Had a very unsettling massage at this location and would not recommend. The staff doing the massage got interrupted several times and was constantly in communication with another person throughout my massage. It was very disturbing and not relaxing at all. She seemed to get interrupted to pick up phone calls or let customers in and seemed very distracted. Overall not a good experience. read more

Overall my massage was good, the only complaint on the massage was I believe my masseuse had nails and they were sharp and would at time dig into my skin causing slight plain and discomfort. My biggest gripe is when it can down to pay I owed $120 for two people getting an hour massage and as I was paying and writing the tip I decided $10 for each masseuse would be good since it's slightly above the industry standard of 15%. And let's not forget that a tip is just that, a tip which is optional. I paid them what was due and some. But they were pressuring me saying how they usually get $20 each for an hour massage after I had already written $20 in the tip and $140 for the total. They kept saying how they USUALLY get $20 each for masseuse but they must not understand what the word usually means. It means most the time and that this time they weren't gonna get that and i wasn't going to budge because I couldn't believe they had the nerve, gall, and audacity to tell me how to spend my money especially on an optional portion when I could've gave nothing. Had it not been for my wife offering to cover the extra $20 I would've left them upset. So in the end I had to scratch out the tip and total I wrote so that they could shutup and accept the tip they preferred and requested.It's also very brave and presumptuous to assume I had the extra $20 to spare. And if I paid you're price you can't expect or ask for more tip especially when $20 is 1/3rd of the $60 price point which is a 33.3% tip which I would never imagine giving out. And if I couldn't afford the extra money and I was giving what I could they should be grateful for that. And if I didn't have the tip amount they wanted it's never any business's business to know my personal affairs as that could be rude, traumatizing, and very invasive. All that to say I enjoyed my massage for the most part but won't be returning due to their pushy nature regarding an optional portion of my bill. Please do better!! read more

Called on the phone for walk in appointments and arrived less than 10 minutes later and they were able to take the both of us in which was nice. We got the regular $60 massage, paid for the total before I got the massage. The massage itself was nice. It was after the massage that is bringing the stars down in this review. I have always tipped massages 20% of the total or maybe a little more at times. The masseuse gave me my receipt and the two staff members were literally watching my every move as I was writing the tip. I started writing it in and before I finished, they started objecting and said that I needed to give $40. I was shocked because I never have been badgered by someone to leave almost double the amount. It was extremely uncomfortable, I ended up just doing what they said and left. Safe to say I will never be back. You are better off going to another massage spa that won't make you feel very uneasy when it comes time to tip. Obviously this is a systemic issue, the massage parlor needs to pay their employees more - but at the end of the day it doesn't feel good to have someone stare you down when writing and tip and then getting pushback for it after. read more

The space is inviting and homey, the lady in the front (Maggie) was extremely nice and accommodating showing me to my room and answering the questions that I had. I have coming here for a few years now. About every other month or more. My husband comes and I have referred 4 people who are regulars now. Today's massage was very good as usual. I did have to ask for the sheet to be changed before I layed down. It didn't appear clean and smelled of oil. When I went to check out I paid my $90 and tip a $20. Which was slightly above 20%. The masseuse questioned my $20, like it wasn't enough of a tip. I responded with it is adequate, it is more than 20%. When reading the review below I saw this happened to someone else. I was in town for the holidays and decided to book a massage for myself and 2 other people. I called ahead of time to ensure that they were available, and that they could accommodate. I also wanted to confirm that the 20% on their website was valid. They said yes to all. When we arrived, I once again, asked them about the discount to ensure it would be applied. Things were fine until it was time to pay. This is where it got bizarre. My masseuse gave me the total which did not include the discount so I asked her to please calculate before running my card. She of course, acted like she didn't understand, and charged my card the full rate. When I questioned her, she went to the back to get her supervisor, or at least, someone who could communicate in English. The supervisor asked if I wanted a refund for the overcharge and I said no, she can keep it because we wanted to pay 20% tip. My masseuse interjected and said that a 20% was insufficient and that she wanted more for a 2 hour massage. Mind you, my masseuse cheated me 25 mins. She thought I didn't keep track of the time but I did. Also, during the session, there was a lot of back and forth in terms of entering and exiting my room. VERY DISTURBING to say the least. Long story short, this place seems shady! I have never been to a place where someone demanded a TIP, which I thought was optional. We tipped off the REGULAR PRICE, not discounted price, and they were still unhappy. I will never, ever, come back here again. Though only based on one visit, this was a wonderful, convenient, affordable ($60 for an hour), professional massage. I was scheduled on short notice. Linda gave me a great massage. I'm not sure I needed the warm oil and will pass on it the next time. The oil is a norm with many massages, and absorbed by the skin even if the excess is wiped off. I highly doubt it's organic and cold pressed. I brought my own lotion which she also used but next time I'll have her just use my lotion. The website is clear about pricing. During my second appointment the massage therapist had to leave the room to take a phone call from the front desk, and talk to a colleague about something, but it was no more than 5 minutes and I was so relaxed I didn't care. Sophia is a magician. Before discovering the Albany Professional Spa I had never seen a massage therapist more than once. I think I've seen Sophia seven times now. I keep going back because her technique is so flawless. What's remarkable is that although her technique and routine are perfect, she's doesn't do the exact same thing every time; there are a few variables that she includes or omits from session to session, so the experience is always amazing but never completely the same. But it's always consistent. I leave feeling both relaxed and rejuvenated. The spa itself is very inviting and cozy. I have to admit I have been here several times and a couple of the massage therapists can deliver an effective therapeutic session. However, recently the customer service here has gone down hill (focus is on tips). I was dealing with a lot of upper back tightness and and tend to carry all of my tension in my shoulders and neck. Last August - October, I would come here quite frequently. During that time period I think I spent nearly $2k at this establishment (yes that is an insane amount to spend on massage but I truly felt it was helping my health). I would initially see Sophia and later scheduled appointments with Bebe as she is a bit stronger. I would always go for the 90 min massage and leave a $15-$20 tip. Bebe would jokingly tell me that my "tips are no good" but I never took it personally and would respond with a witty comment. This all changed recently. Last week I went in for a massage, and despite having been here roughly 25 times, Bebe asked me to pay and tip PRIOR to the massage. I paid $85 ($20 tip). To my dismay she was quite agitated about this in a serious manner and said "you need tip more." I responded by saying I was tipping nearly 30% as usual. She didn't repond and we went to the room and she delivered a good massage. Despite the interaction being a bit awkward, she thanked me and I went home. I went back yesterday as my shoulders were feeling super tight. She gave the usual strong massage but what happened afterwards left me speechless. After tipping $20, she looked at me and said "Really? No more massage for you." She then walked away before I could respond. Being in the client/customer service industry myself, I think you need to show a bit of appreciation for customers who become regulars and have spent a significant amount of money at your business. Secondly, this place no longer has a dedicated receptionist meaning the massage therapists are regularly leaving the room to answer the door and take phone calls during the massage. I went on a Sunday after a very long work week on a recommendation of a co worker. They took me right away. Room was very clean and the temperature was perfect. The lady who placed me in the room asked me if I wanted a heater but I declined. I had Sophia and she was just great. Perfect amount of pressure; not to hard or rough and not to soft. You do need to ask if you want them to walk on your back. I did not ask so I did not have her do it this time. The soothing music is also a great plus. I've been to several other massage spas in the bay area, as well as many other areas, including fancy spas on cruise ships. This is the BEST and most reasonably priced spa I have visited. I had the pleasure of trying out two different masseuses, Cindy and Angela. I was rather impressed by my experience at this new spa. Not only by the price but the quality of the massage I received. This was mainly because I wasn't expecting anything great. In fact, I think I received one of the best massages courtesy of my masseuse, Tina. She asked me at what pressure I wanted my massage-- medium or hard, Medium was just right. She loosened a lot of the knots in my neck and shoulders where I tend to hold a lot of stress. Even better, was that I came in with a stuffy nose and cough, but came out with neither of them. I'm a believer in holistic medicine so it's possible that something in my muscles was obstructing the natural flow of my body. When that was all straightened out, I had the best relief of my life. I kid you not. This may not be an experience that everyone has, but I'm sure happy it happened to me. I definitely will be back. The only downside (hence, the deduction of 1 star) is that the walls are thin and you can hear people in the hallway, so you may not have a completely relaxing experience. I've had massage all over the world in many different countries with many different cultural backgrounds and APS is really is as good as it gets on many levels. I've read all the reviews for APS and the people that complained may not be use to a Chinese massage place. Yes, the English is not so good, but they try hard to talk and listen to what you need/want. And yes, it can be a little louder than traditional "American" massage places, but it's not too bad. The massage at APS is great and the kind and gentle disposition of it's employees is really pleasant. Laura is by far the best masseuse to me. Sophia is also really good. They are welcoming and offer a nice, clean, pleasant establishment. It's really a bargain. I recommend a sauna (included if you want it) followed by a shower (included if you want it) and then a 90 minute massage. You can really loose yourself and relax to the fullest with a full 90 minutes. Afterwards they offer water or tea, both hot or cold and usually offer a piece of fruit (depending on what's on hand) upon your departure. I've been to APS many times. Albany professional spa is a great value! $65 for 90 minutes of pure bliss. I was originally put off by the thin walls but I'm way past that now. And Laura consistently gives me the best massages of my life, although I've had others (Sophia?) and they were all good. My husband and I are weekly regulars. They also have a sauna and shower if you want to come a little early. As for some earlier reviews about paying and tipping before the massage - this has never once been asked of us - we always pay and tip afterwards. One other thing- it's more of a walk in or book day of kind of place - they don't seem to use a forward looking scheduling system. read more

HOW DOES THIS PLACE HAVE 4 STARS. This was the MOST UNprofessional service I have received in ANY industry in my whole entire life. My friend decided to take us both out for massages at the last minute, around 830pm. We called and the receptionist (POOR ENGLISH) said we could go. Upon entering, it smelled BAD in there. It smelled like old, potentially mouldy carpet. If it was just me I would have left immediately but I didnt want to seem ungrateful for my friend's gesture. The lady took the money ($100 for 2 x 1 hour massages). She kept asking something else but we didnt understand so we went ahead into our massages. I kept my panties on but took my bra off, and once she started the massage it was very evident that the receptionist who was now massaging me, had NO experience whatsoever. She was moving so fast, so loosely, jerking movements - nothing like any REAL massage Ive ever gotten. Totally terrible. She kept pulling my panties down and fully touching my butt and I tried to communicate with her not to, by pulling them back up, but she pulled them back down a couple of times before I kind of snapped at her and told her to stay on my back. The whole "massage" consisted of me being super uncomfortable but not wanting to cause a scene and again, for the sake of my friend's gesture.... At one point I was on my back and she fully put pressure ON my knee joint, which hurt so bad, I told her to stay away from my knee... No person with common sense let alone a masseuse would do this!!! The massage ended after 50 minutes (shorted us 10 mins) and then at the end when we were leaving... ****to make matters worse... she goes "TIPS?? TIPS??" I didnt understand initially but then realized this was what she meant at the very beginning before we even GOT our massages. I shook my head and said "NO tip" - so she "tsk tsk'd" me in a very witchy way and SLAMMED the door on us as we walked out. I am writing to compliment the professional service that I have received from Bei at APS. She is one of the best masseuses that I have ever had, bar none. She is capable of giving a very deep tissue massage and also readily eases up and responds to my feedback if I have painful spots. I have had massage from Bei for many months now. The business is top notch with having a clean shower and room available. When I am not lucky and Bei is not available, the other masseuses at APS provide very. good massage. I used to think that one massage therapist was the best there- until I tried others and really so far all of the massage therapists have so far been really excellent. Some speak English better than others but so what- who needs to talk in a massage. They are so inexpensive, clean, nice people and great massage. Also- THIS is NOT erotic massage- one reviewer I think named the wrong place in her review-- as we have been here for about 3 years and no way is this that kind of place. The place is clean, everyone is friendly and professional. The massages are amazing and inexpensive. Both Anna and Maggie are very good. My wife had a great massage, but unfortunately she didn't get the name of the woman. :( After our massage they gave us water and.... apples! Noise does travel in the building and you can hear the phone ring and people speaking, but that is true of most Chinese massage establishments, and it doesn't bother me personally. I also got an hour and half massage by Katie, a young, pretty and pleasant lady with years of experience.
