Given the scope of the project, I went through several contractors (including firing our original contractor, ouch!) before deciding on Edgar and his team, and in the end, I'm so glad we did. Some of the things I appreciated - 1. Edgar is highly knowledgeable about the construction process. He was able to anticipate the problems and call them out in a timely fashion. He would make onsite videos explaining the issue, which made life easier for me when I needed to communicate with my structural engineer or the architect. He also advised me on possible solutions, their pros and cons with cost estimates, so I had more information when making a final decision. 2. Knows and follows city code, which made the inspection process very smooth. Edgar also kept me updated on the city code that might come in the way of my design vision, which allowed me to course correct or find an alternative. This saved us a lot of mistakes. 3. Detailing is the biggest challenge for any project. This is when the whole design and the vision come to life. I'm definitely very specific about attention to detail, and this is where Edgar and his team really shined. From the tile work to carpentry to railings and other details - the work was done with great attention to detail and quality! Edgar would routinely check the work, and point out any misses to his workers before even I got an opportunity to raise concerns. While the project was extremely challenging, Edgar and his team made life much easier. Hired Joe's Concrete to replace a section of concrete with something thicker and reinforced…read more Pricing was very reasonable. Good communication, he showed up early and got it all done in one day. I didn't realize how out of level the existing slab was but he was able to accommodate and the section he poured was perfectly level. I did however end up renting a scarifier to bring down some parts 3/4" and grinding that smooth. In hindsight, I should have had Joe and his crew initially work it down like that from the start. But I guess in the moment it was too rushed to figure out the ideal compromise. The concrete delivery truck did come up short. He had to go and get bags to hand mix. That wasn't ideal since I was going off a spec sheet that said no hand mix. Overall it was an enjoyable little project and Joe and his crew did an excellent job. Can't wait to put the slab to use!
