The Boca Raton Innovation Campus is famous for being the birthplace of the first personal computer which was invented and developed here. The IBM PC Model 5150 was developed on campus in 1981. The first PC keyboard was also invented here by IBM engineer David Bradley although he credit its popularity to Bill Gates who decided to license his operating system to IBM in what is now the 5000 building. The campus was built as IBM's North American Research and Development facility in the late 1960's. It was designed by Marcel Breuer who is known for his conic Brutalist architecture with minimalist and functional designs. The innovative infrastructure was designed to withstand a category 5 hurricane. CP Group acquired the property in 2018 and IBM departed in the early 2000's. It has now been transformed into a vibrant hub for technology and life sciences with amenities like restaurants, art galleries, and event spaces. Future plans include corporate offices, retail, hospitality, and residential spaces. There are miles of walk and bike paths around campus that are open to the public. My favorite place to walk is around the lake which attracts birds and ducks. 5.5 laps around equals one mile. The lake is 20 feet deep in the center and holds 10 million gallons of water. While on campus you can also check out the Art on BRiC Walls Art Exhibits. Take a self guided tour of art exhibits lining the common area corridors. Collaborations with Palm Beach County museums, schools, colleges, and art organizations line the walls. Also on campus you will find Marcel Brewer's Cafe by Carmela Coffee, a conference center, a 7,000-square-foot fitness center with locker rooms, showers, and group fitness classes, an on-site primary care office, bike storage, Bits Autonomous grab-and-go, and more. BRiC is well worth checking out for the history, architecture, and art while exercise enthusiast can use the campus to connect to other nature trails in the area. The campus is also the host of the Coco Love Fest, a family friendly event from the Coco Market that offers retail shopping, activities, and workshops. And best of all -- it's open to the public! I visited BRiC for the ABC Supply Great Chefs Tailgate Showcase on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, and I was blown away. The event kicked off college football season in true Boca fashion -- great food, amazing energy, and a strong sense of community. Local restaurants, breweries, hotels, and mixologists brought their A-game for an unforgettable night of flavor and fun. Some standouts from the culinary lineup included: Eddie V's Prime Seafood Boca West Country Club Los Bocados Crazy Uncle Mike's Graze Craze Boca Raton Deep Eddy Vodka Prosperity Brewers How Ya Dough'n (yes, the pizza was amazing) And many, many more. It was an epic tasting tour across South Florida's best eats and drinks -- all for a great cause. The event supported Spirit of Giving's Holiday Gift Drive, helping thousands of local kids experience the joy of the holiday season. Love that BRiC hosts events that give back while bringing the community together. The space itself is impressive -- spacious, modern, and full of energy. It's clear why so many global enterprises and startups are choosing BRiC as their home base. Whether you're a local, a visitor, or just a curious foodie -- keep your eye on BRiC. Riddle me this: Where can you uncover a hub of learning, chill zones, brainwaves, and mingle with brainiacs from all walks of industry, all squeezed into a whopping 1.7 million square feet that's shaping a brighter tomorrow? The answer? None other than the Boca Raton Innovation Campus (BRiC)! Tucked away in the heart of Boca Raton, this gem started its journey as the IBM headquarters back in the swinging '60s, got a chic makeover in 2005 (thanks to the iconic Merces Breuer touch), and got a modern facelift when Crocker Partners swooped in and took over the site in 2018. What a puzzling and fascinating place! The first step in, we were hit with a wave of curiosity and awe. From a medical center to walls adorned with eye-catching art from different schools and collages, we strolled past science exhibits, futuristic car tech, labs, and even stumbled upon an architectural wonderland and a mini oasis of art sculptures! Every nook and cranny held secrets just waiting to be discovered. The architecture details had us scratching our heads in wonder - whoever masterminded this place is a genius, and the folks behind it must have wallets as deep as the ocean. Mind Blowing. Just picture this spot during the holidays - a sensory overload like no other! So much eye candy, so little time. Talk about impressive overload! Oh, and let's not forget the jaw-dropping cafeteria boasting a Star Struck Coffee Salon and a team of friendly faces. The vibe was cozy, perfect for unwinding or getting some work done on your laptop. The decor was so on point, it practically screamed "trendsetter." And that was just one slice of the BRiC pie - can you imagine what the rest has in store? The atmosphere was cool, the air was laced with a hint of flowers, and get this - even the restrooms were straight out of a sci-fi flick. Wave your hand, and voilà, the door swings open! Mind. Blown! Word on the street is, BRiC boasts the longest hallway in the western hemisphere and can brave a Category 5 hurricane. If that's not a flex, I don't know what is! Brace yourself for a return trip to this wonderland, hoping it stays as fresh and fabulous as day one. The office park has been significantly upgraded since Crocker Partners acquired the property in 2018. I was visiting for a Boca Art Museum juries art exhibition. I've never driven up to this complex. The amazing architecture just drew me in to explore. Wow! I would love to work here. I wouldn't want to go home. It was amazing amenities like a huge workout room with new equipment, numerous meeting spots to stop, chat and brainstorm. The building is circular with floor to ceiling windows all around. The light brings nature inside, just like how Frank Lloyd Wright designed his structures. But, this one was designed by Marcel Breuer, famous for his tubular steel furniture, yet his real interest was architecture. He was a Hungarian designer who championed a rational approach to design. It is currently undergoing some reconstruction and offering office spaces to new entrepreneurs looking for a full service office building. read more
