Its hard to explain but you will become aware that you are being completely heard, and that all of your concerns are being noted and affirmed. I am very adamant about having deep tissue massage, and recently had one elsewhere that got down to the grizzle, but didn't feel loving. Eli combines a great sensitivity with his strong pressure. He encourages you to sigh and breathe when he hits a rough spot (and oh man did I have some bad knots in my shoulders...). He has incredible touch. I literally felt like I was floating afterwards and sort of rested for a good 10 minutes before I got up. I use to only see female massage therapists, but I feel extremely safe in the container Bruno sets during our sessions. I see him out of his home office usually 2x/month for 90 min (I think this is a better deal and can get more accomplished versus just 60 min). His intuitive nature is highly on point. He seems to sense exactly what I need. He is healing (I think) on an energetic level as well although I'm not sure if he advertises that. I feel energetically shifted after a session with him. When I have out-of town guests I try and get them in to see him if possible. They all say he is the best BW they have had, perhaps ever. Run, don't walk. His schedule fills up quickly!

She had many excellent massage therapists, but the first time I went to Roger, he was my choice. A few years later, he set up his own practice, no longer covered by insurance (but hang around, he'll be a licensed physical therapist one of these days). I saw him less often for money reasons and yearned from afar. A couple of years ago, I gave my sister a gift certificate for a massage with Roger. She's been hooked ever since. Recently, I realized that with my functional and pain issues, I had to budget the money for at least monthly visits. Roger learns your body quickly and never forgets, even after years. My problems have been all over the map--from carpal tunnel to degenerative disc disease. I've been a athlete and I've been disabled. He can target whatever the issue is now, working carefully around areas that are vulnerable and healing those areas by working on adjoining or complementary muscles and tendons. For example, when my spine was disintegrating (pre-spinal fusion), he knew how to relieve the muscle pain without aggravating the nerve damage. He's worked on my hips when they were going out, and he's worked on restoring flexibility after replacement. After a session with Roger, I feel like I've shed the last 10 years of injuries, arthritis and tendinitis. There are lots of good massage therapists in the Bay Area, but probably only one Roger in a lifetime. His rates (noted here are "$$$") are really on the low side for massage therapy, and he gives you the option of an hour or an hour and half. You can also buy a series of massages at a discount. He's a genuinely good person, and he makes you feel like you're the only person in the world while he works on you (though he will ask "how's your sister?"). One final thing--online booking is the bomb, and with Roger's appointments being snapped up before your very eyes, you might want to take advantage of this. But if you'e confused with it, call him anyway.

I heard about Corey and Tact Massage from Lonna, who is a chiropractor in the same building…read more Booking a session was very easy and I really appreciated the fact that I didn't need to put down my credit card to guarantee the booking: it gave me a first clue of what kind of person Corey is. I didn't really have any health complaints, but I like getting massages: it is one hour where I can just let my thoughts drift and have someone else take care of me. Like many people, I associate massage with relaxation and spa-like surrounding. The stereo-typical massage therapist is dressed in some white clothes and oozes sensuality and well-being. Corey and his practice is different; different in good way though. When I arrived for my appointment, I was greeted by a what I associated with a typical San Franciscan, dressed in a plaid shirt and a big commuter rucksack; he probably had just biked to his practice. He then told me a little bit about what I'd be expecting over the next hour, before I got ready for the actual massage. I then expected him to start "massaging" my body, but instead I witnessed how his hands applied light pressure on my back. While doing so, he commented on areas that he thought were a bit tight and/or needed some attention. After that, I pretty much let him do "his thing". I had complete trust in him...in fact, I apparently fell asleep at various times during the session. (Corey said something along the lines of: "I noticed that when I'd just relieved the tension on various sections of your body, I noticed you started to snore lightly...") After the session, Corey walked me through what he'd done and he pointed to various muscles on the anatomy chart on the wall next to the massage table. I can only agree with all the other Yelpers, especially Kevin N, who says: "Corey is an intellectual who combines his academic knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology with his natural gift of tactile memory." I also liked that Corey didn't do the guilt trip on me that I associate with some other massage therapists. Something like: "Oh, your body is really tense and I think we should see each other on a regular basis. In other words: your body is a total mess and I can help you fix it." Corey simply said that it would probably be good for me to come back for another session and work on some other areas, but that in general I'm in pretty good shape.
