This review is a bit overdue but wanted to give a big shout out for a job well done by Lemus Landscaping and Excavation. Xavier and his crew expertly converted my empty koi ponds into a little zen retreat and couldn't be happier with the results. Tried contacting several other excavation companies with little interest. Either they considered the job not worth their time or they weren't interested in helping me preserve existing landscaping around the area. However, Xavier and team were able to expertly break down and fill in the all three ponds while totally preserving the existing, landscape perimeter. Little if any 'collateral' damage was experienced. An added plus was that they were able to do the job without having to take down a side fence to get equipment into the backyard. Was also very impressed that he provided job photos throughout the process. Xavier and his team were a pleasure to work with in helping me bring my dream to fruition and the cost was very fair as well. Lemus Landscaping and Excavation rocks(no pun intended!) and can definitely recommend them for any speciality, excavation needs!

Xavier and his team did a good landscaping job on a couple of areas around our house. They cleaned up the median strip and the side of the house. They also installed a new lawn along with making sure the irrigation was good. Xavier is also prompt in communication which made it easy to plan and execute the project.

Friends, trying to find a quality landscape company in the Bay Area may sound like an easy task but I assure you it is not. I worked with a landscape designer and had my plan in hand before interviewing landscaping companies and the pricing was all over the map (if you could even find someone to come to your house and give you an estimate)! I found Lemus Landscaping on Yelp and Xavier replied immediately. We had a few exchanges over text but he came to the house within a day or so to review my design, take necessary measurements and give me a quote. He was able to start work within 2 weeks of the initial deposit. Almost every other company had hidden fees, or "oh, you want that? wellll.... that's gonna cost extra!" In fact, most companies I interviewed wouldn't even pick up the plants on our list versus having us get them on our own. Who wants to deal with that? Lemus managed everything from demolition, to ordering plants and mulch, to installing a quality irrigation system, to then execute on our design perfectly. He also warranties his work. I was thrilled that he was familiar with the Santa Clara County low-water/grass replacement initiative and was able to ensure the materials he used were compliant with this program. Yes, there were a couple things that adjusted the pricing, but weren't included in the initial quote. When the adjustment was made, I was shocked how reasonable it was. I had a follow-up issue when the job was complete and he came by personally on the same day to ensure things were working properly. Were they the most expensive option? No. Were they incredibly cheap? No. Were they very reasonable and trustworthy? 100% Yes. You're in good hands with Xavier and the team.

    Patio with 24"x24" dimensions pavers.

Xavier was wonderful to with on our small backyard patio. We converted our existing garden bed to pavers for an inflatable hot tub install. He was also able to find us an electrician to extend our GFCI outlet nearby the patio.

    Before the clean-up work

Xavier and his team did a wonderful job cleaning up our front yard, which was overgrown with both actual weeds and "volunteers" from plants we wanted there intentionally, but not in the mass quantities that they were expanding to. I wanted the overgrowth removed, but all the intentionally placed plants to stay/be trimmed, and Xavier and his team definitely delivered on that. Additionally, Xavier was great at communicating with me, from the time that I requested an estimate through Yelp, and all the way through the job. He also gave us some recommendations for what else we should probably do in the next round of front yard work. We are very pleased with the results and will be definitely reaching out to Xavier for future needs!

    After

We found Lemus on Yelp when we were looking for someone to finish incomplete work from a previous landscaper. A message was sent through Yelp and Xavier responded right away. We met him within the next few days and we went over what we needed. He was very helpful on helping us decide what to do to clean up the front and back yard. We've always had a huge problem with weeds growing everywhere ever since we moved in. Even after multiple previous landscapers cleared out the weeds, we never did anything to prevent the weeds from growing because we weren't sure what we wanted for our front and back yards. Xavier and his team ripped out our previous artificial turf in our front yard because weeds were poking through. They prepped and added weed barrier before the new artificial turf, and then added small pebbles between the turf and cement floor. In the front and side of our house, new soil was mixed in with our current soil before shrubs were planted, and then organic bark placed around the shrubs. At the front of our house along the sidewalk, cobblestones were added. In our backyard, they removed tons of weeds again, put in weed barrier before the organic bark, they added another 2 rows of pavers next to existing ones, installed an irrigation system, and put down more weed barrier on the large area where we only had dirt. They even placed weed barrier between the fence and cement floor before adding the bark. Xavier and his team was always friendly, punctual, and they cleaned up after themselves. We never had to worry about them going off track or making a mess. What we loved about Xavier was that he gave us great suggestions without being pushy, and every time we needed to add or change anything, him and his team followed through. He even stopped by a few times after the work was complete to make sure our baby shrubs were doing well. We are really happy with the work and will definitely reach out to Xavier again for our future projects. It's been a few weeks since the project was complete and there is not a single weed sprouting through.

Front yard - new fence and gate, plants, turf gravel and trees

From the first contact to post construction, everything went smooth, on time, scheduled, and delivered with excellence. The job done is still praised by everyone passing by. Started the project with a total renovation of the front yard with artificial turf , best quality ever seen, new native and draught resistant plants and trees. We were so happy with the deliverable that we added a wood fence and gate and also did the backyard with them. Xavier knowledge and experience was a great value added to the design and project with his assessment on materials and plant selection. All his team members were experienced extremely polite and knowledgeable. Will definitely tackle our next projects with them!

I would give this company a 10 stars if there is that option. Xavier just completed my retaining wall. His team/crew did an amazing job!! Always on time, great communication, worked through all the finer details and just exceptional!! I am very impressed with Xavier's professionalism and expertise in the work he does. I was not able to visualize the project on a 3d scale since we were working on a slope hill. Xavier saw it and ran with it. He consulted with me on all the decisions and options. I am so happy with the final result and looking forward to working with Xavier and his crew again on our next landscaping project!

I got a couple of quotes through Yelp, but ultimately decided to go with Kay Green -- and I'm so glad I did. It took Young and his crew about a day and a half to complete the project. You never tell someone that's paying you $500 dollars to take your time and do a professional job to go inside. I should have told him to get the F off of my property and hired someone else. I would have been better off hiring men from Home Depot. Totally unprofessional, rushed the job, ruined a couple of plants and didn't give a shit how it looked, even after I showed the owner the damaged plants and all the broken branches only to find more as the branches dried out in the weeks to come. He tells me the plants are delicate, but yet they didn't treat them that way. I will never hire this unprofessional company again and recommend that you don't hire them either. They have plenty of help to do a good job, but refuse to do so. This was a total rip off job to the tune of $500. I'm so sorry I hired this clown to do this job, every time I look at what they did it makes me sick and pissed that I didn't throw them off my property and paid them nothing. I've waited weeks to write this review, in hopes that the job would look better, but it doesn't. Thanks a lot, KAY GREEN LANDSCAPING FOR DOING A SHITTY JOB AND TELLING ME TO GO INSIDE. Huge thanks to Matt, Danny and the team.

Another very happy customer of South Bay Design and Landscaping…read more We had South Bay out to do a full demolition of the existing "landscaping" from when we bought our house and the installation of an entirely new plan from our landscape designer (check out Dawn Engel- she's great!), which included a patio space, a pergola, driveway extensions, hogwire fence, raised planter beds, and a side gate added to our existing fence. These guys do not mess around. Demolition went insanely quickly, and our property was kept neat and tidy the entire time. We never once saw dirt tracked anywhere by the crew, which we can't say the same for any of the other contractors we've worked with (and we're actually quite happy with some of them!), and which becomes even more insane to think about when you consider the nature of landscaping work. Installation went as smoothly as South Bay possibly could have made it. Any time we ran into the occasional hiccup, as happens with all nontrivial projects, Matt, Danny, and Marcus offered thoughtful suggestions and made sure to confirm exactly what we wanted before proceeding. (We had either or both of Matt and Danny on-site most days of our project, and interacted with Marcus via email.) We were delayed a smidge by some heavy rain, but the crew worked through all but the worst of it (talking "if you step in that mud, you're going to lose a boot" type of rain). Partway through the install, we discovered that the previous landscapers had managed to make the L-shaped pathway leading from our driveway to our front door square with nothing- which wasn't easily noticed until we had the planter beds in and hogwire fence line chalked out. (South Bay had laid those out properly square to the driveway and house, as per our plan.) Matt, Danny, and crew were thankfully able to accommodate our request to fix our pathway up by picking up each segment and pushing the out-of-square part over by 4-6 inches; this added about a week of extra time to our project, mostly due to the fact that not all of the pavers could be reused, and that the pavers had actually been discontinued (!). The guys worked around this by sourcing very similar pavers in a different size, and basically cutting and grinding them to match our existing pavers. Post-install, the only way you'd know there are two different pavers in our pathway is if you'd seen it being taken apart and rebuilt. Plants, irrigation, and lighting all went in straightforwardly after the hardscaping work was finished, and Danny gave us a complete walkthrough of all our new outdoor systems. It's been about a week since our project was completed; the plants are all thriving, and we're still ecstatic about our new yards (and so are our neighbors!). In short: we had a fantastic experience working with South Bay Design and Landscaping for our landscaping project. They take pride in doing a quality job, and it shows in everything from demolition to day-to-day jobsite management to the finished project. If you're looking for landscapers, these are your guys. (Special thanks to Matt and Danny for graciously handling my incessant "are you sure you didn't forget about such-and-such little detail?" questions and never once forgetting about any of the details, and also to Sergio for spending basically an entire Saturday morning troubleshooting what ultimately turned out to be a manufacturing issue with our pergola.)
