Jason, Not sure if you'll see this but gonna give it a shot. I visited you all back in 2021 or 2022 and brought a half sleeve Ganesh tattoo design. You sat me down and sized it up on my arm and gave me the quote and i even put a deposit down at the time (could've been $50, could've been $100). You saved the design on your computer. We had a date scheduled for me to come in and I believe something happened with your kids soccer tournament? The receptionist and I worked together for a couple weeks and I forget exactly what happened but it all fell through and I gave up. I tried calling there after that, but wasn't successful with you all returning my calls. This is all said and done, and it was years ago but i was hoping you still have the picture of the tatt saved? From start to finish I had a wonderful experience! Initially I collaborated via email with Neil, sharing my idea using a disastrous photo collage that I created then made an appointment for an in-person consultation where we talked in detail about what I was expecting/what my vision was. He is very knowledgeable about placement and design and steered me into the right direction and drew up the perfect sketch for me. He is an amazing artist! It's a small shop but they do a good job enforcing the social distancing; everyone wears masks and they sanitize their stuff between clients. Now on to the actual tattooing- day of, Neil and I went over our expectations and he was very thorough in making sure the tattoo stencil was the right size and we toyed around with placement options. He's very aware of your expectations and wants everything to be perfect for you. He always makes sure you're comfortable! I highly recommend Neil. I got my first tattoo done here today and it went really well! My friend and I did a lot of research and ended up choosing this place because of a friends recommendation and the cost: $50 minimum. A lot of places in northern Virginia wanted $150 which we knew was too high. I got line work of a paper crane on my forearm and my friend got the Harry Potter book page stars on her wrist. We got them done together with Shawn and he was so kind and helpful. We went on Saturday which is when they do by first come first serve only. We weren't the first ones there but since our tattoos were small they were very good at getting us in and out but still making sure the tattoos were done with care. The shop itself is really small and a little cramped - we couldn't sit down until someone went back for their session- and we had a little bit of a tough time finding it but once we got in they were really nice. read more

My first tattoo, wedding ring. Artist said finger tattoos can be difficult, but seemed very confident. Did not mention additional fees for touch ups. It pretty much came off after 6 days! Day 10 I reached out to the artist. He said it would be $75 to resaturate. Mind you $150 to start. So that would be $225. Who knows how many times it will need resaturated. This tattoo is one inch long by half a inch. Kinda of feel ripped off. Seen better tattoos made with paper clips. read more

The owner of this fine establishment is Tom Painter. Tom is about the gentlest tattoo artist that you'll meet who rides a Harley, and wears skull bandannas to match his various menacing tattoos that make up his sleeves. I first went to Body Art in 2001 wanting a tattoo but am terrified of needles. In comes Tom's modest and comforting bedside manner in which he charms you and makes you completely trust him. He is also willing to tirelessly work with you to get your design just the way you want it. When we had the design right, he then even worked with me on the appointment, and came in on his day off just to open up the shop and get me inked. The tattoo came out great and I've since gotten another and been pierced by Tom. It's hard for me to really express how genuine Tom is in a world where people consider what they do for a living just their job. Tattooing is an expression of Tom's love for art, I can't imagine ever allowing someone to ink me that doesn't respect and truly love their trade. read more

On the positive, the work is great. Really, that is the most important thing hence the rating Spoke to both Evan and Neil (sp?) over the phone and they are very nice. Evan called multiple times to ensure the design I submitted (a half sleeve) was being redrawn to my liking. They called at 3:00 pm the day before my appt which was a bit inconvenient but I appreciate the attention. The artist, Jason, was phenomenal. Normally, when you get an appointment with such a talented artist, they are jerks. Not the case with Jason - really nice, very attentive, and skilled. He stayed 3 (THREE!!!!) hours past closing to finish my tattoo. When he was done, I could not believe how low the price he quoted me was and he said it was due to him coming in "late" that morning. I contacted the shop back in August about a tattoo I wanted to get done, we spoke over the phone and I paid the 10 dollar drawing fee. After trying to phone them numerous times I gave up and got my tattoo elsewhere. Yesterday they finally sent me an email letting me know they'd drawn it...then they informed me they'd be keeping the drawing fee because "it was drawn as requested" five months later...worst service I've ever come across in my life with any kind of business. read more

The new owner, Tom Painters son, Jason McCarty is prob the best tattoo artist on the East Coast. I've been back 4 times to get a full sleeve. I saw a review on their service being poor? What do you expect with someone this good? Next day service? Go to Manassas and get butchered. I own a flooring company that gives 5 star service, we aren't Empire "Next day" who knows who's showing up to do your work. This is a 6 star establishment, Jason has 30+ trophies stacked up when you walk in the door, showing his appreciatioin from the tattoo community. He is DEFINITELY worth the wait, hey, tats are forever....anyone that books you the next day....there's a reason ;) I have found my artist and will never go anywhere else. I feel I must respond to Sharon's comments, and it is unfortunate that I cannot do this without submitting another full review. I will break down your response to better inform customers of what really happened. Your comments are in quotes, with my response following a set of dashes: "Ben we are disappointed to read your review of your experience at Body Art. We tried to work with you on every side, and offered the gift certificate to appease you in your impatience." --- This is simply not true. You did offer me a gift certificate, but did not 'work with [me] on every side' as you never called me with questions. When I contacted you I either got 'we need more time' or the phone just rang with no answer. "We did draft a design based on the minimal details you provided of which you came in and looked at and then told us that it was not exactly what you were thinking." --- When I stopped by the shop after you had my deposit for almost a month you had simply looked up pictures of zombies on the internet, and had no drawings. You asked me if I wanted something 'cartoony', and I replied that i wanted it realistic looking. You asked for a week, and I agreed. "We asked you for more specifics so that we could capture what was in your head onto paper. We drew the design, we returned the deposit, and we worked diligently to get you tattooed." --- I was never shown a drawing, only images printed from the internet. If you had given me a drawing that I didn't like I would not have asked for my deposit back, and simply found another shop. Spending 10 minutes on Google does not count for drawing a design. Every time I spoke with you I was told that the drawing was very difficult, and you needed more time. Contradictions are abound... was the drawing done or not? "I do hope if you consider future tattoos you will take more time to participate in your tattoo design experience instead of just dropping by and saying "draw me..." " --- I didn't just stop by and say draw me, I gave a fairly detailed description of what I wanted (A running zombie, with a bib number of 26.2, fairly realistic, 8-10 inches tall on my calf). You had over a month, and never once called me asking for more input. After receiving my refund I spoke with another shop about what I wanted, and made an appointment for a week later. The artist was given the same input, but asked pointed and helpful questions. My experience at the second shop was friendlier, faster, and much more pleasurable. I do not have a review of the artists skills at Body Art Tattoo Studio, only a very poor opinion of their business ethos. read more

My daughters and I just had matching tattoos done by Neil. This was my first one and I was very nervous. I had checked out a few other places but was really impressed with my first experience here. Sharon answered all my questions ( and I had lots!) and was extremely helpful getting us an appointment while trying to coordinate our schedules. Neil was just fantastic! I got my second tattoo done here...or started it at this shop. And as much as I hate depriving artists of finishing the original work they started, I had to do it to Jason. Whenever I called the shop and they said they'd call me back - they never did. Whether it's a question or a request for an appointment, you have to keep calling them back or get an answer while you wait on the phone, otherwise you'll never hear from them again. Getting in for my first "appointment" wasn't bad, I drove up there on a Saturday for their walk-in hours, and no one was really there because it was snowing. Getting to the second appointment was a real problem. First I came in on a Saturday but I didn't get there early enough so was pretty close to last in line and definitely wasn't getting in for an appointment that day. But Jason, being the nice guy that he is offered to meet me at the shop Sunday night instead to get it done (something he doesn't normally do). So I drive the hour from my house to Berryville Sunday night to meet him. Well guess what - he never showed up! No call to cancel or explain why he missed it either. So I call him the next day and he sets up an appointment for that same day - again after hours. Well this time I've learned not to drive out without a call before hand to let me know when he'll be there. Well guess what - no call! So AGAIN the next day I call him and AGAIN we set up an appointment for later that week (Thursday after I get out of class 4:30) and this time it's during store hours, so I'm relieved. Well guess what! I get there and who knew - Jason called out sick that day, and the receptionist never called me to let me know even though I was in the appointment book. Fortunately Jason is smart and got his ass in the shower and finished my tattoo that night. But for the $700 I paid him for a freakin tree on my forearm, he rushed through the tattoo and missed obvious spots when coloring it in that I hadn't noticed until after it healed. Granted, it would've been easy enough to go in for the free touch up to fix these things, but guess what - they never called me back to let me know when Jason would be available again (I called 2 months ago now, and STILL have yet to hear back from the shop). Needless to say, if you don't mind paying out the ass, chasing after your tattoo artist for an appointment, or general disappointment, then I suggest you hit up Body Art Tattoo Studios. Don't get me wrong, Jason is pretty good at what he does, but it's just not worth the hassle in my opinion. If you want quality work and to interact with people that genuinely care about their customers, I would suggest the Body Gallery instead, and they have shops in Leesburg and Sterling, VA read more

I've have gotten two of my tattoos here and will continue going back. Sadly the owner Tommy passed away recently but I was blessed enough to be his last tattoo he ever did. They do beautiful works of art for the cheapest price around the Shenandoah Valley. If anyone is considering a tattoo it is well worth the wait to get it done here. terrible experience!!! on the first visit, we were told that they would call in a few hours to get the tattoo done. later that day I had to call back and was told that the chairs were full and that it couldn't happen that day. proceeded to set an appt for Saturday after Christmas at 10 am. when we showed for the appt was told the they were closed, no artists were coming in that day, and that they didn't do appts. this was the owner and same woman who set the appt. so we took our business to 100 proof tattoo in martinsburg wv. avoid thus place and save yourself a lot of lost time and headaches. read more
