Do not judge a book by its cover!! There is no other place in Bradenton that I would recommend for a piercing. I started coming here back in high school (I have not been in high school in a while) and have not looked back since. The staff were extremely welcoming and personable. They immediately greeted us on the walk in. The establishment is clean, even the restrooms. We walked in and immediately were able to get in with I believe her name to be Christina or Chrissy. She was great! My best friend and I came to Body Effects because on a whim she decided she wanted a piercing. I must say they are going to educate you. They ensure that you are knowledgeable of your piecing, rejection rate and best practices for longevity. They make sure you are as comfortable as possible and if you're having any doubts (which my friend did) they give you the space to decide what it is you really want without pressuring you. I got my tongue pierced here in March (snake eye tongue piercing) my friend loved it so i took her back a week later and she got hers done (a total of $150..including tips and jewelry. I was told that when I needed to switch to a shorter tongue ring when the swelling went down it would be free. Well it wasn't and they all of a sudden had a new piercer so I paid for my new jewelry AND left another tip just for her to put the jewelry in my tongue. Fast forward to April, my tongue ring fell out when I was sleeping and because of the covid 19 They were closed and was told to come in at the beginning of May, well I showed up May 2nd to get my piercing redone and was immediately told i had to pay full price for it (not what was previously said) so I very calmly asked if we could come to an agreement (pay half, discount, etc) the owner and the piercer begin to scream at me (with a waiting room full of people) this wa no longer worth the $80 and I proceeded to leave and slammed their door behind me, the piercer followed me out and grabbed me by my throat and choke slammed me, the cops were called. (By me) the "owner" proceeded to video record me and my friend after this and told us he called the cops and I'm going to jail, he claimed he had video cameras everywhere (turns out their video cameras don't even work) the tattoo artist was smoking roaches in the back of the shop. Turns out because there was no video footage (i was the only one with marks) either neither me or the piercer went to jail or we both did) i obviously wasn't going to jail over that. But just be warned, this place is unprofessional, drug filled, DIRTY (even the cops told me this is the worst know piercing place in town) they don't care about their customers and even go to the extent of putting their hands on them. I am MIND BLOWN and so glad I didn't get my tongue redone at this dirty establishment. read more

So one day I was struggling to find a decent place that was open to get my nips done. Well it seemed everyone was booked till a later hr or date and I didn't want to wait anymore to get them done, I walked into body effects and was greeted by I believe the owner an older gentleman who was really cool and informative, I was nervous af and they knew it because I let 'em know, I'm a 33yr old male with small nips so reviews online about the pain and others telln me about the pain made it hard for me to come to a complete let's get it done conclusion but talking with him and Jenn the piercer they said it's not as bad as what people make it out to be, so I then asked is it free hand or do u use clamps jenn said free hand now my anxiety went way higher because I seen the struggle between free hand and clamps, but they kept me calm n didn't talk me into it or out of it, so with their good vibes and positive outlook on things I got both done by jenn and it wasn't as bad as I was thinking, a little pain came to with my last one but wasn't as bad as I thought. Now I'm in my healing process and everything is looking amazing and healing perfect. They have a very clean and sterile room, new needles and barbells opened while ur in the room and before I left the room she was already cleaning everything once again. So I will def be going back to get more tattoo work done and possibly more piercings. read more

My mom got a daith piercing there. Derek did her first one and did a great job. She returned about 2 weeks ago to get the other ear done and Derek is gone. Chrissy did the piercing. She was complaining to her trainee while doing the piercing about people judging her for having tattoos the whole time. She must have been distracted and not sanitized the equipment properly because 4 days later my mom had a to go to urgent care with an incredibly swollen and infected ear. She had 10 days of antibiotics and couldn't even sleep on that side of her head due to the pain and swelling. Now today my mom texts me that she has the flu. I get her to go to the doctor again. It's not the flu, it's the infection from the piercing! She has to see an infectious disease specialist today for possible IV antibiotics! She is too nice to raise hell about this, but I'm not!!! This place needs to fire Chrissy before we sue!! read more

Back in January, I decided to go with my friend to get my belly button pierced. Chrissy brought us back right away and was having a conversation with another person while doing my piercing. I had gotten other piercings before at other places but had decided to go here due to price and it being closer to where I was staying. After we had gotten our piercings, it seemed normal. About a week later, I noticed it was red and irritated. I tried to treat it with home remedies but nothing worked, I then decided it was infected. At that point, I was in Miami and decided to go to a reputable tattoo shop. The piercer there struggled to remove the ring that neither me nor my boyfriend at the time could remove. After about 10 minutes of excruciating pain, she finally removed the ring and a combination of blood and pus oozed out. For the next month, I had to squeeze pus and blood out of my piercing hole. Now that the hole closed, it's obvious that the piercing WASNT EVEN IN MY BELLY BUTTON and now I have a black dot where it was that won't ever fade. So fuck you, body effects. Oddity is so much better. Don't go cheap, you get what you pay for. And fire Chrissy. read more

MIKEY who does their walk-in appointments is incompetent and unprofessional. Completely regretting choosing this place for my first tattoo. Follow up was non existent, even when I wanted to consult for another piece. He suggested we do my script tattoo in two sessions(why?????) but now it's been two months of walking around with a half finished tattoo. When I requested a printout of the tattoo I got so I could modify it, he couldn't even do that right. He's sent me the wrong thing about 8 times now. I am so unhappy with this whole experience that I have declined both the "free touch up" and a half off discount on my next tattoo. Instead, I'm going to go to a real tattoo parlor and I'm going to have this shit covered up. The worst thing of all this is that I told him this tattoo was a memorial tattoo for my best friend who died, it's probably the most significant and personal one I'll ever get, and this is how he treated me. Haven't had any work done here but I called to seek assistance from a reputable tattoo and body piercing shop for assistance. I had a micro-dermal piercing I wanted to remove. When asking some questions about removal and whatnot the gentleman I spoke with got rude and interrupted me several times just pushing me off to see a doctor without telling me what type of doctor I should see (dermatologist, GP, etc). The first time I visited Body Effects Tattoo & Body Piercings Inc was when I was 15 (I am not 27) to get my navel pieced. 11 years ago, this place made a big impression regarding their technique and their customer service. I currently live in Northeast Florida where I have acquired two tattoos from a supposed reputable tattoo company that was quite expensive. I have the Eye of Horus on my lower back when I was 18 and I most recently gotten a tattoo in honor of my patron saint on my rib cage from that place. I noticed my Egyptian eye was raised from the get-go and was informed that a raised tattoo from the tattoo parlor meant the artist did a great job for going deep and the most recent tattoo (1 month) was already losing color. Obviously, I was naive and learned better when I started watching a 'worst tattoo" show and became obviously pissed. I originally went to Body Effects a few months ago to get more information about micro-dermal piercings. I met with Derrick (I believe), who was young and surprisingly very knowledgeable and extremely professional. I was particularly impressed that Derrick was extremely conscientious in informing the pros/cons and the expectations for after-care. During the end of our conversation, I was again impressed when, Nate, a tattoo artist, was providing a consultation with a walk-in client who wanted a tattoo on her neck. He declined to provide her the service due to those type of tattoos not keeping ink well enough and told her "ethically" he could not do it. It became clear that these guys that work for this company definitely care about their art and are not just there to make a quick buck, The next month, I came back (I wanted to take time to think about my permanent piercings), I went to Derrick to get my piercings and was pleasantly surprised that he took time and even consulted with his colleagues that my piercings were perfectly placed before piercing. Although 2 out of my 3 piercings hurt like hell, I was extremely satisfied with his work. After my piercings, I inquired with Derrick about fixing my tattoos, and he immediately brought over Nate to give me a consultation. He diagnosed what the other tattoo artists did wrong and gave me a very reasonable estimate to re-tattoo me once my piercings healed. Mind you, I was told by another tattoo artist that my raised tattoo could not be re-tattooed. After my appointment with Nate, I could not have been happier. He not only re-tattooed my tats, but he made them look even better. He was truly an artist and took immense pride. Plus, it didn't hurt that he had a "light hand." I highly recommend this place. I definitely plan on being a repeat customer and for Nate to design my next tattoo:) For the ladies, it's great that these gentlemen are easy on the eyes;) read more
