I've been coming to Body Armor for a little over a year. I love this box because it offers something for everyone. Each coach has their own specialty(this is totally my opinion) I think this is what makes body armor so special. When I was in my search for a box, I really wanted to find a place that had an inclusive community. I also wanted a place that I felt would allow me to reach my goals. Body armor has both. I love that the coaches put in extra time to create sessions for community need. For example, one of the coaches had a "Fix yo' Squat" session for people who wanted individualized instruction to help perfect their squat position. Also, coaches did a muscle-up clinic for tips on perfecting your muscle up. The gym has a great community filled with newbies and veterans. I feel that this gym is incredibly inclusive. I have learned so much from the people that are there! Body Armor offers Olympic weightlifting, CrossFit, and strongman! Also, the owner's Ryan and Gabby are awesome. I loved this gym. I've traveled to a number of boxes over the years and it is always good to get to work out and find community. That's just what happens at crossfit. So cool. Body Armor was distinct. I became a "local" immediately. I planned on working out on Monday and going somewhere else more convenient to where I was staying on Tuesday. . Turns out Tuesday came around and there I was back at Body Armor. Same thing thing Wednesday. It was so much fun. After class I jumped into a separate oly class and got extra work in. Gabby and Ryan are awesome. Andrew coaches a class today. That dude was super cool and offered Crt precise coaching. Thanks you to all the staff and the members for making it a great place. Holy wow. I'm totally impressed with Crossfit. I won't lie, I was awfully intimidated before my first class. I pulled up and fought the strong urge to just drive away as I watched what looked to be a very tough workout by the people in the class ahead of me. I'm happy to note that I went in and found a very tough workout but one led by an encouraging and helpful instructor, rather than someone yelling at me like a drill sergeant. The classes are structured to change daily so you don't find yourself doing the same workout over and over. There's a bit of competition in the air, but also honestly, I felt very encouraged by everyone. I'll update with more as time goes on but this is my opinion after my first week. This place rocks. This is my home gym so I am biased. However, I travel the country for work and visit lots of boxes. I even began at another box in town before coming over here. When comparing to other CrossFit gyms Body Armor is better than most, and not just those in San Antonio. The coaches here are great and the gym even added an Olympic lifting room last year. They also offer yoga twice a week, competitors, and weightlifting classes. Great gym! After reading the other reviews I feel like some clarification is due. First, Ricky is no longer a coach here. I apologize on behalf of the gym to the girl who had a bad experience with him. Believe me, her experience is not common and I hope she finds a gym where she feels comfortable. Second, you do NOT need to be in shape or near in shape to do the workouts. You can modify the workouts, just tell the coach what you can/can't do or what you're comfortable doing. CrossFit challenges you to do your best. If people look like they are doing really technical/difficult exercises it's because they work their behinds off to do so. Lastly, the bar sharing the same parking lot is no longer in business. No more second hand smoke drifting through the doors. Body Armor wants it's members to feel great, accomplish goals, and get the most out of their time working out. They focus on technique and fundamentals and the coaches can help you work on (and improve) your weaknesses. This is hands down my favorite CrossFit gym in town. They have really cultivated a community here. Everyone is so supportive and encouraging, it's like working out with all your best friends! Another great thing about this place is the level of knowledge the coaches possess. Not only are the smart, but they pay attention to your form and give you corrections. They even let you know when your form is failing, and give you modifications if you aren't strong enough yet so you don't injure yourself. They're so invested in keeping me healthy and strong that I keep coming back! read more

I love this gym, all of its coaches and the owner, Paul! The coaches are very knowledgable and explain things well. This gym also offers many classes outside of crossfit like olympic weightlifting, strongman, gymnastics and core. I have been to many crossfit gyms and feel the most comfortable here. Joining this gym was the best decision I've ever made. The workouts are fantastic, the motivation is incredible, the people are the best. Ryan runs the gym like a family, so everyone feels included and part of the community; this IS my community here in SA. If you're out of shape (like I was) and looking to get in shape, this gym is for you. If you're looking to maintain a certain level of fitness (like me now), this gym is for you. Great people and such a welcoming community. The owner, Ryan, was welcoming from the moment I stepped into the box. He was all smiles, helpful and cheerful, getting me signed in. The members were nice and very friendly. If you're looking for a gym that modifies movements to your capacity and at the same time, challenges your capacity and endurance, then this is definitely the spot for you! The coaches monitor form, correct it in the moment, and always promote safety in the metcons. First Off! Great coaching staff! All the coaches are 100% positive, fun, hard working, and nice. It's group exercise but with lots of flair. This is for people who are already getting in shape or are in shape. They offer classes Monday- Saturday, mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Each class is different which keeps your muscles guessing. Crossfit is hard! It is challenging and fun all at the same time. If you enjoy getting your butt kicked this is for you! I dropped into BACF and was very impressed. Amazingly helpful staff. Everyone was on their game even though it was 5:15 am on a Monday. From scissors and alcohol pads for ripped callouses to critiquing me by name, they were well prepared and professional. They hold two class levels simultaneously so newer crossfitters can get additional instruction and help on scaling the WOD while CF veterans work on more complicated skills. The box also has two sides so athletes can work on skills outside of class. The doors were open early, there are onsite showers, & the other athletes were welcoming. Excellent box. Cons: Over the course of my travels in the military I've came across a lot of cross fit gyms all over the world. I still wonder why this gym charges the fee it does... Yes I get it you offer yoga, OLY classes, etc... I use to work out at Krypton in Chesapeake VA and payed less for unlimited options. If you didn't know... Krypton is Ben Smith's gym. the 2015 Cross fit games champ, and he trains the OLY classes. This gym is overkill overcharging their fees even for Military and 1st responders. This gym is charging equal to more than all the big name gyms in CA where the cost of living is insane compared to SA. Not trying to bash the "Box" just bringing forth the reality of the situation. read more

I dropped into Body Armor Crossfit a couple of weeks ago while traveling to San Antonio. Glad I did! Great box with fun people, opening and welcoming as you would hope for Crossfit. Met Ozzie the first day as the trainer. Sure nice guy, great workout. Met Ryan and others the next day when I went in. Ryan even got into some strongman stuff like zercher carries with the yolk which was a lot of fun. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting back to Body Armor when I'm in San Antonio. read more

One of the best gyms in San Antonio hands down! It has showers for those who like to go before work and has a great location with a view of the Tower of Americas while you workout. Ryan the owner is great and all the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. read more
