I've been to other acupuncturists, but Sandra is somebody special! I've been going to her for almost a decade now, and she is the most highly skilled health care partner I've ever known. Sanda takes the time to treat you as a whole person, not just a "patient." Over the years, she has treated me for back and neck aches, depression and various minor injuries. But just recently, I had the most dramatic improvement ever. As I turned 73, my hip started bothering me, so my regular M.D. got an x-ray and told me I had arthritis starting there. She referred me to Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy, but the pain only worsened, giving me a constant limp severely limiting my ability to walk. All they could offer me was cortisone - a temporary fix. So I went to Sandra. With a sure and gentle hand, she assessed my symptoms and placed the needles. After just one treatment, I got real relief and was finally able to get a good night's sleep. While Sandra was ok at acupuncture her billing practices were not good. She assured me that my insurance would cover acupuncture and this turned out not to be true. I love Sandra! She always is so calm and collected and she dresses really well! She takes her time with you, I have never felt rushed or unappreciated, and she also takes the time to get to know you exact problem area's and giving you way to help yourself through the week. 0 I also really appreciate that she leaves a baby monitor in the room with you so if you ever need anything all you have to do is call out her name and she is there in less then a minute. The first round of visits I had were about 5 years ago and she helped me recover from a severe injury I had done when I was 2 1/2 but till then it hadn't been to bad, then it took a huge turn for the worse, but she was awesome and did amazing work on me. I had been doing awesome till I recently got a new job and had a huge amount of emotional and physical stress dump on me and my whole body exploded! Literally overnight I woke up and couldn't turn my head to the left! I'm always cold, and she has a heat lamp and space blanket ready! She also always has a bucket of licorice in the waiting room to munch on. As for results, she's made me a believer in acupuncture. I have been to 9 other acupuncturists. I was referred to Sandra by a friend who had seen her immediately after a car accident. I too had been in a car accident that day and he told me that the best thing I could for myself was to go get some same-day acupuncture from Sandra so my muscle sets would relax and seize less. This is my first and only experience with acupuncture, so I don't have a lot to compare it to... but I have been really impressed over my past year of treatments. The environment is very relaxing - I like the back room with sun (on a few days!) streaming in through the windows. Sandy listens well and addresses whatever issues I bring up, and after a treatment my body always feels relaxed, almost like I've had a massage. For those who are skeptical of the benefits of acupuncture and put off by the thought of needles, I was you. However, Sandra is graceful and gentle - the treatment merely feels like being flicked with a finger. That's it. Really. She explains to you the connectivity of your body and why a needle goes where. She traced the source of from my migraines down to the tense muscles in my neck and the distraught nerves from my herniated lumbar disc down my hips. After a month and a half of treatments, my migraines are nearly nonexistent and low back pain is no longer a daily occurrence. Sandra also accepts my health insurance which covers the cost my treatments (with a diagnosis) so I am only responsible for the copay, so appointments are really affordable. As other reviewers said, the entrance is hard to spot. It's in the same building as the Metro Cinemas in the U District, one door to the left. Validated parking is available across the street for one hour until 6 pm so that's no hassle. Ultimately what I appreciate about Sandra is the time she takes to get to know you and your body. Her calm and cheerful attitude makes the treatment that much more healing and relaxing. This was my first experience with acupuncture and I've been going for about a year now. Initially this was for a back injury in which I was receiving acupuncture, massage, and physical therapy. I ended up sticking with just acupuncture since the results have been great. I've returned for other injuries as well and have been equally satisfied. I started having Planter Fasciitis problems with my left heel a couple of years ago. I exhausted every traditional medical route I knew short of surgery with no progress. Sandra told me during the first session that she had treated many planter fasciitis injuries and that she was confident I would see results. I had reached a point where my migraines outweighed my fear of needles. From the first day Sandra has listened and then calmly explained what I could expect and what the benefits would be. One session with Sandra took away my daily pain and over the next 6 weeks we went to the source which was inflammation in my knees.
