I can't believe I'm writing a Yelp but it feels like a last resort. First of all, their beds don't work. I think the bulbs need to be replaced. I tried stand up and lay down for weeks, and nothing. Not a speck of color. AND, to cancel, you have to send a certified letter!! In this day and age, that's wild. My account was supposed to stop getting charged in March. I got charged in April. I let that go. Now they've attempted for the last two months to charge me. Fortunately, I pulled my money from that bank account, so they can't. Planet Fitness is 25/month for their most expensive membership and they have a full on tanning salon in there with state of the art beds (didn't know that when I signed up). So, instead of 100/month for literally nothing, I'm now spending 25/month for a gym and tanning. read more

Listen up my bronze beauties! AVOID this "business" at all costs! I tried them while frequenting DC for my chica's wedding planning and WOW was it AWFUL! First of all, Michael, the owner, is one of the rudest individuals I've ever experienced (just look at his inevitable response to this review). He was extremely judgemental and unprofessional, not to mention is a total creep who harasses clients on social media. He literally uses personal information to inappropriately contact clients outside of the establishment. Don't get me started on Kyree, also a nightmare to deal with! Second of all, my besties, do not sign up for their unlimited memberships, they limit their availability for these appointments (you cannot book these online) and will be extremely difficult about how often you use the "UNLIMITED" membership. Like just stop. Third, my queens, their team makes cancelling your membership nearly impossible - I was warned about this by friends prior to signing up and still ended up getting screwed over! Michael and Kyree go above and beyond to FORCE you into additional months due to imaginary cancellation deadlines you aren't told about in advance. They also force you into additional months if your cancellation notice is not sent via certified mail (despite trying to cancel in person)! Like sorry, who uses snail mail???? Lastly, my sexi mamas, the actual spray tans I got were completely uneven and one left a rash on part of my body! Y'all I was shook (as was my dermatologist!!)! One time, I kept telling the spray attendant to make sure they got my neck yet hours later after it set in, what did I find? My neck was completely white! Lookin' like I was wearing a dang turtleneck because the attendant didn't listen to me! So listen up my bronze besties, best you search elsewhere unless you want to be humiliated by Michael and left with an uneven spray and a trip to the dermatologist. NO THANKS! read more

TLDR: If you purchase a membership they will continue to charge you until you cancel through certified mail. I was under the impression from the person I purchased it that I was getting a 3 month package but I just realized I was charged $98 a month for over a year now. Be careful of the contract they have you sign. When I posted my review in 2022 I described what I didn't like about the service. I initially believed I purchased a 1 month package as I stated in my review, at the salon I was informed it was a 3 month package. I've now come to understand it's listed as a membership. Either way, verbally I was told it was for 3 months. I last visited the salon June 24,2022. Then I posted my review and expressed my displeasure about the service. The owner responded (in September 2022) saying (I'm paraphrasing) that he looked me up in their system and saw I hadn't purchased tanning lotion. He also responded to this review recommending other specific tanning salons (because I didn't like the experience at this salon). What he didn't mention was this 3 month membership/package was still active package and despite recommending other salons he didn't mention the only way to cancel is to send a certified letter. This information is included in the contract you sign initially apparently I'm told now. But I didn't know that. The person I bought the package from didn't mention it in person. He just mentioned the 3 months. The owner did not mention this requirement here in his response to my review in which I stated I bought a 3 month package. I just learned that despite not stepping foot in the salon since June 24, 2022 I've been charged $98 a month for the last year. I know the owner might berate me here for expressing my displeasure I was charged for a year- over a thousand dollars- for a service I expressed I wasn't happy with that I thought I no longer had- but it isn't fair. I believe it's not right. I'm sorry if that offends him but I wish he could just refund me for the months I didn't use any service and I didn't know I was being charged. Obviously I should have noticed this before but I didn't. I just wish they would help me resolve this. - I just want to include that I liked that you're an lgbtq business. I think you know I liked your business when I was just there for spray tans before this debacle. I like the neighborhood specifically for that reason. My criticism has absolutely nothing to do with that. My issues are just about your business practices and fairness. I don't want you to feel any negativity from me regarding identity. I needed a spray tan before the Miss DC competition, and Michael and Kyree had me taken care of! They were very easy and quick to book with, and the spray tan looked great from stage. As someone who is very pale naturally and has been getting spray tans for 10 years, this was one of the fastest and most efficient operations with a very natural looking tan at the end. Fantastic place for tanning and infrared sauna. The infrared sauna is really something. The 40 minutes in there were relaxing. It's nice to get a good sweat going safely in the private sauna. My skin felt great afterwards and I noticed some improvement in my stiff shoulder for the rest of the day. Kyree at the front desk was really helpful and explained how the sauna system works. Everything was very clean and well maintained. Felt very comfortable and safe. It's great this place is open, welcoming, clean and friendly. This was my first airbrush experience. The place is not very appealing but I don't care as long as I get what I want. Kyree was helpful and explained everything in detail. I followed all the instructions but the problem is the tan faded in 3 days even with all the moisturizing and not shaving/scrubbing. I also have some blotchiness. I moved to DC last year and needed a new spray tan place before vacations. Having been going to someone in my previous city for years, I was nervous. When I walked in, it was dark so I was unsure they'd even be able to see the tan properly as they were spraying it on. I was also nervous because there wasn't the bronzer that I was used to seeing/washing off. The person I worked with was lovely and professional but since I wasn't seeing what I expected, I left my appt assuming I had to look for a new place for my next vacation. BUT I WAS COMPLETELY WRONG. This was one of the best spray tans I've ever had. I'm very pale and it was natural and tan enough to notice (quite a feat). It was beautiful, long lasting and didn't peel off all weird in the way spray tans normally do. Kyree is a masterful tan artist and safe to say I'll be back -- more frequently than I expected because now I just want spray tans all the time. As an FYI, it's damn cold in DC right now! Anyway, I was waiting for a good deal on Groupon to do some tanning and get some "sun." I did this when I lived in Seattle and it really makes you feel better. If you close your eyes, it really can feel like you're at the beach. Anyway, I've gone here twice now and the gentleman helping has been really nice and even remembering how much time I spent in my last tanning session. He doesn't give you any hard sell or make you feel guilty about using Groupon. He's just very professional and friendly. Most unprofessional establishment in DC, stay away from here. They take advantage of customers, don't honor your groupons, close and open as they please without following their hours, and worst of all, they are huge liars. They have no respect for people or their time, and have very poor customer service. They didn't honor my Groupon, I didn't argue and paid separately for the service because I really wanted a tan. Even after spending too much money for mediocre service, they had the audacity of threatening me and accusing me of stealing! So unprofessional. Body Bronze is a godsend, super kind and friendly staff, competitive prices, nice location, and no sketchiness or drama. They are my regular tanning salon in DC and I love them! See attached picture for the Groupon your staff redeemed and didn't let me use. I have the entire conversation as well where you aggressively threatened and accused me falsely of stealing "toiletries". I have never been to Tanning by Tanline. Conclusion: As I stated in my original review post, Body Rays staff are huge liars, and both of your responses to my review continue to show Body Rays poor quality of customer service, aggressiveness, and inappropriateness. I had a great experience here! The woman who sprayed me was very detailed and professional. She asked several questions. Am I getting sprayed for an event? What would I wear? How is it cut? Etc... She knew that the tan would look inconsistent if she spayed me with my bra on, so I went without. Be prepared to be comfortable with that if you're planning to wear a dress cut close to your chest area. Anyway it was necessary and she was cool about it. (Though it's awkward she was 100% professional about it). She also was extremely informative in educating me about maintenance. In my former spray tan experiences even in very nice salons, no one told me to use gentle products like Johnson&Johnson's baby wash and lotion after the tan. Because of her expertise it lasted MUCH longer. She obviously takes real pride in her work and provides a very pleasant experience. One thing I did not think of- bring cash for a tip, she absolutely deserves it!!! She's a gem! read more

First time trying an airbrush tan and had a great experience. Discovered Body Rays via a Groupon. The guy who does the airbrushing does a really great job, walked me through the whole process, and how to maintain it. The trick is definitely to wear loose clothes there as he said he would go a bit heavy with the airbrushing and you shouldn't shower for 6 hrs. I did a bit on my clothes but it washed off with no issues whatsoever. The color was perfectly natural. Love it! And yes, you definitely need to make an appointment for this service. read more

Well I have to admit I love to keep my tan during the winter time and this is the place to do it in the city! The guys who own this place are so sweet and so helpful. The really know their business. I found this place because my SW comes here all the time. I came a few times earlier this spring as I was getting ready for vacation and wanted to make sure that I was ready for the beach. But now that winter is here and I have gone blonde I needed to make sure my tan was looking just as good as the rest of me. What can I say about Body Rays - the hours are great open till like 8pm during the week, and I think 6pm on the weekends. The place is so clean and tidy; I have never seen it anything but sparkling when I have been there. They offer a great selection of pricing plans and options for everyone. If its your first time in they will spend a couple of minutes with you asking some basic questions so they can get an idea of what you are wanting and how best to achieve that for you! I've been to this place quite a few times, and I've always found the staff extremely helpful. They've done their best to squeeze me in for spray tans at the last minute, which was obviously really appreciated. I've never done the beds (only spray tanned) so I can't speak to them. The guy that does the spray tanning (can't remember his name!) is excellent. I've always end up looking naturally bronzed and even. It usually lasts for at least two weeks. I LOVE it. I chose this place because it's close to my house. I was originally going to try Solar Planet, but that's not a BLOCK from my apartment, so I figured I'd try Body Rays. The place is nice, from what I can tell from having this be the only tanning place I've ever gone to (outside of one time, in Missouri). It's clean, the staff is super nice and they don't try to make you buy a bunch of lotions and crap. It's in and out and your done, just what I was looking for. I'm not sure I'll become a regular (I needed to get tan for a wedding), but if anyone asks me where to tan in the neighborhood, I'd say this place is as good as any other. They sell packages or you can tan al a carte. They also do Mystic Tan and spray on tan done by a staffer. read more

In preparation for my wedding I've recently started tanning again (I'm very sorry, skin) and have no complaints about Body Rays. It's a small place on the ground floor of a Dupont rowhouse. The staff is friendly, the beds are clean, and they offer pretty competitive package prices. I've only ever done the bed tanning here and not the mystic, but thus far I've been pleased with the results. I've only ever walked in and have never had an appointment. The longest I've ever waited for a bed is about 5 minutes. If you're going to willingly subject yourself to skin cancer even amid all the research to prove this is a bad idea, Body Rays is a great place to consider doing this! read more

Went here yesterday for an impromptu spray tan. The staff was very, very friendly and helpful. The price was great too - $15 introductory tan, which is much better than the $35 I almost paid elsewhere. My only gripe was that there was no video for the Mystic Tan, but the gentleman on staff showed me the ropes and it turned out great. Unlike another reviewer, I did the lightest level and definitely got color! Don't know much about their prices other than this service, but they seem pretty reasonable to me. This used to be my favorite place!! I've had packages here the past two years, and they were very helpful during the change in ownership, where they got rid of my bed and package. They honored what I had, and gave me the remainder of my tans in an upgraded bed. Much appreciated!! Two reasons why I'm not giving 5 stars. First is the spray tan. I've gotten several in my life, so I was shocked at the $60 price tag, even in DC. I did it anyways because I like the place. The spray tan was good, not great. Not worth the $60 when I usually get them for $40. I've started going elsewhere for spray tanning, but don't do it often. Second reason is the hours. One of the best things about when I first started going was that this place was open until 9pm. I had long work hours, and they were ALWAYS open. Now, the past 3 times I've made the 15 minute walk over, they're closed. Seems like they're closed on all weekends now and on all holidays and days leading up to holidays, which is strange, because in the past those were the busiest days! Very surprised and disappointed they were closed all New Years weekend, Christmas weekend and thanksgiving weekend. Not even limited hours like most places. Gotta get your tan on for all the pictures!! My suggestion, always call before going, just in case. Overall, a good place. Not the best, but depending on where you live in the city, you don't have many other options, and this is a decent go-to spot! read more

I love the staff here at Body Rays. Always greets by first name and says goodbye-doesn't seem like a big thing, but it's the personalization that goes a long way. I'm a pasty Irish guy, but worked some seriously good color here through a great Groupon and I think despite the bad press on Ovation beds-the builds in these beds are terrific. The only push I would have is to open earlier on the weekends. I have to wait till the afternoon to tan and I just think extending to earlier hours on the weekends would being a good draw of people in. read more

I came here since it was so convenient to where I lived, and let me tell you, I have come across some rude people in my life, but never when I'm trying to shell money out to them!! I walked in and politely waited for the gentleman to finish his phone call- a personal, and inappropriate one at that. He never did finish, only looked at me, sighed and said yes? I asked him for montly package rates, he pointed to some sign that was totally not helpful. When I purchased my monthly package, he yelled some bed number to me as if I knew where it was and went back to his phone call. The bed itself- totally basic, standard at best. The place was clean- hence the 2 stars, and wasn't awful once you got away from the people at the front desk. I left without so much as a goodbye, thank you, or have a nice day. I paid over $50 for a monthly package I have NO intention on using. I'd rather walk a mile to a place with customer service! read more

Michael is one of the sweetest business owners that I have seen. He gives great package-deals to clients, which never expire, and all together he is a very fun, kind person to see and chat with, during visits. Salon is exceptionally clean. Great collection of lotions are available for purchase. Few times Michael gave me lotions to try. My favorite services are the infra red sauna (awesome), red light therapy tanning bed (effective), and red devil tanning bed (immediate difference). Do the infrared sauna prior to tanning; it creates an AMAZING spa day experience. Very relaxing and effective. Infra red sauna works great for weight loss, cold relief/detox, anti aging, pain relief, etc. Give this place a shot if you're thinking about it. It's worth it. There is also a great Nordic cafe/restaurant across the street. Enjoy. read more
