    Ravioli ai porcini

Bocconcino is a small Italian restaurant along Highway 7 in Vaughan. We had called this place on numerous occasions during the pandemic since we had a gift certificate. Unfortunately it was closed, but thankfully it had reopened as restrictions were lifted. Although the restaurant was open for dine-in, we ordered for pickup. The food here is ridiculously delicious. My favorite dish was the ravioli ai porcini. The raviolis were lightly stuffed with cheese, but what stole the show was the porcini and sauce. It tasted incredible and I could definitely taste the truffle oil. The linguine pescatore was quite tasty as well. Perfectly al dente pasta in marinara sauce with mussels, clams, and octopus. I hope you like linguine because there was a lot. The shrimp was my second favorite dish. There were 5 large shrimps in this dish. The shrimps were perfectly cooked and the garlic sauce was flavorful. The grilled calamari was my least favorite of the 4. It was a little underdone for my liking, but I can see how people would like this dish. We had tiramisu for dessert. It's a pretty huge square and quite shareable. There's a lot of powder on top. Very tasty and a perfect way to end dinner. I was stuffed.

Off the beaten path Italian restaurant. The service was exceptional and the decor was ok nothing spectacular. Food was fresh to order. I had the seafood pasta that was fair. Tomato based but nothing special. The calamari was fresh and crispy. Also ordered tiramisu to go but forgot to take a pic that was pretty good. Overall I would recommend.

Went there for my birthday dinner Saturday night. Small intimate restaurant. We ordered the calamari fritti - which came out fairly quick (right out from the fryer cuz it hella hot) and we also had the "Vitello ai Funghi" it comes with 2 pieces so we asked if they can make two separate plates ( which they did!) and we also ordered Tortellini alla Bolognese. At the end of our meals, they gave these small bite size chocolate ice cream covered bells. The menu is worded in Italian - but I had my bf translate some for me. Suggestion, it's a fairly small place- If your going on a weekend definitely make a reservation ahead of time to avoid any disappointment.

If you want home cooked Italian food this is the place to go!!! I rarely order Pasta of any kind unless I am in Italy. But I was in the mood of Italian and this was the perfect spot. Service was A-1....he basically told us what ever you want we will make it!! How ever and what ever you want in your pasta. So I asked for meatballs with Chicken with a meat sauce and cream sauce....and there it was....exactly how I asked. I love spice and can handle almost everything. I am not sure what he brought us but a day later I am still feeling it!!! Great experience and I will be back for more.... I forgot to mention that we started with friend calamari and it was as good as the greeks make it!!! lol...just had to throw that in.

I'm a bit surprised why there aren't more reviews of this place. Maybe because the restaurant is not easily found, hidden behind hwy 7 in what is mostly a small office area. You wouldn't be caught causally walking down this street and go "let's try this place". Or maybe because the families that come here don't Yelp, or they want to keep this place to themselves. Whatever the case is, I wandered around, found them, and now they're exposed. Restaurant Not a lot of parking in front of it, but enough surrounding it. Pretty small inside, with a couple small tables and a couple large tables. Maybe between 10-15 at most. Service 2-3 waitresses/waiters. Menu is in Italian and they will walk you through it. They aren't pushy and will not rush you. You get plenty of time to decide, and enjoy your meal and company in between each dish. It feels like you are dining at an upscale restaurant but with a homey touch. The staff are personable. They will have a drink with you. It does feel like family. Food Grilled calamari is recommended. Easy to cut through and eat. A light charred taste from the grill to give it flavor. Splash on some lemon to enhance it all. Veal comes covered in mushroom sauce. That veal is perfect. Mushroom sauce is not strong so it doesn't overpower your dish. It's also not salty like some of the others I've had. Vegetable sides are way too soft and overcooked for my liking. That's my only complaint. Sausage penne pasta was also really good. Tomato sauce was just right. Penne pasta was cooked to perfection. I think I've said too much.. keep this place only for those in the know. 5 stars..

He's in his twilight years of working so these days he mostly spends his time making his own red wine from scratch, hunting turkeys, and growing vegetables in his garden. He clears the vibe check. I'm yapping now, but all this to say he picked Il Gatto E La Volpe for dinner so I knew this food was gonna SMACK. We started with margherita pizzas for the table, arrancini, calamari, and a couple bottles of red wine picked by Uncle Dan. My Mom got the gnocchi bolognese, which I knew I would get 80% of as she eats like a mouse, so I went with the Florentine steak. I hate to be corny and say "everything was sensational," but everything was sensational so Imma leave it at that. My favorites were the gnocchi bolognese and arrancini though, as I had never seen gnocchi bolognese on a menu. It honestly should be a more common dish. I'm making a prediction that by 2029, gnocchi bolognese will be a standard item on all Italian menus. Service was great, vibes were up, and this was just a great place to enjoy some much needed family time over some red wine. These haters got me stressed. SHOUTOUT TO UNCLE DAN! The standout items for me really were the Margherita pizza (not pictured) and Burrata -- wow is the bread chewy and delicious! But really, everything I had was tasty, including the pastas and risottos. Portion sizes are quite generous too. On top of everything, our server was outstanding. She went above and beyond to make our group and event feel special. She thoughtfully brought us sharing plates, swapped our dirty plates for new ones, promptly refilled our water glasses, brought us additional utensils and napkins -- all unprompted! I rarely talk about service, but I was so impressed with her. Wish I knew her name so I can give her a better shout out! Ambiance was inviting and bright. The restaurant is spacious and well-lit. All in all, excellent food and service. Definitely recommend.

An Unforgettable Evening at Zafferano Ristorante…read more Last night, we had the pleasure of celebrating two of our family members at Zafferano Ristorante. Although we're not from Toronto and had never been to this restaurant before, our friends had booked a large section of the venue for over 30 guests--so we really didn't know what to expect. What followed was nothing short of amazing. We started the evening with some beautifully crafted cocktails. The drinks were delicious, and our waiter was quick to offer creative twists on our usual favourites--setting the tone for the night ahead. When it came time to sit down for dinner, the experience only got better. They kept bringing out plate after plate until we could barely move! The food was phenomenal: every dish was full of flavour, perfectly served at the right temperature, and visually stunning. A special shoutout to our waiter, Alex. He was outstanding--attentive without being intrusive, always ensuring our glasses were full and that every new course arrived with perfect timing. It was an incredible night and the perfect way to kick off our vacation. We left with full stomachs, happy hearts, and memories we'll talk about for a long time.

The meal kicked off with some nice warm, bread that was crusty on the outside and moist on the inside. We shared a few appetizers including Burratina, Gnocco Frito, and Margharita Pizza. The pizza had a nice mildly spicy sauce which made for a very delicious pizza. The Gnocco was fried pizza dough balls with garlic, Parmesan and a drizzle of honey. It normally comes with Prosciutto but we ordered it without to make it vegetarian. The mix of flavours was really unique and delicious. The Burrata was good but the other two appetizers stood out more. For entrees, we had the Spaghetti Genovese and the Stuffed Gnocchi. Both were excellent. Highly recommend this place.

This rating is based on a casual dining restaurant experience…read more 3 of us came in for dinner on a Thursday night. I made the reservation in advance and wasn't sure what to expect. The place has been here for years but this was my first visit. It's located in a plaza on the south side of Hwy 7 so there's private parking. As you come in, there's the bar and the entrances to both the main and private party dining rooms. We were quickly greeted and given our choice of seating in either room, as the private party room had only a small birthday party in a little section. We could enjoy a colder temperature in the private room, or average room temperature in the main room where it would be less noisy. We chose the main room and it wasn't uncomfortable. Our host provided our menus and gave a choice of bottled, mineral, or tap water. Tap water in stemmed glasses with ice was fine with us. To my surprise, it came with a full basket of complimentary bread, butter and spicy oil. I have not seen this for years and we appreciated it. We ordered a rice balls (4 pcs) appetizer which came with marinara. They were a good size and had some cheese pull. Our entrees were a Ricky pizza (one of their 20 specialty pizzas); chicken parmigiana; and home made pappardelle with chicken and pesto cream sauce. Our orders were served within a few minutes of each other, all huge, and piping hot. We were offered additional grated cheese tableside. Besides our host, the owner (I assume) came round to serve my husband's Montecristo cocktail and wish him a happy birthday. He continued to check in along the way as well. This restaurant reminds me of being in Calabria at eateries just like this, meaning, the Italian equivalent of the British neighbourhood pub experience. There are families with children who may roam, groups of ladies getting together for a meal, singles having their pizza and beer after work, all in a space that somehow makes you aware of being connected in your mealtime. The food is what you may remember enjoying as a kid at your Italian friend's house: nonna's home made everything, from the bread and oil to the pasta and tomato sauce. It's not fancy, it's plentiful and hearty home food. The tomato sauce is fresh, exactly what all my family produces from their own jarred tomatoes. My chicken was cooked through without being dry. The pizza was nicely crisp and charred, straight from their wood oven. The pesto cream pappardelle was delicious, with plentiful pieces of grilled chicken. Both my daughter and I had half our meals left to enjoy later. You can order half portions for half the price. My husband managed to devour his whole pizza. He even ate the crust - which he never does. We didn't order wine or dessert as that was waiting at home. I didn't think to check if they offer any prosecco besides the basic wine list but their website is very well done, so I will look again, because I would definitely return. It will be like being back in my family town in Italy.
