on the screen and they make the order. Lovely boba restaurant, I really like the booba flavor and the taro tea was phenomenal, refreshing, great flavor of the boba and the jelly was flavorful and soft. Super lovely decor. Great music & Ambience. Self ordering menu was a little complicated mostly because I don't consume milk so I couldn't find the milk substitute but after a couple of seconds I figured it out by myself. Came here on a very hot day after a mile or so walk from work to Rittenhouse Square and needed a drink. Boba King hit the spot. Small and very clean restaurant (at least from what I was able to see) with TV menus posted above the ordering counter, the place was empty when I got there so I was able to look at the menus for a while before ordering. I went with a large Peach Oolong tea with Boba. $6 for the large, $.85 for the Boba, add tax and it was $7.78. They also have small and "H" which when I asked stands for hot. Definitely no hot drinks today wanted! Very refreshing and it was gone within the next two blocks walking back to work. Wish I had asked for less ice to get more tea. Far from the other boba shops, but it was next door to where I had brunch so I decided to stop in. My boyfriend's family had never tried boba before so I was excited to show them all the options. We went to the counter and they were out of tapioca boba. This was a little upsetting considering they are a boba shop, but they also had no ETA of when they would have more. We got a coffee drink, fruit tea, and a matcha milk drink. The coffee was very milked/watered down. The fruit tea was decent enough. After several delays, I'm glad to see that this location finally opened! I think that this Center City location is a very prime location, especially because most of the bubble tea spots are concentrated in Chinatown and the other Boba King location is in the West Philly/Drexel University, which is a bit out of the way unless you work or go to school there. Compared to the West Philly location, there is less seating at this location. This feels like more of a grab and go place with limited seating along the window. When I went, I did see a few people doing work there. Let me preface by saying that when I rate bubble tea places, I usually compare them in relation to Kung Fu Tea because Kung Fu Tea's bubble tea isn't the best but it isn't the worst. It's not my go to spot but it's always a safe option when that boba craving hits. And they have a good variety when it comes to milky and fruiter options. For additional context, I usually prefer fruit teas and adjust the sugar level (typically one level below 100% sweetness.). I ordered the Yuzu Citron Fruit Green Tea with Aloe Jelly and Less Sugar. I usually like citron tea, which is a pulpy syrup made from yuzu (similar to a marmalade) and combined with cold or hot water. The addition of the green tea and aloe jelly made it different but a good different. I thought it was the perfect amount of sweetness and the drink was overall very refreshing. As a separate comment, I'm not sure if Boba King does this for all of their drinks but the drink had both a drink seal and a plastic lid on top. I liked the idea because it made the drink more secure before I put in the straw but I did have to remove the lid first and then reattach it once I put the straw in because it was a bit difficult to insert the straw. I didn't realize this at the time I ordered but I'm really happy to see that Boba King offers non dairy alternatives, which you don't usually see at most bubble tea shops. Based on the Yuzu Citron Green Tea and the Mango Tango, which I tried at the West Philly location, I would rank Boba King as being a little better than Kung Fu Tea, more accurately a 3.5. What I like about Boba King is that the drinks aren't overally sweet and there is more of a distinct tea taste. Also, they have some unique offerings and having non-dairy options is always a plus in my book. Some cons are that the flavors are a bit artificial and, while there are several different drink type categories, there aren't that many options per category, with several of the same flavors appearing across the categories. Would I go back? : Most likely! After discovering that they offer non-dairy options, I'm more inclined to try some of their milk tea options. I feel like my impression of Boba King is a bit limited due to how few of times I've tried their drinks so my rating of them may change as I try more drinks now that their Center City location is now open. I also think that their bear theme is very cute. read more

Honey bread and croissant were both solid. Cream toppings were not overly sweet, like how most Asian desserts are. Toast was soft and buttery in the middle with a crunchy toasty crust. Good cream to bread ratio. I would prefer a stronger taro flavor from the taro cream in the croissant but that's a personal preference. Definitely open to coming again and trying other flavors. Got a fruit tea and it was a good mix of fruit and tea. I forgot what drink I specifically got though, sorry. I have been to the other location so speaking on Boba King in general, solid drinks with some flavors not common in other boba shops. This location is a lot smaller than the university city one (Ucity is huge so a lot of places are smaller than it, to be fair). Maybe 6 seats along the window, 2 tables and a bench type seat. Workers were really nice. We came in the early days of opening so I guess they were still setting up. Ambiance: 5/5 Very clean, ample seating and great for aesthetic pictures. Matcha Bear: 5/5 This is a matcha and dark chocolate chip milkshake. Boba is not included but it's the perfect texture; not undercooked or hard on the inside. It's now becoming industry standard that you have to pay extra for add-ons like boba, whipped cream, etc. With that being said, this is one of the few spots in Center City that has a rewards program! I'm a big fan of the boba places around Philadelphia to begin with, and I was curious to check out the new Boba King in Center City! Pros: Good lighting, easy to see from the street so easy to swing by during shopping, and a small menu with customizable options for milk+sugar+toppings. The boba cup has a cute bear lid in keeping with the boba bear mascots around the shop! Cons: It's a very average boba place. I chose a standard Thai tea with lychee jelly and boba to see how it compares to a competitor (Tea do). The price is about the same but unfortunately you do have a smaller cup for your drink. In addition, the lid -- while cute-- seems like a lack and waste of waste that only contributed to excess plastic, though it's perfect for a photo op or aesthetics. The lychee jelly too was dumped in with the syrup it's stored in. Despite only adding 25% sugar to my boba, my whole sip tasted like lychee jelly syrup specifically and less like the tea. The flavor of the tea is very weak or they're adding too much milk. The jobs itself is large and chewy but without its own flavor profile. Not sure if I would go back but it's a passable place for now unless I'm thirsty and on the go! read more

The service was great and the girl making my drink was very friendly and fast :) I would give the boba tea a 7/10, the flavor is nice but it just a very standard milktea flavor that I think you can get anywhere. However, the biggest flaw was the boba. I don't know if they were not cook all the way through but they were very tough to chew on and it felt crumbled instead of chewy. I'm happy I stumbled upon this place. I was early for a meeting, so I went looking for the closest bubble tea/coffee shop and found Boba King. They have something called a brown bear coffee on their menu. I asked the employees at the front what it was and they told me it's one of their specialties and I would enjoy. I don't need any further explanation than that. I'm happy I listened to them, it was delicious. I sat and enjoyed my drink for a few minutes before heading out to my meeting. I ended up getting matcha boba tea with tapioca pearls (very standard stuff) and it was reasonably tasty. I ordered a Thai tea w/ bubbles and oat milk. Sometimes alt milk lacks creaminess but this tasted ultra-pasteurized in a good way. The default ice and sweetness levels are reasonable, and the pearls were the right balance of sweet and chewy. The Thai tea flavor was pleasantly strong, and definitely one of my favorite renditions. Honestly I should have checked the reviews before going but it was directly next to me. Here's what I experienced: - I saw them fill my cup up with ice, it was a lot of ice, those flattish ones, the square mound-like ones. I gotta sharpen up my ice shape name knowledge but these are some dense-packing ice.. I get that ice as filler is common, so I wasn't too shocked by this first observation. - they poured the shaker of milk tea into my cup filled with ice, and stopped almost an inch from the top! Why? And it looked like more than 50% was left in the shaker! Now that's an insult. Fill my cup with ice, don't even fill the rest with tea, then waste the majority, which could have replaced the ice or filled the rest of the cup! Pretty bad. - well, then they put whipped cream, okay, "nice" touch but they didn't ask me if I wanted it and the and I've never had a thai tea with whipped cream on it, so I wasn't that interested and now it's taking the space of drink! - it comes out with a dome lid on it (shaped like a bear, their mascot I guess?) so why didn't they put the whipped cream in there? Oh because it's also sealed with the classic bubble tea seal. Ok.... And because the dome lid has a circular flap opening, its actually harder to jan the straw in because you have to aim for the flap and orient the straw's point correctly!! - AND the whipped cream is entirely stuck to the soft-plastic-bubble-tea-seal which I would have had to I remove to eat the whipped cream!! - the ice shape seemed to be impeding my straw's boba access! - and then the boba were still hard in the center! And then of course it was all over too soon because there were only like five sips in the cup. Yikes. read more
