Zen did not notify me of an outstanding balance due for almost two years despite their claims otherwise (yet I still received automated birthday and marketing messages). When I went to immediately pay the balance through their online system after receiving a collections notification, it was marked as "paid." I have now been under the extremely caring, professionally excellent treatment protocols of acupuncturist, Jeremy Frieling, for over a year, now, and couldn't be happier. My health is the best it's ever been, largely due to my being to get treatments with both needles and tuning forks (Acutonics) from Jeremy most weeks since April, 2024. Jeremy is kind, respectful, attentive, creative and steady. I feel safe, well-cared-for, and supported with all my health goals in every session. Jeremy also recommended me to his educational portal. He took the time to create and specifically put in acupressure, Ji Gong, massage, and other modalities for me to add to his treatments, and the site provides explanations and examples in the form of text and videos. I can do all of these when I'm home and they are all helping me be healthier as well. It even has dietary info and recommendations, which I appreciate. He has helped me with reducing difficult symptoms and problems with allergies, digestion, lower back pain, sleep disturbances, rashes, and many other minor ailments as well as my overall health in my almost 71 YO body. I have a 2-year-old granddaughter whom I see weekly, and I ride public transportation almost daily. My experience at Zen Attitude Acupuncture has been the most superior experience I have had with acupuncture in Seattle. I see Dr. Cheyne Valentine and cannot recommend enough. Out of the four providers I have met with over the last 18 months or so throughout Seattle, he has been the best. Why? His bed side manor is great - calming energy, positive energy, and very ZEN! Additionally, he takes the time to connect prior to the treatment to understand what is happening with the mind and body to guide his treatments. My body has always responded pretty well to treatments - but my body has been responding the best from Cheyne. I cannot recommend Zen Attitude Acupuncture enough. I am especially and profoundly grateful for Dan Bertapelle. I was recently preparing for an embryo transfer. It was a highly stressful time for me for a myriad of reasons as IVF is a rollercoaster of emotions. I worked with Dan on an intensive basis leading up to my transfer. Energetically, I felt so calm, peaceful, and at ease in his care. He is so present for his clients, really listens and makes you feel like you are the most important person in the world. Physically, I felt a huge shift in my body. I definitely felt increased blood flow to my uterine area and more confidence in my body's ability to get pregnant. The Naturopathic Doctors and Acupuncturists are good here. No problems there. Unfortunately the Zen Attitude office does not seem to have the training and/or experience and/or skill to spar with a beast like Premera Blue Cross health insurance. Zen Attitude makes mistakes that cause delays and annoy the insurance company; such as missing diagnosis codes and incomplete paperwork. And of course that means the insurer is going to respond by aggressively denying claims as if I'm a problem patient. But I was not the one sending orders for testing and treatment; Zen Attitude took the lead here. I've started getting claims denied at more conventional western-medicine practices, for different medical problems. So it appears as if Zen Attitude's shadow of questionability has followed me around. I'm attempting to drop Premera and try a different insurer, but the damage is done. I understand that Premera is just one insurance company. But it's huge. It's one of the blue cross and blue shield organizations. Most employers give you very few options, Premera being one of the big two or three. I understand that insurance companies are predatory and unfair. But Zen Attitude accepts insurance and presents itself as a practice capable of managing insurance claims on behalf of the patient. They created some shared responsibility for insurance billing errors that result in a loss. I worked very hard with Zen Attitude on multiple attempts to fix the insurance claim. Zen Attitude and I worked very hard on multiple appeals against Premera's denials of the claim. We failed. Accepting defeat, I politely asked Zen Attitude if they could provide any kind of assistance to help me pay for the medical bill. It's hundreds of dollars that I now have to pay for 100% out of pocket, no HSA in this case. It's now an exploitative fee for what should have been a simple, modest medical expense. Zen Attitude deflected all responsibility. I politely asked again, explaining my reasoning. Zen Attitude declined to help me any further, and they didn't acknowledge or apologize for their own mistakes. The deflections continue. Lack of accountability for mistakes is rampant in the business of medicine. Zen Attitude unintentionally exploits this issue by presenting itself as a kind and enlightened alternative to the corruption. Sadly, I don't think Zen Attitude is immune from the rot. read more

I'm currently undergoing chemotherapy and dealing with sciatic pain, so I wanted to find a way to help with my healing process and get some relief. Courtney, my acupuncturist, was incredibly kind, understanding, and attentive to my needs. She took all the necessary precautions, considering my immune system is compromised, which made me feel safe and comfortable. Knowing I was nervous, she stayed in the room with me for the entire session, and I had a button to call her in the event that she needed to step out of the room. Rather than rely on painkillers, I decided to try acupuncture to relieve the discomforting side-effects of chemotherapy. Had my first visit with Dr. Ziegler recently. I've been having back pain due to sciatica after a long drive. I've never tried acupuncture before. He was very sweet and had a calming present, which made it a great experience. He did some assessments, placed the needles and then let me rest for a while. In 2016, I became a patient of Dr. Phi-Lan Nguyen, visiting both the Bellevue and Seattle locations. Dr. Phi-Lan is not only personable, easygoing, and wise but has also been instrumental in alleviating my struggles with dysmenorrhea, anxiety, energy levels, and other issues I have had over the years. During my acupuncture sessions with Dr. Phi-Lan, I often find myself both laughing and crying due to her effective stress relief needle techniques and incredible sense of humor. During the pandemic I was so crazy, with non-stop zoom meetings, endless hours in front of the laptop, and doom scrolling I developed this weird carpel tunnel in my right hand. Ok, listen--I went into this whole acupuncture thing as skeptically as possible. No matter how skeptical you are of it, I was twice as skeptical. I am not a "mystical" person. Raised in the midwest. Believe in science, surgeons, etc. Still, after four months of crippling nerve pain in my back and leg that hadn't gotten better despite throwing everything my primary care doctor had at it (PT, specialists, medication, MRIs, etc.) except for back surgery she said would have a 50% chance of making things worse, a colleague I trust recommended acupuncture and I thought: "ok what do I have to lose?" I've done four sessions so far with Phi-Lan and Jeremy and it has blown my mind. My pain has lessened a lot and even my physical therapist noticed big jumps in how my body was responding over the last two weeks. I don't know how it works exactly, and I'm incredibly surprised that it does work, but I'm here to tell you that it does and even if you are totally skeptical of it, just give them a chance. Zen Attitude is incredibly professional, easy to schedule online (without a phone call, yea!), clean, punctual, and comfortable.
