Called to get a quote on a transmission service, had an idea that it was going to run aroung 250. After a minute of hemming and hawing this guy said "well we can do it for around 350". Not sure how they can justify 30% over the going rate. Stay away! read more

I've had mostly good experiences with Bob's. First, they have great prices. They don't over charge. They have even done a few small things for me for free. However, there were two issues that they couldn't figure out and they're discriptions on what to do were confusing. Sounded like they just didn't want to do the work. Just my opinion. I figured that since they had such a good reputation, they could give my issue solved. Guess not. read more

I had a great experience with Bob's. They just fixed my AC and were very reasonably priced. They even shopped around for the best price for the replacement part. They were very quick with the repair too! read more

Had to get my son's car towed in for a problem with the transmission. Their website tells you things that can possibly be wrong with the car - that do not require a lot of transmission work. That is exactly what happened. The repair was a fraction of what a new transmission would cost. These people are honest and straight forward. A diamond in the rough. I took our 2001 Chrysler Sebring into Bob's transmissions. I described the problem and the manager told me it sounded like low fluid. He had one of his techs drive it around and check the fluid. The tech showed me how to check the fluid while the car was hot and running. The tech then added fluid to the vehicle. When I went to check out they refused my offer to pay. Great service, fast and an experience that will bring me back. read more

Don't judge this place by the high star rating. Took my 1985 Ford F-250 from Panama City to Tallahassee for a major rebuild of rear differential, install new wheel bearings and replace the U-Joints at the differential and the Transmission ends. 4 days later the U-Joint at the transmission end blew off. The arms which insert into the Yoke had the caps completely missing. Talking with Carl his argument boiled down to "Were not perfect" and "S*^t Happens". Yes those are quotes, that's what he said. That might be a good argument if an amateur such as myself was doing the job but these guys were supposed to be the Pros and this was a simple error in installation of some type. I'm also wondering if they used the wrong U-Joint as the part number on the Bill for the U-joint was 7003A and I can not find this as a U-joint used on a 1985 F-250 at the transmission end in any references. In any case this was something that should not have happened to Professionals. Very Disappointed. Lesson Learned: High star rating can not be relied upon. Second lesson learned: High star rated Businesses fall back on the same old excuses as used by a 1 star 2-bit racket place when confronted with an error on their part. And this was an error on their part either in improper installation or the incorrect part. Caps on new U-Joints just do not come off after 4 days. read more

Went there with my car to get the transmission fluid changed. Not only the place looks very messy the service is the same like the place looks - very unprofessional. They took any kind of Transmission fluid, which is not recomended for my car. Additionaly they didn´t replace the gasket. Everybody knows that you have to replace anykind of gasket as soon as its unscrwed. But those guys have no idea about that at all! After 2 days I found out that the transmission was leaking - so I went there to get it checked. They told me it´s not leaking but on the other hand they had to add 1 quart of fluid. Long story short I had to spend additional $ 250 to get it fixed. I tried to talk to Carl, the owner, to get my money back, because of their bad service, but he refused it. Transmissions aref expensive and many times they don't operate the way they should. In this case I'm happy while it was expensive it could've been worse and it functions well so the service I requested was completed and quality of the work was great. I'd even say it wasn't a bad value. To clarify how I feel about the quality of the work, they had installed a transmission and it didn't operate all that well as there was a slight lag in it and rather than try and convince me that it's OK they simply removed it ordered a new one and installed that with their apologies for it taking another week and a half to complete the job. I'd say give them a shot if you need a transmission they treated me well.

On the day before dropping my daughter off at FSU, her air conditioning wasn't blowing cold air. It's a 2008 Honda Accord. Since I couldn't get an appointment at my local garage in Jax, I tried to fix it myself with one of the Freon Recharge kits and I apparently accidentally put too much even though it registered green on the gauge, which caused the whole system to stop working I was at My local JAX garage at 7:30 am when they opened to see if they could put gauges on it to try to get the freon levels correct. They took it to the back and the tech said the system would potentially need a full overhaul drain and refill and they wouldn't be willing to do that unless I was prepared that that could cause me to need m an entire new AC system at over $2,000 AND they potentially needed to keep the car for few days. They wouldn't touch it unless I was prepared for the worst. We had to leave to go to Tallahassee, so I decided to find a shop in town to take the car to. I found DT's off Yelp and called and Elon was kind enough to say he would take a look at the system and evaluate it. It was a simple fix of just adjusting down the Freon to the proper levels and he and his team did it and gave the car a through inspection with a simple request for me to just get my future work on both my kids cars done at his place! Sherri the Owner gave me an expensive quote of $199 for the diagnostic test. Later, after they'd received my car she said the diagnostic test could not be done unless I provide two remote keys. At first I'd given them one remote key & 1 regular key. I then took them my second OEM remote key, she and Mr Porter was there, he stated that some wiring was cut, and they'd need yo fix that, before the diagnostic(?) When I went to pay them, Sherri gave me a bill which was nearly $1k. She again said they'd repaired some wiring in order to do the testing. I thought this was way too much for a diagnostic test; I wasn't sure they'd fixed any wiring, but I paid them. I did not let them do any more work because they said the part I needed would cost about $1.5K, then the labor would be $1.5K, that is simply preposterous! After the car was returned, I discovered that my 3rd key was missing (the OEM key). Sherri claimed I only gave two keys to them. I reminded her that I brought in a 3rd key, then she said they'd search for it. She later claimed the key could not be found? I gave a written request that they return my key, or pay a reasonable price for a replacement, but they ignored my request. I reported the business to Florida Consumer Services. Sherri provided a false statement to them, again claiming she only received two keys, thus refusing to return my key or pay for a replacement. This business is bad, they over charged me for a diagnostic test, then lost or stole my original OEM key. Their integrity is shoddy, and just the principal of not trying to make things right is very poor customer relations. I would not recommend Porters Automotive to anyone. *If you go there, take a video of all transactions, or have them make a receipt to you of everything.

I called for an appointment to have a used car checked out,…read moreand the woman who answered the phone was very helpful explaining what to look out for in a used car, even before I asked for an appointment with the shop. She expressed a personal interest in helping us make a wise purchase and not get ripped off. She went into details on how to check the age of the tires, where to look for torn boots, how to spot fluid leaks, how to evaluate hoses, etc. even before we drive it off the lot for a test drive. We are coming from out of town because the car is somewhat a rare find for what we are looking for (a particular brand model, trim level and low mileage). We don't want to have buyer's remorse and have to return it for any reason. While it is under warranty with a full refund available for ten days after the purchase, we will be returning home several hours away, so making a return trip would be expensive and inconvenient. Another proof of Porter Automotive's honesty was that I told her how much the dealership would charge me for the same service ($199), and she still told me their price which was MUCH lower almost by half. She didn't have to mention that! You folks in Tallahassee are blessed to have an auto mechanic shop like Porter's!

Let me tell you, Carl is my hero! I lost gears in my 2008 Malibu. When I called Bob's, Carl answered, listened to my symptoms and told me it may just be low on fluid. I put fluid in it, still no gears. Had it towed to Bob's. Carl called me and confirmed it was the transmission, but asked me to call the dealership because they may have an issue with it, if it was a wave plate. Sure enough, GM would cover it if it was a wave plate. I called Carl back with the news, and Carl said, since it might NOT be the wave plate ask the dealership what their diagnostic charge is, so I could bring it back to him if it wasn't the wave plate. It ended up being the wave plate, and was repaired free of charge. Carl, instead of just repairing the transmission, sent me on a path that got it fixed for free. I am grateful to Carl, and it lifted my spirits to think that there are people in this world like Carl!! He wouldn't 't even do an oil change for me, so I could at least give him some business, because he said they don't do enough oil changes to be competitive. Just amazing! If you ever have a transmission problem. Don't walk . . .RUN to Bob's Transmission. You will not be disappointed! read more

Eric M is a guy who destroyed his own transmission by playing the part of mechanic without the knowledge or skills to do it and then blamed the shop and then wrote a fake review, classic. Nathan M liked to curse out our female workers and threaten harm to them after he installed his transmission incorrectly. Raven E and R.S are fake accounts that have never been in this business. Vernon B is a guy who got ticked off because he could not scam us out of money and was the first one to cyberattack our business, congratulations. Han N is another fake account. Very amazing shop! The owners were so awesome, kind, honest, down to earth people! You don't find to many Humble people in this world anymore like them. They were so helpful and respectful. (seeing as I'm a girl and have no clue about cars). They have worked on all of my vehicles and always do amazing work. I have never had to come back twice. I would highly recommend. For these people writing FAKE reviews, Theres no "FAT" guy who works at bobs. Karl the owner and his wife Melinda are amazing people! Busted out the plastic on my center console when fixing a gearbox issue and then when I tried to show him the pieces they claimed it wasn't their problem. As I was leaving Bob proceeded to chase me down in the parking lot because I "slammed the door" screaming obscenities, towering over me, a 19 year old girl, and made me feel as if my life was in danger. If his wife hadn't stepped in I fully believe I would've been put in the hospital. This man is a danger to all his customers and I advise you to either get your car fixed somewhere else or come prepared with pepper spray. read more

Very knowledgeable and professional transmission shop. After going to another shop for a diagnosis and repair that wasn't successful Karl (The guy who test drove my car) let me know what was really wrong with my vehicle. To my surprise, they had my car repaired and back in my possession within less than 48 hours. It runs great. The professional and friendly service plus the reasonable price made this our go to shop. Staff replies to bad comments with lies. I've never threatened anyone. Much less mouthy female office staff that run to the parking lot chasing you screaming. Crazy office staff and inept building.
